Centuries ago, when the Eliksni first came to this system, when your father was just a hatchling... our people had nothing. So, when they discovered Nezarec, Disciple of the Witness, entombed in the lunar Pyramid, they harvested its Dark power for themselves... and for the future of our people.
Over time, the relics of Nezarec were separated, and scattered across the galaxy. Their influence faded, but the stains of their power endure.

Just to jump in front of the inevitable "Osiris is gonna be possessed by Nezarec!" bullet that I'm sure we're gonna see a lot of from loretubers, in the cutscene Saint specifically says Misraax "claimed from [the reliquaries] a mass of primal Darkness". He didn't actually make Nezarec himself into, like, corpse tea or whatever, he took pure Darkness energy from Nezarec and converted it into something useful (tea). Just like we can use Darkness the way we use Light, Misraax is using Darkness energy and making something that can heal Osiris. I don't think any of Nezarec's consciousness went with it, and it's even possible the whispers Misraax heard telling him how to do it might have come from Nezarec himself, though that's just conjecture on my part.
Basically, still risky, but most likely not possessed.

The Sundial's Core
So way back in April last year I made this post. The TL;DR of it is that I was theorizing what the heart of the Sundial was made out of and promptly settled on "darkness" and "taken energy". Now that we're further into the story and the Darkness itself I think I've finally pinpointed Exactly what it was and why this is a bad omen:
Let's begin.
So here are key descriptors of what the heart of the Sundial is:
"The Sundial is my greatest creation and my greatest regret. What I had to do to forge it I can never take back. As a result, it has components that consume Light. And if you're serious about operating it again, you'll need to feed it. Nothing is free. Ever." —Osiris
Recharging the Sundial
Drifter walked to the central spire and put his ear up against it. “This core…” he said, leaning close. His eyes darted back to Osiris. “It’s whispering.”
Osiris’s expression didn’t change; his arms didn’t uncross. “We’ll seal the core away. I understand the ramifications.”
“Good luck keeping that contained. Not something I would bargain with, hotshot.” Drifter stood up and beckoned his Ghost with two fingers. It floated earthward and unleashed a holographic array of statistics along the Sundial deck.
The Sundial
It eats Light, it whispers, and it's something even Drifter wouldn't bargain with. A lot of people at the time (wrongly) assumed it was an Ahamkara bone that Osiris used. Which... didn't make sense in my eyes. Sure Ahamkaras ascend after death but they aren't something Drifter would be nervous about. Additionally Ahamkaras, as we know now (and even then) are not the only things that whisper.
The Darkness tends to have the market on whispering.
Alright I know you're wondering why the Sundial would be relevant right now at all. I have two answers.
Osiris is on the poster for Lightfall, meaning he'll be relevant to the story. (And, I cannot stress this enough, awake.)
This quote from Falcon's Chase: "I think I hear the fluttering of wings, but the hum of the Sundial gives no direction."
Why would Bungie bring up the Sundial in such a seemingly random place in one of the very few loretabs we have of Osiris's current perspective?
I think this is the answer: We're going to learn what the core of the Sundial is. Not only that, but I believe I have a reasonable answer already.
The core of the Sundial is a piece of Nezarec.
Following this week's story, it was revealed that Nezarec was a disciple of the witness, not only that but he was the one who piloted the pyramid on the moon.
The signs of the Sundial having a piece of Nezarec are all there: dangerously powerful, whispering, and apparently it had ramifications that Osiris was even uncertain of.
I think the reason the Sundial was mentioned in Falcon's Chase is because that loretab was released a season before Nezarec's reveal. Additionally I think it's somehow linked to Osiris's unnatural coma.
What this means for the future I'm not quite sure, but what I do know is that a piece of Nezarec powering the Sundial would explain how he was able to power it at all. My speculation of it being Oryx's heart in the past wasn't quite far off: it needed something powerful, something Dark, and especially something paracausal.
As for Osiris... I can't help but wonder if there's going to be something related to Nezarec in order to free him from his coma.
