just when I was thinking my girl gang needed a tank upgrade, we just so happened to pass by exactly what I was looking for left on the side of the road, and with it, I built this roach mansion
before (2 gal):
after (10 gal):
decor is going to have to be sparse for now. definitely want to put many more plastic plants and maybe some nice stones to add climbing terrain, but they seem really happy with all the extra space and new furniture :)
Finally got my roach tank set up! (feat. my snap figurine) It鈥檚 got some cork wood, two dishes for food, coconut fiber as a substrate, and a small heating pad! I鈥檓 gonna get 3 male hissers and keep them in there.聽 i鈥檓 a newbie roach keeper, so if any seasoned roach caretakers see anything wrong with my setup, let me know! are you excited? i鈥檓 excited!聽
Might be a dumb question, but I鈥檝e been reading up on the care of various roach species and came across something I鈥檓 confused about
Is it true that if you have roaches (I鈥檓 mainly talking about hissers and dubia) for a while you鈥檒l become allergic to them?
I鈥檇 love to own some G. portentosa, S. conserfariam and maybe eventually a colony of Dubia for feeder insects/pets but I鈥檝e heard that people who have colonies of them usually become super allergic and that鈥檚 making me worried
I got tested for allergies and I鈥檓 mainly allergic to ragweed, pollen, grass, etc but I don鈥檛 think they tested for roaches and I don鈥檛 have asthma or any other breathing issues
I know that I shouldn鈥檛 like, stick my head into their enclosure and inhale a shitload of frass but I鈥檓 still worried about getting roaches and then having to get rid of them cause I鈥檓 allergic. I don鈥檛 mind if my eyes get itchy or my nose runs, but I don鈥檛 wanna have serious issues.
