tell me about your oc!!!!!
OK HI!!! so I made sade for a roleplay campaign thing (it was hell im literally SO BAD at being original 💔)
prns are she/her ("but whatever"), 19, got kicked out of some fancy university/boarding school thing after blowing something up (literal) and she worked as a mechanic for a friend, and invents some of her own random things for fun
throws at u some of the bullet points abt her personality...
- described as "explosive". quite literally. but also metaphorically. - - I mean this like she doesn't think before jumping into a situation and she'll be completely distracted one minute and then come to a conclusion or burst in with something random - determined, stubborn. doesn't like being told she's wrong. kind of like a non stop force that motivates and argues for you. other people marvel at how long she can go before running out of steam - not many people would approach her because she used to be really sarcastic and judgemental, even unintentionally. it sometimes slips out but she's trying to watch it. - .....tolerably nice. but she can get very absorbed in things and revert to sarcasm if she's distracted - Sees blowing up things as a bright light out of whatever she's been stuck in, - eccentric, just a bit rich, unreliable, great in small doses
she has this twin who is the deuteragonist in another story of mine and is nonbinary and can walk through walls and move through time and jump parallel universes buuut that is a different story (they're super cool too)

Here are my completely honest thoughts on a bunch of audio dramas I've checked out. (Don't worry, nothing scathing, they're all reasonably good. But please proceed with caution, or don't proceed, if you're involved in creating any of these shows.)
In the order I first listened:
The Storage Papers: Nine episodes in. A little slow paced, but I've heard it picks up in the later seasons. My only real concern is that it seems like a lot of the horror revolves around "this thing looks sort of like a human but it's Wrong somehow. also it kills people (or cats)." I hope at some point we meet a creature that looks and acts as unsettling as the Grinner but is nice, or at least complicated.
The Cellar Letters: Seven episodes in. I LOVE it. I love the natural-feeling messiness of it, the way Nate and Steve talk in circles and go back and forth on what to believe. It's made me laugh out loud multiple times. I can't wait to learn more about that weird little room full of letters with that one random word written on the wall (I forget what).
400 Words a Horror: Three episodes in. I had to re-listen to the first episode because I hadn't been paying enough attention, but I think that particular episode rewards re-listening anyway. Also it is the only show on this list that genuinely frightens me so I have to pace myself. Very good.
Tin Can Audio Presents: Middle:Below: Two episodes in. I won't say I'm hooked, but I am somewhat interested. It's a lot more relaxing than the other podcasts on this list, so I keep thinking I'll save it for listening closer to bedtime, then not getting around to it.
The Grotto: Six episodes in. Very much enjoying. I was SO proud of myself for correctly guessing the twist in the second episode. I love the characters and am extremely intrigued by the mysteries. My only criticism is that the musical interludes drag on too long. And I'm saying that as a WOE.BEGONE fan.
Soul Operator: Three episodes in. It's good but there isn't any particular element that's drawing me in just yet. There's a lot I don't know about the world yet, though, so there is still plenty of time for me to fall in love with this show. (Irrelevant note: I always get "Smooth Operator" by Sade stuck in my head when I think about this show.)
Shadows at the Door: Listened to half of the first episode. It was somewhat interesting, but I decided I had higher priorities for my listening time than disconnected hour-long episodes that are only *somewhat* interesting.
Archive 81: Five episodes in. Quite possibly going to become a major obsession. It's got everything: playing with point of view; the Power of Storytelling but in a menacing way; vivid character voices; probably a cult. I particularly love the way conversations play out on this show--I don't know exactly how to explain it but there's a certain... friction that happens in real conversations but rarely in fictional ones outside cringe comedy. I don't usually enjoy that sort of thing when it's played for laughs, but for realism or suspense? I eat that up. It does make me a little tense so this is another show I pace myself with and I'm glad the episodes are short.
Alice Isn't Dead: Two episodes in. I'm not going to make it a priority--it's got a similar sort of surrealism to Night Vale, but with higher stakes and less humor, and I had enough trouble getting immersed in Night Vale. I could probably enjoy it if I gave it enough time, but for now I'd rather focus on *gestures at some of the shows above*
The Silt Verses: Listened to the first ten minutes of the first episode and got bored, which I think says as much about me as it does about the show. It does get off to a bit of a slow start and leaves more space between lines of dialogue than most of these shows do, but I could probably get into it with adequate time and sleep. Not prioritizing it, for similar reasons to Alice.

(Same anon asking for Podcast Recs)
I'm okay with non-fiction/non-fantasy stuff as well! I'm into a lot of things personally, and I also don't like true crime stuff for the same reasons as you do. I'd still be open to hearing any recs of casts you liked! ^^
Thanks for taking the time to answer!
yaaaaay ok here are some of my favorites. i listen to everything on spotify just for convenience but i do know that this sort of limits my options since plenty of podcasts aren't available on the platform
no such thing as a fish
[infomercial voice] if you're a fan of QI (which i am) you'll absolutely love this spin-off show run and written by the research elves
really great banter and really excellent mini deep-dives on a very wide variety of topics
super engaging and fun, funny and entertaining, excellent for long car rides
stuff you should know (sysky)
i don't normally like shows that are just banter-based, because it's really rare that i find the hosts interesting enough that their private/personal conversations matter to me, but i got used to josh and chuck and became really fond of them
my major qualm is that they sell themselves as a deep-dive podcast but they very barely scratch the surface of their topics, so if it's a topic i already know a lot about i get really annoyed at how surface-level they are
HOWEVER, this is one of my go-to podcasts for long drives because the sound mixing is great, the hosts are charming, and the topics are super varied!
heaven's gate
this is one of my favorite podcast projects ever. beautifully narrated, extensively and intensively researched. i had to pull over a few times because i was crying and couldn't drive safely.
the narrator/author is someone who himself grew up in a cult that his parents eventually left. he speaks with such deep compassion and understanding.
this is SO incredibly and thoroughly well researched.
the HBO docu series that was inspired by this podcast PALES in comparison. it sucks. it totally wastes the incredible access to survivors and archival footage to say like... nothing of value. but this podcast is absolutely incredible. a real journalistic feat.
bundyville part i & part ii
another of my all-time favorites, a meticulously researched deep-dive into the rise of a specific alt right movement in the american west. really gripping, with excellent research, fantastic writing, and great sound mixing.
winds of change
this series examines a conspiracy theory that the scoprions song winds of change was written by the cia as a psyop to encourage anti-communist pro-western movements behind the iron curtain
this one is fun, but if you have ties to russia, or even more broadly to eastern europe, the extremely american host's shallow perspective on the ussr and more broadly the post-cold war era is.... extremely irritating. to say the least.
9/12
a series about the immediate aftermath of 9/11 that i really enjoyed! includes an interesting mix of perspectives.
queer as fact
an episodic series created by a group of australian grad students about queer historic figures!!
really well researched and very informative! plus the hosts don't interrupt one another all the time trying to get the best joke in, they're really interested and engaged and want to learn about the things the others are saying
not the best sound engineering, something it's hard to hear, especially when driving
i genuinely want so badly for them to do an episode on sade and they never will, which pains me personally
the feminine art of radicalisation
really excellent series that talks about the alt right pipeline specifically for white women and what attracts them to the movement
