Shame on Saiid Kobeisy
**TRIGGER WARNING**: This post talk about the lack of awareness from a fashion designer when it comes to eating disorders and body dysmorphia.
I was going to post the new collection by Saiid Kobeisy today but after looking through the photos I’m shocked and appalled at their obvious photoshopping (or use of AI technology) on the models faces and bodies to extreme levels. Some have been distorted so much that one model (in this photo) looks anorexic which isn’t something to be celebrated or promoted in the name of high end fashion. Eating disorders and body dysmorphia are serious mental health issues that a lot of people are struggling with on a daily basis. This is also alongside those who feel their body is not being represented in the fashion world because they are deemed unattractive for not being thin enough.
I’ve seen some shocking photoshop fails from fashion designers in the past, but Saiid Kobeisy takes the crown on this occasion. Shame on the designer, and shame on their team for thinking that extreme photoshopping of a model’s body for a new fashion collection is okay, because it’s not. All it does is promote the idea that being extremely thin is the only way to live your life and look beautiful in a ball gown at the same time. Seeing Saiid Kobeisy’s new collection is disheartening because it feels like a big step back in the fashion world when it comes to celebrating all body types. I’ve already seen one fashion blog post the new collection, but I will not as I don’t want to promote it nor do I want to trigger anyone who has or still is overcoming an eating disorder themselves.
Anyway I hope this is nothing more than a blip on the radar when it comes to the fashion world and they continue to be more inclusive to everyone and the world we live in today.
