Crimo dad washes hands of guilt but talked with son about a mass shooting night before Highland Park massacre HIGHLAND PARK, Ill. – The dad of the accused Fourth of July parade killer told The Post on Wednesday that his son talked about a mass shooting in Denmark the night before allegedly launching his own massacre — and the dad washed his hands of any guilt over how the suspect got his gun. The father, Robert Crimo Jr. — who has tapped one of R. Kelly’s lawyers to battle claims that he helped his mentally disturbed kid buy guns — said that the night before Monday’s shooting, he and son Robert Crimo III discussed the 22-year-old Danish man who shot and killed three people at a mall outside Copenhagen on Sunday.  “He goes, ‘Yeah, that guy is an idiot.’ That’s what he said!” the dad recalled his son saying of the Denmark shooter. The father said his son added, “People like that … [commit mass shootings] to amp up the people that want to ban all guns.” “I talked to him 13 hours before [Monday’s massacre]. That’s why I guess I’m in such shock. … Like, did he have a psychiatric break or something?” the father said of his son. On Tuesday, Steven Greenberg, who previously represented R. Kelly in the fallen singing superstar’s federal sex-trafficking case out of Brooklyn, announced that Crimo Jr. and his estranged wife, Denise, had retained him in the wake of their son’s arrest.  The father, a onetime local mayoral candidate who used to run a neighborhood sandwich shop, has faced a wave of criticism for sponsoring his son’s gun license application, which allowed Crimo III to buy four guns, including his alleged slay weapon, before age 21. #robertcrimo #highlandparkillinois #highlandparkshooting #robertcrimoiii #badparenting https://www.instagram.com/p/CfxxR0usoLd/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Suspect in connection with a mass shooting at July 4th parade in Highland Park, Illinois, has been taken into custody Robert E. Crimo III, the suspect in a mass shooting at a parade that left six dead and sent more than two dozen people to hospitals, has been taken into custody near Lake Forest, Illinois, authorities said during a brief news conference Monday night. Authorities said Crimo was spotted by a North Chicago officer who attempted a traffic stop. Crimo led officers on a brief chase before being stopped. He was taken into custody without incident and will be transferred to the police department in Highland Park, where the deadly shooting occurred earlier Monday. Earlier, as law enforcement searched for Crimo, police had labeled him "a person of interest" and the FBI said, "He being sought for his alleged involvement in the shooting of multiple individuals at an Independence Day parade in Highland Park, Illinois." The capture ended an intense manhunt across the Chicagoland area after the shooting upended Independence Day festivities in cities throughout the region. The shooting in Highland Park, about 25 miles north of Chicago, began shortly after 10 a.m. CT as parade-goers enjoyed a sunny Fourth of July parade along Central Avenue. Firearm evidence was found on the rooftop of a business near the shooting, police commander Chris O'Neill said earlier. The gunman used a ladder attached to the building on a wall in an alley to access the roof, said Christopher Covelli, spokesperson for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force. The gun was a "high-powered rifle" and the attack appeared to be "random" and "intentional," Covelli said. Authorities are working to trace the firearm to find out who purchased it and its origins, according to Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives spokesperson Kim Nerheim. Covelli told reporters that SWAT members and other officers have been evacuating people from buildings within a certain radius of the shooting. Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek said the five people who died at the scene were adults. One person died at a hospital, she said. #robertcrimo #robertcrimoiii #trumpsupporter #trump #robertecrimoiii https://www.instagram.com/p/CfnUowKMYOi/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
