A fic-aversary.
Four years ago today, I posted my first work of fan fiction ever. I was still relatively new to reading fanfic at that point. I was excited and nervous to contribute to the community that had floored me with it's quality of writing. Hitting that post button was scary. The response made me cry. My story was met with the sweetest, kindest, most supportive comments. I'm forever grateful!

About a year into co-owning Rose Apothecary, Patrick's pressured to go home for Halloween to attend the big town festival (Hallmark vibesssss) and his cousin's bachelor party. But he's not out yet and he tells David he wishes he had a boyfriend to take home to make the process easier. David offers to play the role he's yearned for since he met Patrick. But the thing is, neither of them really have to pretend.
This story follows the guys on their weekend in Patrick's hometown. Staying with the Brewers, carving pumpkins, meeting more Brewers, wearing costumes, and THERE IS ONLY ONE BED *gasp*.

“What are you wearing?”
David whirls around. Sheepish isn’t really an expression he’s pulled before, but that’s what he feels. “I, uh, it’s….your…”
“Flannel shirt. Yeah, I can see that.” Patrick’s cheeks are pinking up sweetly. His eyes, a little dreamy as they run up and down David’s body. “Are we doing a scene? You should’ve told--”
“What? No! I’m not introducing a scene in your childhood bedroom, Patrick.” He shimmies his shoulders. “But let's make a note for another time.” David’s brows bounce suggestively. “No, I’m preparing to meet your extended family today so I wanted to look a little less...a little more…”
Patrick’s eyes soften with understanding. “Honey, you don’t have to be a little more, or a little less anything.” He moves into David’s space and rubs his hands up and down his flannel clad arms. “My cousins will love you, whatever you wear.”
“Mmkay, but I know I can be, you know, extra with my sartorial choices.”
“Extra fashionable? Extra gorgeous? Extra hot? Yes, you are absolutely all those things.”
David rolls his eyes. “Okay, now you’re being extra.”

Another anniversary post and a look back. I remember starting this one while I was writing Bloom. I wanted to try my had at writing a longer story. And in a weird way, since Bloom lacked a sex scene, I felt compelled to 'make up for it' by writing, I think, four into this one.
Originally, this had an extensive sound track, but it didn't feel right to add background music that wasn't actually playing in their world, so I took most of them out. Looking back at things I'd change- definitely broke it into chapters! Definitely a rookie mistake!
Anyway, happy fourth birthday to You are Gold.

"Have you read the fanfic for this?” Stevie gestures at the television with the joint she’s holding.
David turns his head to look at Stevie. It seems like it takes a long time to get her in his view. There she is, looking beautiful and ethereal through the haze of pot smoke in her apartment.
He reaches for the joint before he answers. His brain feels slow. “Mmm, I haven’t but it must be crazy.”
Had they not been so high they may have been more cagey about it.
David blows out a plume of smoke. “Wait. Wait, what do you know about fan fiction?”
Stevie stares at him blankly. “What do you know about fan fiction?”
