I've decided to challenge myself by attempting to doodle something for every chapter of Eragon as a means of both growing my skill and figuring out how the hell I want to draw these characters.

I read some of the reviews for Dragon Age Absolution on IMDB and it’s so funny that people seriously give reviews which just say “everyone is gay 2/10.”

Dude, what did you even expect? This is Dragon Age, there are always gay characters, it’s one of the gayest series you can find.

Look at this review, hilarious:

Clearly written by someone who knows nothing about the series. They incorrectly refer to the characters with D&D class descriptions and they call the qunari mage “some kind of giant goat lady”. LOL It’s actually quite funny to read, but... if someone starts watching a tv show that is part of a larger series and then they get angry because it depicts the usual themes and topics of that series, well they have only themselves to blame. Hate gay characters? Maybe be aware if a 13 year old series has gay storylines and don’t act like the most recent entry has an “agenda”. Ridiculous. Homophobes always assume there is an “agenda” so they don’t even bother to check whether or not gay characters are actually new to the series they are watching.

✨ Echoes From The Past ✨ Younger Sapphira and her mother Melanite <3 Speedpaint!

Long time no redesigns! As I continue to plan AUS8 I decided to get these done since these three will play some role in it. BEHOLD, THE YOUNGER SISTER SQUAD! Miele, Chimera and Sapphira (Sapphire).

Miele Robledos: we know her, canon cannot settle on her goddamn age, Miele! As you probably know from the summaries, she's the Witch of Soil, around 4-5 years younger than Flora, and has to deal with Flora's constant overprotectiveness, clashing with her reckless, adventurous, rebellious teen behavior. Her Source is Earth, which she has lightly mixed with Metal and even Water, letting her use the entire ground in whichever way she pleases.

Carmilla "Chimera" Mirthos: once more, roughly 3-4 years younger than Stella, and while they got on better terms in AUS5 they're still not super close. She's still dealing with some toxic competitive issues but she's getting better! As Fairy of the Lunar Winds, her Source is obviously Wind, with she has mixed with Water and a bit of Fauna recently as she has started helping Radius with his aviary. Her nickname of Chimera came from her childhood, where she would mix and match clothing that did not go together in the slightest, and after her transition to goth/alt styles she kept the nickname, as it sounded edgier than her actual name to her.

Sapphira Anemone Hiver: Icy's lil sis! Canon to the AU, She's around Miele's age and roughly 6-7 years younger than Icy. She still loves her sister despite her constant, constant war crimes, but she's stuck in a rebellious phase of her own and chose the path of Fairy, against her family legacy of Witches and Hexers. Outside of that she's a fairly sweet girl, though the family resemblance comes out when sufficiently angry. She's the Fairy of Auroras, with a Light Source aided by Wind and Ice.

colouring absolution sketches

Thinking about my top three favorite scenes throughout the Inheritance Cycle and I think my choices are a little sappy in the end. All three are moments wherein Eragon and Saphira are just giddy with the joy of being near each other OR scenes in which there's a lot of catharsis. I just like to seeing them outside of the Horrors of War for once.

Putting my picks under the readmore to avoid spoiling scenes for anyone who HASN'T read the books yet. If any Inheritance fans are out there... cmere... I just want to talk.

Brisingr | Reunion Eragon and Saphira's second reunion in Tronjheim never fails to get a reaction out of me. I always know when the chapter is coming up but it always hits just as hard as the first time I read it. The separation isn't as heartbreaking as the one before it [Helgrind] but it still makes me ache- all the giggles that follow when she gets the hiccups really add it to it. One of those scenes that reminds you of how young they both are and how deeply the bond between them goes.

Eragon | Master of the Blade Our protagonist, a farm boy and a dragon, play in a lake [that's it!]. It's another one of those rare "Eragon and Saphira are just having fun" scenes that I can never get enough of. Because of the nature of the narrative, and the nature of narratives in general, the characters don't have a ton of downtime to just enjoy themselves. There are plenty of moments wherein Eragon is happy but not many where he's doing something just for the fun of the activity- it's not a luxury that he is allowed.

Brisingr | Two Lovers Doomed, Inheritance YES, this is literally two chapters and YES, you should have seen it coming. Eragon finally getting to know the truth of his father [Brom] and getting more insight into who Selena was? It was everything to me. The truth is hinted at frequently enough and intrigue about who his parents were and what they were like is set up in book one baby. There are 157,220 words in Eragon, roughly 176,000 in Eldest, and you have to get through 604 PAGES of Brisingr before you get to know the full truth. The catharsis is as real for the reader as it is Eragon himself.

Honorable mentions: 4. Every single dragon POV chapter. 5. Every interaction between Eragon and the villagers of Carvahall in Brisingr [bread making scene <3 Eragon paying Gedric for the saddle leather <33 Gifts of Gold is another favorite chapter of mine]. 6. Every Nasuada scene [no the ones with the horrible worms]. 7. Eragon and Saphira drunk singing.

i want to like hira but the quick pace of absolution makes it hard for me to be actually invested in her character enough to justify her mistreatment of miriam.

rezaren, though his death is rightly earned, at least had the excuse of being attached to the Idea of miriam and neb—and perhaps, with some conjecture, wanting to atone for his personal failings as a mage which led to the murder of neb and his mother (which would have been a far more interesting angle to explore with rezaren than simply having him be purely entitled without any latent emotion attached to it, but i digress)

but hira like… was in a romantic relationship with miriam? and like, knew personally of miriam’s struggles growing up as a tevene slave…? and despite knowing miriam’s struggles, and loving the PERSON (not merely the idea of her, as with rezaren), willingly tried to sell her back into slavery for a… hackneyed revenge plot?

like you can absolutely argue that people Can’t be rational actors when it comes to that sort of trauma, but it still feels like a weird kick in the teeth that hira was Always going to sell miriam back into slavery, and like… actively… imposed herself upon miriam to get on her good side?

in a perfect world i’d kind of love to explore the idea of rezaren and hira as two separate sides of the same coin, changed drastically by their childhood circumstances and miriam as the poor soul who has to stand in between that, but alas—the show is far too short for any sort of meaningful nuance to occur.

for what it is, the show itself is great. fun, funny, a good time-waster. six thirty-minute episodes is not a lot of time for a fantasy show, at all. i just wish there had been sliiiightly more screentime with hira to maybe like… convince us that the death of tevinter >> miriam. i know the show hints to it, and hira outright says it, but it just feels like… idk, like a writer is writing it, and not a character Expressing it.
