I’m sorry, it’s just a friend kidnapping her newborn self and then collapsing time, it’s a hard boundary for me.

the first season of Russian Doll was like everything you do matters kindness matters people need people it’s important
the second second of Russian Doll was like there is nothing you can do to change the past we are the women who came before us you need to face what is in front of you even if it hurts

I may look like Nora, but I don’t play games. Just last night, I murdered a rock, I injured a stone, I hospitalized a brick. I’m so mean I make medicine sick.

I have never related to a character more than Alan on Russian Dolls.
His “I killed myself” and his Grandmother’s reaction....fucking gutted me.

russian doll season 2 when it talked about being your mothers daughter and her being her mothers daughter and how you can be so furious at someone and hate them but still love them because you know how much they struggled and how much they love you. when it said as much as you wish you could go back and untangle everything, you cant because the result of that tangled mess is you exactly as you are

I’m thinking about how, in the first episode of Russian Doll, Nadia said “I mean, the one, in practical application, just means the one I'm gonna die with. You know, to take care of me when I'm infirm and shit. So, my move is gonna be to wait till I'm in like my late 60s, and then seal the deal. That is, of course, assuming I don't die between then and now.”
Because it literally took her dying between then and now to make her realize that she really did need other people, and could not sustainably rely on herself forever (or until she became physically unable). Alan was the one she died with, and neither of them could have gotten out of the loophole they were in alone.
It’s just such a clever way to make the meaning behind the show clear, and I can’t believe I missed it the first couple of times I watched it.

after powerwatching russian doll over the last 24 hours, can i just say that i LOVE that they didnt write alan/nadia to be a couple in season 2. so often in shows when characters hook up, it leads to either:
1. dating/being end game 2. having weird jealousy or resentment
and i think they represent a real relationship dynamic that doesnt get explored a lot -  2 queer friends that fuck to figure some stuff out, then come to the conclusion they dont want to date or continue hooking up. alan and nadia have such a unique connection, and i think its genuinely one of my fav dynamics in media - 2 people that are wildly completely different, but would never dream of giving the other one up. they are each others family and moral compass and emotional backsplash and drinking buddy, and they fucked one time

So, I just started watching Russian Doll Season 2. I’m barely three minutes into the first episode, Nowhen, when Nadia says, “All right, what is the game plan around here? I mean, is Lenox Hill actually treating patients today, or are we putting on a Beckett play?” For context, Nadia and Ruth are sitting in the lobby/waiting room of a New York hospital, Lenox Hill, filling out a patient information sheet for Ruth after a minor car accident. They’re cracking jokes, filling out whatever they feel like, and Nadia wishes the process would go along faster bc surely Ruth has been waiting longer than she has. No doubt she’s worried for her godmother to get care as soon as possible and impatient waiting for the doctor to call for them to be seen. Back to the quote, “Is Lenox Hill actually treating patients today, or are we putting on a Beckett play?” I think Nadia is referencing Samuel Beckett’s famous play, Waiting for Godot, one of my favorite plays to read. In that play, the two main characters do whatever, complaining, telling jokes, all by the side of the road while waiting for someone named Godot to appear. By the end of that, Godot never does, but the characters continue waiting and it seems like the play never ends or loops on uncertainly. Nadia must see herself and Ruth paralleled there in the waiting room, waiting for a doctor that will never come or call in the long list of patients there. Luckily, the doctor does call in Ruth not too long after the joke, but I thought this inside joke was too witty and humorous to pass up without context. Ngl, a similar reference to Oedipus and a different male doctor holding the door open to Nadia was also clever. Gosh, I love classic literature and comedies, so for Russian Doll to be playing into that makes me adore it more. XD

Watching Russian Doll and oh shit oh fuck the season 1 ending... the fact Nadia and Alan first are separated because they learned their lesson but they still need to prove the base hypothesis: that they would save the other. And when they do that and care and keep this other person that doesn't even know them, they're allowed to meet up again, with Nadia talking him out of suicide at the same time Alan saves another Nadia from the car, they're allowed to meet each other again and screams in alone again or
