Moon Knight Ladies (Adjacent???)
Baroness Khonshu of Earth-51910
She's a tyrant who enslaves mutants and turns people into werewolves, but dang, look at this design.
Tumblr media
(Secret Wars Journal #1)
This iteration of Khonshu was created by Matthew Rosenberg and Luca Pizzari and appears in Secret Wars (Vol. 2/2015), #2 and #6, as well as Secret Wars Journal (Vol. 1/2015), #1.
Honestly there's not much to say, except she's as criminally condescending as 616!Khonshu and carries out the sort of vision that probably would have been the end result of the "Age of Khonshu." But again...she’s got some cool looks.

Talking Ultimate Spider-Man (2024) #1
So, Spider-Man, right?
(FULL SPOILERS FOR ULTIMATE SPIDER MAN (2024) #1, BY THE WAY!)
I want to have full disclosure here. This is my first Spider-Man comic. Most of my Spider-Man content came, before, from different adaptations. I mean, there was a period of my life where I didn't like Spidey, but that was in the unholy era of Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), two adaptations I am not a fan of. But I love the Tobey films, I love Spectacular, I even really like the Tom films. However, I am by no means a Spidey expert. I have heard the woes of modern Spider-Man comics, you know.
However, I did get excited when I heard of this new run, mainly because of the writer, Johnathan Hickman. Of all the American Comics I've read, a ton of them have come from Hickman, oddly enough. My first event comic was Secret Wars (2015), which sold me on him as a writer because, despite it being a multiversal event, it still worked on a small scale, on an emotional level. Then, though I didn't have time for the main books, I felt really fulfilled in reading House of X (2019) and Powers of X (2019). It is oddly compelling as an introduction, setting up this really interesting new status quo. Therefore, hearing he was writing a new Spidey book, I was intrigued. I knew about the other new Ultimate Universe intros he wrote, I just wasn't as hooked at them as the Spider-Man book.
Tumblr media
It starts off promisingly. After giving a quick recap of what happened before to help explain things (which is simple yet necessary) recap, we spend most of the issue just learning about Peter. You know, he's a dad, however, unexpectedly to me, it focuses much more of its time on Peter's relationship with Uncle Ben. I don't mind too much, though. In creating an alternate universe, you want to discuss things that are different from what you can write in the main universe, and given this world's premise, this seems the most interesting. I fully didn't expect the Old Man Yuri, though.
Tumblr media
This does lead to some endearing moments with J. Jonah Jameson, though. I love the moment seen above in particular, it really shows that, while abrasive, Jonah has a good heart, and cares for Peter. However, most of this helps to reveal concerns both JJ and Peter have been having about Ben's well being. Well, because May is dead
That teensy weensy, itty bitty tewwowism mentioned in the recap comes to a full head, as it turns out May died in it, alongside Norman Osborn, seemingly. They all go to this really interesting wake, headed by Matt Murdock, now a Priest, and Harry, who gives a heavy speech about it. He seems particularly scarred by these events, which I hope is explored further in later issues.
After this, we get a bit more plot as JJ and Ben storm out of the Daily Bugle as Kingpin tries to influence them in a way the two don't like. But as Fisk leaves, we meet another character, The Goblin.
Tumblr media
I like this suit, and looking at its subtleties reveals the interesting merger of Stark and Oscorp, which can lead to interesting implications to the future. This also builds some mystery to their character, as they bomb the Kingpin... Intriguing. I am actually really excited to see where this goes, as it is likely that, if this is Harry, he'll be against Spidey due to his links to Tony Stark alone. However, this seemingly more heroic bent is an interesting use of this new universe.
Well, anyways, we cut back to Ben and JJ on a date...
Tumblr media
They're actually talking about a new business, forging a new journal based on not lying. They have a really cute dynamic, and I hope to see more of them in future issues. However, from here, the issue pivots. The first half was mostly focused on establishing the Status Quo. Peter is married, Ben's alive, May isn't, so on and so forth. From here, though, things get more interesting.
Seeing Ben going forward in his life so bravely, Peter begins to speak on his mid life crisis. He starts asking about a longing, a desire for change. In this, Ben plays his usual inspiring role, but in a completely new context. Rather than great power and responsibility, it's more about seizing the day.
Tumblr media
It continues to another scene of him and MJ, where they discuss the same thing. However, there seems to be a more specific focus to it. This scene, while important for Peter's character, also gives a brief moment to really build Peter's domestic life. With the pacing of the issue to this point, there hasn't really been much of this, but I also see there wasn't really much time, so it's good that it is here, if anything. However, MJ seems fully supportive of whatever it is as Peter leaves the room, we get a brief flashback.
Tumblr media
This is were things get weird and multiversal, as Hickman tends to do. Peter learns of the whole, "Maker stole the future" thing, giving Peter the promise of his proposed future, if he will take it. We then get a brilliant scene where we watch as he gets bit, and becomes Spider-Man. There's this brilliant edit, which I'll link below, that really adds the gravitas that the moment has, taking it to the extreme.
Tumblr media
Overall, this series seems to be about lost potential. Other people have noted this, but it is, incredibly, both a story that is metacontextually interesting, as well as emotionally resonant without that.
Look at it. On one end, this seems to be addressing the image of Spider-Man's Stagnation. It fells, with this, that his married, developed life, and his Spider-Man life were split with OMD, and this book seeks to make up for lost time. It also hits hard in a modern context, as many people's prospects have felt a sense of stagnation as well. It's brilliant, and an interesting direction to take this Peter's character. It leaves me excited to see where this book takes his character next.
Tumblr media
Overall, what I can say about this book is that it feels like a great pilot. It gives me a good, brief taste of the characters, sets up the world, and builds intrigue, both in Peter's character and the purpose of the Goblin. There isn't a ton of Spider-Man, but all things considered, that's the least important to sell here, as people have gotten used to Spidey based action. We'll get time for it later, I'm sure.
If anything, I wish we got more time for meeting with the kids. We get a bit of them at the start, and I don't think there was really time for it in this really packed issue, but it is a tad disappointing. Here's hoping for some in the future.
Overall, a really strong, interesting issue of Spidey comics that will hopefully build into an all timer of a run.

Ona Simaite was a Lithuanian librarian who saved Jews, including many children, during the German occupation, and preserved literary works from the Vilna ghetto, before being arrested by the Gestapo.
Born in Akmene, Lithuania in 1894, Ona was educated in Moscow and began working at the library at Vilnius university in 1940. A book lover and intellectual, Ona was excited to be working at the oldest university in northern Europe, in a city teeming with culture. However everything changed in 1941, when the Nazis invaded Lithuania. Immediately they created a squalid ghetto and imprisoned the city’s large Jewish population. Ona was shocked and horrified when her Jewish students and colleagues suddenly disappeared.
Without a moment of doubt, she began visiting the ghetto frequently, under the pretext of collecting library books. She was shocked at what she saw there. It was hell on earth. Residents were barely alive, many of them starving to death, while others were shot in the streets, or beaten brutally and then sent to concentration camps. Ona spent the rest of the war helping Lithuanian Jews in multiple ways. In her visits to the ghetto, she smuggled food, medicine, supplies, and small firearms. After each visit, she left with documents: letters from ghetto residents to their loved ones, literary journals describing life in the ghetto, and various other important papers.
Ona helped Jews who managed to escape or avoid the ghetto by sheltering them in her own humble apartment, and when she ran out of room she found other hiding places for them. She procured fake documents enabling them to hide their Jewish identity. Saving Jews from the Nazis became the focus of her entire life. With superhuman strength and courage, she smuggled small children out of the ghetto in her big book sack, and found homes for them with people who would keep them hidden and safe. It is unknown exactly how many this mild-mannered librarian saved, because she spoke to no one about her heroic acts.
In 1944, Ona was arrested by officers of the Gestapo, the notorious German secret police. She was brutally tortured by the sadistic Nazis, and sentenced to death. Miraculously, right before her scheduled execution, the president of Vinius University found out about it and paid a large ransom for her life. The Nazis agreed not to kill her, but they refused to free her, and instead sent to the Dachau concentration camp, and later an internment camp in France. Ona was finally freed when the Allies liberated France in 1945.
After the war, Ona remained in Paris, living a quiet life as a librarian, in a home full of books. She was honored as Righteous Among the Nations by Israeli Holocaust Memorial Yad Vashem in 1966, and a tree was planted in her honor. Ona died in 1970, leaving behind a trove of her own writing: letters, journals, articles, and diaries. Many of them were published in the book “Epistophilia: Writing the Life of Ona Simaite. In 2015, Simaite Street in Vilna was named after her.
For saving an unknown number of Jews, in a multitude of ways, over four years, we honor Ona Simaite as this week’s Thursday Hero.

Hellooo
I dont wanna bother you, but would you wappen to know what that concept art of old marc was for?
Also i love your blog, makes me happy to read the tags too
Hello! Thank you so much for stopping by; I’m glad you’re enjoying this blog! :D And please, never wonder about bothering me, as I always love having a reason to go down a Moon Knight-related research rabbit hole hahaha
Nonetheless,,,,I know y’all can’t see me, so just imagine some vaguely human-shaped entity, head in hands. When I tell you I spent hours going through my posts and spinning up some increasingly bonkers boolean searches for this 🤣 and don’t get me wrong, it was absolutely a labor of love, but I’m still not entirely sure I found the exact concept art you’re referring to.
Closest thing I could find was the concept art for an aged Marc Spector in Battleworld: Secret Wars Journal (Vol. 1/2015), #1 by Luca Pizzari (which objectively I think is dope as all get out and I’m glad I found it, but I’m still not sure exactly if it’s what you’re looking for).
Tumblr media
Hope this is of some use to someone out there! Sorry if I’m off-base; I completely respect the desire to remain anonymous, so please feel free to send another ask or perhaps a DM with any more possible details or the exact image you would like to learn more about (as again, I don’t need much of a reason to keep researching Moon Knight things :D).

ABC NEWS AND AP ANNOUNCE DOCUMENTARY SPOTLIGHTING INTERSECTION BETWEEN THE KKK AND LAW ENFORCEMENT FROM GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS PRODUCTIONS AND ABC NEWS STUDIOS
‘Grand Knighthawk: Infiltrating the KKK’ Premieres on Hulu Thursday, April 27
Tumblr media
ABC News Studios*
TRAILER and KEY ART
In a first-time collaboration, ABC News and The Associated Press announced today a documentary that takes viewers inside one of the world’s most sinister secret societies — the Ku Klux Klan. Based on an award-winning investigative AP series, the true-crime documentary captures the infiltration of the klan in northern Florida by a former Army infantryman named Joe Moore and includes exclusive new interviews with the FBI agents who oversaw the operation and exposes systemic corruption. “Grand Knighthawk: Infiltrating the KKK” premieres April 27 on Hulu.
Produced by award-winning anchor and journalist George Stephanopoulos and his production unit, George Stephanopoulos Productions within ABC News Studios, the documentary follows Moore, an undercover source working for the FBI. Told through firsthand accounts and rarely heard undercover audio and video recordings, Moore’s operation exposes not just the perverseness of white supremacy in the Deep South but also its troubling intersection with law enforcement.
The documentary marks the first time two of America’s largest and most-trusted news organizations are working together. AP award-winning journalist Jason Dearen’s investigative series “The Badge and the Cross” serves as the source material, which exposed ties between the white supremacist group and law enforcement. The series won the 2022 Online Journalism Award for feature reporting, large newsroom, as well as the Society for Professional Journalists’ 2022 Green Eyeshade Award for the best investigative reporting in the American South.
“Joe Moore’s story is chilling and instructive,” said ABC News’ “Good Morning America” and “This Week” anchor Stephanopoulos. “I’m grateful to Jason Dearen for uncovering it, and I’m honored to work with The Associated Press to bring this story to a wider audience.”
“The Associated Press is pleased to work with ABC News to bring to light a chilling investigation into the ongoing problem of extremist infiltration into U.S. law enforcement agencies,” said AP acting Global Investigative Editor Alison Kodjak. “The documentary reveals in granular detail an important story of systemic corruption.”
The AP project began in 2015 and centered on three current and former prison guards who authorities had arrested for plotting a former inmate’s murder and the FBI’s discovery that those guards were klansmen. Following the story for years, in 2020, Dearen received transcripts from the trial of the KKK members and learned that an FBI informant by the name of Joe Moore was the star witness. Moore’s story helped show how the state’s corrections system is designed to keep such reports inside prison walls.
“Grand Knighthawk: Infiltrating the KKK” is produced by George Stephanopoulos Productions and ABC News Studios in collaboration with The Associated Press. Jennifer Joseph is the executive producer for George Stephanopoulos Productions.

FLP POETRY BOOK OF THE DAY: Our Dark and Radiant Land by Helena Lipstadt
ADVANCE ORDER: https://www.finishinglinepress.com/product/our-dark-and-radiant-land-by-helena-lipstadt/
AFTER THE #HOLOCAUST, Helena Lipstadt’s survivor parents fled #Poland vowing never to return. Decades later, after her parents’ deaths, she warily visits, then returns, again and again. Walking on the city streets where her parents played as children, Helena begins to comprehend the interwoven culture of Jews and Poles. She honors her family’s layered history as she seeks and builds connections with the Polish people she meets. In powerful prose and poems, Lipstadt looks at a bloodstained past with her heart’s eyes. Our Dark and Radiant Land is a map to a new place of seeing, where truth and reconciliation coexist.
Helena Lipstadt is the author of two chapbooks, Leave Me Signs and If My Heart Were a Desert. Her poems have been featured in The Midwest Quarterly, Sinister Wisdom, About Place Journal, and elsewhere. Anthologies that hold her prose work include The Challenge of Shalom, From Memory to Transformation and A Dangerous New World: Maine Voices on the Climate Crises. Her work has been generously supported by residencies at WUJS Arts Project, Arad, Israel and The Borderland Foundation, Sejny, Poland.
PRAISE FOR Our Dark and Radiant Land by Helena Lipstadt
“Our Dark and Radiant Land is powerful, hypnotic and unforgettable. It leaves the reader breathless and hungry for more: a literary fix that only a brilliant writer could pull off.”
–Laurel Ann Bogen, author of Washing a Language and Psychosis in the Produce Department: New and Selected Poems, 1975-2015
“In Lipstadt’s luminous collection, the poet goes in search of love and meaning in a homeland she never knew. The poems dazzle, the images sing and Poland, both present and past, comes to life. It is an elegant, ferocious and heartbreaking triumph.”
–Chris Wells, Obie Award-winning writer and performer, founder and host of The Secret City
“Our Dark and Radiant Land is more than history. It’s the legacy of war and genocide, the courageous embrace of the present, and an invitation to a possible future. This book is the mastery of spirit, poetry and insight so finely blended that profound loss, longing, and beauty exist honestly together. As readers, we have the opportunity to witness a story of shifting generations alive together in one moment and to hold the unbearable in an inquiry of love.”
–Barbara Maria, author of Palace Boulevard and Crossing Time
