Hello everyone! There are a lot of new faces here so I think it’s time for a reintroduction:
I’m Sights! I’m 35. years old and I use any pronouns. I literally don’t care enough to choose! I’m a married, stay-at-home parent of two. Before that, I was a Registered Nurse for 6 or so years. I’m chronically ill, and I only mention this because the monitoring, treatment, fatigue and other associated symptoms make up a huge part of my day to day life.
I’ve been writing since I was a child. It’s definitely my “purpose,” if there is such a thing. I love all things spooky, monstrous, and disgusting. I write for most of the slashers, as well as inhuman creatures, aliens, the supernatural, etc. If you’re curious about something, don’t hesitate to send me an ask!
Commissions are always open. Requests are rarely open. However, I will reblog a few writing prompt lists or games here and there so keep your eyes peeled!
Finally, I expect you to be 18 or older if you are interacting with this blog. If you are a minor, I need you to leave and come back when you’re 18. Respect my boundaries.
Thank you for following! Stay awhile, check out the links below, and remember:
No tears, please. It’s a waste of good suffering.

Ok so, funny aah theory I have for Endfield to explain whatever is going on; it's not an alternate universe, but more of a dimensional world. We know with Expeditioner's Joklumarkar (IS4) and Sami icefields lore that dimensional portals and beings do exist. While those seem corrupted, unlike anything we are familiar with, it's likely they are related to how the Ancients arrived to Terra in the first place. I doubt they came from space, considering the sky barrier, so they probably came from another dimension, which is some fucked up shit but interesting.
Endfield could be taking place in exploring another dimension of Terra, where Angelina has been sent - I mean, she has been dispatched here by Rhodes Island, and yet when we see Rhodes's landship in Endfield, it doesn't seem to live its best ship life. It could be interesting if they managed to enter in contact with some interdimensional company and accepted to explore their world because it could bring a lot about the origin of Originium and a possible Oripathy cure.
Interesting, I didn't realize that the demons were confirmed to be extradimensional rather than just from outside Terra. I considered in passing that Endfield might be another dimension as a way of explaining Kal'tsit that isn't Kal'tsit and Ch'en that isn't Ch'en, but I didn't give it any more thought than that until I saw a post speculating that a few shots in the trailer contained a portal, with the Endministrator and that bossfight we saw a glimpse of on one side and Angelina teased at the end of the trailer on the other side.
Tumblr media
I hadn't considered the ancients being extradimensional. I had always just assumed their arrival on Terra (or creation by whatever precursor civilization left behind things like the Chernobog sarcophagus and The Law, if you subscribe to that theory) predated the construction of the fake sky. But given the gate in Sami it's definitely possible they could have arrived that way, after that fake sky was already a thing.
And I really have no idea what is going on with the suspended Rhodes Island landship crashing into a tower of Babel, or that statue of Patriot. They both had the same white-grey stone texture and color to them, but otherwise I have no idea what to make of them. If Talos-II is in a separate dimension, maybe they're aspects of Terra leaking through into Talos-II? but for it to be those highly specific things at that scale without any other things showing this is a wider phenomena, that wouldn't make a ton of sense imo, so I don't really have a guess I'm confident in.
I'm somewhat split on the alternate dimension theory. I vastly prefer it to there just being no lore or story connection at all, and thankfully the Angelina announcement has ruled that out. But I think Endfield and Arknights being in the same universe has more interesting potential than separate dimensions, because it forces them to give more concrete and specific explanations for things rather than being able to handwave away things by going "oh that's just this dimension's Kal'tsit don't worry about it".

Since the memory arc references events from the end of Odyssey 's main plot as well as both its expansions Legacy of the First Blade and The Fate of Atlantis, it is strongly suggested that new players not start this sequence until after completing the game in its entirety. This memory is only accessable after players have completed " The Big Break" and reached Megaris, afterwhich they can find the quest giver back at Sami's port on Kephallonia. Kassandra decided to take some time for herself and relax on the relatively secluded island of Korfu. Kassandra followed the cruise barker as she walked to the docking ramp and boarded the ship. Kassandra departing for Korfu for a vacation Kassandra put her hand to her chin in thought.
Cruise Barker: If there are, they're too busy relaxing.
Kassandra: How about soldiers? Criminals? People.
Cruise Barker: There are no clearer waters than off the coast of Korfu.
Kassandra smiled at the thought of finally relaxing. Where your only responsibility is to get much-needed rest.
Cruise Barker: To Korfu Island! A land with no work and all play.
Kassandra: Paradise? Does the boat go to Elysium?.
Cruise Barker: Care to visit paradise, misthios ?.
The cruise barker pitching the island of Korfu as a vacation destination Interested, Kassandra walked up and spoke to the cruise barker.
Cruise Barker: Come sail away! Find your bliss on Korfu! Boats leaving daily!.
While passing through Sami's port, Kassandra saw a woman calling out to passersby from where she stood on the quay by a docked ship. Tired after so many years fighting and starting to realize the full burden of the task Aletheia had given her as immortal Keeper of the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, Kassandra returned to Kephallonia hoping to quietly retreat from society.

Fledgling
Kassandra learned the enormity of the price on her head as soon as she reached the outskirts of Sami, by the way the townspeople dropped their eyes as she passed, their whispers carrying the words "Cyclops" and "coin" and "dead" across the salty air. That the Cyclops searched for her was nothing new. What was new was the bounty he'd sponsored, backed by cold, hard drachmae—enough to buy a family passage off the island. Enough to start a new life. After fifteen years in Kephallonia, Kassandra knew everyone in Sami by name, and they knew hers. But the Kephallonian Way was to look out for yourself first. Old friends could easily become new dangers.
She tied Phobos's halter to a picket line near the market, mildly surprised that her hands were steady as she worked the rope into a knot. Markos's constant scheming had brought them constant trouble; trouble she'd always been able to get them out of thanks to her intimidating presence and the occasional application of fists. But there was a big difference between punching thugs and crossing blades with a real mercenary, especially the kind that would go after a bounty as sizeable as the one on her head right now. The churn in her guts was getting harder to ignore. She swallowed hard and patted Phobos's neck, feeling solid muscle under her palm. Maybe he'd lend her some of his strength while she figured out what the Hades she was going to do now.
The market was bustling as always, with the shouts of merchants and children hanging in the air and a menagerie of animals pecking and scratching in the salt-crusted dust. It was only a short walk to the docks, and that's where she'd start asking questions. Some mercenary had to have picked up her contract by now, and she needed to know who she was up against. Trade goods weren't the only things unloaded from ships.
It was impossible to ignore the hush that followed her. Voices lowered. And was she imagining those mothers pulling their children close and whispering in their ears? "Don't end up like poor Kassandra, children. Killed by a real misthios."
She needed her information quick, and then to get herself gone, away from Sami where she could plan her next moves. She snagged the shipbuilder's boy by his tunic as he scurried past and got him talking by flashing a coin. Yes, a ship had arrived yesterday with passengers. Yes, a bunch of them were armed, but they mostly stuck close to one really rich guy who wore blue robes. Except for the mercenary. He kept to himself.
"A mercenary, eh?"
The boy nodded. "He's not as big as you, but the sailors said he had fists made of stone and that he could knock a bull out with one punch."
Kassandra flipped the drachma into his palm, and she sat back on her haunches and watched him disappear into the bustle of the dockyard. She knew of only one man who matched the sailors' description, and that was Talos the Stone Fist. He'd done jobs in Kephallonia before, always for the Cyclops, who was the only one on the island with enough drachmae to pay a misthios's rates. Kassandra had never crossed paths with him, but she knew he was old for a mercenary. Not that that mattered much—any steps he'd lost to age were made up for by experience. His years had been spent fighting real battles for real coin, not roughing up thugs and knocking over merchants' pots for pitiful handfuls of drachmae. The thought of it sent a chill down the back of her neck. Talos could still be in Sami. He could still be in the dockyard. He could be watching her right now.
She resisted the urge to wrap her hand around the handle of her sword. Instead, she rose to her feet and strode up the path back to the market, setting her shoulders and playing up the swagger, trying to project a confidence she didn't really feel to the eyes she knew were following her.
Phobos saw right through it, of course, and he snorted softly into her hair and nudged his muzzle into her chest as she untied him and gathered up the reins. "It's all right, boy," she said. "We're not in trouble yet."
She set out towards Pali. If Talos wanted to find her, she'd make him look in the shadowed forests of the Cursed Valley. And she wasn't planning to hide, for she had far too many tasks yet to be done: Drucilla the bowyer still had a missing shipment of lumber that needed finding. And the temple priestess still needed Kassandra to retrieve that missing spear. And the Cyclops himself had to be dealt with once and for all...
She'd handle them one thing at a time.
~~
At the lumberyard, it didn't take Kassandra long to figure out that Drucilla's wayward shipment had been looted by bandits, and clumsy ones at that. They'd left fragments of wood behind, and deep gouges raked the forest duff into a trail that pointed straight to a nearby shipyard as brightly as one of Apollo's arrows.
She watched the bandits from a hidden perch on a rocky escarpment overlooking the dock, while Ikaros circled high overhead and the sun sank to meet the water at the horizon's edge. There were seven bandits by her count: four tasked with moving the lumber closer to the dock, and three to keep watch. As she watched them struggle with their misbegotten goods, dusk smeared the sky orange and purple, and in due time, Helios's disappearing chariot lit a sunpath over the water as the shadows darkened a trail down to the docks.
The first bandit was too easy; he wasn't even looking in the right direction, instead distracted by one of the many chickens roaming about. She approached him from behind and wrapped one arm around his neck while covering his mouth with her other hand, pulling her forearm tight against the side of his throat until his body went limp beneath her.
The next four were grouped together, and she took the first two by bashing their heads against each other like rotten melons. Another bandit went down with a palm strike to the forehead, but she couldn't get to the last before he'd turned tail with a shout. Torches were lit and the remaining bandits went into full alert, but there were only three of them now and those were the kind of odds that she liked.
She drew her sword and her broken spear and faced the nearest bandit as he attacked in a headlong rush, blindly, stupidly, giving up the numbers advantage in his panicked charge. Three against one was a challenge. One against one made her smile, and she swept his blade aside with the point of her spear and slammed the pommel of her sword into his nose as hard as her strength would let her. He dropped to the ground with a howl and a spray of blood.
The last two bandits were a tall woman and a lanky man. The man wore quilted leather and was armed with a cudgel, but the woman wore a full breastplate and tassets and wielded a sharp-looking gladius. Better gear came with power. This woman was probably the captain of this operation; the man her second-in-command.
They attacked in tandem, but they were only two against one and Kassandra turned the cudgel aside with her spear and the gladius with her sword. The edge of the gladius glinted in the torchlight and she used its flash to keep track of the captain's location as the three of them circled around each other. The chickens and goats in the yard had reached a state of full panic and were milling about the edges of the torchlight, raising an ungodly ruckus of noise and movement between the shadows. Kassandra kept her feet balanced and moving, pivoting to keep both bandits in front of her. Then the man leapt toward her and swung his cudgel at her head wildly, more as a distraction than anything else, and she dropped low and took out his knee with a sweeping kick before rolling out of the path of the captain's gladius.
Broken knee was crawling out of the edge of her vision and she let him go in order to focus on the captain, who was turning out to be more than just competent with a sword, and thus more skilled than most anyone Kassandra had ever fought on this backwater of an island.
Metal struck metal as they tested each other's defenses, always circling, always moving. Neither had the advantage of reach, and Kassandra was quickly running out of tricks to try that could break an opponent's guard. She'd have to keep up her defense and outlast the other woman. Far more interesting than knocking out thugs and breaking pots.
The muscles in Kassandra's shoulders warmed with the exertion of swinging two blades, and her blood felt hot and rich. She felt herself smile, and noted how it made her opponent twitch in alarm. Good. The captain's attacks began to falter, and Kassandra sensed opportunity. The gladius swung towards her on a downstroke, and she parried the blow with ease, only realizing a moment too late that the attack had been a ruse, as the captain suddenly used the parry's momentum to pivot the direction of her blade. Kassandra leapt backwards, felt a sear across her belly and anger in her blood as she parried the next two strikes in quick succession. She caught the next attack with the edge of her sword, then relaxed just enough to bring her opponent in closer while drawing her slightly off balance. It was all the opening Kassandra needed to break through the captain's guard and drive the spear so deep into her belly that the blade disappeared entirely.
Then Kassandra felt it: the liquid thrill that ran down her spine every time she killed someone with the spear, a spark of satisfaction that tinted the edges of her vision red. It lasted as long as it took for her to pull the spear free of the bandit captain's belly, and then all that remained was a queasy feeling and the coppery smell of blood all over her hands.
She heard the sound of clapping, then. Loud and booming, it cracked in counterpoint to the bandit captain's wet gasps as she lay dying at Kassandra's feet.
The source of the clapping was a bearded, broad-shouldered man in a full set of armor, golden greaves and all. "That was a good show, girl," he said, drawing his sword and taking a step towards her.
Golden greaves, an iron sword, and a breastplate that cost more drachmae than Kassandra had ever earned working for Markos. Gear fit for a successful mercenary. This had to be Talos the Stone Fist.
"The people in Sami said I could find you by following the sound of the nearest fight. They weren't wrong. And your bounty will keep me in wine and whores for months."
Kassandra tightened her grip on the spear and turned to face him. Her right side stung and her chiton was cut and wet with blood. She wore no armor and had little but a broken spear and a cheap bronze sword. So she did what anyone with half a basket of sense would do when faced with a far more powerful opponent.
She ran.
~~
Talos might have had the upper hand in experience and equipment, but Kassandra had roamed this part of Kephallonia since she was a girl. She knew the crags and hollows of the Cursed Valley, and Artemis smiled upon her from behind a sliver of moon. As she sprinted on forest paths she didn't need light to find, she could near Talos crashing through the forest underbrush behind her. But then she heard Ikaros's hunting cry and a shouted curse, and then the crashing noises veered away and began to fade, and she kept running and climbing until she reached a sheltered grotto in a ravine formed by rock walls and falling water.
She knelt by the shadow-dark pools, took a deep breath, and listened hard over the sound of her heart pounding. Nothing but the musical trickle of water and the occasional flap of a great pair of wings circling somewhere overhead. She sent a whisper of thanks to Ikaros, and plunged her arms into icy water up to her elbows.
The darkness within the pooled water hid the blood that sloughed off her hands and forearms, and kept her from being completely sure she had washed it all away, if that was even possible. An eternity of scrubbing would be as futile as moving Sisyphos's boulder.
With a sigh, she unbuckled her swordbelt and untied the cord that held her chiton in place, casting it aside before stripping the garment up and over her head. The cut across her belly was clean and shallow, thank the gods, and only a handspan wide. If she could get it to stop bleeding, she might even avoid a visit to the physician.
She needed rest and food, and to mend her chiton, and sharpen the new gouges out of the edges of her blades, and then after that she needed to figure out how to kill Talos the Stone Fist without getting killed first.
Rest now. Stop bleeding. Wait till sunrise. Her hunter would be found in the light.
~~
For all his boasting about how easy Kassandra was to find, Talos wasn't hard to track down himself, and thus avoid, in the days after their encounter at the shipyard. Kassandra patched up her gear, let her wound get a good start at healing, and kept one step ahead of Talos by constantly staying on the move.
The Stone Fist proved to be a less than cunning hunter, preferring to stick to a patrol of sorts between Sami, Markos's vineyard, and her home to the south. His predictability extended to the evenings, where he spent his time drinking wine in a kapeleion near the Temple of Zeus before retiring to a rented room down by the docks.
She formed a plan. She'd climb the roof of the Temple of Zeus, and would wait until after the priestesses went home and the temple torches burned down low. Let Talos wander by after a night of wine and song. She'd put an arrow straight into his skull.
The highest roof of the temple was crowned with large decorative akroteria at both ends, which made for perfect cover later that night as she nocked an arrow and aimed at her target below. She inhaled, focused on the squeeze and thump of her own heartbeat, and when her hands reached the steady point between beats she let the arrow fly. The silvery bolt flew true, threading the needle of Talos's eye socket with a sodden thud.
But to her horror, the bastard didn't die.
"Kassandra!" he bellowed.
"That arrow suits you," she shouted from behind the akroterion. Let its heavy stone protect her while she gathered her wits and figured out a new plan.
"Come down here and face me, you daughter of a whore," he shouted. He was closer now, almost to the base of the temple's columns.
Her hands squeezed her bow until the wood began to creak. Her eyes narrowed, and she tossed her bow aside and stood up to full height. "Let me introduce you to Hades," she said, drawing both of her blades and beckoning him to join her.
She heard Talos climbing up the column to the first level of the roof, and once he clambered upon it, she took a step back, inviting him up to the second level where she stood. The arrow's fletching protruded from his eye socket grotesquely. She had no idea how he was still alive, much less able to climb to the roof of a temple. Perhaps Zeus was displeased at her choice of a venue.
To Hades with Zeus, and to Hades with Talos. Her anger was flowing now, crackling along her veins like golden sparks from a smith's hammer.
Talos suddenly leapt up to meet her, and at that moment her rage took over. She reared back and kicked him square in the chest with so much force that he flew off the roof entirely, his cry of surprise following him down over the edge.
She scrambled across the roof and peered down the side of the temple. Talos's body lay in a broken heap on the stones far below. Lights began to glow from torches being lit in the homes nearby. There wasn't much time if she wanted to claim Talos's purse—and his gear. She'd look damn good in a set of golden greaves...
~~
Kassandra set the heavy bundle down on her bed. She raised her arms and stretched as much as she could without worrying the healing cut at her belly. Her muscles ached with the remnants of last night's rage, but she grinned with satisfaction and more than a little wonder. Where in Tartaros had that kick come from? She'd certainly never done it before, but there's no way she'd forget how to do it now. Another arrow for her quiver of tricks.
She bent down and unwrapped the bundle, then laid its contents out across the rough woolen blanket that covered her bed. A full chestplate. Leather tassets. A set of bracers and greaves. And a fresh chiton made of fine white linen to wear underneath it all, the spoils she'd earned by defeating Talos the Stone Fist.
And it fit perfectly too, every piece of it, as she found after she put it all on and adjusted the various straps and buckles. She felt huge and powerful. She felt like a real—
"Misthios," Phoibe whispered from behind her.
Kassandra turned and smiled. "Little sneak," she said, then spread her arms. "How do I look?"
Phoibe's eyes were wide. "Like a hero sent by Zeus."
So she looked good enough to awe a child. Kassandra had to laugh in amusement at that. "Well, this hero is hungry. What say you and I run up to Markos's vineyard and rustle up something to eat?" She took Phoibe's hand in her own, and together they walked out of the hovel and up the path to Mount Ainos, and it was already shaping up to be a very fine day.
Part of the Elegiad. Go on to the next story...

Marvel Fans React to the WandaVision Finale
https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
This article contains spoilers for the WandaVision finale.
Please stand by.
In the season finale of Marvel’s Wanda Maximoff and Vision spinoff WandaVision, there were inevitable showdowns between two very badass witches and two surprisingly conversational synthezoids. Unanswered questions and tantalising post credits scenes lay ahead. But there was also a little disappointment in store for those fans who hoped there would be a major cameo appearance in the finale, or a possible entry point for the X-Men in the MCU.
We began the final episode right where we left off in the penultimate one, as Wanda and Agatha discovered the extent of each other’s powers. Agatha quickly revealed how easily she was able to absorb Wanda’s magic, which was inexorably amplified by Strucker’s Mind Stone experiments pre-Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Wanda soon realized that she was a bit out of her depth facing off against a witch with all the magic knowledge that comes with decades – perhaps centuries – of study.
Agatha seemed to be playing Wanda like a fiddle as she showed Wanda the true misery she had accidentally created for the residents of Westview, and delivered an ominous prophecy about Wanda’s future – the Scarlet Witch is apparently set to destroy the world.
As the battle continued, Wanda came to understand that she would have to let go of her perfect white picket fence life, even if it meant losing her family. She transformed into the vision she had seen when she encountered the Mind Stone, and fully became the Scarlet Witch, using the small amount of rune knowledge Agatha had coincidentally gifted her with in episode 8. Agatha was drained dry of magic, but given a small mercy in the end – she would just be imprisoned in her upbeat Agnes persona indefinitely. We suspect not forever, given the pair’s comics history.
Meanwhile, Vision was able to beat the Mind Stone-less version of himself by way of reason and philosophy. White Vision is clearly not immune to the charms of ponderous consideration. It’s their Achilles heel!
After Wanda said a sad goodbye to Vision, Billy and Tommy, and The Hex disintegrated, we got two post credits scenes setting up forthcoming Marvel projects. Monica Rambeau had a surprise visit from a Skrull who offered her an invite to space. It looks like she’ll be meeting Ben Mendelsohn’s Talos there in Captain Marvel 2 or Marvel’s Skrulls-centric series, Secret Invasion – whichever comes first.
Meanwhile, Wanda Maximoff had hidden herself away at a remote-but-scenic location to study up on the Darkhold and learn a thing or two about just how powerful she is. Mirroring the educational journey of Stephen Strange in 2016’s Doctor Strange, we saw her take astral form in WandaVision’s final moments and make contact with Billy and Tommy – who were seemingly crying out for her help somewhere in the wide multiverse. It appears the rumors were true: Wiccan and Speed (Julian Hilliard and Jett Klyne) will return in Doctor Strange 2.
Marvel fans, fueled by coffee and emotions, reacted to the events of the finale online…

🩸 BLOODFEST 🩸
Week One
Prompts: Rope, teeth, size, blood
Keywords: Rain, wicked
Tumblr media
Payment Plan
Male Vampire OC x GN Reader
Warnings: Blood, heavy gore, descriptions of violence, manipulation
This is a long one, folks. Get a snack and settle in.
~~
$3.78
The little black numbers on your phone screen could be innocuous enough. It’s a simple amount, small, maybe the price of a basic coffee or a quick snack at the gas station. It would be harmless, if it wasn’t the balance of your checking account.
With a noisy clatter, you toss your phone carelessly onto the counter, your head falling to your hands. At your feet, a quiet mewl.
Despondently, you look down at your cat, Sweet Pea. The cone around her neck, shaved hair and stitches on her front leg are the source of your current monetary dilemma. Somehow, she’d managed to slice herself open on an errant piece of balcony railing.
“Idiot,” you murmur, crouching low to give her a scratch. She purrs, oblivious to your name-calling. As your fingers glide through her soft, warm fur, the question festering in the back of your mind drifts to the forefront of your thoughts.
How are you going to make rent? It’s due today and you don’t get paid for another two weeks. You’ve never been late on a payment before. Maybe…. Maybe if you ask your landlord for an extension he’ll take pity on you?
You swallow the lump in your throat. Just the idea of speaking with him makes your palms sweaty. That innate fear, the knowledge that you’re not at the top of the food chain always pricks at the back of your neck in his presence. You try to avoid him at all costs.
You wonder if his other tenants feel the same.
With a deep sigh, you push to your feet and cross the room to retrieve your keys. First you must work. You definitely can’t miss a shift now.
Exiting your apartment, your keys rattle in the lock. After the click, you turn on your heel and crash straight into a solid chest.
“Oops!” a quiet voice exclaims, long fingers gripping your shoulders to keep you from tumbling backwards.
“Oh christ, I’m so sorry
Your words catch in your throat when your gaze lands on the face of Mr. Talo, your landlord. The fight to keep your expression passive ends in defeat as all the blood drains from your face.
Too quickly to be nonchalant, you step away from him, back colliding with your locked front door. No escape—
No, shut up, you’re acting insane, don’t upset him, CHILL OUT….
“Everything alright?” Mr. Talo asks in his soft, lilting voice, his slight accent catching at the ends of his words. You meet his eyes, iris bright blue and whites bloodshot—a sign of a well-fed vampire.
You allow yourself to relax minutely before responding, “Y-Yeah, I’m really sorry Mr. Talo—
“Oh no, no, please call me Sami. ‘Mr. Talo’ sounds like I’m much too old or something.” The corners of his lips twitch up in a gentle smile. You can tell he’s trying to keep his teeth hidden, but you can still see the very tips of white fangs poking out from under his top lip.
You force a breathy chuckle, gaze dropping to your shoes, then back up in time to watch his spidery fingers ruffle the white-blonde hair atop his head. The fluorescents above catch the stray strands, his pale locks nearly glowing under the light.
“Right, you must be off to work? I’ll leave you to it.” Sami turns to leave, then pauses to add, “Rent due today, I’m sure you’re aware.” Your heart stutters in your chest. You’d wanted more time to prepare your sob story….
“Uh, Mr—I mean, Sami. About rent….” The vampire turns to face you fully, eyebrows raised curiously. You swallow, throat suddenly dry. You continue, “I’m—my cat h-had an accident, I mean, she got hurt. I had to, you know, take her to the vet—stitches, she needed them, which…which you know, costs…costs money and—
“You can’t make rent this month.” he finishes for you. Your mouth opens, closes, opens again. He doesn’t sound upset. In fact, there’s a glint of something in his gaze, beyond the bloody sclera; something eager.
“Y-Yes. I’m sorry, is there…?” You trail off, forgetting what you wanted to ask. Sami is turned completely toward you now, attention fully focused on you, your face, your shoulders, your neck…. His hands, once resting in his pockets, now hang at his sides, long fingers twitching randomly.
“S-Sami?” you breathe, jaw clenching. Your own fingers jump, ready to reach for your keys, but then Sami blinks, shoulders relaxing, hands quickly returning to pockets like he hadn’t even moved at all.
“There are payment plans. I’d be willing to extend that courtesy to you as you’ve never been late before.” He speaks casually, like everything that just transpired was completely normal. You have no choice but to follow along, the heavy feeling in your chest lifting slightly when you comprehend what he’s saying.
Sami pauses, lightly scrapes his fangs across his bottom lip—your hand involuntarily clenches on your keys—before he speaks again, softer than before, “Or…there is one more option. An alternative form of payment—no, not that,” he adds with an awkward chuckle when your eyes bug out of your head. “Though some would consider it equally as—erm—unwholesome.”
“W-What do you mean?” Your voice breaks a little with your question and you wonder how much more your poor nerves can handle. Sami takes a half step closer, hands leaving his pockets, fingers entwining.
“Blood,” he states simply. You stare. His expression doesn’t change. You blink several times in quick succession when you realize he’s serious. Sami nods, “For one month, I will forgive rent in exchange for one, uh…feeding.”
Words elude you. He’s serious! Has he done this before with other tenants? He must have, with how boldly he speaks. Is this legal? It can’t be, can it?
You realize you’ve said nothing for too long a stretch. Sami waits expectantly. Again, you must swallow before you speak.
“Um. Uh…can I think about it?” His eyes crinkle at the corners, more of those wicked fangs revealed with his grin.
“Certainly. I’ll touch base tomorrow?” You can only nod weakly in response. “Great! Talk soon.”
And with that, he strides away down the hall before disappearing into the stairwell. The loud bang of the heavy door shocks you out of your stunned silence and you spin around, hurrying in the opposite direction.
~~
Payment plan. You’re going to do the payment plan. That’s the least insane option.
But one month no rent…. That could be huge for you, especially with these vet bills you still have to pay.
No, absolutely not. It’s madness to even consider it! What if he gets carried away, or whatever? Rent isn’t worth your life.
But…the burden and stress this could relieve…. It’s just one time. He’s obviously done this before. He must know what he’s doing.
No, no, no. This is ridiculous. What is the matter with you?
You retrieve your phone, ready to text Mr. Talo—Sami—your answer. You hesitate, fingers hovering over your phone screen.
You’ve lost your god damn mind.
~~
Nervously, you check the clock on the stove. Almost 7PM. Soon.
Wringing your hands, you look over the assigned “to-do” list, mentally checking off completed tasks.
It’s Friday. You have the weekend off to…recover, as instructed. You’d eaten iron-rich foods all week, drank the requisite amount of water, taken all the B vitamins. You’d meal prepped for the weekend, ensuring all your meals are low effort and ready to eat.
Chewing on your lip, you frown, considering. Maybe you should—
A quiet knock at your door makes you jolt, your pen tumbling to the ground with a clatter. Heart hammering, you cross the room, smoothing your shirt and straightening the rug. Oh god, you’ve lost it, this is crazy, but it’s too late to back out….
The lock clicks and the door swings open with a little squeak. There stands Sami, wearing khakis, a pale blue button up that matches his eyes, and a kind smile. In his hand is a small, black satchel.
“Uh, hi. Hi, um, come in,” you stammer, scooting out of the way as Sami steps into your apartment. He gives your space a quick once over before turning to you.
“You completed the list I gave you?” You nod, glancing down at your feet, then back up. He smiles wider in approval and your gaze is drawn to white points. Christ, they’re huge….
“Excellent. Shall we get started? I won’t take up much more of your evening.” You tense, giving him one more stiff half nod.
Sami motions to the sofa before setting the little bag on your counter. The slide of its zipper fills the awkward silence—you should have put on music—and he rustles around inside. In a neat row, he positions gauze, a bottle of sterile water, medical tape, and a blue surgical rag. Your heart rate increases with each item he produces until it pounds furiously against your ribs.
Satisfied with the arrangement, Sami moves to sit next to you on the sofa. That same, understanding half smile decorates his wan features. Hands like ice find your face, cradling it, and you flinch at the chill. He gazes into your wide, panicked eyes, making sure you’re looking at him before speaking.
The whites of his eyes are almost completely visible, barely any red. He’s hungry—
“It is imperative you don’t struggle. Do you understand?” You blink and swallow hard, your throat like fucking sandpaper. “Repeat back what I said.”
“I-I shouldn’t s-struggle,” you whisper.
“You mustn’t.”
“I won’t.”
“Good. Now breathe. Big, deep breaths.” You do as he says, your body working on autopilot as your mind whirs with terror. “Just like that. You’re doing well! Your heart rate is slowing.”
You falter at that, “W-What? How…?”
Sami taps his ear with a slender finger, “I can hear it.” You can’t stop the flush from heating your cheeks. He knows you’ve been distressed this entire time. Embarrassing.
That eager glint returns to his eyes. With a light chuckle, Sami moves one of his hands to your shoulder, gripping just tight enough to hold you in place. Cool fingers grasp your jaw, tilting your head to the side and back, exposing your neck. He scoots closer, invading your space, pulling you close, intimately close.
You choke on a breath, then suck in air quickly, willing your tense body to relax. Don’t struggle, don’t struggle—
Sami inhales slowly, deeply, and your cheeks burn when you realize he’s smelling you. A quiet squeak leaves your mouth when his lips ghost across your throat. In your lap, your sweaty hands curl into fists.
The fingers on your jaw move to the back of your neck just as you feel the sharp points of his fangs setting themselves against your flesh. That prickling sensation returns, stomach lurching, body urging you to flee, fucking run idiot, but you reign in your panic, a mantra of ‘Don’t struggle, don’t struggle,’ playing on repeat in your brain.
Piercing, twin stings make you gasp, your hands flying up to grip the front of his shirt Warmth trickles down your throat—summer rain on your skin—before soaking into the neckline of your top. Sami quickly seals his lips around your leaking wounds.
You feel gentle suction—he’s drinking—and you can’t help the tiny whimper that escapes you when he groans, his chest vibrating against your palms with the sound. The hand on your shoulder squeezes hard, just shy of being painful. You focus on your labored breathing and force yourself to still, to be quiet.
Sami emits a muffled, gurgly moan and pulls you flush against him, wrapping an arm around your body. Your toes curl in your socks. At the same time, you notice your grip on his clothing growing slack. Your fingers are weakening, your head fuzzy, little spots forming in your vision, your breath coming in ragged pants….
With a strained growl, Sami rips his teeth out of you. His lips are millimeters from yours, so close you can feel hot, metallic breath washing over your face. Icy hands caress your face, stroke your neck, dip down to your collarbone, he’s so close, what is he—
Hastily, you are slammed back into the arm of the couch. Sami stands so quickly you don’t see him move. Dazed, you watch him stagger and clutch his head, bowed shoulders rising and falling rapidly with his gasping breaths.
You don’t have to strength to move much, nor even the wit to speak, so you just stare at his back. The rapid heaving of his shoulders gradually slows as he stands upright. His mouth he wipes on his shirtsleeve, brilliant scarlet staining the pale fabric.
Seeming to come back to himself, he retrieves the items he’d placed on the counter. Finally, he turns to face you, revealing the startling visage of a freshly fed vampire. You’d react if you weren’t so dazed, thoughts spinning with your vision.
The whites of his eyes are completely red, not a dot of ivory to be seen. His pupils are blown so wide you can’t make out any blue. Crimson stains his teeth, a paint brush smear across his cheek where he’d wiped it away.
Sami clears his throat and kneels on the sofa between your trembling knees. One hand returns to the back of your neck as the other presses gauze to your wounds.
“You alright?” he asks, his usually soft voice now quite husky. You blink to right the world and nod once again. Fatigue pulls at your consciousness, tries to force your eyelids shut. “These will heal,” he continues, pushing against your bite marks for emphasis, “By tomorrow, most likely. Make sure you have several glasses of water. Tonight, before you sleep, I mean. Continue the vitamins.”
Dumbly, you gaze up at him. He doesn’t meet your stare, instead rips pieces of tape to secure the gauze to your skin. Next, he cleans away the remainder of your spilled blood with the surgical rag and sterile water.
Unceremoniously, he stands, retrieves a glass of water from your kitchen, sets it on your coffee table. “Get some rest,” he commands, leaving through your front door without a backward glance.
The lock clicking shut seems to trigger something within you and you slump, rolling onto your side. It’s over. You’re okay.
Well, okay enough. Maybe.
You don’t have the sense to ponder the strange details of what had just occurred. It only takes seconds for unconsciousness to claim you.
~~
The weekend passes in a blur of dizziness and fatigue. You hardly leave your bed. When Monday rolls around, you’re still so worn out you must phone in sick to work.
Sami checked on you the following day with a simple text: ‘How are you feeling?’ Other than that, you haven’t seen hide or hair of him all week. Probably for the best, you decide. Only awkwardness could occur after spending such an odd evening together.
Friday evening again, and rain pummels the windows, wind gusts rattling the balcony railing. You relax in bed, zoning in and out, not even really watching what plays on television, instead focused on the light and shadows thrown across your body from the changing images. Absently, your fingers scratch between Sweet Pea’s smooth ears…. Soft and warm….
Drip. Drip. Drip, drip, drip.
Your heavy eyes crack open. Darkness in your apartment. The television is off. When had you fallen asleep?
Drip. Drip. Drip.
The rain has stopped. Outside, the air is calm. In your sleepy state, you finally register the dripping. Oh no, a leak?
You push up onto your elbow. Sweet Pea is gone, off to perform her nightly rounds, no doubt.
You roll onto your other side and lay eyes on the horrific figure looming at your bedside.
A soaked, torn shirt reveals the mangled flesh underneath; gaping abdominal gash, bubbly fat, shredded muscle, and oozing guts all visible and leaking onto your floor. The dripping. Not a leak after all.
Higher up is a gaunt face, white blonde hair wet from the recent storm. It is a face you recognize.
Mr. Talo—Sami.
A rain-dampened hand slaps over your mouth to silence your blood-curdling shriek. Another gathers up your wrists, pinning them to the bed. Knees plant themselves on either side of your hips, body weight on your legs stopping your thrashing before it’s even begun.
He stares wildly down at you—how is moving—as warm blood spills from evisceration, soaking your clothes, your sheets. “I’m sorry,” he murmurs, gentle voice strained and quivering.
You can do nothing against his strength. You can’t twist, can’t buck, can’t thrash, can’t call for help—helpless, you’re utterly helpless.
More gore pours out of him when he leans down, wet squelching accompanying the movement. Again, he murmurs, “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” before lips find your neck.
A soft kiss is pressed to your skin—another apology—before wicked fangs sink into flesh. The force of your muffled scream burns your throat, but the palm suffocating you keeps it from carrying far. You recognize the sucking pressure, the noisy groan, the dizzying loss of blood coming much faster this time.
Your teeth dig into his palm, copper spilling into your own mouth, but Sami isn’t fazed, doesn’t let up. Distantly, you remember what he’d said about struggle, but the terror surging through you keeps any rational thought from sticking
Now you’re just an animal, prey squirming in the grip of a predator, desperate to save your own life. Above you, Sami growls as you writhe. It’s a feral sound resonating from deep within his chest that sends your heart into a frenzy.
There’s a crunch, more pressure in your neck, then a sick tearing sound near your ear. With a final, wet snap, Sami sits upright, flesh dangling from his terrible teeth.
You stare, shocked. You can’t believe what you’re seeing. Your fingers scurry up to your neck, recoiling when you feel the wet mess that was once your throat—the throat now clutched in Sami’s jaws.
A cough bubbles out of your mouth, blood splattering across your face, little rain drops, pitter-patter. More wets your hair, joins the puddle forming on your mattress.
Sami watches blankly, observes you drowning in your bed without so much as a twitch of his features. His eyes are crimson once more, his chest heaving. Lower, the torn shirt reveals smooth, unmarred skin, his flesh healed by your life essence.
Your bloodied hands fall away from your spurting neck, landing useless on soaked sheets. The room is darker now, growing darker still. That’s right, the television had been turned off. Good, you don’t want to waste electricity….
Have you ever been so tired?
Sami lifts his hand. He frowns at the teeth marks in his palm. Unhealed?
The last expression you see cross his face is one of terrified comprehension, the last thing you hear a breathless, “Oh no….”
Your eyes drift shut.

Sami Rajala viihtyy kotona ja kahviloissa (Akaan Seutu)
Lue alkuperäinen artikkeli tältä sivulta: this site
Sami Rajala tekee kotona usein töitä mutta myös rentoutuu. Rajalan perhe on ollut tyytyväinen päätökseen jäädä asumaan Akaaseen.
Ensimmäisen kauden valtuutettu Sami Rajala (kok) muutti perheineen nelisen vuotta sitten Vantaalta Akaaseen, koska Akaan kaupunki vastasi ensimmäisenä perheen vuokra-asuntokyselyyn. Rajalat olivat tuolloin etsimässä asuntoa Tampereen lähiseudulta. Perheen ei tarvinnut lähteä merta edemmäs, sillä mieleinen koti löytyikin Junkkarista Toijalasta.
–  Koti on minun lempipaikkani.
Riihimäeltä syntyisin oleva Rajala on Hyvinkäällä toimivan suunnittelutoimisto Deemec Oy:n toimitusjohtaja.
