Foo Fighters - The Pretender 2007
Foo Fighters is an American rockband formed in Seattle in 1994, founded initially as a one-man project by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl. Foo Fighters have won 15 Grammy Awards, including Best Rock Album five times, making them among the most successful rock acts in Grammy history. In 2021, the band was announced as recipients of the first-ever "Global Icon" award at the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2021, their first year of eligibility.
"The Pretender" was the first single from their sixth album Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007). It is one of their most successful songs; peaking at number 37 on the US Billboard Hot 100 (making it their third top-40 single), only "Learn to Fly" and "Best of You" beat its position on the Billboard Hot 100.
"The Pretender" was a 2008 Grammy Award nominee for Best Rock Song and Record of the Year, and won the Grammy for Best Hard Rock Performance. The music video was nominated for a 2008 MTV Video Music Award for Best Rock Video, but lost to Linkin Park's "Shadow of the Day".
As of January 2024, the song has over 562 million views on YouTube, making it the band's most-viewed video on the platform.
"The Pretender" received a total of 76% yes votes! Dave Grohl has previously featured in the polls as a drummer on "No One Knows" at #87, as well as Nirvana's cover of "The Man Who Sold the World" at #118.

Tumblr media

What to expect
Expect an immersive "musical journey through the colorful world of Sonic the Hedgehog," with "classic 8-bit and 16-bit tunes to rock and EDM songs."
Relive your favorite Sonic moments, brought to life by a full symphony orchestra. Sonic Symphony will be an electrifying tribute to the music that has defined generations of gamers, old and new.
Tumblr media
Why "two cities" for a world tour?
The company characterized the two events as "debut performances", though it was reassured that more events are expected to appear in 2024.
Meanwhile, a mailing list on the official website invited people to "find out when [the Tour] is coming near you."
While it isn't clear if Sonic Symphony will be coming to other countries, this is certainly something Sonic fans will want to keep their eyes very open.

Billie Holiday (born Eleanora Fagan; April 7, 1915 – July 17, 1959) was an American jazz and swing music singer. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and music partner, Lester Young, Holiday had an innovative influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. She was known for her vocal delivery and improvisational skills. Holiday won four Grammy Awards, all of them posthumously, for Best Historical Album. She was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame and the National Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame. After a turbulent childhood, Holiday began singing in nightclubs in Harlem, where she was heard by producer John Hammond, who liked her voice. She signed a recording contract with Brunswick in 1935. Collaborations with Teddy Wilson produced the hit "What a Little Moonlight Can Do", which became a jazz standard. Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Holiday had mainstream success on labels such as Columbia and Decca. By the late 1940s, however, she was beset with legal troubles and drug abuse. After a short prison sentence, she performed at a sold-out concert at Carnegie Hall. She was a successful concert performer throughout the 1950s with two further sold-out shows at Carnegie Hall. Because of personal struggles and an altered voice, her final recordings were met with mixed reaction but were mild commercial successes. Her final album, Lady in Satin, was released in 1958. Holiday died of cirrhosis on July 17, 1959, at age 44. In 2000, she was also inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as an early influence; their website states that "Billie Holiday changed jazz forever". She was named one of the 50 Great Voices by NPR; and was ranked fourth on the Rolling Stone list of "200 Greatest Singers of All Time" (2023). Several films about her life have been released, most recently The United States vs. Billie Holiday (2021).

December Prompt 3: Miss
.
.
Dec 3, 2021
Percy wakes up on the couch with Charlie spread eagle on his chest. Her head is tilted up, like she fell asleep looking at him. Her mouth is ajar, the dark circle below a reminder that she is her father’s daughter.
Annabeth is in the kitchen making breakfast. He can hear her moving around behind him, and after laying the baby down and barricading her in with throw pillows and blankets, he joins her.
“You’re making breakfast?” His inquiry is tentative, he watches her hurriedly slice a banana into thin rounds.
‘Yeah.” When he doesn’t say anything she adds, “It’s instant oats, asshole.” The microwave dings and she steps away to pull it open, retrieving the bowl of the hot aforementioned oats and setting it next to the saucer she’s using as a cutting board.
He’s up before her on any given day, but for the last few days, Charlie has refused to sleep without being rocked and held. Despite her small, eight-month-old body, she does call the shots, at least with him. That means he's walking up and down the hall in their apartment, singing whatever song he can think of at 4am. Last night, it had been Nickelback.
Annabeth picks up the plate and adds the sliced bananas to the bowl of cooling oats. It makes a small clink when she sets it down before she moves to the refrigerator.
“You want some?” She calls over her shoulder as she reaches for the blueberries.
“No.” He grabs a spoon and helps himself to a bite.
When she drops some washed blueberries into the mix, he helps himself to another bite.
She picks up the bowl and takes the spoon from him, turning to lean back against the counter as she eats her breakfast.
He steps closer to her as her mouth closes around the spoon.
She doesn't react when he cages her in, her feet between his, his arms braced on the counter behind her. She offers him a bite of her food though, which he takes.
“I missed you.”
He cocks his head; there's a bit of oat in the corner of his mouth. Her eyes focus there, he notices and swipes at the spot with his thumb but misses.
“I missed you,” she repeats, running her spoon down his center, her knuckles brush the tie of his pajama bottoms.
“No…” He appears stricken.
"Maybe don't fall asleep on the couch next time.”
"I’m gonna cry.”
He lowers his head to her neck but she uses the bowl in her hand to push his chest away.
"I'm heading to work.” She sets the mostly eaten breakfast to the side.
He knows that. She already has her coat on. Her legs look a mile long in her trousers and block-heeled boots. Those boots click against the floor when she steps toward the kitchen table where she'd set her messenger bag earlier.
“Hey,” he catches her wrist. “We can-”
“I can't talk right now,” she lifts the bag to her shoulder, “but I'll be upstairs, tonight, around 10?”
He follows her and she turns, brushing a kiss to the corner of his mouth. “Let me know if you'll be able to make it.”

If you have watched or are familiar with Jerma985's streams, Josh "Science Josh" Bonde was the geology expert from the Nevada Science Center who appeared on the "Archaeology Stream" in early 2021, where he patiently watched a 36 year old man attempt to eat rocks on camera in the middle of the desert. Jerma shared on the stream today that Josh and his family were recently in a serious car accident; their 10 year old daughter Nola was killed and Josh, Becky and Keira sustained severe injuries.
If you can, please donate, and if not, please signal boost. Josh is a respected Indigenous scientist and science educator in the state of Nevada and the fact that he agreed to be on a silly Twitch stream to attempt to provide actual education brought joy to thousands of people in the middle of the pandemic.

Grant A Fuhrman, Wisconsin inmate 720159, born 2002, incarceration intake 05/05/2023 at age 20, sentenced to 17 years, scheduled discharge date not available
Attempted Murder
In May 2023, a man charged with and found guilty of the attempted homicide of a school resource officer in Oshkosh was handed down his sentence by a judge.
Grant Fuhrman was sentenced to 17 years in prison with ten years of extended supervision. He was reportedly credited with 1,246 days served.
Fuhrman, who was 16 at the time of the attack, was previously found guilty of Attempted 1st-Degree Intentional Homicide by a Winnebago County jury. Fuhrman pleaded not guilty to the charge in 2021. The incident happened back in 2019.
According to the criminal complaint, Fuhrman texted a friend to bet that Fuhrman would not go to Wissink’s office and stab him with a pencil, take Wissink’s gun out of his holster, and either shoot himself or the officer. The friend said she did not report the message.
The friend, identified only by her initials, told investigators that the night before the attack, she told Fuhrman to stop bothering her or she would report him.
That next morning, Fuhrman allegedly smirked at her in school before heading into Wissink’s office to begin the attack.
Fuhrman told investigators that after his fight with his friend, he stopped communicating with her and started thinking about how he could get Wissink’s gun, even though he also said he had nothing against the officer and didn’t want him to die, according to the complaint.
“Fuhrman stated that he thought about how he would stab Officer Wissink in the neck and take his gun,” the complaint states. In the morning, he went to his kitchen, chose a grilling fork, and had it in his waistband when he arrived at school, the complaint said.
According to the complaint, Wissink told Fuhrman, whom the officer called a “hall wanderer,” to get to class after he saw the student walk past his office that morning. After an assistant principal left Wissink’s office, Fuhrman entered and asked the officer to look up his fine for shooting up cars with a BB gun. With Fuhrman standing behind him, Wissink said he was searching on his computer when he felt a blow, and his “head got rocked.”
Wissink said he felt more blows “raining” on his head and felt “extreme pain.” The officer said he believed he was hit at least five more times but was able to get to his feet and saw Fuhrman holding a three-prong fork. Wissink was unable to get his Taser, so he drew his gun and fired twice, hitting Fuhrman once and shooting himself in the left forearm.
Wissink kneeled on Fuhrman to keep him down and heard the student say, “I’m dying,” according to the complaint. Wissink said Fuhrman only stopped stabbing him after he was shot.
“Wissink stated that he had a good relationship with Fuhrman before the attack, and teachers had told him that Fuhrman regarded his office as a safe place,” the complaint states.
Fuhrman told investigators that he did not want Wissink to die but that he wanted his gun, according to the complaint. However, the student said he did not know what he would do with the gun when he got it.
“Fuhrman stated that he wanted Officer Wissink to know that it was nothing personal and he didn’t dislike Officer Wissink,” the complaint says.
The now 20-year-old began to cry as he spoke before the court at his sentencing hearing.
He apologized to the victim and the entire school community that was rocked by the violence.
“What I’ve done has deeply affected you,” Fuhrman said of the victim. “I wish to take that pain away. As much as I wish I could, I can’t take back what I’ve done but I can do what I can to make things right.”
The defense argued that Fuhrman’s family struggled to treat his attention deficit disorder which included depression and sleeplessness.
Fuhrman said he hoped to have the forgiveness of all involved one day.
