Taylor Swift Tapped as First Record Store Day Global Ambassador

Taylor Swift has been tapped as the first-ever global ambassador for Record Store Day, with the singer stepping up to help mark the 15th anniversary of the annual celebration. In an announcement, the RSD braintrust wrote:

“RSD AMBASSADOR (Taylor’s Version). Thanks to Taylor Swift for putting on the sash and serving as the first ever GLOBAL RECORD STORE DAY AMBASSADOR, helping us celebrate the culture of the independent record store around the world.”

Anna Lundy and Doyle Davis of Grimey’s said in a statement:

“We’re thrilled to learn that Taylor Swift is our 2022 Record Store Day Ambassador! Swift has shown her love and support for independent record stores by not only supporting our shop specifically during the dark, early days of the pandemic, when she directly donated to help us support our staff, but also by steering her eager, excited, and dedicated fans to independent record stores, places that many of them visited for the first time while in search of her signed CDs. As Swift has grown as an artist, we’ve watched her fans grow with her and have been delighted to see her taking control of her recordings and working with musicians like Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner, artists whose music has resonated in shops like ours for years. We can’t think of a better choice for RSD Ambassador for 2022!”

RSD co-founder Carrie Colliton said in a statement:

Taylor Swift has been tapped as the first-ever global ambassador for Record Store Day. In an announcement, the RSD braintrust wrote, “RSD AMBASSADOR (Taylor’s Version).”

I feel like Taylor's RSD vinyl will have many copies since she's literally being called the global ambassador but we just can't be sure... I'm stressed...

Taylor will release "a special RSD 2022" vinyl to mark the event's 15th anniversary!

Surprised Taylor posted about RSD, I figured she would’ve skipped over it tbh lol it’s not that big of a deal

She’s the first global ambassador why did you think she doesn’t care? She quite literally got paid to care.

It’s a little frustrating to see the way some swifties are reacting to the RSD list that was announced. Don’t get me wrong, I would have loved to get a TV or LPSS release for RSD, but vinyl production is already backed up by 6+ months. I’ve seen dozens of tik toks about how Taylor should have announced the next re-record, released it early April, and released a RSD variant as well as the Lakes single, and I think it’s kind of unfair to expect all of that.

To accomplish all of that it would require prioritizing Taylor over so many other artists that have been waiting to press their albums for months, and because she’s a global ambassador, people would likely expect 10K copies of any potential album variant as well as the Lakes single. I ordered an album on vinyl last June and it still hasn’t shipped because of delays, and I don’t think it’s fair to all of those other artists to delay their pressings even further. Especially not in a pandemic with ongoing labour shortages, and pre-existing vinyl delays of 6+ months.
