10 Fandoms ~ 10 Characters ~ 10 Tags
Do I have 10 fandoms? We'll see.
Nina Simonetti ~ Soy Luna
Tumblr media
I mean, I feel like many think that my favorite character is Gastón since I talk about him so much and have so many headcanons, but it is actually Nina. I see myself lot in her, as the shy nerd who thinks that no one would ever like her.
Nina is probably the best representation of the stereotypical "nerd" I have seen in the media. Even if she is into books and doesn't talk much and is portrayed as not conventionally attractive (even when she is absolutely gorgeous. If the aim was not to have her like that, casting did not get the memo), she can still want romance and someone who is conventionally attractive is attracted to her and absolutely falls head over heels for her.
She is also quite fleshed out and we know some background for why she is pretty closed off at the start of the series, primarily due to the trauma of her parents' divorce and how it still is handled. No one ever blames her for being shy, but the right people (mostly her best friend and boyfriend) who love her are able to bring her out of her shell.
Since she is a nerd in a sense, she is into stuff like math, but really the thing she is into which we don't see many nerds to be is writing, which is something many of us can relate to.
The sad thing about this is how she was handled in S3. She was always the main character's best friend, but that season she really was reduced to that archetype and not allowed to do anything for herself outside of being heartbroken and suddenly being a journalistic writer. Oh and being assaulted, by a guy she only wanted to be friends with.
2. Francesca Caviglia ~ Violetta
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love the original DCLA resident Italian? Truthfully she is tied with Naty for my favorite, but I went with her here. Who doesn't love Fran? She's pretty, fun, has common sense (something that is rare in DCLA) most of the time, and she is a soprano just like me.
You can just identify with her when Vilu comes up with new dump plan
3. Olivia Rooney ~ Liv and Maddie
Tumblr media
First of all, I need her whole wardrobe and the shoes.
Secondly, I love her with my whole heart. She's a teenage celebrity who may seem bit ditzy and shallow, but in actuality, she is kind, loving, and intelligent person who will fight anyone who tries to hurt the people she loves.
Even if Liv was famous and probably had money, she never was spoiled or thought she was better than anyone else. And she used her resources to do good.
And you absolutely would be surprised that she only really had one boyfriend throughout the 4 season run of the show. Nad they did her one ship so dirty for no reason. S3 is the death of ships in shows, always.
4. Elton John Cashwell ~ HSMTMTS
Tumblr media
Everyone knows that I am a loyal member of Ej Caswell defense squad. He deserves so much better.
I always had a soft spot for him in S1 and felt like there was more to him... now we know why.
EJ is just a person who tries his best but anything is never enough for anyone. He is legit the best and most complex character in this show.
5. Anakin Skywalker ~ Star Wars
Tumblr media
It has been a while since I have talked about Star Wars. I seem to be into broken guys. I mean have you seen the Clone Wars? NAaking is the best!
6. Ronald Weasley ~ Harry Potter
Tumblr media
I am talking about the book-Ron. Movies... we don't know them at this blog.
Ron is the best friend you would ever want. Harry and Ron is my favorite literature Bromance.
7. Adrian Agreste ~ Miraculous
Tumblr media
I already had EJ here, so why not Adrian too. I seem really be into broken, emotionally abused teens. I am really finding it hard to put into words why I love these characters so much
8. Samuel Costa ~ Alex & Co
Tumblr media
I don't think I have ever talked about Alex & Co and my love for the hot mess that it is.
Anyways, with Nina, Sam is one of the best portrays of a nerd on screen. International Disney just knows how to do it.
Sam is loved by his friends, never treated as annoying and a "popular" girl falls in love with him. He and Rebecca are the best ship and they even have Diecescaesc hiding plot. There also is potential for tradic backstory that we never got since we do not know about his parents.
Okay, I made it to 8. Good enough...

10 characters, 10 media, 10 tags--tagged by @flight-of-fantasy
1. Arthur Pendragon — BBC Merlin
Tumblr media
(It was so hard to pick between the main four and Gwaine. I was not originally an Arthur stan, but then I wrote an entire data driven essay on him and I was left with no choice but to join the Arthur Pendragon defense squad.)
2. Jet Rocks — Dimension 20’s A Crown of Candy
Tumblr media
(I am an Emily Axford lover first, and a gremlin second)
3. Rose Tyler — Doctor Who
Tumblr media
(Can you believe I almost forgot her? Shout out to the first character to ever leave me properly sobbing over a heartbreak, and a character who treats the entire galaxy with dignity and respect, even if it means fist fighting those who don’t. Also Bad Wolf did something to my brain.)
4. Jaskier — The Witcher
Tumblr media
(Choosing between him and Yen was so hard but the sing songy twit won out)
5. Andhera — Dimension 20’s A Court of Fey and Flowers
Tumblr media
(I don’t care that it’s dimension 20 again, it’s a different season with different cast members and DMs. Plus I love my socially awkward asexual non-binary fey guy.)
6. Alexis Rose — Schitts Creek
Tumblr media
7. Catra — She Ra
Tumblr media
8. Fia Boginya — NADDPOD C2: Eldermourne
(No GIF because NADDPOD is audio only. But remember what I said about being an Emily Axford lover?)
9. Toph — Avatar the Last Airbender
Tumblr media
(It was so close between her, Zuko, and Sokka. I literally typed out Zuko and changed my mind.)
10. Kugrash — Dimension 20s The Unsleeping City
Tumblr media
(Look, just be glad it wasn’t all dimension 20 okay? I love me a pathetic literal rat man, and it’s in an entirely different universe to A Crown of Candy, which are both different from A Court of Fey and Flowers. Sue me.)
Honorable mentions go out to Ruby Rocks, Rosamund Du Prix, and Evan Kelmp. I could have made this list so heavily Dimension 20 if I included them.

I know I sound like a broken record but I am a little winedrunk so 🤷.
Soa isn't perfect, no way. I have shat on s5/6/7 enough and have been very frustrated with the plotlines which resembled plotholes in the end. I will never forgive soa for Wendy in S7.
But. God, what a tragedy. There is nothing like the cathartic feeling of a tragedy. Nothing that let's terror creep into your heart like retrospection; maybe you are caught in a tragic play too? Maybe you cannot escape faith and the narrative either? Isn't hubris punished by the gods? Can you escape fate? Aren't we all already dead?
SOA is a show where I do not sympathize or like 97% of the main characters. I have no favorite Son and think the "defense squads" and "deserves better"- posts are a little silly, respectfully, considering its a club of gangbangers, murderers and rapists and their enablers. The taste of hope is still so sweet! The pull of the outside, of redemption! Taras pull. I found myself trying to kinda negotiate, to reason with the story so at least the kids would make it out somehow untarnished. You know, what if jax went to prison for 5 years. That would have been punishment enough? What if Tara truly can/will never practice again? Please let them be humbled and punished but let them make it out! Let them live. What if Gemma goes to prison? That will give them a breather? What if Tig fucking finally takes responsibility? All the while knowing there is no other way for the story to end but in "oroboros suicide". It had to happen this way, it's who they are. But what if they would have made it? Broken and weary but alive? What if? What is the price of a human life?
It is such a wonderful filthy set up too! The blood, the violence. There is no pretense, no obscuring veil, no blinding spoils and winnings. For example the Sopranos constantly put Tony's "mob time" in contrast with how well off and rich and nice Carmellas and the kids life is. The pretense of balance, of sacrifices for your familys better comfortable life. What is the life of another human being worth? A house, college, jewelry? Dog eats dog in the end. It could have been you who earned all that pretty. Don't you want it too?
But SOA started out filthy and kept that energy. It kept it honest. The violence and at a certain point you cannot justify it even for yourself. You simply sink into the swamp and it keeps dragging you deeper. It's a never ending circle of witnessing your "brothers" do the most vile shit, covering it up. And then committing horrors yourself and them showing up for you! You cannot leave without burning yourself.
How Opie and Jax were completely disappointed and disillusioned with the club, having grown up with a more idealistic fantasy. And still didn't leave! Couldn't leave! Because the fear of the outside was bigger. The way "club life" was so deeply ingrained it was unimaginable for them, despite the countless betrayals and death, to live somewhere the "club rules" didnt matter didn't compute. The fear of being no one and nothing. All I ever did well is outlaw. Dude with a ged and a lousy mechanic. Not even their children could pull them out. It is who they are. You cannot change the narrative from within, you must leave it or live it and die by its rules.
And how every season Jax agreed to leave the club. And then 1 last thing came up that he needed to finish. A final ride, a last hurrah. But the consequences of that kept him in the club and made up another reason to stay. Another last problem to solve. And so it goes. Over and over. Again and again. Self made horrors. A circular narrative he cannot escape. Actions and consequences. And the only club.life problem solving and code of honor he ever knew. Without it he was truly nothing. Couldn't center himself on anything else. Lived by the sword and died by it. But he knew. In the end he knew. And he couldn't escape. And he couldn't change and make another choice, walka way and find another solution.
Opie. Opie and how him losing faith in Jax killed him. He held on as long as he could and then killed himself for tla club and brotherhood he didn't believe in and that certainly didn't belive in him when it mattered. My Chewbacca Ophelia. Made Jax pay by doing it and making Jax bear witness. His last chance at inflicting his brothers pain.
The way Tara knew. She figured it out, what kind of narrative she was in. I will die if I have to. At least I will die knowing I tried everything to safe them. And the five minutes of hope! Only to die and for her children not to make it out the way she wanted! The second she died the outside/the way out died with her. Jaxs fate was decided. The kids fate. His tomb closed that moment. Gemmas too. The way Gemma was ready to die by her sons hand because this is who they are. Because she made him that way! Because there has never been another choice. No other way to end the lies and to free the children. The way Gemma controlled Jax even in her last minutes. How she chose her executioner, how she put that on her son. How she wanted him to live with the consequences of killing his own mother. Filth teaches filth. Gemma is the narrative and its victim! She is the reaper. She is the murder. She doesn't have anything else.
It was all so easily preventable. The circle so easily broken. But only from the outside. The narrative grabbed even Tara and couldn't let her leave. Like quicksand. It all could have been over in 5 seconds. If only Jax killed Gemma. But what a horrific thing to do. How he (and Tara) bargained for another way out. Gemma won't let you, Charming won't let you.

10 Premier League Popcorn Moments to Keep Your Eyes Peeled
Tumblr media
As the Premier League action heats up, this weekend promises exciting matchups and intriguing narratives. Here's a closer look at some of the standout fixtures: 1. West Ham vs Liverpool Klopp's Set-Piece Challenge Liverpool's struggle to defend set pieces against Everton should serve as a warning for Jürgen Klopp as they face West Ham. David Moyes' side, despite a recent collapse, can pose a significant threat from dead balls. Klopp must prepare his defenders to handle James Ward-Prowse's deliveries and the aerial prowess of West Ham's key players. 2. Fulham vs Crystal Palace Mateta's Transformation Jean-Philippe Mateta has experienced a remarkable transformation under Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace. Previously a bit-part player, Mateta has thrived under Glasner's guidance, scoring eight goals in nine appearances. Fulham's defense will need to be on high alert when facing Mateta and a Palace side that is creating ample scoring opportunities. 3. Newcastle vs Sheffield United Howe's Underrated Coaching Eddie Howe's coaching ability should not be underestimated, despite Newcastle's recent disappointment against Crystal Palace. Howe has transformed a team consisting of players from five years ago into European contenders. As they face Sheffield United, Howe's coaching prowess will be crucial in avoiding a repeat of their earlier heavy defeat. 4. Manchester United vs Burnley: Antony's Last Chance? Antony's lackluster performance against Sheffield United raises questions about his future at Manchester United. With off-field allegations and on-pitch inadequacies, this match could be his last chance to make a positive impact. Erik ten Hag faces a tough decision whether to start Antony or not, as Burnley presents a crucial test before a challenging run-in. 5. Everton vs Brentford Safety at Stake Everton, buoyed by their recent win over Liverpool, aim to secure their top-flight status with a victory against Brentford. Despite being docked eight points, Sean Dyche's team has shown resilience and consistency. A win here would be a remarkable achievement, and the support of Evertonians will be crucial in maintaining their momentum. 6. Luton's Battle for Survival Luton finds themselves in a desperate situation, sitting 19th in the table. Despite their struggles away from home, their upcoming kind home fixtures against Everton and Fulham offer a glimmer of hope. With a potential total of 31 points, Luton's fight to stay up is far from over, and manager Rob Edwards must ensure that morale remains high. 7. Chelsea's Defensive Woes Chelsea's recent trip to Arsenal highlighted the absence of key players, including right-back Malo Gusto. Gusto's injury poses a significant challenge for Chelsea as they face Aston Villa. Stand-in right-back Alfie Gilchrist will need to be up to the task against the in-form Morgan Rogers. 8. Bournemouth vs Brighton: On-the-Beach Derby? With both teams in the middle of the table, Bournemouth and Brighton's encounter could be seen as a relaxed end-of-season fixture. However, Bournemouth still has something to play for, aiming for their highest-ever Premier League finish. Dominic Solanke's impressive form adds an intriguing element to the match. 9. North London Derby: Arsenal's Momentum Arsenal enters the derby against Tottenham with a busy schedule but a near fully fit squad. Despite fatigue and less time to prepare tactically, Arsenal's confidence from their emphatic 5-0 victory over Chelsea could give them an edge in the clash. 10. Nottingham Forest vs Manchester City- Hostilities Resumed Nottingham Forest faces a challenging match against Manchester City, with the odds seemingly against them. Previous encounters between the two teams have been heated, and with both managers known for their vocal criticisms, sparks could fly at the City Ground. Upcoming Match Dates - West Ham v Liverpool, Saturday 12.30pm (all times BST) - Fulham v Crystal Palace, Saturday 3pm - Newcastle v Sheffield United, Saturday 3pm - Manchester United v Burnley, Saturday 3pm - Everton v Brentford, Saturday 5.30pm - Wolves v Luton, Saturday 3pm - Aston Villa v Chelsea, Saturday 8pm - Bournemouth v Brighton, Sunday 2pm - Tottenham v Arsenal, Sunday 2pm - Nottingham Forest v Manchester City, Sunday 4.30pm Stay tuned for these captivating matches as the Premier League continues to deliver thrilling moments and unpredictable outcomes. Don't miss out on the excitement as the teams battle for crucial points and their respective ambitions. Read the full article

North End fail to sting the Hornets
A disappointing 0-0 draw at Vicarage Road was the outcome on 2024 Gentry Day as 2024 fans travelled to Hertfordshire to celebrate our annual event. North End probably had the best two chances of the game through Hughes and Keane but the home side were easier on the eye in a real dour mid table Championship encounter. I thought that a patched up midfield did pretty well on the day and that defensively North End looked generally sound enough. However at the other end of the pitch I thought we lacked the presence needed to worry a solid Watford defence and I suppose a no score draw was probably the most likely result given the way that both teams set up.
Ryan Lowe made three changes to the side beaten at Birmingham on Monday afternoon with Cunningham, Storey and Osmajic replacing Frokjaer, Holmes and Mawene. North End started brightly enough and Whatmough, playing in the centre of midfield had the first chance o f the game heading wide. Watford then began to settle and played some nice football without creating too many chances. Probably their best chance of the half came when Lewis fired over just before the quarter hour mark when he really should have scored. North End`s best chance of the half came when a cross found Hughes at the back post but the Welshman fired wide and held his head in his hands hardly believing that his first time shot had not gone in the net.
No changes for North End after the break and with a swirling wind slightly in their favour North End attacked their travelling support. North End started well enough but again looked powder puff up front not being able to wrestle with the Watford centre backs. There were a couple of half chances at either end but nothing really to write home about before North End had another great chance with twenty minutes to go. Will Keane hit a first time shot that should have given us the lead but the ball went agonisingly wide and we were left to rue what might have been. Ryan Lowe brought on Frokjaer and Stewart with ten minutes to go but it was too little too late in a game that North End needed to win to keep level with Norwich who are now seven points clear of us and we have just six games left to go in this campaign.
So a slightly deflating draw on the big day of the year for North End and hopes of the play offs are now disappearing into the distance. It looks like we will need to win five out of the last six games to have any sort of shout and with Norwich, West Brom, Southampton and Leicester to come that seems a pretty tall order to me. However it is never over till its over and North End must beat Huddersfield on Tuesday evening at Deepdale or it really is over and the club can put next years season cards on sale on Wednesday Morning. Yes, we had some key players missing but a bit of hunger was missing on Saturday at Watford just at the time of the season when you want your squad to be at its hungriest. We are still in their with a chance but it is a very slender one.

Vermont: 2023-24 America East Men's Basketball Champions
Tumblr media
The University of Vermont men's basketball team found out in the third game the resolve it possessed — however incalculable it might be to truly measure such a trait.
The Catamounts' roaring comeback vs. Charleston on Nov. 16 at the Myrtle Beach Invitational was the first of five victories this season after trailing by 10 or more points.
"We just knew the kind of guys we had in the locker room, it didn’t matter how far down we were," Vermont junior forward Ileri Ayo-Faleye said. "We had the type of dudes who were going to fight back and never give up."
No deficit too big to overcome. No foe too imposing to handle. Nothing, it seemed, could rattle this year's Catamounts.
And for the third straight March, Vermont's opponent in the America East championship game couldn't break that will. The Catamounts host this day, and own it, annually.
Behind Ayo-Faleye and Shamir Bogues' 94 feet of influence, the top-seeded Catamounts outlasted No. 2 UMass Lowell despite a halftime deficit for a 66-61 victory in the league's title game at sold-out Patrick Gym on Saturday, sealing a championship three-peat and booking yet another berth to the NCAA Tournament.
On a 10-game winning streak, the Catamounts (28-6) join the 2004-05 Vermont squad with three consecutive league tournament titles. The Catamounts, with 11 conference titles to extend their league record, have won five of the last six America East championships.
They'll learn their seed, site and opponent during Selection Sunday on CBS (6 p.m. eastern).
"This group is just so resilient and so tough and these two guys up here epitomize that as much as anybody in our program," 13-year UVM coach John Becker said of Ayo-Faleye and Bogues. "Really, they were the pillars of our program this year. The relentlessness, the athleticism, the instincts with which they play with is breathtaking. They brought so much joy to Catamount Country."
Bogues, a junior transfer guard from Tarleton State, was named the tournament's most outstanding player after collecting 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists, four steals and no turnovers in 32 minutes in Saturday's final. Ayo-Faleye, a second-year transfer from Rhode Island, posted nine points, five boards, four assists, two steals, a trio of blocks and no turnovers in 36 minutes.
"We were down at half and still found a way to win," said Ayo-Faleye, who earned a spot on the all-championship team. "We stayed the course, listened to the coaches, listened to the messaging and just applied it. This time of year it’s all about execution."
Said Bogues: "Our message coming in was to stay together. And that’s what we did today."
TJ Long, also on the all-championship squad, sank four 3-pointers and totaled 14 points and three assists. Fifth-year senior Aaron Deloney added a dozen points thanks to a 7-for-8 effort at the foul line and one game-sealing layup, and Nick Fiorillo added 11 points for the Catamounts.
Cam Morris (17 points, 10 rebounds), Brayden O'Connor (14 points) and Ayinde Hikim (11 points) each reached double figures for Lowell.
Saturday's championship encapsulated much of Vermont's gutsy season. The Catamounts struggled to score around the paint, had stretches of shooting dry spells from their outside threats, and had to work from behind. But like they've done all winter, the Catamounts drummed up answers with elite-level defense and a plenty of timely and much-needed Long 3-pointers.
"Knowing that there is going to be adversity throughout the game, just weathering the storm and being able to come out with the win is the most important thing," Ayo-Faleye said. "Never getting too high or too low, just staying even and knowing that we are going to pull it out."
Vermont's early, 19-11 advantage was wiped out by inefficiency on offense — seven straight missed field goals — and the River Hawks (22-10) not only climbed back into contention but took a 32-29 margin into halftime. A year ago, Lowell also had a slight edge at the break before Vermont pulled away.
"UMass Lowell — give them the credit they deserve. They’ve been a team that’s been nipping at our heels for the last bunch of years," Becker said. "They are tough, they are experienced. They battled and we knew it was going to be a tough game. I have a lot of respect for (coach Pat Duquette) and his program."
In a game that featured 11 lead changes and five ties, Vermont created breathing room with a 13-4 spurt highlighted by a pair of Fiorillo triples and an Ayo-Faleye hook shot for a 60-50 lead with 4:01 left in regulation.
To start the separating run, Fiorillo poured in a 3-pointer following Ayo-Faleye's drive into the paint and kick to the wing. Ayo-Faleye also got a crafty and nimble reserve layup to drop through and Bogues steered in a baseline runner on back-to-back possessions.
Ayo-Faleye's hook shot, though, was the type of offense Vermont had been lacking throughout the year without a true post-up presence. The Catamounts won without that position last year with Robin Duncan and Dylan Penn, and have pulled off a similar scheme with Bogues' skillset.
"I thought he made the biggest play of the game," Becker said of Ayo-Faleye's hook.
The Riverhawks made one last push, uncorking a quick 5-0 spurt to trail 60-55 with 3:29 to go. After Fiorillo's two foul shots and Connor's basket made it a five-point game again, Morris missed both of his free-throw attempts and Deloney, the team leader, soared for the final dagger to secure the Catamounts' three-peat.
Instead of letting the clock tick down, Deloney saw an opening to the basket, and the speedy guard bolted to the hoop for a finish off the glass and 64-57 lead with 43 seconds left.
Counting the championship awarded following the cancellation of the 2020 final due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Deloney is now a four-time America East tournament champion, joining former teammates Ben Shungu and Robin Duncan.
"You just get to see kids grow up. AD is a man now. He was a little kid when he got here," Becker said.
Vermont also pulled off three in a row with three remarkably different squads. The Catamounts reloaded this winter after the graduation of four starters, just like they had to do following the 2021-22 campaign. Their program mission remains in sight: Advance to the second weekend at the NCAA Tournament.
"These guys want to go to the tournament and we want to win. We are trying to get this program to Sweet 16s," Becker said. "We are a national brand, we are nationally relevant. I’m not going to let anyone in this program be comfortable with what we did or done. We want to do the next thing until I run out of goals and then I’ll retire if there’s nothing left to shoot for.
"I’m going to continue to try and dream big here."

On a Scale of Russell Wilson to Tom Brady:
How successful will Aaron Rodgers run with the Jets be?
The Nathaniel Hackett and Aaron Rodgers reunion did end up happening after all……just not in Denver (sorry Broncos Country, enjoy the ride with Russ). Instead he emerged from the darkness to join the New York Jets and give them legitimate Super Bowl aspirations for the first time in over a decade. That being said, we've seen very different versions of this movie before. The academy award winning epics that were Tom Brady and Matthew Stafford's first year with the Bucs and Rams respectively and Russell Wilson’s bootleg porno version of those movies you illegally downloaded by accident. You thought you were getting to watch Harry Potter work magic with his wand and instead……well you got a very different version of that same premise.
The point is, the NFL is more complicated than take Player A insert into Team B and experience immediate success. What Brady and Stafford accomplished were both truly remarkable and what happened with Wilson, well fuck if any of us know. So how does Rodgers’ opportunity compare to the last few vets to jettison their home for a promising team on the rise? Today we’ll look across the board and see which team was most appealing for their eventual signal caller in a variety of areas such as roster, resources, division, coaching staff and more. We will be skipping one honorable mention in Matt Ryan who had a similar opportunity with the Colts because well….. nothing about the Colts’ 2022 season is worth revisiting. Let’s start with:
The Squads
The Bucs:
-Mike Evans (3 Pro Bowls & 2016 Second-Team All-Pro*)
-Chris Godwin (1 Pro Bowl & 2019 Second-Team All-Pro*)
-Shaq Barrett (Super Bowl 50 Champion, 2019 Second-Team All Pro*)
*before Tom Brady joined the team
The Bucs team that eventually landed the GOAT boasted incredible pass catchers that far exceeded anything Brady had at his deploy in recent years. They also had a defense that could close games and had gone nearly .500 with a Quarterback who had thrown 30 interceptions the year before.
The run game left a lot to be desired and there wasn’t that reliable safety blanket for 3rd and long situations, but Brady’s legacy attracted the likes of Leonard Fournette (2,631 yards & 17 TDs in his first 3 seasons) and Antonio Brown (7 Pro Bowls & 4 All-Pros) while even luring Rob Gronkowski (5 Pro-Bowls & 4 All-Pros) out of a retirement we all felt was premature.
The Rams:
-Cooper Kupp (288 receptions for 3,570 yards*)
-Robert Woods (Two 1,000+ yard seasons)
-Aaron Donald (7 Pro Bowls, 6 All-Pros, 3-time DPOY*)
-Jalen Ramsey (4 Pro Bowls & 2 All-Pros*)
-Andrew Whitworth (4 Pro Bowls & 2 All-Pros)
*before Matthew Stafford joined the team
The Rams team that acquired Matthew Stafford was mostly successful under Jared Goff. But Sean McVay was certain they needed one more piece to get over the top. And what better match for a team that had continually underachieved than a guy who had continually underachieved!
Well despite our cynicism, this ended up being the right move too. Not only did Stafford join a team fraught with elite players, his play and the Rams’ aggressiveness attracted more. By the end of the year the Rams had cast household names such as Von Miller (Super Bowl 50 Champion w/ 8 Pro Bowls & 3 All-Pros) and Odell Beckham Jr. (3-time Pro Bowler w/ Five 1,000+ yard seasons) to win a Lombardi at home in Los Angeles (and likely an eventual Oscar for the film rights).
The Broncos:
-Courtland Sutton (2019 Pro Bowler)
-Jerry Jeudy (157 Receptions for 2,295 Yards in first 3 seasons)
-Tim Patrick (11 TDs from 2020 to 2021)
-Javonte Williams (903 yards in Rookie Season)
-Patrick Surtain (2021 PFWA All-Rookie Team*)
-Bradley Chubb (2020 Pro Bowler & 2018 PFWA All-Rookie Team*)
*before Russell Wilson joined the team
At face value, the Broncos’ Team that Russell Wilson joined was talented, but totally unproven. A lot of their hype was based on potential and what players might become in a competent Offense.
Having whored around with 11 starting Quarterbacks since Peyton Manning gave them a night they will never forget, the Broncos were desperate for any form of stability they could find. Rumors were abound that Rodgers was actually their first choice, but another Super Bowl winning Quarterback with 9 Pro Bowls seemed like a hell of a consolation prize. We don’t need to tell you it was not. Denver fans are hoping and praying that Hackett was the real problem and injuries to key contributors in Williams and Patrick certainly didn’t help, but it’s pretty hard to unsee the disaster that was Dangeruss’ 2022 season.
The Jets:
-Garrett ‘Offensive Rookie of the Year’ Wilson
-Sauce ‘Defensive Rookie of the Year’ Gardner
-Quinnen Williams (2022 First Team All-Pro)
-Breece Hall (Perennial Ass Kicker before ACL Tear)
-Allen Lazard & Randall Cobb (Rodgers’ Boys)
The New York Jets were the darling of Draft Analysts last offseason. And while a lot of those idiots give blistering hot takes that age like milk every year, they were right to exude praise on this Jets’ class. Sauce Gardner allowed the lowest passer rating and completions from opposing QBs while holding the highest PFF Coverage Grade AS A ROOKIE.
On the other side of the ball, Breece Hall looked like a budding super star before an unfortunate ACL tear ended his season prematurely, while Garrett Wilson put up over 1,100 yards in his first year despite Quarterback play that was so god damn awful they should add a provision in the Geneva Convention to prevent any fanbase from suffering such atrocity ever again. But moving away from Zach Wilson isn’t the only benefit of acquiring Rodgers. Like their counterparts in LA and Tampa Bay, New York is already reaping the benefits of the proven veteran’s presence, as it enabled them to win the Dalvin Cook sweepstakes, adding a four-time Pro Bowl Running Back to their suddenly robust Offense.
Winner: Bucs
It’s tough not to go Rams here based on what Cooper Kupp ended up achieving with Stafford, but based on the situation each QB walked into, Tampa Bay was the most established at the time. After all, two Pro Bowl receivers and an Elite Defense is about as appealing as it gets for a Quarterback.
The Divisions
The Bucs (NFC South):
Tom Brady walked into a division that featured established, but aging veteran Quarterbacks in Drew Brees & Matt Ryan and a Carolina team that was…‘retooling’ to put it politely.
Outside of the Saints, who were coming off of a dominant 13-3 season (albeit with an embarrassing home playoff loss to Kirk Cousins), the division as a whole failed to eclipse .500. Matt Rhule’s reign of terror was in its infancy and Matt Ryan was still traumatized from his previous showdown with Tom.
The Rams (NFC West)
While Stafford’s debut with his new team ended the same as Brady’s, his path could not have been more different. Stafford arrived via a trade as opposed to free agency, which given the time and place, was basically the equivalent of being drafted to go to Vietnam. The NFC West was a bloodbath and the consensus best division in football a few years ago.
Russell Wilson was still playing at a high level for Seattle, Arizona had a strong cast and a young QB in Kyler Murray who was a pain in the ass to tackle, and the 49ers had been Sean McVay’s Daddy for a few years at that point.
The Broncos (AFC West):
Much like Stafford, Russell Wilson arrived via trade and certainly was not facing the path of least resistance. While the AFC West didn’t quite live up to the off-season hype as the new crown jewel division of the NFL, it still featured household names such as Davante Adams, Derwin James, Travis Kelce, and of course all ran through Patrick Mahomes who has never missed an AFC Championship since taking over as the starter for Kansas City.
Needless to say, Wilson entered a division that, on paper, looked every bit as fierce as the one he had just left. The only question was, could he elevate Denver to finally compete for the AFC West? Well obviously the answer was no, as even with the Raiders being a major disappointment in their own right, The Wilson led Broncos only rattled off one measly division win in 2022.
The Jets (AFC East)
The AFC East has come a long way from being Bill Belichik’s bitch year in and year out. The fact that Belichik’s squad is probably the least intimidating at this point speaks volumes. Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ roster features more big names than an EDC lineup and there may not be a player in the league more fun to watch than Josh Allen. In our opinion, this may be the best division in football heading into 2023 (more to come on that in an upcoming article 😉).
Rodgers is also inheriting a Jets’ team that went 2-4 in the division last year, which is honestly impressive given the fact that their Offense famously averaged production less than the average Cambodian penis length in a half against the Patriots (look it up, that’s not a joke). Needless to say, there is work to be done for New York, but it’s hard not to salivate at the idea of Rodgers dueling with the face of Madden ‘23 twice a year.
Winner: Bucs
Tompa Brady takes this one too as he clearly picked the least competitive division to join out of this group. Drew Brees may have owned him in the regular season, but by the postseason, this team exorcised its demons against the Saints, become a cohesive offensive unit, and gelled into a well-rounded football team that could consistently put up points while suffocating the opposing offense.
The Coaches
Bucs-Bruce Arians
Record before Brady: 56-39-1 for 58.9%
Rams-Sean McVay:
Record before Stafford: 43-21-0 for 67% with one conference title after resurrecting Goff who was inching towards that B word category (bust not bitch)
Broncos-Nathaniel Hackett: N/A (got his cherry popped in Dangeruss fashion on prom night)
Jets-Robert Saleh:
Record before Rodgers: 11-23 for 32.35%
At face value, Robert Saleh arguably presented the worst case for a prospective HC. Arians and McVay boasted far more impressive resumes to get the most out of their franchises’ facelift and Hackett was an unknown who had been given a lot of credit for Rodgers’ back to back MVP awards.
But as we’ve already mentioned, the kid Rodgers is replacing wasn’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard and Saleh is a Defensive guy. So how did his side of the ball look? 18.6 points per game allowed (2nd), 80.5 Average Passer Rating allowed (1st), 311.1 yards per game allowed (4th), and 1.8 opposing Touchdowns allowed per game (1st). Yeah, Saleh knows what he’s doing.
Winner: Rams
While Saleh’s Defense has been impressive and Arians did eventually take his team to the promise land, it’s hard to go anywhere else here than with a Head Coach who had actually been to a Super Bowl before getting his hand selected Quarterback.
The QBs
While the goal here is to evaluate which Quarterback walked into the best situation, it’s also important to look at who that Quarterback was at the time they made the jump to a new team if we really want to know how the latest chapter of this book is going to play out. It is the most important position in the game and not every signal caller is able to replicate who he was in the years before. So while the QB was on the prowl for a new team, said team needed to figure out if their dreams were coming true or if they were getting catfished.
Tom Brady:
Tom Brady had won as many Super Bowl Rings as any franchise in league history when the Bucs signed him in free agency. He was also coming off his lowest completion percentage (60.8) since 2013 and least touchdowns thrown (24) since 2006 while ending his tenure with the Patriots with a pick 6 to seal a One and Done exit in the Wild Card Round of the Playoffs.
At face value, this felt closer to Brett Favre with the Jets than Peyton Manning with the Broncos. And the first half of the season certainly leaned that way too. But Tom Fucking Brady did what Tom Fucking Brady does and figured it the fuck out all the way to an ass whooping against Patrick God Damn Mahomes in the mother fucking Super Bowl.
Matthew Stafford:
Matthew Stafford’s career felt like one that never lived up to its potential before Sean McVay came along. Yet in year 1 with McVay, Stafford tied the best completion percentage of his career and threw for the most yards since a man best known as Megatron graced the league with his presence.
Stafford was truly coming off a stellar season when the Rams pushed all their chips to the middle of the table. He had thrown for over 4,000 yards for the first time since 2017, maintained a completion percentage in the mid 60s, and did it all with a whopping 604 yards of rushing support from his top RB Adrian Peterson.
Russell Wilson:
Russell Wilson was a bigger disappointment than an Ocean Gate Undersea Voyage, Bill Cosby Cocktail, and Hunter Biden Combined. After swinging and missing in the draft for years, the Broncos finally said fuck it and went for the sure thing…..and still missed!
Rumors had been swirling about Wilson losing a step prior to arguably the worst trade in history taking place, but at age 33 it was easy to believe he still had plenty of football left in him. That being said, there were definitely red flags with his game. Down the stretch of the 2021 season, Wilson’s completion percentage dipped below 60 in 5 of his last 9 starts as he and the Seahawks crumbled to Pete Carroll’s first losing record in the Dangeruss era.
Many were quick to attribute that dip in production to Wilson rushing back from an injury sustained earlier in the season against the Rams, but in hindsight it seems there were far more fundamental flaws in his game that should have given the Broncos pause.
Aaron Rodgers:
This is where things get really interesting. Had the Jets acquired Rodgers a year sooner, there would be little to no reason to doubt his abilities. Rodgers won the league MVP award in back to back years for his 2020 & ‘21 campaigns. However in 2022, he lost his top weapon Davante Adams, threw for the most interceptions since his 2008 season, and was eliminated from postseason contention by the Detroit Lions team he had owned his entire career.
Make no mistake, this Packers’ offense featured several young players who were still shitting their pants in LaFleur’s system and there were several miscues that never would have happened in years prior. Yet, it’s disconcerting that Rodgers experienced such a downturn without Davante Adams, while Adams went on to have another All-Pro season his first year in Sin City.
Rodgers will also turn 40 this season (you heard it here first, get ready for the nauseating narratives that will result from this). Of the 15 Quarterbacks to start past age 40, 6 have a record above .500. Rodgers is inheriting a new team with a lot of promise, but he’s still inheriting a new team that hasn’t been there before.
Winner: The Bucs
While Tom Brady didn’t have the best stats of this group heading to his new team, he was far and away the most accomplished Free Agent by a fucking mile. Sure, questions persisted about how much of the success was Bill Belichik and how much was Brady, but no matter how you sliced it this was a Quarterback who had played in 9 Super Bowls and won 6 of them
The Verdict:
While it’s impossible to predict what the next season will bring (look no further than last offseason’s Russell Wilson takes), we can use history as a guide. The teams who made blockbuster QB trades and went on to win Super Bowls had either highly successful Head Coaches, less competitive divisions, or were inheriting a Quarterback with a wealth of experience of playing on the game’s biggest stage.
The other team on this list in the Broncos, did inherit a Quarterback who had played in multiple Super Bowls, but was joining a highly competitive division with an unproven Head Coach. While we wouldn’t rush to put Rodgers in the same category as Russell Wilson, the fact of the matter is his Jets don’t have a proven Head Coach (at least based on his record), play in an extremely competitive division featuring two playoff teams (one of which played in the AFC Championship two seasons ago), and are NOT inheriting a Quarterback who has played in multiple Super Bowls.
That’s right, for all Rodgers’ accolades and (well-deserved) praise, his last Super Bowl appearance was back in 2011, back when there were only five Fast & the Furious movies. Since winning his lone Super Bowl, Rodgers has gone 0-4 in the conference championship.
Between Rodgers’ lack of success on the big stage the last decade, his division, and his age, it’s hard to have Super Bowl expectations for him and his new team. But his recent back-to-back MVPs with Hackett give us hope that he will at least be better than 2022 Russ. With all that said, we’ll predict an 11-6 record with a spirited loss in the Divisional Round. But god dammit we’d love for that Ayuhasca-fueled legend to prove us wrong and get the Peyton Manning treatment before he leaves the league for good.

The College Football Schedule 2023
The 2023 college football schedule features several exciting matchups with major repercussions. These games pit historical rivals or feature top-ranked teams whose contest could shape its narrative. Nick Saban's Georgia Bulldogs must avenge last season's 42-7 defeat that tilted the head-to-head record against them and restore equilibrium between teams in Tennessee and Georgia. Alabama-Georgia On Wednesday, major college football networks released game times and gave fans one step closer to learning when some of the sport's marquee games will take place. Georgia fans can look forward to an action-packed 2023 schedule that features trips to Alabama and Texas as well as home matchups against Ole Miss and Mississippi State. Georgia and Alabama will meet for the first time since Alabama visited Williams-Brice Stadium in 2015 for their last meeting, making this matchup all the more consequential for Georgia fans. Expected SEC MVP Joe Milton is expected to lead his squad during 2023 so this matchup could prove pivotal in shaping Georgia's fate this season. Nick Saban of Alabama boasts an outstanding win percentage (.878) over 17 seasons as head coach at his school and hopes to return to the College Football Playoff for a third consecutive year, but will need his team to navigate a challenging conference slate first. Ole Miss is Georgia's other key non-conference test in terms of non-conference matchups, and this matchup should provide an indicator of its effectiveness as Kirby Smart steps into Lane Kiffin's shoes as Georgia coach. Furthermore, it will serve as an effective barometer of progress made on defense over the past year after giving up more points than any SEC opponent last season. Texas-Kansas Last season, the Kansas Jayhawks were one of college football's pleasant surprises. Led by quarterback Jalon Daniels and an excellent defense, their program made strides in the second half to finish at 6-7. 2023 is looking promising as they return to Big 12 play with a strong schedule that includes home matches against Texas and Iowa State. The Longhorns' final season in the Big 12 conference has been scheduled, featuring six home games, five road games and their annual match-up against Oklahoma at the Cotton Bowl. Texas will play Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech at home while also traveling to Kansas and Kansas State away. BYU and Houston join UT as new Big 12 members completing UT's schedule for 2016. 2016 college football standings will open their season by hosting Rice on Sept. 2 before traveling to Alabama and Tuscaloosa on Sept. 9 before wrapping up non-conference play in Austin against Wyoming on Sept. 11. Ohio State-Penn State With college football season being less than 100 days away, fans are finally taking one step closer to seeing when and how to watch their teams. Major television networks on Wednesday will unveil their schedule selections, giving fans a look into what awaits for 2023 season. The Big Ten released its conference schedule Wednesday, and Penn State-Penn State earned top billing as the event of the week. Greg McElroy believes Penn State has an edge this year thanks to having quarterback Drew Allar back. Iowa can make things interesting, though, thanks to running back Nicholas Singleton returning from injury and an exciting offensive team led by newcomer Cade McNamara. Iowa could pose a formidable test for Ohio State's defense at Kinnick Stadium and this game may take on an unpredictable tone as fans anticipate a wild encounter between rival teams. Ohio State should be able to regain momentum against Indiana at home and win convincingly - their offense ranked among the worst nationally last season! That game should make for exciting viewing as Indiana has one of the worst offensive units. Notre Dame-Wake Forest If you're on the hunt for college football tickets 2023, this matchup between Wake Forest Demon Deacons and Notre Dame Fighting Irish should not be missed. Both teams possess amazing talent that make this contest exciting to watch. Last time these teams faced each other it was an exciting contest; Notre Dame managed to overcome early struggles and come away victorious by a final score of 90-74. Notre Dame experienced shooting difficulties of their own; hitting only 38% from the field and 19% from 3-point range while losing three key players due to injuries. While Notre Dame may have lost their playoff hopes with that loss, they still have an opportunity to make a strong run in 2019. Their next matchups include home matches against Boston College and a trip to Syracuse's Carrier Dome where their Deacons have never managed to take a win there - they must start strong if they hope for any chance at an upset victory there. Wake Forest's defense has been one of the nation's strongest this season. They've held opponents to less than one point per game while their pass rushers have been phenomenal. Wake Forest's secondary has also performed admirably with Duke Ejiofor and Cormac Ryan providing outstanding coverage respectively.

SlamBall Reveals Team Names, Logos, Rosters and Coaches for Exciting 2023 Relaunch Season
Tumblr media
SlamBall, the fast-paced, gravity-defying sport that combines elements of basketball, football, hockey and trampolines, today revealed its eight team names, logos, coaches and seven-man rosters for the League’s relaunch. The mix of standout athletes with basketball, football and track backgrounds will be led by veteran coaching staffs in SlamBall League: Series 6, opening on ESPN July 21 at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
Three legacy teams – the Mob, Rumble and Slashers – will be joined by five newcomers: the Buzzsaw, Gryphons, Lava, Ozone and Wrath. Each squad is helmed by a former SlamBall player or coach, including Ken Carter, the inspiration for the acclaimed film Coach Carter, who is back with the Rumble, the team that he led to a championship in the initial 2002 SlamBall campaign.
Players were assigned to teams via a draft held earlier this month. With the first overall pick, the Lava selected former Florida A&M basketball standout Bryce Morange (Tampa, FL), who SlamBall co-founder Mason Gordon said, “might be the most complete player we’ve seen in the sport.” With the seventh pick in Round 1, Ozone head coach and SlamBall legend Trevor Anderson called the name of his son, Bryan Bell-Anderson (Sarasota, FL), who previously played defensive back at Columbia University.
“When we look at Bryce and Bryan, they represent high level basketball talent and high caliber football talent coming together in SlamBall, where basketball and football cultures collide,” said Gordon. “We were incredibly gratified to see that on draft night.”
For complete player and coach bios and team logos visit http://www.slamballleague.com.
Of the 56 players drafted, 68% have basketball backgrounds, while 16% played football, 9% were on track and field squads, and 7% participated in multiple sports . The average age of the players is 26.9 years. The tallest SlamBall player is the Ozone’s 6’9” Vincent Boumann (Newberg, OR), a former Western Oregon basketball player, while conversely the Slashers’ Tony Crosby II, a former track star at Grand Canyon University and international slam dunk champion(Inglewood, CA), stands at 5’6”.
“The players selected to compete in SlamBall are a cross-section of the best athletes in basketball, football, track and more,” added Gordon. “They possess the wide variety of abilities needed to excel in our unique mix of several sports that highlights their versatility, speed, strength and skills.”
The logos and color schemes were designed by Gameplan Creative, the Chicago-based branding team that has been instrumental in creating designs for a host of teams, leagues and organizations, including the WNBA and eight of its teams and the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Gameplan also created the league logo, unveiled last week.
“The team names and logos are a nod to our history, with the Mob, Rumble and Slashers mirroring the original franchises, and also a reflection of the sport’s exciting future,” added Gordon.
SlamBall recently announced an exclusive, two-year national broadcast partnership with ESPN for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. The partnership begins on Opening Night, as SlamBall relaunches on ESPN live from Las Vegas on July 21 from 7-9 p.m. EDT. ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN+ will combine to air more than 30 hours of live SlamBall programming across five weekends, culminating August 17-19 with the SlamBall Playoffs and SlamBall Championship Game. All games will be played at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas, with ticket sales beginning in late June.

Fnatic capture back-to-back world titles with VCT Masters Tokyo victory
Tumblr media
Fnatic won the VALORANT Champions Tour Masters Tokyo and became the first team to hold back-to-back international championships after defeating Evil Geniuses 3-0 on June 25. With the prize in hand, the European squad firmly establishes their position as the best in pro-VALORANT in 2023—and there is no contest. The best-of-five began on Lotus, a map Fnatic had no problems on in their previous match against EG. They weren’t able to match that 10-2 dominant start this time around, heading into the half tied 6-6, but were others head and shoulders above EG. Conceding just two rounds in the second half, Fnatic wiped out the American representatives 13-8 in what was looking like a short Championship Sunday. Split started close, but Fnatic pulled out a confident defense off of Emir “Alfajer” Beder’s Cypher to lead by four rounds. His hold on the A site was nigh impregnable, using his Camera to peek over smokes and walls, and hiding in corners for easy information and kills. As the map went on, both teams smartly used timeouts to break their opponent’s streaks, with nothing separating the two at 11-11. That was, until Nikita “Derke” Sirmitev exploded onto the B site in round 23, getting four kills to earn Fnatic a match point. https://twitter.com/ValorantEsports/status/1672855385122963456 Two fast kills enabled the bomb plant before a double kill with his Showstopper in the post ensured they wouldn’t need another opportunity to tie up the map. Up 2-0 in the series, Fnatic was showing the strength of the double map ban earned from the upper bracket and threatened an early finals sweep. All Fnatic had to do was deny EG a chance to get back in the game, much like they did against LOUD at the LOCK//IN grand finals. With their backs to the wall, the surprise packet in Tokyo pulled out a desperate Reyna and Chamber combo, with the agents barely touched across the event ahead of their do-or-die on Bind. EG’s composition seemed to take Fnatic off guard, with Kelden “Boostio” Pupello on the Reyna and Max “Demon1” Mazanov on the Chamber finding lots of value from their abilities and weaponry early on. EG dictated the pace of bind, up 8-4 at the half, then quickly extending their lead after winning the second pistol. Up 12-7, it seemed like a formality that Ascent would be needed, but Fnatic was unfazed. The EMEA champs fought right back to take it to overtime, and two quick rounds led to Fnatic’s second title of 2023. Their dynasty at the top of VALORANT was hinted at throughout the event, but with this win, it’s official—the super team formed in the off-season is now well and truly out in front. https://twitter.com/ValorantEsports/status/1672875391655219201 On stage, the champions spoke in depth about the struggles of the series and just what it took for the squad to turn their fate around and secure their second title. “It was kind of rough for us at the start of Bind, but we realized it was just like LOUD on Icebox in the last finals,” said Timofey “Chronicle” Khromov. “We just had to focus on the comeback, focus on our attack side, and it went just as we expected. I’m happy we stayed focused.” It wasn’t just focus, because when asked about the EMEA-versus-NA final, Leo Jannesson just stated the hard truth no one was ready to hear. “ just practice harder than NA,” Leo said on stage. “We got the extra spot for our region and it’ll show at Champions.” With this win, Fnatic earned another spot for EMEA at VCT Champions, with two teams making it out of the Last Chance Qualifier starting on July 19. Quick Strikes Down Highlanders
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bearden 6 at Gatlinburg-Pittman 2
Monday, May 1, 2023 6pm
GATLINBURG—Bearden had to work a bit harder than expected to shake off a stubborn Gatlinburg-Pittman 6-2 Monday on a rare trip to the Smokies.
The first period saw a spirited and swarming Highlander squad hold their own against the top-ranked Bulldogs for twenty-five minutes, before Lucas Nordin, Daniel Kinney, and Hayden Tate all struck within a two-minute span to suddenly take a 3-0 lead to halftime.
Kinney’s goal was extra special, as the sophomore midfielder celebrated his birthday with his first varsity goal, in addition to a scintillating slide tackle steal resulting in an assist on fellow sophomore Lucas Ford’s emphatic second-half blast.
Hustling midfielders Chandler Donohoe and Jack Tirgrath, plus Captain Harrison Schwall all had assists, while Hamid Djouadi and Omar Hewezi had second half goals to aid the victory.
Steadfast junior defender Shepard McMurray showcased his skills in the second half with a nice defensive header, a crucial settle and clear inside the eighteen, and two timely clears from the backfield.
Bearden dominated possession throughout, and outshot G-P 34-9 (19-5 on goal) in securing the victory, but still surrendered two goals late in the game for the first time this season. The Bulldog Defense is still on track, however, to set the season record for fewest goals allowed—they have given up a stingy 10 on the year, versus 16 by the 2016 State Championship team.
Goals: LUCAS NORDIN (31’ assist-Hamid Djouadi); DANIEL KINNEY (32’ Hayden Tate); HAYDEN TATE (33’ Jack Tirgrath); HAMID DJOUADI (65’ Harrison Schwall); G-P (66’); LUCAS FORD (72’ Daniel Kinney); G-P (77’); OMAR HEWEZI (77’ Chandler Donohoe).
Shots/Shots-on-goal: BHS 34/19 G-P 9/5. Corners: BHS 7 G-P 1. Fouls: BHS 3 G-P 3. Cards: none. Conditions: artificial turf FB field, windy, cloudy, 55 degrees. Attendance: 177.
Outside the box...the game was officiated Monday by a two-man crew...a big ‘Woof!’ to Brian Ford and his Elastic Pictures for letting me hitch a ride to the ‘highlands’ for Monday’s game--Brian and his able assistant Connor do a magnificent job video recording all the Bulldog games...upon further review, Hamid Djouadi has been credited with the assist on Bearden’s second goal back on April 13 at Hardin Valley. This now gives the senior midfielder 5 assists on the season...Woof!

Vandals prepare for National Championship Game vs. Texas Longhorns
The University of Idaho Vandals are back in the BCS Championship Game for the third straight season and are looking for back-to-back titles as they will faceoff against the University of Texas Longhorns (12-0. 9-0).
The Vandals are coming off of two or their closest games of the season, and have some turned the starting quarterback duties back over to Dustin Coleman, who spent much of the middle portion of the season as the backup to Akim Mills.
Despite over 2,000 yards and 30 touchdowns on the season, Dylan Thigpen did not win his second consecutive Heisman Trophy.
There is a chip on the shoulders of the Vandals coming into this game, and they will need to play with that edge if they are going to take out a loaded Longhorns squad.
Texas has 7 wins over teams with a winning record, Idaho has 6 such victories.
The Longhorns are the top scoring and top offense by yardage team in the country. That offense is paired with the 10th overall defense in FBS competition.
Idaho brings in the 4th highest scoring offense and the #2 overall defense in the nation.
Texas is loaded with talent and experience all over the field. They start Senior Quarterback, Shane Buechele, and he is protected by a massive offensive line that is arguably the best in the country. The Longhorns add to that the best group of wide receivers in the FBS.
Idaho will have to fight to keep up with the Longhorns, and not let a bad drive or moment rattle their emotions during this contest.
Coach Idaho Coach spoke about the game during his weekly radio show.
"This is another opportunity for our guys to bring home a trophy for our university, our students, alumni and fans. This isn't about anybody else, but us, and when I say us, I mean all those people I mentioned. They are a part of this team and our guys feel the same way. We know we don't have the resources that Texas has, but we have a community that can collectively can drive our football team to the top one in the country.
In preparation for this game, we are just getting back to fundamental football, and trying to play fast. I think it is easy to over coach in this situation. We are trying to just give our guys the tools to go out and have fun, and fly around. We want to be aggressive and physical. Take the game to the opponent.
We are excited for the opportunity to defend our championship from last year, and we certainly aren't going to go down lightly, this group is driven and determined as hell. I can't wait for the game."
ESPN Analyst Kirk Herbstreit has picked Idaho to repeat as National Champions. This columnist actually disagrees with Kirk. I think that the Longhorns are simply more talented than this Vandals squad.
Prediction:
Texas: 34
Vandals: 21

Relief at last for nervy North End
The seven game without a win nightmare came to an end at Deepdale as North End overcame Coventry City in what turned out to be a nervy affair in the last ten minutes. It should never really have got to that as North End led 3-1 going into the last ten minutes against a Sky Blues side who looked low on confidence and defensively vulnerable. The visitors took the lead through a disputed goal with North End looking for offside but the lead didn`t last long as Holmes and then Browne (penalty) took North End into the break 2-1 up. Coventry started well after the interval but when Osmajic nodded home a beautiful Millar cross it looked all over. With les than ten minutes left Wright pulled one back for the vistors to facilitate a few nervous groans in the stands. No problem though as North End held on for a fully deserved victory and some relief after the last few weeks.
Ryan Lowe made three changes from the side beaten at Hull last week with Keane, Cunningham and Ledson making way for Best, Frokjaer and Osmajic. North End started the game well on top and always looked the side more likely to score. A Browne shot was fumbled by a nervous Wilson in the Coventry goal but as is usual in these cases just on the half hour mark the vistors took the lead. A good shot was well saved by Woodman but it fell to Wright who looked offside when the initial shot was struck. Wright knocked the rebound home and completely against the run of play Coventry were in the lead. It only lasted for a few minutes though as Holmes calmly fired home to put North End level. Osmajic was then impeded when clean through and the penalty from man of the match Alan Browne was converted. It was no more than North End deserved and they went in at the break with their tails up.
No changes for North End at the break as Coventry came out to give it a go and North End needed to be at their best. Plenty of possession for the visitors but no real scares as North End started to regain control again. Evans was introduced for Frokjaer and with twenty minutes to go Osmajic met a superb cross from the left by Millar and nodded home to make it 3-1. Surely it was game over but with about eight minutes left another shot well saved from Woodman dropped to Wright and he scored his second goal of the afternoon. It looked like it might be twitchy bum time and the additional six minutes did nothing to calm the North End fans nerves. Thankfully we comfortably held out for a confidence boosting win and with a better display than of late to boot.
So relief for North End as we move back up the table into sixth place ahead of the huge game at Ewood Park next Friday evening. The winning run and losing run has made it difficult to judge where North End really are at the moment but this squad is better than last term and with the variability in the Championship results my best guess at this stage is that North End should be a top ten team this season. Being sixth a third of the way through the season is a good start and if you extrapolate North Ends points we would end up with 76 points which should make the play off. Anyway one game at a time and after this much needed victory its of to Blackburn next Friday under the TV Cameras for the first of only two local derbies this season. Now that would be a sweet one to win.

Princeton: 2022-23 Ivy Men's Basketball Champions
Tumblr media
PRINCETON – Four years ago, in a version of planes, trains and automobiles that already has entered Princeton basketball lore, assistant coach Brett MacConnell discovered an obscure prospect in Newcastle, England.
That leap of faith paid off spectacularly Sunday.
The prospect, Tosan Evbuomwan, led the Tigers to the Ivy League Tournament title with a hardwood masterpiece in a 74-65 victory over Yale. Running the offense, scoring and defending the Bulldogs' top guard, the senior forward dominated as the Tigers earned their 26th NCAA Tournament berth and first since 2017.
"This means the world," Evbuomwan said. "Princeton is my home. Newcastle is my second home at this point."
He tallied 21 points, five rebounds and four assists, passing Princeton coach Mitch Henderson on the Tigers' all-time assist list. Not bad for a 6-foot-8 power forward.
"This has been a challenge with Tosan for three years, to get him to impose his physical will on the game," Henderson said. "And I thought we took strength from that this weekend. We’ll never have anyone here for a very long time who’s that good of a passer.”
On the defensive end, Evbuomwan limited Yale’s explosive sophomore John Poulakidis to 7 points on 2-of-6 shooting.
"Pretty inspiring," Princeton guard Matt Allocco said. "Everyone knows offensively Tosan is special, but today in particular I thought he was unbelievable. He’s the best player in this league on both ends. He was terrific today, willed us, carried us there.”
As a result Princeton (21-8) is going dancing for the second time under Henderson. The Tigers shared the Ivy’s regular-season crown with Yale (21-8) but got swept by the Bulldogs home and away – and also lost to them in last year’s Ivy Tourney final as well.
This was different as nearly 5,000 fans packed Jadwin Gym, making the most of Princeton’s first turn as the host of this four-team event. The Ivy League added a tournament in 2017, becoming the last Division 1 conference to do so. That year, Princeton prevailed at the Palestra and went on to push Notre Dame to the brink in the Big Dance’s opening round, falling when Devin Cannady’s 3-pointer missed the mark at the buzzer.
Getting back there has been a mission for Henderson, who played in three NCAA Tournaments as a Princeton guard from 1996-98.
“I think about it every day walking into the gym and looking at the banners…especially as an alum," Henderson said. “It’s one of the coolest things in sports.”
After the final buzzer Sunday he encountered John Thompson III, who starred at guard at Princeton before leading the Tigers to two NCAA Tournaments as a head coach. Thompson is widely associated with Georgetown, which he coached to a Final Four in 2007, but he's a Princeton man through and through.
“All is right with the world," Thompson told him.
This Tigers team, a likely No. 14 seed, has the firepower to cause trouble for some high-major. It starts with Evbuomwan, a point forward who scored 21 in Saturday’s semifinal win over Penn and was the runaway choice for tournament MVP. But there are sharpshooters too in guards Ryan Langborg (14 points vs. Yale), Allocco (15 points, 7 rebounds) and a rising-star freshman in forward Caden Pierce (12 points, 10 rebounds). Princeton's last March Madness win came in 1998, Henderson's senior year. The Tigers also stunned UCLA in an instant classic in 1996, the final triumph for legendary coach Pete Carril.
Carril died in August at age 92.
“I’ve thought about him a lot," Henderson said. "So much of what I say is him."
He said Carril would particularly have enjoyed how this Princeton squad got better as the season went on. Peaking late was a Carril specialty.
"A lot of this is honoring him," Henderson said. "He’d be very proud."
