Taking its cue from serialised fiction, the work narrates the return to her father’s home of a girl and her daughter, the fruit of an extra-marital relationship. Kneeling, she implores clemency from her father, whose anger is placated by a priest who reminds him of the duty to forgive. The emotional strength of the painting won it an award at the 1895 National Exhibition, whose jury chose to ignore a deficient composition that nonetheless has its aspirations, since the artist based it on models by Caravaggio and Velázquez. Its acquisition by the State legitimised the discourse that defined the position of woman in the patriarchal society of the time. (source)

Song Review: Neil Young & Crazy Horse - “Don’t Spook the Horse”

There was a time in the last century when Neil Young could just fuck around with Crazy Horse and roll up a terrific number.

Exhibit A: 1990’s “Don’t Spook the Horse,” re-released to announce the July 14 reissues of Freedom, Ragged Glory, Weld and Arc as Official Release Series Volume 5.

A lumbering, three-chord rocker with twang, “Don’t Spook the Horse” was obviously tossed off in a haze of pot smoke. But it works as Young sings:

If you want to go ridin’ in the tall green grass/try to not spook the horse/if you want to pet that old hound dog make sure he ain’t rolled in shit

So “Don’t Spook the Horse” is about the music, rather than the lyrics. And high or otherwise, NYCH fans’ minds will expand around this one.

Amanda Sampedro, Silvia Meseguer and Laia Aleixandri will not continue next season in our club and will say goodbye to the fans this Sunday after the match against Eibar at the Centro Deportivo Wanda Alcalá de Henares.

Should musicians surprise us? Bonobo, for instance, does that by making the slight variation on himself througout his opus. The same can be applied to Neil Young, yet he makes things tougher for us, when he have to deal with Trans. The latter is – I have to be honest with you – one of my favourite records that shouldn't be considered as one of my favourites according to all the rules of the cognoscenti thanks to the sheer is-he-actually-for-real-or-something. True, that factor does not, ha, factor in the way of Dazzle Ships, but mind the context here – this is Neil Young, showing himself to tackle the 80's on his own terms. Sadly, many misinterpreted this statement of his and he retreated to the familiar sounds soon afterwards.
