This scene right here is why Doffy is such an amazing villain
Tumblr media
Okay maybe not that scene alone, but it plays in it a lot.
Law came to him wanting to destroy the world. He welcomed him because he saw himself in the angry kid. And then, although he already knew about Flevance, went and did even more research about it.
Doffy cared.
But that’s the thing.
Doffy cared for his mom. Doffy cared for Rocinante. He shared his food and acted like an older brother. He still hoped he wasn’t a spy, and he was not happy when he had to kill him.
But that’s the thing. He killed him. Because for all he cared, Doffy was ruthless. And in the end, the thing he cares about the most is himself.

Heart Pirates Lore Speculation
Desperately need more fanfic expanding on Law building up the Heart Pirates and recruiting Bepo, Penguin and Shachi. We can more or less surmise that Law befriended Bepo after rescuing him, and Penguin and Shachi were impressed enough that they kept interacting with the two of them and decided to all go to sea together, but how much do they know about Law and Cora? Did Law trust them enough to tell them about Flevance? About his torment and trauma? How long did it take before Doffy picked up on Law's location and movements, and how did it affect them? How did this crew of children presumably run from Doffy and survive long enough to become an actual pirate crew? How did they evade him all that time and make it to Paradise, how'd they get their hands on the Polar Tang, and how long did it take Law to develop his powers? How did they recruit the other named members? How did they react to being left on Zou while Law tried to run off to his near certain death? They all clearly love each other and I want to see it expanded on!

I've been re-reading parts I don't remember as well from the end of Dressrosa-Wano this week and am really impressed by how well it all flows when looked at together. In the big picture, I think Oda's intent is that Punk Hazard-Wano are best understood/experienced when read all together.
I wasn't all that into the Grand Fleet on first pass, though they've grown on me a bit more.
Zou is still a wonderful set up arc, probably my favorite short arc in the series, I really like Jaya too though.
Whole Cake Island being a tense last-minute mission, where the crew is only able to escape due to several unexpected allies coming out of the woodwork right at the end there. It works really well to show the value of planning, of slowing down and doing things right. Which Acts One and Two excel at showing and is a big reason why they're my favorite parts of the arc, seeing all the necessary pieces come together to understand and dismantle Kaido and Orochi's well planned takeover of the country, and Kaido's and Big Mom's kinda shoddy alliance, I find very satisfying.
And I really like the casts and the settings of both Tottoland and of Wano, seeing the various ways their histories do or don't affect them in the present day. There are multiple characters from both arcs who distanced themselves from their pasts and found their place elsewhere in the world. Lola, Chiffon, Praline, Kozaburo and his group, etc.

i know i've already posted about experiencing time distortion in one piece but maybe i wouldnt have to if oda didn't keep writing it like that. post timeskip is literally the worst for it too, like return to sabaody, fishman island, punk hazard and the majority of dressrosa could take place over 5 days. oda spent 5 years writing the events of 5 days.
