September 19th, 1910- Letter extract, Daisy Gillespie to Clem Gillespie
Mother and Mrs Yates are telling everyone the two of you have gone to take up a secretarial course. I know you’d be amused that they’ve finally found common cause. It’s certainly the first time I’ve ever seen them co-operate.
Things are strange here. I think Mama suspects I know where you are, but she won’t ask me- at least, not directly. That’s a relief as I’d find it hard to tell her a direct untruth.
The most important news is that Jem was accepted into Brindleton College on a full scholarship! Mama has told everyone in the village a dozen times over and took him into Greater Windenburg to have his uniform fitted, even though he doesn’t start for almost a year. Papa has been telling him he mustn’t grow another inch, and Jem has resolved to give up his bedtime glass of milk ‘in order that I shan’t grow any more’ (although I think this is only an excuse as you know he hates milk).
Mama made Jem walk up and down the parlour in his uniform to show us all. Biddy fell about laughing and got sent upstairs and Papa hummed Burlington Bertie, which made me think of you. I couldn’t help but think of what you would have said. It does seem silly to make a ten-year-old boy wear a top hat, but then I suppose I don’t know anything about being a gentleman.
I’m glad there is a little while until Jem leaves. It will be strange when it’s just me and Biddy. I know she’ll miss Jem, too- the two of them are thick as thieves. Of course she will be starting at the village school next year as well. That will be a relief really. She was always headstrong, but since you left lately she’s become a bit of a terror. She got a tin of molasses out of the larder and by the time Mother found her half of it was in her hair and wouldn’t come out! You’ve never heard such ructions. In the end Mother had to cut her hair quite short and she cried bitterly at first, but I showed her some fashion plates of little girls with shingled hair from one of my magazines and told her none of the village girls had anything a bit like it, and that perked her up in no time. It really does look pretty on her, but then she always was the prettiest of us. I suppose you won’t mind me saying that, now that you…well, you know.
Perhaps showing her the magazines worked a little too well. This afternoon I caught her walking up and down the pasture wall with a book on her head, and when I asked her what she was doing she said she was practising to be a mannequin for the House of Worth.
The village is much the same as ever. Paul Farber and Sybil Copeland were married last Sunday. Myrtle was head bridesmaid and looked like thunder. I suspect she’s chafing that Sybil is married before her, and her not even engaged. I think she and Justice Bowlinger have had a lover’s quarrel; she hasn’t been boasting about him nearly as much lately.
Eli has been teaching me songs in Yiddish (his mother’s language) and Ladino (his father’s). I’d never heard either before. I’m sure I make an awful mess of them, but he’d never say so. He’s begun calling me Margeritke, which means daisy, after one of the songs. Daisy is such a prosaic name, the sort of name you give to cows, but Margeritke seems quite different.
He laughed a good deal when I showed him your picture, but he swore he wasn’t making fun. He said you looked more natural in men’s clothes than you ever did in skirts.
I must go to bed now; I have to be up early to milk Betsy. Oh! and I enclose a portrait of Jem in his uniform. Mama had so many copies made, I don’t think she’ll miss one.
Your loving sister,
Daisy

The union between Briony and Fergus took place in the forest, surrounded by nature, druids and Fergus' children.
"I won't do anything you don't want to do, Briony, now I am your husband and I will take care of you at all times even if love does not exist between us"
"Fergus, dear, I have wanted to be a mother for as long as I can remember. I want a little offspring to take care of, I will also take care of your children as if I were their mother of course, I will talk to you about it tomorrow. Now take me and let's make a baby."
"I have already ordered Birgit's grave to be built in the woods behind, but I beg you to sell your late wife's horse, I am terrified of her."
"The horse will not be sold, I'm sorry, we will do one thing, as soon as Cormac grows up and builds his own village he will take him with him. Birgit adored the boy like her own son and would like him to have him"
"Okay, for the rest, you will dedicate yourself to fishing and hunting, and you will take Cormac to learn. I will dedicate myself to the cultivation of my plants and teach the girls everything I know. Which of the two will go with the druids Have you decided?"
"Endellion will become a druid, it's decided"

The Wigghams - Golden Era.
Let me introduce you to my first and latest historical challenge household pictured here: The Wigghams.
Set vaguely in an alternative Simverse in the 1550s, vaguely reminding me of Tudor England, Kennard and Catherine Wiggham, two young aspiring merchants just inherited a small one-room cottage in Windon, the capital city of the Kingdom. The young couple left all their former belongings in the southeast of the country to move to the big city and use the opportunity to start a new, more fulfilling life.
How will Kennard’s aspiration for power, wealth, fame and a big mansion work with Catherine’s life-long dream of a big, lovely and succesful family? How are the neighbours? And can the new unstable political situation of the country be used by people with ulterior motives?
This and more now in my hopefully regular storytelling/challenge of the great british sim challenge: golden era

The 1400s gave way to the incredibly iconic accessories of the 1500s, namely hoods (both Gabled and French) and ruffs. While the end of the Tudor era saw the popularity of headdresses decline in favour of uncovered hair decorated with jewels, diadems, and feathers, prior to that headdresses were a vital part of court dress. In fact, the style of hood worn was often used as a political statement amongst the nobility. Hats had always been in fashion for men, but the 16th century saw them also become a fashion staple for women. CC links and reference images under the cut.

Thermopolium Set [Ancient Roman Theme]
This is a set containing 26 pieces. So you can build you own Thermopolium Corner.
The food counter is functional and your Sim can grab 10 different ancient roman dishes or 4 different drinks.
You can tend the counter, directly grab food or hire a vendor.
The set also includes functional grill, sink, table, chair, shelves and a lot of decorative objects in the ancient roman style, so you can customize your perfect Thermopolium/Tavern.
There are two items converted from The Sims Medieval and retextured by me (rice sack, now flour sack, and barrel with sausages).
MORE PHOTOS AND DOWNLOAD INFO UNDER THE CUT
This is part 1 of 3 dedicated to Ancient Roman Theme.
(Part 2 coming in April will include Kitchen Set plus Roman Scrolls with custom roman recipes and Part 3 coming in May will cover Wine Making and building vineyard and Winery).
If you like history, you can check out the origin of fast food in Ancient Pompeii (the video that inspired me to make this set and the whole thematic CC project) right here.
P.S. If you want to make sure NPC Sims would actually order food from the thermopolium, I would recommend installing Insimnia's Let's Eat trait lot.

My dearest Lady Elisaria
Terrible news. My father, Lord John, has died from the Black Death, as has my half-sister, Lady Gregoria. I know this will sadden you too - my father greatly admired your loyalty to me and welcomed you as if you were one of his daughters. I know you will miss his generosity of heart and spirit.
Alas, that is not all. Sir Gregory writes that his Lordship is on his deathbed. The cook that made him sick died some days ago. I must confess, I am torn on whether to return for his burial. I know that, as his wife, I am duty bound, but still my fear of becoming sick is strong. Will you return too? I might just manage if we bear it together.
The Sisters have been very kind and cared for me in my grief, often praying with me and wiping away my tears. They have even offered to see me safely back to Windenburg castle and manage the funeral.
Write me and tell me your plans - if I read that you depart for Windenburg, I will leave here moments later.
Your Lady

Bella Rosen, Greater Windenburg, 1910
previous | next | beginning
———————————————————————————————————–I’m having such a great time making these! Please comment if you have any ideas for further costumes for Bella.
I tried to replicate editing techniques that would have been done at the time, i.e. making her teeny waist even teenier. The Victorians and Edwardians absolutely had their equivalent of Photoshop and used it liberally. You can often see slight marks around womens’ waists where part of it has been scratched out or painted over.

"Tell me, Fergus, why did you require my services as a druid?"
"Erin, thank you for coming to my aid, I think the gods have been angry with me, two of my wives have died shortly after we got married, now I am getting married again and although it is not for love, I don't want the same thing to happen, I need an amulet for her."
"There is something…yes, perhaps…hmmm…it is said that eons ago, a hero who was in charge of removing evil from the world and the one who created the community of druids, created a ring, with the symbology of a claddagh, the claddagh is represented with two hands surrounding a heart, complemented by a crown, it is the expression of true love or eternal friendship. The heart symbolizes love; the hands, friendship; and the crown, loyalty and fidelity. "
"It is said that it will protect whoever wears it, since this hero created it for his wife, and inside it keeps the happiness of the world when it was created"
"We druids, we have hidden it for centuries, but I think the time has come to pass on the legacy, although in exchange for the location, you must offer us a sacrifice in exchange or the gods will be angry"
"Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you, I swear it here by the gods"
"One of your daughters, upon reaching the age of sixteen, must join the community of druids, there are fewer and fewer of us and we need followers to follow our paths. It will be hard, since she will spend years in seclusion, training in magic."
"The amulet is in the snail rock, the ring is what the legends call the Celtic Heart; he protects it, keep it safe and do not let the tradition fall into oblivion. I will return for the daughter you choose in a few years "Goodbye Fergus, take care."

Fire! Just a few days after moving to Windon, the young couple experienced the horror of their lives: while grilling herself some delicious fresh fish, a fire broke out and even though both of them were left unharmed, this experience left some scars in both of their minds. Since that morning, Kennard and Catherine share not only a fear of the dark, but also of death and fire.
Luckily after saving some money from continuing his merchant (business) career, kennard built a chicken coop and bought a hen and a cock - Oliver and Henriette for a supply of fresh eggs. The animal-loving Catherine took both of them into her heart. Even after the trauma of a fire, the Wigghams were eager to establish themselves in the capital and continue their pursuit of wealth, hapiness and fame.
Ah - the smell of fresh flowers, grass and other plants in spring is truly a delight. And selling tulips to interested merchants from all around the world is never to be underestimated.
Shortly after the smell of roses and the celebrations of St. Valentines, Catherine fell sick, but not long after that she noticed a bump in her belly.
The Wigghams are expecting their first child! Does catherine survive the burden of birth, can the Wigghams fight their biggest fear of fire and death, and can they provide for their future offspring in these hard and challenging times?
