Rating the Nonhuman Characters of Screamin’ 20s based on How Well They’d Hold A Human Baby

There’s barely any context for this, but I thought it was funny, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. Buzz(Mi-Go): 10/10. He’s so excited to see a human larva up close. Welcome to the universe little guy! He’s very gentle, holding the baby with all four arms and only touching them with his feelers. Which the baby immediately grabs. Martin Avery(Deep One hybrid): 7/10. He’s one of those people babies just really like for some inexplicable reason. You could hand him a screaming, red-faced little terror and they’d calm down the moment they’re in his arms. Henry Pebbleton(Vampire): 6/10. Better than Sam, but he’s still nervous. Super gentle, weirdest baby talk you’ve ever heard. Says stuff like “Sir are you aware that you have tiny little hands?” or “Miss, would please take my finger out of your mouth?”

Samuel Greene(Serpent Man): 5/10. He just goes still. Barely moving or breathing. He knows that humans are never more fragile and useless than when they’re babies. Terrified of dropping or otherwise injuring the baby, or worse, making them cry. Richard Pickman(Ghoul): 4/10. Holds baby upside down. The baby thinks this is a fun game, and is absolutely delighted, the parents less so. Gilbert Lake(Reanimated): 2/10. He’s a nice guy, but he’s full of glowing green mad science zombie juice, and that stuff should be kept away from infants because they will try to put it in their mouth. Nyarlathotep(Great Old One): -10,000/10. Do not him anywhere near your house, let alone your kids.

It’s Fine Press Friday!

Today we’re taking a deep dive into Songs for Gaia, a slim edition of poetry by Gary Snyder (b. 1930). This understated, beautifully-crafted letterpress volume was printed in 1979 for Kah Tai Alliance at Copper Canyon in Port Townsend, WA, a fine press dedicated solely to poetry since its founding in 1972, and was handbound by poet and bookbinder Samuel Green. It features woodblock illustrations by poet and printmaker Michael Corr (b. 1940), who learned his craft while living in Kyoto from block printer and illustrator Takeji Asano (1900-1999). Asano was a notable figure in Japan’s Sōsaku-hanga woodblock printing movement. The book is quarter bound in cloth with a cover marbled in a finely executed combed feather pattern, a touch that lends a hint of psychedelia to its otherwise traditional aesthetics. It was released in a limited edition of 300 copies.

Snyder, who is popularly known for his time amongst and spiritualist influence on the Beat poets and the counterculture of their generation (along with Kerouac’s portrayal of him as Japhy Ryder in the 1958 novel The Dharma Bums) spent 13 years in Japan (1956-1968) studying Zen Buddhism, forestry, and ecology. A scholar of Asian languages versed in cultural anthropology, he also studied calligraphy with accomplished calligrapher and seal carver Charles Leong during his time at Reed College. Snyder’s calligraphic signature graces the half-title page of this edition.

This modest yet potent edition of Songs for Gaia is a fitting form for the work of a poet whom writer Bob Steuding once characterized as cultivating an “accessible” style and “a new kind of poetry that is direct, concrete, non-Romantic and ecological.” As Snyder wrote of his own work in A Controversy of Poets, “I try to hold both history and wilderness in mind, that my poems may approach the true measure of things and stand against the unbalance and ignorance of our times.”

My friend @theredheaded-stuff showed me this panel of Damian carrying this giant sword around and then I just came up with this whole scenario lol😂

Damian just walking into the Justice League base with Bruce, while carrying his giant sword around like in the picture above, just shocking everyone in there with it

Clark: Bruce???? You just let him carry that around with him?????

Bruce: Well, it's what he wanted, so I said it was fine with me

Hal: ARE YOU SERIOUS???? JUST LOOK AT THE SIZE OF THAT THING!! HOW DOES HE CARRY IT AROUND WITH SUCH TINY ARMS????!!!

Damian, points sword at hal: DON'T CALL MY ARMS TINY!!!

Barry: DON'T HURT HIM!!!!

Oliver: ....Now I can see why my son Connor was begging me to let him get a giant sword last week. Good thing I said no to him CAUSE THAT WOULD JUST BE CRAZY JUST LIKE YOU RIGHT NOW!

Bruce: Hey! Don't tell me how to raise my kids!

Oliver: WHERE DOES HE EVEN PUT THAT THING WHEN HE'S TIRED OF HOLDING IT OR WHILE DOING SOMETHING???? IN HIS BACK POCKET????!!!

Bruce: You know what? Yes he does, CAUSE I BUILTED ONE FOR HIM! AND IT'S CALLED THE BAT POCKET!! And maybe if you would get your son a giant sword too, than maybe he would feel just as cool as my son right now, because just using arrows to fight crime is nothing new and it's just boring!!!!

Oliver: Take that back right now

Diana, suddenly walking into the room: (GASP!) OH MY! WHAT IS HE HOLDING????

Bruce, with his arms crossed in annoyance: A sword. Are you gonna start giving me some judgey comments about my parenting skills too?

Diana: Absolutely not! I believe it is one of the best choices for being used as weapons!! Let me see! (Runs over to Damian to get a better look)

Diana, examining it: Oh, it is just very marvoules!

Damian: Thank you

Diana: You've made the right choice setting him up with such a wonderfully and beautifully crafted sword that would protect him very well in combat! It is even big enough to destroy dangerous beasts during battle as well!

Bruce: Why thank you (looks at the rest of the League with a smirk)

Everyone else: ????

(Both Damian and Diana bond over their love for swords after this)

Damian showing it to Jon during a fight on patrol in Metropolis:

Jon: OMG! What is that?!

Damian: It's a sword, Corncob (=_=)

Jon: Well, yeah, I can see that for sure, I'm just wondering about how are you even carrying it???? And where did you get it from???!

Damian: Simple! I'm just that strong enough to carry it! And it was gifted to me! Now watch this!

(swings sword at a random tree behind him, making it fall on top of an incoming giant Lexcorp robot as he turns around to face Jon with a confident proud smile)

Jon, jaw dropped: (GASP!).... I'VE GOTTA ASK MY DAD TO GET ME ONE TOO!!!!

Damian: You should

Later:

Bruce, calling Clark: Clark? My son said that he left his Twizzelr pack at your house during a sleepover

Clark: What? Which one?

Bruce: We'll, he only brought one with him. They were specificly the red cherry Twizzelr's that he had with him-

Clark: No, I mean which son?

Bruce: The older one

Clark: Dick?

Bruce: No

Clark: You don't mean Jason than, do you?

Bruce: Of course not, I'm talking about my smaller one

Clark: Damian????

Bruce: No! Tim! How could you not know???? He was having a sleepover with Conner yesterday, remember????

Clark: I-....Ugh, It's just that I'm having a hard time focussing today since Jon keeps begging me and Lois to get him a sword after seeing Damian with it and I keep telling him no

Bruce: Get it for him

Clark: Absolutely not! He could hurt himself with it

Bruce: You and your son are both invulnerable, Clark, so I think he'll be just fine

Clark: I'm not getting him a sword!

Meanwhile with Jon:

Jon, flopping onto his bed with annoyance, talking to Damian on his phone: Aughhh! Damian, you wont believe it! My Mom and Dad won't let me get a sword! They say it's too dangerous!

Damian: -tt- Nonsense! It is a perfectly fine weapon to use in combat as long as you have enough training with it!

Jon: I know! It would just be so cool if I could have one! But they think that I won't be able to actually use it properly! Hmph!

Damian: Well, that stinks

How do you think the Superfam celebrates Clark’s birthday? (+justice league and daily planet)

Sorry for the lateness answering this one but for the sake of it….

It starts out relatively early in the morning with Conner stepping out to tend to the animals by himself as Pa and Clark had taught him while Lois and Jon get a Happy Birthday Banner in the kitchen and make a hearty breakfast for him once he walks into the kitchen table.

Afterwards at work, Mr White and many of the other associates give Clark some congrats along with Jimmy giving Clark a card with some words about how much Clark means to him as a pal in his own unique way. At the Watchtower during a break from work, Diana and Arthur had crafted specialized flowers from their respective lands which are based on old Kryptonian flowers while Hal and John Stewart retrieve an old yet absolutely gorgeous tree from the depths of the sector Krypton was from as a gift that’s been a long standing tradition for them. As for Bruce similarity to tradition, he gave Clark some cash

Finally once he finally returns home after a long day at both of his jobs, Kara and Chris had prepared him a special ice cream cake with his favorite flavors along with the amount of candles all across that count to his age. The entire family is eager for their slices after Clark gets his first one, playfully then Jon tells him to hurry up blowing out said candles while Clark was in the middle of a small speech about his life up to this point

“Tough Crowd huh, Krypto?” He says with the Superdog barking happily
