Thinking about Ushijima telling Kageyama that Shiratorizawa doesn't need a setter like him and then having Kageyama set for him in no less than 3 teams as of 2022.
I wouldn't be surprised if Kageyama ended up being Ushijima's favourite setter ever.

Workplace romance
word count; 941 – f!reader, fluff
Tumblr media
“The Schweiden Adlers ball is next weekend, I assume you know that,” you mumble to start off, already used to how Kageyama’s knee bounces repeatedly in what you could only assume was restlessness. “I just need to know who you will bring as a date. There will be paparazzi and I just want to make sure I have everything under control.” As you were speaking, you didn’t really look up at the man, simultaneously finishing off the notes from your previous meeting with Hoshiumi.
“A date?” Kageyama repeated back to you and you chuckled softly at his confusion, sparing him a glance.
You’re one of Schweiden Adlers’ PR managers, recently tasked with handling the three younger members, Ushijima Wakatoshi, Hoshiumi Korai and Kageyama Tobio. They are all pretty sweet and you thanked the heavens every day that you didn’t end up as PR manager for the MSBY Black Jackals. “Yes, you get a plus one. You could also bring your mom or sister, that’s always good for your image. Alternatively, there’s no problem with going alone. Although that might call forth a different genre of headlines…” you rambled, doing your job and analysing the different options without even noticing how the young man was twiddling his thumbs in his lap nervously.
Kageyama was the one you spoke with the most from the team, as he was also the newest to this business. While the two of you would talk casually outside the four walls of your borrowed office all the time, you loved your job and preferred to stay stressed and professional while doing meetings. “But I could bring a date too? Someone I like?” he asked. For some annoying reason, his words made you stop writing and an icky feeling crept into your stomach.
“Of course, I just need to know who so that I can take the necessary precautions…” you answered, biting the inside of your cheek as if to force yourself to speak.
“Will you go with me?” he asked. Finally, ran through his mind as your eyes finally stilled where he could see them, staring right into his. Kageyama smiled nervously, hoping you would answer any second now. It’s a bit like the smile you finally coaxed out of him for those commercial photos. Oddly charming.
“You want to go with me?” you asked, wondering if you heard him correctly and straightening up in your seat. Hopefully, he couldn’t see your bright red ears.
“Yes,” he answered simply. No room for misunderstanding there, you suppose.
“That’s…” you couldn’t help the giddy chuckle you left in the air as you looked back down at all your messy notes. “Very unexpected.”
“Why? I thought I made it obvious that I like you,” he said, blunt as ever. Tobio felt like this should not be a surprise at all, as he made an effort to talk to you every time he saw you and even got you a box of milk on the days he knew you would be there in advance. Was his affection not obvious?
You’re full-on grinning like a madman now, burying your face in your hands to hide the blush on your cheeks. “I would love to go with you.” you finally declared, not responding to his blunt confession because you weren’t quite sure how to yet. “But I need to talk to some of our bosses and make sure it’s approved first. We wouldn’t want any scandals to plague your name,” you said, removing your hands from your face as you went halfway into work mode again. You flipped to a new page in your notebook and wrote down what information you needed. The smile was still stuck on your face and Tobio was happy to see it.
“Okay.” he agreed. There was still a sense of childish innocence to him that you really liked. “But I don’t want to go with anyone else,” he added as if that was just stuck in his mind.
“You should go back to practice, Tobio,” you said, using your softest voice to make sure he knew you weren’t trying to be dismissive. “If you stop by before you leave today, I will let you know how it’s looking after making some calls,” you told him, smiling as he got up.
“I will see you soon, then.” He bowed, about to leave when you spoke again.
“Tobio!” you called, pursing your lips and considering your next words before they just spilt from your lips. “I like you too.”
Kageyama walked back to practice with a happy smile, making Hoshiumi frown at him as if it was the creepiest thing he had ever seen. Meanwhile, you were in your office kicking your feet and punching the air in joy before taking a deep breath to start making those calls without giggling.
He stopped by after practice, like he promised, knocking on the door and walking in with a hopeful spark in his eyes. You told him how this might play out so he would be prepared for any potential consequences, but could still happily inform him that you would be going with him to the event.
And boy were your assumptions right. The headlines questioning whether or not this was appropriate were simply unavoidable. However, it only took one press conference to quiet it down.
“She’s very sweet, I really like her. It would make me sad if we could not be together just because she also works with keeping me and my teammates out of trouble,” he said softly, making the reporters coo and the headlines turn from Volleyball manager: Inappropriate moneygrabber to Living our fantasies: Kageyama’s workplace romance.

hola liv, hope you’re doing well, just thought about samu manspreading and maintaining eye contact with u with a glass of scotch or whiskey in his hand opposite u with an unbuttoned white shirt, and i thought you would appreciate this thought
i love u but also i hate u a bit just fyi <33
Tumblr media
neither you nor osamu particularly want to be at the stuffy v-league event, but you have to be there as part of the PR team for the Schweiden Adlers, and osamu simply grew tired of listening to his brother begging him to attend and had eventually agreed after three FULL days of atsumu cycling through every method of persuasion he knew to wear his brother down.
you're confused the first time you spot him from across the room: he's tall, broad, and handsome--though certainly not the only man in the room that evening who meets that description--but what's most shocking is that miya atsumu has dyed his hair.
you stare at the setter rather intently from afar for a good few moments before he notices your gaze, just after popping a small hors d'oeuvre into his mouth. he looks a little taken aback to be on the receiving end of such an intense stare, but seems to put the pieces together faster than you do. with his cheeks full of canape and eyes wide, he points up at himself with the hand not holding his drink, then he points to a figure a few metres away (a bleached blonde figure that seems very familiar even though you can only see his back), then back to himself.
you watch as he chews and then swallows.
brother.
you read the word formed by his lips.
oh... that makes sense.
you're a little embarrassed at having been caught staring, so you quickly skitter away--missing the little smile curling up at NOT miya atsumu's mouth.
but for whatever reason, be it fate or cosmic punishment, you just can't seem to avoid him.
it's a big party--there's got to be at least two or three hundred people in attendance--and yet around every corner, at every turn, you keep running into him. finally, you surrender yourself to your fate, slumping into a seat across from him in a quiet seating area set up in a corridor branching off from the main hall where the event is taking place.
there's no one around. it's quieter here. and frankly you're grateful for the opportunity to get off your feet--your high heels have been pinching your toes uncomfortably since the moment you'd left your apartment.
neither of you says anything as you sit down with a weary sigh.
you deliberate pretending he's not even there, but your manners get the better of you after a quiet moment of consideration. your eyes flicker up to the man seated a few paces away.
he's discarded his tie since you ran into him last; dark silk tails stick out from the breast pocket of his suit jacket that's just a little ill-fitting, like he borrowed it from someone whose body is similar but not quite the same build as him. his white dress-shirt has been unbuttoned at the collar too, revealing the base of his throat and the slightest glimpse of his chest. he has a glass of amber coloured liquid in a rocks glass held by the rim as it rests atop one of his knees, his thick thighs spread as he slouches back in his chair.
his eyes meet yours.
and that's when you realize you made two mistakes upon first sight of this man. the first was mistaking him for his brother, and the second was thinking that any man in the room you were seeking refuge from held a candle to how handsome he is.
he smiles. a subtle, unintimdating curl of his lips that only makes him look even more devastatingly attractive in the low light of the corridor.
"miya osamu," he introduces himself, and the first sound of his voice is enough to send heat rushing to your face. enough to make you squirm. like he knows what the mere sound of his voice is doing to you, his smile curves a little higher, his knees spread a little futher apart. "seems like you and i've been skirtin' around each other all night."
"i'm sorry for staring earlier," you rush to explain something he'd asked no question about, your eyes fluttering down to your hands where they're fidgeting in your lap. your fingers twist together nervously atop the skirt of your fancy dress.
"ya thought i was my brother," osamu remarks lightheartedly, his tone understanding, "yer not the first. plus i'd have to be a bit foolish to be insulted for being mistaken for a professional athlete."
"still," you say quietly, a little less frenetic than your apology had been, "it was rude of me to stare."
he laughs--a deep, warm sound--and your eyes flicker up to meet his.
"well i'd really have to be a fool to have a problem with catchin' someone as pretty as you starin' at me, wouldn't i?"
your lips part in shock, scarcely able to process the words he's just spoken.
osamu doesn't wait for you to reply as he leans forward in his seat, shifting so his elbows rest atop his knees, his half-drained drink dangling from his fingertips. the low light catches in the facets of the polished glass.
"so, any chance of gettin' yer name now?" he asks you with a brow raised, and you feel goosebumps prickle along your skin as you peer into his deep grey eyes, "because ya keep runnin' off every time i've tried to ask tonight."

araw-araw
chapter one: mutualistic.
Tumblr media
author’s notes: this is a story i’ve had in the works for a long time now, and i really wanted to publish it as a long one shot but here we are.
masterlist.
Tumblr media
The news hits you the same way most of his words do.
It’s a gentle rumble, almost as if trying to rouse you from sleep even though you were wide awake.
“I’ve decided to play for the Schweiden Adlers,” Toshi says over lunch, and the straight tone of his delivery would’ve made you think he was talking about weather or homework due that day.
Now, you wish you were asleep.
The chopsticks fumble in your grip just enough to make you drop the udon noodles you were about to eat back into your bowl. Toshi raises an eyebrow at this, but you don’t let him ask when you say, “Really?”
He nods. “They’re the strongest team in Division 1 of the V-League.” he takes a sip from his drink. “I’m due to meet them for contract signing next week after final exams.”
“I see,” You set your chopsticks over your bowl, appetite momentarily lost. “Where will it be held?”
“They’re based in Tokyo.”
And this is the part where you’re supposed to be upset as it all clicks into place.
That he’s being recruited somewhere far away, that playing professionally would take up most of his time and that whatever the two of you had most likely wouldn’t work in the long-term.
But instead, you smile at him.
This should also be the part where you tearfully ask him how long he had been hiding these prospects, or what this meant for the two of you or if this was his way of breaking up.
But instead you say, “Congratulations, Toshi.”
“Thank you,” he says back.
And neither of you say much else for the rest of your meal.
Tumblr media
You’re not quite sure if the bond between you and your roommate was a product of the close proximity or because your personalities actually worked well together, but you tell Natsumi about your troubles regardles.
“He’s playing right after graduation?” She repeats, a critical furrow in her brow. You might as well have cursed your roommate’s name to filth with the way she was looking at you.
You’re both seated on your mattress on the bottom bunk, a plushie on each of your laps and hugged close to your chests. A half-empty bag of chips lays between the two of you along with a tray carrying mugs of what used to hold hot chocolate.
(Not the best combo, you know, but it was welcomed all the same.)
You nod, burying your chin into the softness of your stuffed cow (which, ironically, was a gift from Toshi; Tendou suggested the gift because the pun was too irresistible.)
“He already mentioned being scouted by V-League teams before, so it’s not a complete surprise to me.”
Natsumi wrinkles her nose and picks a chip off the bag. “Just not the part where he’d be playing in Tokyo.”
You nod again, tilting your head to muffle your groan into the plushie’s stuffing.
You knew he wouldn’t stay in Miyagi with the reputation he’s already built for himself in the volleyball community, so much so that you were pretty sure he might even make a name for himself abroad once he hit it off here.
Yet now, Tokyo already seemed so far away despite it only being a three-hour trip by train.
It reminds you of your monthly visits back home and how you were often too tired to mingle, much less spend actual quality time with your family.
The idea of Toshi going through the same thing (maybe even worse) makes a pit sink deep inside your stomach.
Natsumi lets you groan a little more before asking, “What are you gonna do now?”
There’s not really much you can do, if you had to be honest. At least, not anything that could change Toshi’s mind in any way. You lift your head up, hugging the plushie tighter.
“Study, that’s what.”
“Seriously?”
“Whether Toshi decides on Tokyo permanently or not, we would still have final exams coming up.”
“True, but-”
“Come on,” you put the toy down and move to get your feet off the bed and on the ground. “We still have to review Logarithmic Functions,”
With the topic pushed aside, you shift your attention to the material you have to study with Natsumi, along with briefly recalling helping Tendou and Semi with chemistry the day after tomorrow as well. The details were all in your planner, so you grab it from your desk and flip it to that week’s page.
Your roommate rolls her eyes but follows suit after you.  “Ugh, fine.”
You’re not sure if she meant that about the studying or about you changing the topic, but you’re glad for her complacency all the same.
(You also weren’t quite sure how long it would last, but that was a question for another time.)
Tumblr media
You pride yourself in how patient you were as a person.
You studied hard to get into the best high school in your prefecture and for the past three years have been busting your ass to make sure that all that hard work didn’t go to waste, then doing it all over again for the college entrance exams that took place just two months ago. You can handle children and their messes and tantrums, and you know how to deal with Natsumi’s penchant of ranting about anything that irked her (which was a lot of things), Tendou’s impromptu singing (which happened quite often) and even Goshiki’s hyperactivity (which you found excessive even for a freshman eager to prove himself to his senpais).
And you can handle how Ushijima Wakatoshi, no matter how much he says you matter to him, will always put volleyball first.
It was a no-brainer since you put your studies ahead of him, too- if he was the Volleyball Idiot then you were the Biology Nerd, hellbent on becoming a doctor as he is in playing the game professionally.
And if you already weren’t a patient person to begin with, your patience was supposed to stretch. Sometimes by inches. Other times by miles.
But it always, always adjusted to Toshi, and sometimes you have to think back to figure out how many it had to do so.
How many canceled dates due to exhaustion? How many days of not seeing him at all because he was training over the weekends? How many missed calls and unread messages before you can say enough was enough?
You had to fight a chuckle.
The answer increased every time you asked the question and it only did so because really?
Who the hell were you to complain when you weren’t completely innocent either?
The last person you dated scowled at how much you studied and how little time you had for them. They rolled their eyes at the idea of library dates and showed annoyance at how you’d only go to cafes to study and not enjoy the food or drinks or the company they offered.
It only took two months before they broke up with you.
They said it was just a mismatch, but you knew better.
They just didn’t understand how much was riding on your education. How your family was counting on you to graduate. How badly you wanted to help other people by pursuing medicine.
So now you were the one who did the understanding.
You gave Toshi his space when he had a game coming up, and kept track of his schedule on your planner so you knew when not to bother him. You came to his games and joined him on the bleachers if he was observing other matches, not really fully understanding but paying attention all the same. Sometimes you even studied on the volleyball gym bleachers, which Coach Washijo only allowed since studying was a quiet task for you and Toshi never lost focus whenever you were around.
And in turn, he accompanied you to the library and to the various cafes and restaurants you frequented to study the weeks leading up to the Center Test. He borrowed books for you from the public library if you holed up in your dorm and made sure you took adequate breaks between grind sessions despite not knowing a thing about the subject material you were pouring over.
And everyday without fail, he would walk you to and from your classroom and dorm, then remind you to sleep at a reasonable hour by wishing you goodnight before turning in himself.
In Biology last semester, you talked about symbiosis - a relationship between two species where at least one benefits from the bond.
While you were no parasite sucking the life out of your last partner, you knew that they didn’t really benefit from your relationship, either.
Neither of you did, really.
(That’s commensalism, you recalled, where one party benefits while the other is generally unaffected. Or indifferent.)
So maybe now you were also driven to make sure what you had with Toshi was mutualistic. That you both got something out of whatever this was between you and that neither of you ended up wasting your time on the other.
Toshi had enough on his plate already, and you had no right to add to the many stressors he had in his life.
You watch him from across the lunch table, from the chopsticks that he held in his left hand to the slopes of his broad shoulders.
They must be carrying a lot.
Being captain of his team. The need to sharpen his own skills even after their season had passed. Maintaining a good academic performance. His family’s expectations of him.
It’s here that you realize that Toshi had called your name.
Twice or thrice now, actually.
You blink a few times before shaking your head. “Sorry, I must’ve spaced out.”
He looks at you for a moment. “Are you alright?”
You nod. “Yeah. Just a little sleepy, I guess.”
Not a complete lie, but Toshi bought it all the same. “Did you sleep late again?”
A guilty smile creeps up to your lips. “Yeah, I wanted to get ahead on the last chapters of calculus.” Which was true, by the way, and boy, did the Limit Theorems take a lot out of you.
Toshi frowns, the touch of a downward slope of the corners of his mouth. “You really should be sleeping earlier.”
“Can you blame me?”
His mouth flattens as he nods in agreement. “I suppose I can’t.”
Tumblr media
Later that day, in the ten minute break between your first and second afternoon classes, you see Ushijima at the door of your classroom.
“Toshi?” You get up from your seat and walk over to him. “Did you need something?”
Maybe he had to speak to Semi? He was your classmate, after all.
Before you could ask, he hands you a drink. “For you. In case you still feel drowsy.”
You blink a few times before taking it.
If you remember correctly, the only times Ushijima ever stopped by the vending machines was for water or a sports drink or some green tea if he felt like it.
Never anything else.
But then again he’s probably been around you long enough to know your usuals as well.
So you smile, looking around to make sure no one was paying attention to the two of you. “Thank you, Toshi.”
Much to your relief, your classmates kept to themselves, except maybe Semi who lazily watched your exchange.
(You guess that maybe Toshi only ever truly got undivided attention when he was on the court.)
Then, quick as you can, you kiss him on the cheek.
If Toshi blushed at that, you don’t see it. You do, however, hear the catch in his breath when your lips pressed into his cheek, and smiled wider as you pulled away.
“You’re welcome.” You decide not to comment on his reddening ears as he clears his throat. “I’ll be off now. I’ll see you later.”
“Bye!” you chirp back.
When you turn around, you're met with Semi’s shocked face.
You do nothing but flash him a peace sign, open your drink and take a sip.
(And as cliche as it sounded, the drink you’ve had countless times before tasted just the slightest bit better.)
Tumblr media
One of the perks that came with dating Ushijima was that the rest of the Volleyball Club diffused you into their friend group, no questions asked.
The team sometimes invited you to sit at their table if they happened to eat together and you often shared amused looks with Ohira when everyone’s antics got too rowdy. Meanwhile, the underclassmen would always greet you when you bumped into them on campus and a few of them (namely Shirabu) would ask for copies of your old notes if not actual help for their own studying.
Out of everyone on the team, however, you find yourself spending the most time with Semi and Tendou.
With Semi it was like he was always in your orbit; you were in the same class as him, often sneaking glances at each other whenever a teacher announced the next exam or started a particularly difficult topic, sometimes even sharing earbuds during study periods so he could recommend you some new songs to listen to. He was also in the same band as Natsumi and her girlfriend, so you knew firsthand how talented he was and how well he synergized with his bandmates.
(Semi was also the occasional privy into your interactions with Toshi, but no one else had to know that.)
With Tendou, though, the best way you can describe how he became part of your life is diffusion, his presence slipping in between cracks without you even noticing; a nudge of the elbow here, an over-the-shoulder lean there.
He once called you Doc after finding out about your plans for the future and the name stuck with everyone on the team, much to your amusement.
You also cracked up at enough of his jokes for him to assume you shared the same sense of humor and things went from there as the redhead climbed up the concentration gradient with genuine questions about your life and how you were.
And ions always knew when there was an area of low concentration.
“Did something happen with you and Wakatoshi-kun?”
He wasn’t called the Guess Monster for nothing, you suppose.
Semi raises an eyebrow at this, clearly just as curious, but stays silent.
You sigh, then resign to at least tell them the basics.
“Toshi’s leaving for Tokyo right after exams. I think you already know that part.” They nod. Well, more like Semi nods while Tendou just blinks back.
You swallow, if only to prevent a lump in your throat from forming. “I’m just not quite sure what that means for us, you know?”
Semi gives you a small frown. “You don’t think you two can handle a long-distance relationship?”
“It’s not that,” Your shoulders rise and fall as you sigh. “Well, not just that, you know? Maybe distance will be a problem, maybe it won’t, but it’s still there. And then there’s the problem with time and-” You bite back the word volleyball with a small cough. “-and priorities.” You say instead before clearing your throat.
“Toshi already has a clear future in mind for himself and I’m just not quite sure where I fit in all of it, you know?”
Tendou just wrinkles his nose. “You know you can just tell him, right?” He leans back in his chair. “Wakatoshi-kun’s a beast on the court but he’s completely inept anywhere else. You of all people would know that.”
“I don’t think there’s much to tell him.”
“Toshi, I’m upset about you leaving. Toshi, I've been crying myself to sleep for the past few nights. Toshi, I’m sad, please hug me .”
You don’t take offense to the (albeit, well-done) imitation of your voice but you scowl nonetheless. “Only one of those is accurate.”
The redhead raises a single, thin brow.
You sigh. “Okay fine, two.” Then you shake your head. “It’s not as easy as you make it sound, you know.”
“But it can be!”
This brings a sharp hiss from the librarian, making Tendou duck his head onto the table and behind the protection of his chemistry textbook.
He lifts his chin just enough so his eyes peep over the cover. “I don’t get it, Doc,” he says, this time much softer. “You won’t be able to know his feelings if you don’t ask him yourself.”
Not even the nickname was enough to ease the heaviness in your gut.
“Maybe I don’t need to know how he feels about it and just,” you gesture with your hands, not quite finding the words.
“Settle?” Semi offered.
“Yeah.” Both of your friends frown at this but you ignore it. “Just not say anything at all and settle with whatever’s there. It’ll be easier on the both of us, I think.”
Even with half his face hidden, you can spot Tendou’s frown deepening. “That would say more about Wakatoshi-kun than it does about you, to be honest.”
“Well I’m the only one who has to adjust to anything, so what would it say about me?”
“Just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen to be honest,” Semi says.
“Or you made peace with the idea that you're more serious about him way more than he is about you.” Tendou finishes. “Which isn’t true, by the way,”
You weren’t quite sure what to say about that.
“We should proceed to the next lesson.” you swallow, glancing at them but not really looking.  “Do you guys still remember how to do stoichiometry?” quick ew
Semi all but groans at this, then flips through his notebook to the first few pages.
Tendou narrows his eyes at you, but you ignore him in favor of helping Semi relearn the entire first semester’s worth of chemistry in the next hour.
Tumblr media
As a child, you learned to never ask for more than what’s already given to you.
You always waited to be offered seconds at the table and never let your gaze linger on anything in the stores when you went out with your family so you didn’t give them any ideas.
And even on the rare occasions that you do let your parents let you get things, like a toy or an article of clothing, you always went for the least expensive option, thinking it would trouble them the least.
Even if what you got wasn’t what you really wanted.
It was later when you realized that you did this less out of thrift and more out of the need to not burden anyone. To make yourself as easy to look after as possible.
What you have is enough, you would reason. Asking for anything more would be selfish of you.
By middle school you started to put in the effort to stop with the martyrdom and let your parents actually get you nice things.
(Even when you didn’t feel like you deserved any of it.)
But habits, you learned, are often hard to break, and even when you let your parents get you things that weren’t from the discount racks, the need to be convenient never quite went away.
Enter your relationship with Ushijima.
You never asked for more than whatever he could give, and you made sure to keep it that way.
Since both of you lived in the dorms, you didn’t really find the need (and the time) to spend time together out of campus unless it was a holiday.
Even if you were to go outside of school on a regular week, it would usually be a study date at a nearby café or at the public library to save on time and money.
Other times you would join Wakatoshi and the rest of the VBC when they went out to watch a college game. You know enough of the sport to know how it works, but otherwise you leave the analysis to Toshi and the rest of the team.
In between chapters of Japanese literature, you look up from your textbook. “So will you be going back to Sendai as soon as you’re done with the negotiations?”
Ushijima does the same, putting down his pen and turning off his calculator. “My uncle- my mother’s brother- offered me a place to stay for the night.”
“Will you be driven to Tokyo, then?”
“I’ll be taking the train. The earliest outbound ride after exams is on Friday evening.”
“I see.”
And you leave it at that, turning back to your book and ignoring the lump in your throat as you review the writing styles of Tayama Katai.
It takes a few moments before you hear the sound of Ushijima’s fingers typing into his calculator again.
Tumblr media
If Natsumi didn’t need her textbooks for the upcoming exams, you were sure she would’ve set them on fire.
Or maybe Toshi’s books, but you didn’t dare ask.
In lieu of this, your roommate scowls as you close the door behind the both of you. “He’s leaving right after exams?” Then she sets down her books onto her desk with enough force to make it rattle on its legs. “You two could at least hang out before he leaves for Tokyo?”
You wince at the sound before shaking your head. “I don’t mind.”
Natsumi mumbles something under her breath that sounded an awful lot like Of course you don’t before turning to you with astonishing speed.
“How many dates have you gone on exactly?” She folds her arms across her chest. “And eating meals together in the cafeteria doesn’t count.”
You were about to open your mouth.
“Watching volleyball games doesn’t count either. Neither do study sessions.”
And what comes out of your mouth instead is a sigh.
Natsumi takes in how long it took for you to reply and scowls deeper. “How is that your boyfriend?”
“We go out every once in a while!”
“Yeah, just about as much as you and I do.”
“It’s functional.” You resign, sitting on your bed.
“It’s the bare minimum.” She sighs. “Look, I know you both like each other but come on, you deserve way more than he seems inclined to give.”
“But-”
“Uh-uh, don’t even get me started on how you refuse to ask for more than the bare minimum from just about everyone you know.”
Hammer right on the nail, you internally wince.
But Tsumi doesn’t stop there. “If he loves you the way you love him, he’d give more, no questions asked.”
But you didn’t even know how to ask for that in the first place.
A lump grows in the back of your throat, and you try to swallow around it.
How could you, when you’ve resigned a good chunk of your life to the martyrdom of being convenient?
“Did I ever tell you about how Fumi and I got together?” Natsumi says after a while.
Fumiko, Natsumi’s girlfriend and fellow bandmate with Semi, was someone you only ever knew through association. You can count on one hand the number of conversations you had without your mutual friends.
Nonetheless, you shake your head, also wondering how Fumiko Sato, one of the most mild-mannered girls you had ever met, ended up with your firecracker of a roommate.
Natsumi pulls out her desk chair to sit on it. “She was quiet at the start, yeah, and she always had trouble expressing herself.”
If you looked closely, you could see Tsumi’s eye’s glaze over wistfully. “Semi-kun was a great help too, what with the band. And you already knew that I liked her first.”
You nod this time, remembering how your roommate used to  return to your dorm ready to talk your ear off about Fumiko and how adorable she was or to scream into her pillow in frustration at conversations that went awry.
“When we got together I realized that she still retained the part of her that was too afraid to really open up to me. So I kept reaching.” Natsumi loosened her school ribbon and kicked off her shoes. “And for a while I thought that my efforts were useless but I knew she needed someone who would reach for her until eventually she reached back.”
A fond smile grew on Natsumi’s lips. “And now we meet each other halfway.” She shook her head, perhaps a little embarrassed. “This isn’t always the case, but it helps to know that halfway is the default. And she’d let me know if I need to reach more or just wait.”
“How do you know?” You ask quietly.
“She tells me.”
If only it were that easy, you want to say.
“And you deserve to be met all the way, not just half.” Natsumi gets up to press a sisterly kiss at the top of your head and says nothing else.
You don’t quite know how to process all this but you nod all the same.
“I’ll make sure to keep that in mind.”
Tumblr media
Exam weeks at Shiratorizawa were always hectic to a certain degree.
But now on the Saturday preceding final exams, the flurry of stress and caffeine that already plagued students increased tenfold, it seems, and with all libraries at full capacity, you and Ushijima opted to have lunch at a nearby café and study there.
“Would you like to go out for dinner after exams?” he asked as you were about to shift gears from Calculus to English.
Golden sunlight poured in from the café windows and over your table, then reflecting off the empty plates and remnants of your drinks.
You look up from your notebook with a furrow between your brows. “Don’t you have to prepare for your trip?”
He shakes his head. “I don’t have to pack much. I have plenty of time.”
You hum. “Maybe we can eat somewhere near the station, then?” Then you reach for your cup to finish the last of your beverage.
A few strands of green hair tussle as Toshi nods. “It’s a date, then.” He says, which makes you smile up at him as you set your cup down.
“Yes it is,” You concede before turning back to your English textbook.
As you pour over some vocabulary you hear Toshi shift in front of you, and from your peripheral you realize he was opening his own English textbook.
After a few minutes, he calls your name, making you look up.
“Can you help me with something?”
“Yeah?”
He pushes his book towards you and points to a particular word with the tip of his pencil. “How do you pronounce this word?”
“Ah uhm-” You look at the word again. “Compromise.” You say slowly.
“Compromise,” he repeats, the low rumble of his voice carefully forming around the foreign syllables. He repeats it one more time before asking, “What does it mean? Is it the same as agreement?”
You shake your head. “Agreement is goi, a mutual understanding between two people.” you start. “Compromise is goi dakyo, agreeing to terms that aren’t exactly the standard you want, but it's the only course of action available.” Then you shake your head. “If that makes sense.”
“It does,” Toshi nods, then slides his book back to scribble into the margins of his pages. “Thank you.”
“Anytime, Toshi.”

You: *sent a link*
You: i looked up some places we could eat near the station that weren't fastfood and this was the best option.
You: it’s walkable but it’s still a little ways off from campus
You: we can take the bus if you want to save time? it’s along the route of the one i take when i head home.
Toshi: The restaurant looks good.
Toshi: But I don’t need to rush too much since I’ll be taking the night train.
Toshi: If it’s alright, I’d like to walk with you there
You: sure thing!
Toshi: Thank you.

kiss me more (bokuto x reader)

chapter 8: the match
You cursed yourself for taking a little too long in the shower this morning, causing you to now be running behind on this important day. Readjusting your sunglasses, you looked down at your navigation which dinged to single the end of your journey. You had finally reached it: the home of the Schweiden Adlers.
Outside of the arena, to the right half of the building, the giant banners that you had created with the team hung down and covered the exterior. You admired them for a second before making your way inside. You used the ticket that had been provided to you and found your way to the stands.
The gym was filled by the time (Y/N) got there. The Black Jackals and Adlers alike had huge fan sections touting noisemakers and signs. Cheerleaders for both sides were lined up in the stands and spirits were high. The sound in the arena was deafening even though both teams were merely warming up. That made sense though, this was a huge game between two amazing teams and it was hard to say who would win. The marketing effort had definitely worked.
As you walked through the crowd, you saw and heard Yachi waving and shouting your name. You made your way over to her and gave a quick greeting to her and the two men sitting next to her. She had talked about them before, Yamaguchi Tadashi and Tsukishima Kei, you remembered. Yamaguchi was her ex-boyfriend, but she told you that they were still on good terms (and to you it even seemed that there might still be some chemistry there). She also raved about Tsukishima's fiancée, who had been one of her fellow managers in high school. Yachi had told you before that if she had to pick a best friend other than you, it would be her.
The entire team stood on the endline with their hands behind their backs. You gazed at #12, as he searched the crowd around you looking for someone. His eyes finally stopped when he found who he was looking for: you. He grinned brightly and you smiled and waved excitedly at him.
He winked at you and you felt your heart start beating faster. The three sitting behind you gave you funny looks, before Yachi quietly laughed and Yamaguchi joined in. Tsukishima couldn't really judge this time, since his girlfriend acted somewhat similarly. The upref blew his whistle, and the starters walked onto the court. Bokuto was already full of energy, seemingly infectious for the rest of the team. It would be an interesting game to be sure.
---
The Black Jackals had emerged victorious over the Adlers and you were on top of the world. Plenty of other MSBY fans were just as excited as you. Tsukishima made a comment about 'how pissed Kageyama was going to be'. Yachi laughed at your excitement and the other two men were giving you looks again (not bad I promise), but you didn't care.
This match has been anticipated for weeks and your boys came out on top.
As both teams shook hands at the end of the game, you made your way down the stairs to wait outside of the visiting team locker room. You were excited to see the whole team, but of course most excited for one in particular. You nearly tripped down the stairs as you got distracted by the huge smile that was bound to be on his face, his perfect hair and honestly perfect body that was definitely going to be sweaty (though you didn't really mind). Just a turn down another hallway and the sight would be yours.
Something you probably should've anticipated was the crowd of people, fans and reporters already standing outside of the door waiting for the winners to exit. Several people with notepads were looking to get comments from the starters to
Some of the people actually seemed to recognize you, likely as the girl seen on the news sites with Bokuto. Osamu was there too, likely waiting for his brother. You gave him a kind wave before gluing your eyes back to the locker room door.
The door finally opened, and Sakusa was the first one out. When he noticed the crowd of people, his eyes immediately widened before he opens the door again and heads back in. He clearly wanted no part in any of it, and you felt bad for him. Atsumu was the next player out, and he was immediately swarmed with girls and people asking him questions.
"Atsumu I love you!" one girl yelled.
"How do you develop such trust with your hitters?", which he tried to respond to, before Osamu cut in, "you don't even know how, shut yer trap", and they quickly shifted to insulting each other.
Bokuto came out next, with a big grin on his face upon seeing all of the people excited to see him.
"Hey hey hey!" he shouted, causing the people in the hall to cheer (seriously, anything he did amazed them). You smiled brightly at his energy even after an exhausting game. He was always so positive. The people closer to the front tried to talk to him first, you saw some girls around him as he enthusiastically answered the question of how he was feeling after such a big win.
"Koutaro!" you jumped to try and get his attention. He looked around hearing the familiar voice and his eyes found yours, quickly lighting up. He excused himself from the reporters and fans and excitedly made his way through the crowd to you. It was difficult for him to maneuver through everyone, but they finally let him through. He quickly embraced you in a very sweaty, very tight hug, but you loved everything about it.
"You were amazing" you whispered to him. He squeezed you a little bit tighter before pulling back and giving you a genuine, appreciative smile. Your sweet moment was quickly interrupted by the same reporters he had just been talking to.
"What's your name miss?"
"Mr. Bokuto, is this your girlfriend?" one of them asked. Your eyes widened as you looked from Bokuto, to the reporters, to the several girls standing behind them. It was one thing to have people talk about you on the internet, it was a whole new beast to see their stares and glares in real life. Some were glaring daggers at you and the arm around your shoulder. Others looked at you in interest more than with malicious intent. It seemed Bokuto noticed your discomfort, as he spoke a quick 'no comment please' before leading you away into a separate area.
Atsumu and Osamu were there too, as well as some of the other players. You were just happy to finally find some peace.
"Say Osamu, you got any snacks?" Bokuto asked.
Where did you find this guy again?

HAIKYUU REUNION 1
Tumblr media
Description: Basically their timeskip reunion
Includes: Karasuno
KARASUNO:
•Karasuno VBC by heart, a very interesting mix of jobs by present
•Most likely held at their school. It brings back memories, be it sweet or sour
•The very room that held young teens United by their passion for volleyball now holds the same people, but as adults
•Ofcourse, coach ukai and takeda are present too
•Daichi shows up first. No matter when it is, the captain blood still runs in him
•Noya is probably the last to show up
•They all get a little emotional seeing each other
•Yamaguchi still sticks next to Tsukki
•They have a small debate over which team is better: MSBY black jackals or Schweiden Adlers or Green Frogs
•Conclusion: it's Karasuno.
•Noya and Asahi have countless stories to share about their voyages
•Dont forget the souvenirs they have for their friends
•The second years and third year's look at Tanaka like 'bro you really did it'
•Kiyoko and Yachi are by the snacks talking about their lives and work
•Ukai looks at the room with happiness bc they're the fruit of his coaching
•Everything they went through hits takeda and Ukai like a truck: The first time they saw the quick, the countless practice matches, the loss against seijoh, the win against seijoh, the ultimate win against shiratorizawa and everything that follows
•Literally their memories of the baby crows spreading their wings and growing into big fierce crows
•Tsukishima shares his experience with Green Frogs with Yamaguchi
•The true chaos gets unleashed when Kageyama gets annoyed with hinata
•Return of hinata boke
•Pretty sure everyone are surprised to see Asahi be not nervous, bc have you seen this man? Nervous through the three years
•Asahi tells them to let him know if they want any custom dresses
•Suga goes around punching Asahi, Tsukishima, Hinata, Kageyama and Nishinoya with that cute giggly laugh of his
•Suga obviously asks Tanaka and Kiyoko about having kids which makes them both all blushy
•Ennoshita hangs around the 2nd years until Daichi pulls him away for chatting
•Yachi designed the reunion banner
•The typical reunion stuff happens until it's time for a toast
•By the coach himself
•He gives a longass speech about everything that happened, his memories with each and every member of Karasuno VBC, and about how it was after they all graduated
•Ends up crying at the end
•Which makes everyone emotional as memories of everything they went through as a team floods in
•They all swear to meet up like this once in every Six months
•Karasuno VBC will always be the same Karasuno VBC
•Theyre family afterall
Help i miss karasuno
I mean no matter which team i liked, i ended up rooting for karasuno anyway

plots please!! I hope you’re doing well :D
@starshinc asked for plots! (acc.)
squishes you and your cheeks, i hope you’re doing well too!! okay i know the prompt says ‘three plots’, but since you didn’t specify muses, i... maybe went a little overboard (and i didn’t even include everyone i could think of, just one obvious connection and some less obvious ones :’)).
1. yamaguchi: one of the obvious choices probably but how can i not :’) i think their friendship is really sweet, especially once the anime and manga starts showing them really be friends, like at the training camps or at nationals, and i would be really interested in exploring how yamaguchi and hinata went from vaguely antagonistic (since at the very beginning yamaguchi was kind of put in the same basket as tsukishima in terms of bully behaviour fvbjf) to friends. and if you’re ever interested in writing timeskip stuff, i would love to xplore their friendship once yamaguchi becomes team captain in their third year, and them keeping in touch after hinata goes off to brazil!
2. iwaizumi: probably less obvious, but hear me out. timeskip hinata goes to brazil to train in beach volleyball so he can come back and be a better indoor player. iwaizumi studies to be an athletic trainer in the US. iwaizumi, despite seijoh’s defeat, is also shown to be pretty invested in/enthusiastic about hinata’s progress, so how about after oikawa and hinata meet up in brazil, oikawa tells iwaizumi about it (in the manga he sends him a selfie i think dbjhvf) and iwaizumi decides to contact hinata to see what he’s up to, for old times sake - and perhaps it is one of those moments when hinata is in a pinch or feels like he’s not making progress... which could lead to iwaizumi giving him advice and encouragements from his new professional perspective. an unofficial preview of what their work will be like once they’re both on the olympic team, if you like B)
3. ushijima: this guy is so estranged to the concept of rivalry, i love that he pretty much discovers it in season 3 all thanks to hinata bfvjfdhvb so i honestly would love to explore that, hinata being the first player ushijima really wants to compete against, but also being a source of inspiration and advice for hinata (like in season 4 rookie camp when hinata just walks up to him to ask him questions and everyone else goes o___o he’s talking to ushijima wat). some post-qualifiers interactions as ushijima prepares for the world championships and hinata focuses on highschool and going back to nationals, interactions in timeskip when they’re in the schweiden adlers and the black jackals... all of it, i need it all.
4. goshiki: 1st year future aces rivalry!! 1st year future aces friendship!! i just love their little interactions in season 4, how easily hinata’s enthusiasm and flattery squashes goshiki’s resentment about shiratorizawa’s defeat, and in the 10th anniversary chapter when they reunite on the same team and they’re so happy to see each other!! calling each other by their first name! i don’t know how they became best buds but that’s also something i would love to write about because who doesn’t need two over-excited puppies being friends in their lives.
5. bokuto & atsumu: i’m roping these two together because otherwise this is going to get REALLY LONG but hum yeah, owl senpai and baby crow friendship, both in highschool and in timeskip, and timeskip atsumu/hinata and that setter/hitter dynamic and how it shapes up when atsumu has to adjust to not having his twin, and hinata is adjusting back to indoors volleyball and not having kageyama as his setter.

Fan behaviour
word count; 2898 – f!reader, manga spoilers
Tumblr media
Hoshiumi was looking for the right entrance at nationals when he saw you for the first time. You were dashingly beautiful and looking frankly a bit lost. His stare shamelessly settled on you, already memorising your pretty features. Weirdly enough, they seemed somewhat familiar.
You must have felt the burning stare, eyes finally meeting his and just barely startling him. He opened his mouth, about to make some smart comment that would be one of his first attempts at flirting, but he wasn’t given the chance. “Hoshiumi Korai,” you said, crossing your arms. You were interesting and spoke confidently. He watched in awe as a small smile fell on your face. She knows me?
“Have we met?” he asked, sounding annoyed even if he didn’t mean to. He wished he knew your name too, if only so that you wouldn’t have the upper hand on the conversation.
“They say you’re the new little giant,” you say, stepping closer slowly and not exactly answering him. As you came closer, Korai could see that you were slightly taller than him.
“So you’re a fan.” he teased, raising his chin as if it made him taller.
“You might face Karasuno on the court soon, I’d rather you see me as competition,” you say, not backing up and sticking to your sweet, bordering on smug, smile.
“Karasuno… Then I look forward to beating you,” he said, already knowing that it was a match he was dying to play. No less now that the mystery girl was involved.
“Good luck.”
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, Kamomedai defeated Karasuno after Hinata was benched with a fever. You almost felt out of breath watching Hoshiumi call out to Hinata that he would be waiting for him as the little tangerine was escorted off the court. Hoshiumi’s stature and voice had you wrapped around his finger from the sidelines.
Korai celebrated with his teammates after their win, and he was only spared a few three seconds to meet your eyes through the crowd before getting scooped up in celebrations again. You had more important things to do anyway, like support your younger brother through his first loss of the season.
You two didn’t see Hoshiumi much for your third year. You came to cheer for some of Tobio’s games when they got to nationals again and purposefully looked for the white-haired boy but didn’t find yourself lucky. Sometimes you wondered if he looked for you too and the two of you just missed each other. Then it was off to university, leaving that silly crush behind.
Tumblr media
Kageyama Tobio, your younger brother by one year, told you about Hoshiumi Korai when he went to the All-Japan training camp in his first year. You simply had to research this guy who thought he was all that. There wasn’t much to find, he didn’t enjoy interviews, but that’s how you knew his name when you two first met. Tobio had called you in the evening one day while at the camp, saying that some guys were trying to pick fights with him even though he couldn’t quite understand it. You adored your clueless brother and just told him to keep being himself and make the most out of his time there. His skillset would speak for itself. He eventually left the camp with a good experience and new inspiration, and you welcomed him home to hear him talk about what the floor was made of. However, your mind kept going back to this little guy with white hair that made Tobio think that Hinata could fly even higher. If you hadn’t been so distracted by that, maybe you would have noticed how bothered Tobio was with Atsumu’s comment about his playstyle.
Tumblr media
When said dear little brother got accepted to join the Schweiden Adlers, you were thrilled! Not just because it was a team you used to watch on television, but because that also happened to be where Hoshiumi ended up. Call it silly, but your little crush on him hadn’t exactly worn off as he just got a bit taller and more handsome every year. He was eventually forced to start doing some interviews, and who could blame you for watching them? It’s not fan behaviour, you just.. like.. him?
It might be impossible to believe, but you finally met him again without meaning to. You barely let Tobio open his front door before pushing your way inside, a huge bowl of food that your older sister made you bring from her place settled in your arms. “Tobio, hii. Miwa told me to bring you some food so I’ll just stuff this in the fridge,” you rambled as you toed off your shoes and strolled into his living room. “Oh.. sorry…”
There sat Tobio’s new friends, Hoshiumi and Ushijima. Your brother came up beside you and complained about you just walking in as if you lived in his apartment, so you fired back by complaining about his ungratefulness. Poor visitors didn’t know what they should do and ended up just awkwardly waiting for you two to stop bickering. Ushiwaka tried to share a look with Hoshiumi, but the shorter man was stuck looking at you with his mouth slightly open in awe.
“Well if it isn’t my greatest competitor.” he interrupted, leaning forward in his seat with an incredibly charming, lop-sided grin.
And as you and Kageyama both faced him with incredulous looks that were nearly identical, it clicked. They’re siblings. Tobio had no idea what his teammate was talking about, but you finally fell into a smile at the fond memory, tucking some hair behind your ear. “Little giant, you remember me?”
“How could I forget that sweet look of defeat when we beat you.” he countered, standing up even though there was a whole coffee table between you two. Let’s just say he never worked on his flirting techniques as much as his volleyball techniques. Kageyama watched with a frown but didn’t want to interrupt Korai.
You handed the food over to your brother before rolling up your sleeves like you were squaring up, squinting at the white-haired man for a moment before acknowledging the other one as well. “Sorry, hi. Kageyama y/n, nice to finally meet you,” you said calmly, bowing to Ushiwaka who sharply bowed back with a short answer of his name and a greeting.
Tobio walked to the kitchen to put away the food while you turned your attention back to the shortest man. Hoshiumi hadn’t heard your name before, but now he quite liked it. Like he couldn’t wait for it to roll off his tongue.
“You should come to our game next week.” Hoshiumi blurted out confidently, sitting back down in his seat and glancing to his side where there was space for you to sit down. Not that he dared to ask if you were staying.
“Right, I brought your ticket,” Tobio mumbled, as if suddenly remembering that he had invited you to that one too. You were still quite interested in the sport, helping Tobio practice when you weren’t out with your own friends while growing up. “Here.”
“Thanks,” you said while putting your shoes back on. You playfully ruffled your brother’s hair before waving at the rest of the crowd, letting your eyes linger for a second longer on Korai. “I’ll be there as your fan this time, play well,” you said before leaving so none of the men could see the light blush that covered your cheeks. Hoshiumi was left feeling breathless from the interaction. When you know, you know.
The visit became rather short as you had to move on with other errands, but now you had something exciting to tell your friends while sitting down for coffee tomorrow.
Tumblr media
Game day arrived and you put on some of the Adlers merch that Tobio got you before heading to the stadium. You went with Hinata and the two of you enjoyed catching up in the best seats, ready for the teams to come out and play. You sent a couple of snaps of the crowd to your brother as well as a couple of selfies with his friend, hoping to hype him up and show him where your seats were. The number on your shirt said 16, which you just assumed was Tobio’s number since he was the one you should be cheering on, but Hinata had given it a curious look when he sat down. He didn’t know you were so close to Hoshiumi but he didn’t want to intrude and ask.
The game started and everyone around you quickly learnt that you and Hinata could make up a whole cheering squad on your own. Whenever there was anything you could react to, you two would be on your feet and cheering or booing the loudest out of everyone. After a particularly nice kill from Hoshiumi, set up by Tobio, you pointed to the white-haired man and yelled with joy. “Nice kill, little giant!”
Hoshiumi looked at you in surprised glee that suddenly turned into a shock that he had to quickly shake off so they could continue the game. His eyes had gone from your face down to your shirt before he quickly turned away, making you finally sit down and rethink your life choices.
“This is Hoshiumi’s number, huh?” you asked Hinata rhetorically, already feeling the embarrassment and planning out how to destroy the one who gave it to you. You finally noticed the number on the original owner’s shirt and covered your red face with your hands. Now you certainly looked like a fan.
Tumblr media
After the match, you and Hinata made your way down and to the back, showing VIP passes to the guards so you could wait in the closest hallway outside the locker rooms. The two of you had gotten into the hype again after your embarrassment and were now on cloud nine after the win. Both reenacting your favourite moments and talking over each other.
Hoshiumi found you very beautiful the first time you two crossed paths, and that never changed. He got so flustered seeing you with his number, but it also boosted his morale for sure. Tobio smirked sideways at him when they were changing, finding himself pretty clever. And it only got better when Ushijima got involved.
“Are you and Kageyama’s sister romantically involved, Hoshiumi?” he asked, ever so formal and making Kageyama crack up. The shortest boy was sputtering in disbelief, face tomato red.
“No! We’re not!” he denied as if the thought hadn’t crossed his mind. It had.
“Oh. Okay.”
Tumblr media
When they exited the locker rooms, Hoshiumi and Kageyama found you and Hinata outside, excitedly jumping around and not seeming to notice anyone outside your bubble. Hoshiumi felt this old pride bubble in his stomach, wondering how tall Hinata had gotten now and if you ever went to a black jackals game with his number on your shirt.
So he cleared his throat, making you quickly turn around, flustered by how you could suddenly see his face up close. He was thinking the same thing, and the other two guys were in disbelief at how neither of you decided to start the conversation.
“Nice jersey, y/n.” your brother teased childishly, making you move your stare to glare at him.
“You-“ you started saying before jumping at him and pulling his hair angrily. That was always the best way to get him to surrender his towering height so you could rub the top of his head until he gave up. The older sibling always wins.
“Let go! You said you were a fan so I got you his jersey!” he complained, embarrassed that some more teammates might see this. You did as he asked, dusting your hands off and stepping back beside Hinata. Hoshiumi found you entertaining and even chuckled a little, finally out of the stupor your pretty face left him in earlier.
“I am flattered,” Korai said, making you look back at him and trying to contain your blush. Now he’s all cocky about it, and you wish you didn’t find it so attractive. “Truly.”
“Careful or I’ll beat you up just the same,” you mumbled, biting back a smile. Now, you might think all Hoshiumi could see in that sentence was a challenge, but he was already trying to win another competition.
“I bet you’d look good doing that too,” he said cheekily, cheering on the inside when you turned away first and started walking towards the exit. That’s a win.
“Are we going out to eat or not?”
Tumblr media
After getting out into fresh air, you cooled off from your flustered state and fell into more normal conversation. The atmosphere was nice and mostly filled with friendly bickering, but only the two in question seemed to notice their eyes drifting to each other every so often when Hinata and Kageyama were busy yelling at each other.
The dinner was nice, like a group of friends who had very obvious, growing crushes on each other. You sat beside Hinata, across from Korai, and to say it annoyed Korai was an understatement. This was the one thing he absolutely wouldn’t lose to Hinata. He wanted his fingers to accidentally brush against your thigh.
So after everyone went their separate ways, he texted the orange-haired man. Something blunt along the lines of are you interested in Kageyama?
Shoyo: which one?
Korai stared at the message for a moment before chuckling. The girl?
Shoyo: not like you are;)
Korai put a thumbs-up reaction to the message, laughing to himself at how he didn’t even realise Hinata might have a thing for Tobio. Guess it’s a competition, first to ask their Kageyama out. This is just how his brain works.
Hoshiumi is sitting in front of the TV in his apartment and does what he finds to be the most tactical next step. He calls Hirugami and updates him on everything.
“Your heart skipped a beat? Who are you and what did you do to Korai?”
“Shut up,” he said, clearly not angry at all but rather embarrassed that his best friend was calling him out on his uncharacteristic heart palpitations. “It’s so weird, I even imagined her meeting my mom. And you. You’d get along, I bet. She’s like me but sweeter.”
“That’s exactly what I always thought you were missing. A little sweetness.” Hirugami said. It was very clearly supposed to be teasing but Korai got a little stuck on it, a small dazed smile falling on his face as he thought about you rambling on by the dinner table earlier. He looked around his relatively boring apartment, at how there was perfect space for another person cuddled up to his side on the couch. “Korai?”
“Sorry. I just think you had a point,” he admitted. “I have her number now, is it rude to ask her out over text?”
Hoshiumi stared at the message he wanted to send you and for the first time in a long while, he felt a little extra insecure. What if you didn’t actually like him? You could probably get someone like Ushijima. Someone taller.
No. He will be whatever he needs to be to deserve your attention. If only he knew he already was the object of all your desires.
Just like the first time you met, you got ahead of him. He saw your name pop up on his screen and he let out an audible gasp. You played really well today, I was proud to wear your number:)
Korai wrote and rewrote about ten different responses, even requesting some help from his aforementioned friend. Thank you! I appreciated seeing you there.
It was a stale and basic answer and made him subconsciously bite at the tip of his fingernail as he watched your chat. He should have said you looked good in it or something, damn it. Nonetheless, you didn’t disappoint. Would you like to call? I’m bored.
And so he spent the rest of the evening listening to you talk and laughing with you. He moved around his apartment, played with a volleyball he had lying around and held the weirdest poses on the sofa because all his attention was on your voice. By the time you hesitantly thanked each other for the time spent, it was the middle of the night and he didn’t have any other choice but to go to sleep if he wanted to make it to practice in the morning. As he tossed and turned in his bed that night, he couldn’t stop berating himself for not securing a date.
Instead, you and Hoshiumi got into the habit of calling each other almost every evening. It made him happy and built up his confidence enough that he eventually dared ask if he could take you out, just the two of you.
Your first date was fantastic. He took you to play laser tag and the other teams didn’t stand a chance against the two of you. After getting the gear off, you were laughing on your way out and he led you to a restaurant close by. Well planned, of course. You shared two different dishes and it really just felt like you were catching up on years of not being friends.
And what better way to finish catching up on your friendship than ending said friendship with a sweet kiss?

USHIJIMA WAKATOSHI – “IS THAT MY SHIRT?”
“It looks what?” you breathe out, suddenly turning back to see him, looking up at him with furrowed brows.
“it looks good on you.” he says, suddenly getting closer to your face.
cw: ushijima wakatoshi. lightly suggestive, reader is smaller. reader has boobs. you’re funny.
wc: 1k+
a/n: i love him so much, soso much, hes a small n silly n adorable little guy :(((
Tumblr media
it’s a sunny day. your wonderful boyfriend decided to take a break and not go to practice! (correction, you obliged him to take a fucking break) he’s in the shower, and as a wonderful partner, you decide to make some pancakes for breakfast!
You’re excited, finding an amazing pancake recipe online, and he doesn't have a clue that you're making them or what it even is. mixing the batter— oh no, it spills onto your t-shirt! oopsie daisy, you’re so clumsy at times, hehe. hot girls dont wear aprons, remember? with pancake mix all over your t-shirt, what’re you supposed to do now? of course, the one and only right answer, to wear one of your boyfriend’s shirt!
humming down the hallways, making your way towards his overly big wardrobe, you realize you should probably take this rich man shopping. two pants, three pair of jeans, all of his underwear folded in a drawer, pajamas, a luxury branded robe he never uses, neat shirts of all types, blazer, coats, and of course, millions of shorts, leggings, running jackets, compression shirts, and any other type of athletic clothing. you sigh, ugh so unfashionable.
but, one thing catches your attention. neatly folded and hanging, you spot his beautiful jersey. schweiden adlers, his name written on the back, the dark blue collar, number 11 written widely front and back, the little logo on the right, the gold ombre below going up- fuck he should be coming any minute now! still, even if he’s currently playing for Japan’s men national volleyball team, this jersey was always your favourite. bingo, you think, immediately snatching it (with lots of care, of course) and placing it down on the floor.
taking off your messy t-shirt and throwing it away, knowing how eventually he’s gonna be the one to pick it up and place it in the washing machine- you put it on.
his fresh and manly scent immediately invades your nostrils, and oh god is it big. just like his d-
he’s big. its obvious. he’s tall, and you’re not at his height either, so there’s a difference. his jersey reaches below your pelvis, while on him it used to reach just before reaching his hip. jerseys for athletes are usually tighter, meaning that this might be a tiny bit smaller for him. the sleeves reach your biceps, and your collarbone is almost exposed. you’re surprised though, its quite thin and flexible. you thought that it might be a bit felty or something, but it’s light!
making your way towards the kitchen, you go back to the counter again to actually start the pancakes- and you finally hear the loud creak you’ve been waiting for. a few creaks coming in your direction, it suddenly stops, and you turn around just to face a—
tall. wet. and a freshly from the shower wakatoshi. ah, his body is like a work of art, like a greek god, sculpted to perfection, and, with only a beige towel wrapped around his hips- wait a minute, that’s the same colour of that branded robe inside his closet, are they maybe from a set?—
“love.” he breathes out, his deep voice hitting you suddenly, interrupting your thoughts, and your cheeks flush.
“yeah? what’s wrong, toshi? something the matter?” fluttering your eyes at him, speaking in a tone so oblivious.
“Is that … my jersey?” he questions, cocking an eyebrow.
“no, it’s not. it’s my boyfriend’s. isnt it, like, so cool? i swear he’s so cool, you should prolly meet him y’know.” you answer sheepishly, facing your back to him, showing off the name written widely on the back.
“Ah… I see. It looks …” if it wasn't for you, he wouldn't quite get your sarcasm and would stand there confused. deciding not to answer, he simply observes you. seeing where it reaches till, sleeves reaching your biceps, and the way your curves are hidden under it— but seeing the curve of your breasts, the jersey flowing down from there, makes him blush a little.
“It looks what?” you breathe out, suddenly turning back to see him, looking up at him with furrowed brows.
“it looks good on you.” he says, suddenly getting closer to your face.
your eyes widen slightly, cheeks heating up softly. leaning back, you scoff, prepping the stove now.
“i-i know, of course it does. why wouldn't it?” you answer after a moment,
“you're right, really. it's very big on you. why are you wearing it, honey?” he asks, now suddenly feeling big hands on your waist, your back flush against his firm, broad, and bare chest.
“because, you know-”
“no, I do not know.”
“Toshi!!" You whine his name out, frowning with a scoff.
"it's because while I was making the batter, I spilled a lot on my t-shirt, so, it got dirty, and I wanted to … “
your voice gets quieter after each word, and he notices, his hands now going from your waist, to now caressing your sides.
“to what?” he asks so normally, gosh it makes you mad.
“to … wear… your, shirt. or t-shirt. or jersey. I just wanted to wear something of yours, y-you know, to take in your warmth and to feel comfy and nice. I missed you, y'know? s-so I thought...” you explain, tone quiet.
“I see. Doesn't making love count as the same thing though? If you're missing me so much, I should take more break days. No, why don't we have it today? tonight? now?”
“W-what?! Toshi- you should definitely take more break days but you can't just squeeze that in like that, that's too sudden!-” you squeak, surprised by the sudden change in topic, cheeks heating up impossibly as you look up to see his face. he looks so calm and stern.
“Tonight we’re going to have dinner at your favourite restaurant. we’ll have some wine, a three course meal, and then I'll have my dessert later.”
he states with a nonchalant tone, pecking your cheek from behind before walking off, leaving you ultimately flustered.
Tumblr media
safe to say you got a three course meal and wine from your fav restaurant, in change he didn't get your pancakes but did get his dessert!! now you're unable to walk lolol
