Rawness and vulnerability is a strong theme in my upcoming album “Muscle and Skin”. All the songs deal with outer and inner perceptions, from others and within ourselves. I’ve posted a new secret song demo on my bandcamp, a song called “Let The Rain Pour”, which deals directly with this theme. I wrote it when I was living in New York, trying to find my place in the music scene there. Trying to be a good person and a good musician first, amidst a very image-driven industry. I was in a crossroads about washing away the make up, the hair dye, and letting my inner truth speak for itself. This song encapsulates that fully, and the pitfalls that can come with getting famous or rich too quickly, burning out that truth before it is fully realized. I feel so much more comfortable in my skin now, and mature about the statements I want to make in the music I create. Let The a Rain Pour is simply about letting “the soul lose the need to impress” and finding real love and empathy vs validation. Exposing hardship and struggle provides the very platform for relatability and empathy, for that is the place our real selves stem from, giving us the tools to handle anything, to take on any challenge, the building blocks of true growth. I recorded the demo under a blanket (make shift vocal booth!) in the living room of my queens apartment, where I was basically renting a futon. Just when I was almost certain I had a list of a few songs that were left for Taylor to sing as the secret song in Brisbane she goes and changes the whole game by singing 22 for a second time as the secret song - Now suddenly I’m putting my list away thinking omg she could sing any of her amazing songs she’s already performed as a secret song at a prior stop and I’m bamboozeled yet excited cuz a few of my all time favourites have already been performed
