The great mufassir Imam Muhammad ibn Jarir al-Tabari [rahimahullah] included the following statement in his tafseer of surah at-Tawbah:
… Hajjaj ibn Abi Zaynab said: I heard Abu 'Uthman say: In my opinion, there is not a single aayah in the Qur'an that gives more hope for this ummah than Allah's statement:
🌺 ❛And there are others who have acknowledged their sins. They had mixed a righteous deed with another that was bad. Perhaps Allah will turn to them in forgiveness. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.❜ (Q9:102)

Can't Get Someone Off Your Mind?
But what about the cure when the situation has reached al-manzilah (ie: this level)? The cure is that firstly, he remembers that love for Allah, The Most High, comes before everything else and he turns his heart to loving Allah. And from the things which strengthen the love for Allah in the heart of the servant is continually remembering Allah, ومما يقوي محبة الله في قلب العبد دوام ذكر الله reciting (or reading) the Qurʾān a lot, وكثرة قراءة القرآن doing lots of al-aʿmāl al-ṣāliḥah (ie: good deeds), وكثرة الأعمال الصالحة and staying away from shahwāt al-nafs wa hawá al-nafs (ie: the cravings and desires of the soul). Secondly, that he stays away somewhat from the one whom love for him in his heart reached such a level. He stays away from him somewhat and occupies himself with something else. If that does not help, then he stays away from him. Lastly, he cuts ties with him until this love calms down, this enthusiasm (of emotion) is removed and becomes tranquil, نهائياً يقطع الصلة بينه وبينه حتى يهدأ هذا الحب وتزول هذه الحرارة وتسكن and then his love returns to the normal love. Because of numerous complaints about this, I wanted to bring attention to not letting love for the sake of Allah increase so that it turns into loving (someone ) along with Allah because this is a type of shirk in love. Abū Dharr رضي اللّٰه عنه said: “My khalīl (intimate friend, i.e. Rasūlullāh) ﷺ commanded me with seven [matters]:
1. He commanded me to love the poor and draw close to them
2. He commanded me to look at those who are below me and not to look at those who are above me (in terms of worldly matters)
3. He commanded me to maintain the ties of kinship even if it seeks to draw away
4. He commanded me not to ask anyone for anything
5. He commanded me to speak the truth even if it is bitter
6. He commanded me not to fear the blame of the blamers
7. He commanded me to increase in saying: لا حول ولا قوة إلا باللّٰه , for this is a treasure under the Throne [of Allāh].”

You are a Sinner, but you see yourself as a Muḥsin (Good doer)
You are a Jāhil (Ignorant), but you see yourself as an 'Ālim (Scholar)

"As much as you fix your salaah, your life will be fixed. If you are wondering why there is a delay in your sustenance (rizq'), in your marriage, in your work, in your health — look into your salaah. Are you delaying it?"

The fear of delaying salaah, fear of not observing proper hijaab, fear of excessive speech that would transgress to gheebah, and so forth are actually acts of worship in the sight of Allah.
So do not be embarrassed with our family, friends, and society about worrying regarding these spiritual matters. Sheikh Sa'ad ibn Nasir al-Shithri hafidhahullah said the following (abbreviated):
Amongst the crucial ‘ibaadat of the heart is the feeling of {khawf | fear} of [disobeying] Allah. There are many aayat that focus on its discussion [and one of them is]:
🌺 ❛But for him who {khawf | fears} the standing before his Rabb, there will be two Gardens [in Jannah].❜ 【Surah Ar-Rahman 55:46】
However in reality, we’re more fearful of Allah’s creatures [than Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala]. Whereas, [the one who] fears Allah [will attain] a high station and a great reward. Allah says:
🌺 ❛Their reward with their Rabb is Eden Paradise, underneath which rivers flow, They will abide therein forever, Allah will be pleased with them, and they with Him…❜ 【Surah al-Bayyinah 98:8】
For whom is the reward?
🌺 ❛…That is for him who fears his Rabb.❜ 【Surah al-Bayyinah 98:8】
(Translated from ShahihFiqih)
May Allah make us among those who fear to disobey Him in public and in private, and who prioritize in chasing after the rida of The Creator than the praises of His creations.

Al-Imām Ibnul-Qayyim, may Allāh have mercy upon him said:
“The secret and reality of tawakkul is the heart’s reliance upon Allāh alone, so taking the [permissable] means does not harm it (i.e. tawakkul) whilst the heart is free from relying upon these means and becoming dependant upon them.”
[Al-Fawāid, pg.126]
