Being familiar with the Reflectionless Useless Eyes trope, I assumed the current state of Carly’s eyes meant that she was blind at that moment. (I am also aware it could have been a callback to her lifeless eyes when she died from her fall after her duel against Divine.)
What made that thought oh so painfully sad was that putting her glasses back on her wouldn’t have helped her see again. That would mean her smile was more due to the comfortably familiar weight of her glasses, an important piece of her identity as Carly Nagisa/Carmine, than an improved eyesight.
Even in her final moments, she couldn’t see the face of her beloved. 😭😭😭

Comparing Mey-Rin with Carly Carmine/Nagisa
After revisiting Yugioh 5Ds, I realised my fav girl shares similarities with the Phantomhive maid.
~
They are both ditzy and klutzy girls with big round glasses where you can barely see their eyes.
They’re both very dedicated to their jobs, (a journalist for Carly and a maid for Mey-Rin) but are both still very caring and understanding.
They’re both in love with tall and more stoic men who they work alongside with. (The difference being that Jack actually confessed he’s in love with Carly as well)
And now we get to the grim stuff. They both end up having a dark side to them, except Carly just inherited darkness while Mey-Rin used to be a cold assassin. (Also they don’t wear their glasses)
But of course, both were healed by the kindness and love of another person and eventually found love again.
Sorry, couldn’t find a good screenshot for Mey-Rin.

So in result: These girls are pretty much my kind of sweet/sour girls and should’ve gotten more appreciation that they totally deserved. :)
