i don't think it's necessarily the ruling opinion, but there are no doubt some people upset with the end of the Monster Association arc and how everything was "fixed" with time travel. i would like to express the level on which i disagree with this sentiment.
this dislike of the arc's conclusion likely stems from the general dislike of "it's okay, we can just go back in time!" and "it was all a dream :)" style endings, specifically the idea that these endings, under any circumstances, are cop outs. i disagree. if One Punch Man ended there, with saitama travelling back in time to stop everyone's deaths and his fight with garou, i would be immensely dissatisfied with the ending. i think that would be fair. however, vitally, it does not. those events are only the conclusion to a single arc. it brings us to a similar situation as the ending of the lord boros arc, with a city destroyed but none of the important characters dead. therefore, i would argue that such a conclusion to an arc is par for the course for One Punch Man. but there is also the vital matter of "it was all a dream :)" situations and how, in my opinion, while often used as cop outs, they are not inherently so, and dogmatic insistence against them is detrimental to good writing. having every possibility on the table is important in order to develop a plot in the way best suited to it - it's simply lazy writing which misuses these possibilities.
the vital question here is: was the time travel ending of the Monster Association arc a cop out? no, it was not. in my opinion, the events which were reversed could nearly be considered expositional. the cosmic garou vs saitama fight and the events which caused it tell us a heck of a lot about the characters. that garou retains his humanity even after becoming monsterised - when he sees takeo dead, he realises that his actions have not led the world in the direction he hoped, which was always a fairer existence. (he's really not a bad guy at all.) what saitama is capable of - man caused untold destruction during this fight without much of a care, including nearly destroying the earth if not for blast and co; on the technical side, we are shown that his power increases exponentially in response to another being even beginning to approach his level of power, leading him to easily beat a puppet channeling the power of literal GOD. that saitama actually cares a heck of a lot about genos, and clings to him for his sense of humanity, which he is barely hanging onto. it also gives us a taste of god's power, for future reference. the only reason i don't consider it expositional - that is, a "what if" scenario purely for the audience's benefit, which fleshes out the characters under otherwise inaccessible circumstances - is that genos remembers. therefore, these events actually do impact the plot through him. (there's a chance that blast and co also know, which would also affect the plot, but i'm not sure.)
the ever-increasing stakes are vital. we're still within the time frame of shibabawa's great prophecy of a god-level threat. at first, we thought it was lord boros, then garou, and now it's looking like the god-level threat might literally be god. whose power we have gotten a taste of, thanks to the cosmic garou fight. things are very much not hunky dory. there is still plenty of opportunity for things to go terribly wrong, even if it didn't happen this time. especially now that we know that saitama is barely clinging to his humanity. the deaths of everyone he knew affected him for sure, but particular emphasis was placed on the death of genos, because he's saitama's hinge to humanity. (if you deny this, i will be forced to call into question your reading skills.) this ups the stakes in a unique way. before, the concept of genos' death carried far less weight. genos fans would be upset, naturally, and saitama would be pretty sad, because it was clear before this arc that he cared at least somewhat about genos. but now? we know how saitama will react to genos' death. and it's not in a sane manner. genos' death now carries with it the stakes of the earth potentially being destroyed and saitama losing his sanity. at least personally, i will look upon any close calls genos has in future with greater anxiety. this newfound knowledge that we have only gives more ground to the idea that the final enemy might be saitama. either the final enemy of the earth, if he turns into a villain (quite possibly due to losing his mind), or the final enemy of saitama himself, as he battles his depression and struggles to stay in touch with his humanity.
the time travel ending was not a waste, nor a cop out. i encourage you to look at the bigger picture instead of allowing your instinctive reaction of "time travel clutch bad" to inform your opinions. there is still the problem of time travel now being on the table as a solution, but this can be avoided in various ways. for example, the existence of the alternate universe where everyone died and saitama fought cosmic garou as a parallel universe created by time travel, therefore not really fixing the problem, but merely rerouting it. or having time travel somehow taken off the table as a possibility. for example (this is just conjecture and not supported by canon), if god dies, perhaps time can no longer be manipulated, and saitama will have to make a decision between destroying god or saving everyone but letting god live and continue to manipulate events, a decision which he can never bypass because he ends up at the same crossroads no matter which path he takes leading up to that. i understand the concern, and am somewhat concerned myself, but i trust ONE and Murata not to end the series in a dissatisfying way. also, i think it adds another level of interest, even. if saitama's power is so great that he can manipulate time, that he can do basically anything, then hitting a single roadblock which he cannot bypass regardless of his power would undoubtedly have incredibly interesting effects on him psychologically. he could be glad to not be all-powerful, and have to actually fight for something for once, or - much like the events with cosmic garou - he might realise that finding a difficult opponent (in the form of a fighter or an impossible decision) at the expense of the people he cares about doesn't actually make him happy or excited. that perhaps he should have turned his search for feeling and a reason to live elsewhere, beyond fighting, a long time ago. idk 🤷‍♂️

Mind if i'm curious about your prediction of the upcoming Flashy Sonic vs Empty Void fight? Like what's gonna happen to the ninja duo before Blast and Saitama (and Manako) arrive?
Gon' be a long one.
I tend to stare off into space at work a lot and come up with predictions all the time. So here are a few.
First of all, Flash will not measure up. Flash is the best, but he's not the ultimate ninja who basically absorbs and utilizes every strong being he touches. It's already obvious that Flash will be overwhelmed. And Void is just going to backhand anyone who tries to interfere.
When it comes to Saitama and Blast, I've already expressed concern that Saitama might not be able to beat him, because he doesn't seem to exist as one unit. Boros could be defeated because even though he could regenerate, he was only one physical being and was hit hard enough to destroy his body. Not really sure if that applies to Void. And Blast? I think Void has healed himself to the point of adapting to whatever Blast can cook.
So that leaves Sonic and the bros. And I will continue to call them bros until further notice. Firstly, I believe Wind and Flame are still monsters, just hiding it from the other ninjas for fear of being killed. What I'm guessing is that they didn't become monsters to beat Flash and cheat, but to make their bodies invulnerable to being absorbed by Void. That's why they wanted Sonic to be a monster too, so he could be safe. Wind and Flame will be cut loose, and will attack Void with their monster powers.
(I only think they're still monsters based on the venomous webs Wind made, seeing as he is a spider based monster)
Void will try and absorb Flash. Obviously he sent his weakest 'heavenly party' out to 'kill' him but that would have never happened. This is why Wind and Flame were after Flash, because they didn't want him to be absorbed and Void gain all his power. Un-friggin-stoppable. The end of the world.
I think....Sonic might be the one to defeat Void. Maybe something will happen when he sees Flash about to die, and he just snaps and goes full limit breaker lol
There's this part of me that keeps thinking...protecting Flash is more important than beating Saitama. Sonic doesn't know his full power yet, he just thinks he does by obsessing over his crush, Saitama. I never really found it serious, especially since he acts the same with Flash, but he doesn't get a bloody nose with Saitama. There is something else going on there.
OR, the slapstick will continue and Saitama will karate chop Void into the dirt. Then he'll comment on how gross the fight was, and walk away like the joke demands.
Anyhoo, that's my thought process 👍

Reasons to love OPM & little tidbits #4
Small characterization details that are easy to miss ep4:
Tumblr media
Saitama respects not strenght, but strenght of character & Saitama's empathy
Rewatching Saitama vs Boros fight because it's so goddamn good, made me think about what was it in Boros that Saitama respected. Besides the obvious.
And it dawned to me, that it was never his strenght nor the similarities of their circumstances no.
"You're still conscious? You really are strong."
It was that unwavering willpower and determination to not only travel 20 years to find a good fight despite being bored, but also to stay up through all the pain he must've been in after taking Serious punch to remain conscious, just to conclude the fight they had and acknowldge his opponent. A fight he just lost too.
The willpower to fight for his ideals and dreams 'till his dying breath and staying true to oneself.
Tumblr media
That's why, it hurt Saitama even more to blow out the torch that was Boros' existence. It felt like he was snuffing out his own core ideals.
To never give up on his ideals and dreams no matter how much it hurts and never give in.
If he gave up, he wouldn't not just be a hero no, he would not be alive.
That's why he tried to lie and spare Boros dignity. And pretend that his willpower to see his ideals through weren't just for naught because he met an immovable object that happened to be himself. He wanted to tell him that yes, it was a real fight, even if he lost the battle.
That Boros could have died with a smile on his face, not from satisfaction of getting a good fight.
But from satisfaction of staying true to himself and never giving up. Never wavering from his ideals.
Because Saitama himself, feels like he cannot stay true to his ideals of being a hero.
A saviour, not a killer.
Boros lost. But Saitama wanted him to win.

Web. #92 and 93 are the best chapters in the entire One Punch Man Franchise:
Web. 92 and 93 are the best chapters in the entire series, webcomic or manga (even the manga Drive Knight conspiracy in Chapter #119 isn't quite on that level). Nothing, not the Boros fight, not the Limiter, not God and Homeless... not even Webcomic Saitama vs Garou, as awe inspiring as it was... reaches the philosophical, ideological, moral, and thematic pinnacle of Garou and Saitama's debate.
Tumblr media
Garou lays out his entire ideology, how heroes cannot save humanity from themselves, that evil and corruption will continue no matter how strong, heroic, or brave the heroes are, legitimately breaking down and deconstructing the entire idea of "heroes saving the world" and asks Saitama how can he possibly carry the heavy moral burden that Garou alone sees and carries.
Tumblr media
And how does Saitama answer? He refuses to. He cannot, will not, take responsibility for all of humanity, he'll be a hero whenever he feels like it. Any other hero would have fallen for the bait and tried to argue that "No, we really are saving the world" and ultimately failed to adequately prove Garou wrong. But not Saitama.
Tumblr media
Garou, perhaps rightly, is horrified by Saitama's simple and utter rejection of "trying to save the world" when he has the all the physical power in the world. He berates Saitama for daring to call himself a hero with such a nonsense and selfish philosophy... and outs himself to Saitama, who sees instantly that Garou, deep down, believed in the very heroic ideal he castigated every other hero in the world for their hypocrisy towards.
Tumblr media
To which Saitama flips it on Garou, outing Garou as a half assed hero wannabe and hypocrite who lacked the conviction to save the world as hero. Garou was doomed to fail from the start, first because Saitama, a random nobody hero as a hobby, and second because Garou was too weak, both mind and body. Garou already knew that even a true hero, whether Saitama or himself, could never fully save the world...so never dared try.
Tumblr media
Leaving Garou a dead man walking, with no purpose or reason to go on living... until Tareo cried out for him to live on.

I never even noticed until rewatching but the parallels between boros vs saitama and saitama's dream of fighting the subterraneans oh my god.. Using the exact same run cycle of growing excitement, the exact same positions, the exact same hopeful soundtrack, the exact same heartbeat sound effect to show how exhilarated boros was to meet his match

If Y/n and Mario were in One Punch Man Book Cover
Tumblr media
This is a Book Cover of how Y/n aka SMG5, Mario and Luigi end up in the world of One Punch Man along with the Caped Baldy himself, Saitama aka One Punch Man.
How this happened is when Y/n and Mario were just hanging out until they encountered a couple of monsters that beaten them both up in a near death experience as they both tried to fight back, but they were too weak to defeat them.
However, just as they are about to die at the hands of the monsters, they were both saved by a caped baldy that take out the two monsters with just one punch.
That caused the comedic duo to train themselves to the bone by doing 100 push-ups, sit-ups, squats, and do a 10 kilometer run every single day as they both attempted to do Saitama's intense training regimen to become just as strong as him.
Eventually, the two of them managed to achieve the power they've been seeking and had become just as strong as Saitama as they both started saving people from whatever kind of threat that lurk around Creation City.
Then one day when they saved Luigi from a monster that tried to steal his stuff, Y/n and Mario saved him with their newfound strength and Luigi begged them to teach him on how to be strong like them, which took some convincing to teach him on how to be strong like them and eventually Luigi got the same treatment and became strong like them and calls himself, One Jump Man.
Then suddenly, the three of them got sucked into an inter-dimensional portal created by the Number One hero known as Blast and found themselves in the world of One Punch Man.
So then, the three of them decided to live in a separate apartment in City Z, which is right next to Saitama's Apartment and eventually the caped baldy became fast friends with the trio and worked together to fight monsters to protect the people around them and make it to the nearest sales at the supermarket.
Soon after they defeated some monsters at a place called House of Evolution and joined an organization known as the Hero Association, where they work for them to save the innocent from the wicked and perform some heroic duties to rise up to the big leagues to become S Class Heroes.
They even managed to meet other heroes in the Hero Association like Saitama's official disciple, Genos aka the Demon Cyborg, King, Flashy Flash, Child Emperor, Silver Fang, Mumen Rider, Hellish Blizzard, Terrible Tornado, Atomic Samurai, etc.
Eventually, the three of them including Saitama started taking on bigger threats like dealing with Boros the Dominator of the Universe, the Monster Association, and the Hero Hunter, Garou.
Not to mention that after gaining some popularity as heroes that somehow got the attention of other heroes like Hellish Blizzard and her group called the Blizzard Bunch that tried to get Y/n, Mario, Luigi and Saitama to join her group (reminding of a certain someone from Inkopolis that had the same motive to make Y/n and Mario join a gang because of their creative skills) or when Flashy Flash tried to asking Y/n, Mario and Saitama to look for a certain monster and become his disciple, which also resulted in slamming the door in his face and not remembering his name or when they soon found OPM versions of the Nintendo characters including a DBZ version of Shaggy that became fast friends with the gang after a fighting tournament along with dealing with a more Dangerous version of Waluigi.
What kind of adventure will the gang face off next as the Heroes that Nobody Ever Knows.
This is based on the One Punch Man Series as well as the video game, One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody Knows and the One Punch Man Mashed Parodies, One Jump Man and One Jump Man Vs. Shaggy Ball Z.

A theory about Saitama's powers
Tbh, I've always thought the physics behind Saitama's feats doesn't make much sense. Most of the time, I've handwaved it by artistic license/rule of cool, or that it's depicted and intended to be a gag, but with 166 and so on, I don't that's actually the case. And we did kinda get hints of that early on. And the reason why we don't fully understand it because I don't think Saitama fully realizes the sheer extent of his powers himself. Heck, I'm pretty sure the guy still believes he got strong bc of his workout, and he honestly doesn't know enough to give a different answer. I propose that Saitama's actual power isn't overwhelming strength or speed.
It's bending reality.
I think he deploys it rather subconsciously, and to an extent, he does have some? Kind of awareness that what he Desires To Be, It Will Be fuelled greatly by how strong his willpower is. It only gets trumped hy someone of equal or stronger willpower. So what gives that prompted this idea?
1. His clothes
Yeah, his hero suit specifically. I'm a lil wary using anime canon and fit it to manga canon, but considering ONE wrote some of the OVAs including this one, I'll take it as a fact that it can be part of manga continuity. Simply put: Saitama deeply cares about his hero suit as it represents him as a hero - indeed, especially treasured as it was created by someone who believes him to be one. That's why no matter how much powerful attacks he's tanking, his suit more or less gets away intact, if a lil damaged on occasion. As long as he considers it worth protecting, nothing terrible can befall it.
Until 167, where his usually unshakeable faith in his own heroism gets shaken to its firm foundations, and now we see his suit shred irreparably by mere martial arts alone despite managing to survive power that could destroy the earth and travelling at speeds faster than light, except for the one holding unto the core — the only remains of the person who believed that the work he does matters. The fact it was redrawn to include the glove means the metaphor is 100% intentional.
2. The people on the receiving end of his punches
No creature on earth can survive even the lightest of Saitama's punches, except for the ridiculously strong — or he has little to no intention of killing you.
The most obvious instance is Saitama vs. Genos. Any other creature on the receiving end of that punch turns into ludicrous gibs - or in Genos's case, a thousand pieces. But somehow despite just stopping short of Genos's face, he comes away unharmed, while the mountain and atmosphere behind him are split into two. Compare it to Boros, who at the end of the fight never really had that punch land on him, but was killed instead by the shockwaves — at a greater distance than Genos too. Sure, they're two different punches in terms of strength, but it doesn't change the fact that Saitama never had the intention to harm a hair on Genos's head whereas finished Boros then and there to keep him from destroying earth.
Several other instances are whenever he subdues human opponents. He never kills a human being, no matter how fatal his punches should be to them. If Saitama does not intend the attack to be fatal, then it won't be.
But heck, 166 definitely has Saitama going for the kill with his Serious Punch that can destroy the earth. But Garou still lived. Was he holding back?
Hell no. It wasn't until he calmed down a lil bit did he start holding back, but that punch was definitely thrown with the intent to kill. Garou just happened to be nearly as stromg as Saitama at that point that he could negate that desire. Saitama's later behavior indicates his willpower is greatly invested into a.) beating the ever living shit out of Garou and b.) protect the core at all costs. A desire waaaay more intense than Garou's desire to beat him.
3. The ludicrous physics behind his punches. Or just everything about Saitama
Ok, maybe this is the weakest point there is considering any character who isn't Saitama doesn't have any sort of realistic physics behind their feats either! Science is greatly taken for granted in this manga. But either way, it still doesn't make sense that Saitama with four fingers was able to shred the entire moon's surface. Unless he desired it to. I have a hard time explaining this. But to put simply.
Nothing about Saitama physiologically is human. None. The power he generates would require metabolism on insane levels, eating large amounts of food or exygen or even sleep. Heck even Genos has a sleep mode despite having a nuclear reactor for a core because his brain is human, and even Tatsumaki needs to rest after expending massive amounts of power. Saitama does not. Saitama has no real need to eat, sleep, shit, or even breath, considering this guy is literally in space, inhaling and exhaling Io's toxic atmo while no worse for wear. It's likely every time he does do these things, it's to maintain his sanity. Because ngl, addressing these needs is still a fundamental part of being human. Not having a need to would drive anyone crazy.
Tl ; dr: If he wants it to be, it will be.
So why does Saitama still stick with kicks and punches and overwhelming speed and strength despite the sheer potential of his reality bendibg powers that is he arguably explores more, can actually do more? Nostly because I think he doesn't fully understand it. Another is that he desires to be overwhelmingly strong and fast. If he desire to have psychic powers, I think he would have them. But since he's content with what he is, his powers stay that way.

A quick summary of OPM vs Goku
This battle isn't anywhere near close. I've heard people say that "Goku has the powers of a god!". So did cosmic Garou, and he got single handedly (literally) defeated by Saitama, while still holding Tareo's promise. Let's say that Goku, for some unexplained reason, killed Genos. Goku is gone, vaporized. OPM has never gone full power to defeat an opponent, whereas Goku frequently has to. OPM killed Boros easily, a being with great power, and yet saitama two shotted him, despite one of the shots not even hitting directly. TLDR; Saitama's whole gimmick is he doesn't have limits. Goku wouldn't pose much of a challenge. ------------------ Edit 1: Replying to @Ghoul~~Chan Saitama i don't think would count as a gag character. sure, he's funny and all, but he's complex in the fact that he has a dilemma over being unable to be given happiness from a hard fight. He's more than a gag in my opinion.

I've decided that there's no real consistent plot in my ocverse
there's story absolutely and i try to be consistent with it however I want to do a sort of similar thing that one punch man does in season 1. generally slice of life (kinda) but with occasional developments (ex: saitama registering as a hero) and occasional very significant action (saitama vs boros)
