I’ve getting my fiancé caught up on the Great British Baking Show, and his conclusion after watching about six or seven seasons is that, “Gold leaf fixes everything.”
Biscuits slightly over baked? Gold leaf.
Tray bake messy? Gold leaf.
Three tear cake leaning? Gold leaf.
Steak burnt? Gold leaf.
Soup under-seasoned? Gold leaf.
Car engine not turning over? Gold leaf.
He just sent me a link to buy a 24 pack of gold leaf on Amazon, so we can have one on hand to solve all of our problems. 🤣

Pawn
After sex I began feeling forlorn,
When Emet-Selch turned to me with a yawn,
Saying "Forgive the intrusion,
But I required your collusion,
Since I so wanted to be in a pawn..."
Tumblr media
Silliness intensifies...
(Also, I tried googling "sexy Emet-Selch" for an illustration for this... never again... it was too much for my innocent mind...)

driver: did you bring enough for everybody? me, confused: uh... they're carrots?? driver: yeah, did you bring enough for everybody? me: *confused silence* *few seconds of awkward silence* other guy in the backseat: ...did you bring ranch? me: *confused-er silence* guy riding shotgun: you have any other vegetables?
so anyways that's the story of how i'm going to bring an onion next week and eat it like an apple

I ignore about 95% of the conversations surrounding Arya having killed people because, outside of Arya stans, people refuse to include the context of the very violent circumstances she experiences + her trauma which influences her actions. She wasn't destined to be a killer and her being forced on the run, having to survive during a war (at times on her own), having to witness countless people being tortured and murdered, being enslaved as a prisoner of war, having to witness the deaths of her family, etc. are all hugely important factors. Not to mention the times when her life is literally on the line and she has to make tough decisions to ensure her survival. The only time her trauma is acknowledged is when people are using it to prove she's "too far gone", otherwise it's essays on how she hasn't suffered that much. It's so boring how people ignore well-developed characters just to reduce them to one or two aspects of their story. And this treatment is only for certain characters; let someone mention Sansa being part of the plot to poison Sweetrobin and all of a sudden, people can understand being forced to make questionable decisions under difficult circumstances.

I think Dazai, while young, became attached to Natsume when Natsume was lonely and so was he (which is why he calls him Sensei in the Dark Era, like the protagonist in Kokoro); that Natsume brought Dazai to Mori after Dazai attempted suicide (which is why Dazai never touches him in Bar Lupin, why Natsume follows him from the Port Mafia to his meeting with Taneda and then to the Agency, why Dazai knows Natsume well enough to allude to his history to Tanizaki and to recieve the jump drive Natsume brings him in the Cannibalism arc— Dazai knows him); and that Natsume performed a partial skill transfer similar to Kyouka's mother to ensure it could not come that close ever again (and that's why Dazai is one of the few if not only touch/contact-based skill users whose is involuntary).
I think No Longer Human isn't merely nullification, I think (similar to how Bram's skill reverses death but through the framework of vampirism and Atsushi's slices skills and regenerates in addition to his transformations), there is more to Dazai's skill such that it precludes him from dying (which is why he can stand in front of a hail of bullets and be thrown by Chuuya through several buildings in the Port Mafia, why he can't seem to commit suicide successfully, why Kunikida and Chuuya remark on his preternatural inability to die, why Dazai says to both Atsushi and Fyodor with such certainty "you can't kill me," and, cheekily, why Kunikida tells Dazai in 55 Minutes "You're no longer human! You've lost that right!" when Dazai says he finally managed to die, however briefly).
I think Natsume's skill bends reality in the shape of the narrative structure over which he had such mastery and he decided that whoever he failed to snatch from the cyclical jaws of misery and suicide before (again, borrowing from Kokoro), he would not let this boy die; and how cruel that must have felt at first (which is why Dazai hates pain— he's been denied the easiest escape from it that he knows), but how reality bent to weave a narrative such that Dazai could be saved again and again in such a way that might shatter Koroko's inescapable loneliness (this is why, in 55 Minutes, it's implied HG Wells might not have existed, might have been an apparition from an earlier era, as if reality itself rippled space and time to reconjure someone who made sense to protect Dazai when it seemed unlikely anyone else could; why Akutagawa happened to have business there; why Akutagawa and Atsushi happened to cross paths).
It's well known that the titular cat in I Am a Cat is a calico. But, the story was based on Natsume's IRL cat, who was a black, striped cat. And aren't Dazai's bandages a little like stripes?

sorry i know this might be controversial but bullying and being bullied is often just a normal part of growing up. there are exceptions, obviously, but i think the ubiquity of anti-bullying campaigns has created a generation or two of people who act like being teased was a catastrophic trauma and who use it as an excuse to be a nasty spiteful and unempathetic adult who makes uncharitable assumptions about strangers and refuses to acknowledge that they are not the world’s most special and most important baby. grow up peter pan!

it's the way we were so close to getting the ideal Tim-Damian dynamic and then Nicieza had to go ruin it in the same arc

So.
Watched The Giggle.
Guys.
Guys.
About 10-15 years ago I went on an Old Who binge. Like, raided Daily Motion, downloaded the full episodes list from Hartnell to Baker and then every episode with the Master or the Rani
And went for every “lost episode”, a bunch of which are on Audible
And
You know who my favourite was?
My most favourite Old Who thing that I went on a jillion tweet rant about how they should bring back immediately?
The fucking Toymaker
I LOVED him
Favourite guy
And you know the other thing? That… complicates the memory?
I don’t visualise. At all, ever, so I also don’t really remember things in visual aspects, so not being able to visualise what those episodes looked like? Meant nothing to me
That’s normal
I spent the whole damn episode with just the very most nostalgia and delight and also yes, the feeling of “this is so very familiar but I don’t know what it should look like”
Like… I knew it was black and white cuz it was Hartnell
But I couldn’t remember a single visual aspect of those episodes, but it still felt so… perfect. So right
Guys
Guys
There fucking ISN’T video of the first three fucking episodes in that arc. There just isn’t. It’s gone. We have the audio and some stills and some saint has made a kinda audiobook version and then shackled themselves to Audible for some ungodly reason and given us the arc that way
I WAS TRYING TO REMEMBER VIDEO FOR EPISODES I KNEW I LOVED BUT HAD ACTUALLY NEVER SEEN BUT I COULD NOT TELL BECAUSE I AM GODDAMN APHANTASMIC AND CAN’T VISUALISE THE EPISODE I JUST WATCHED
this is all the Toymaker’s fault and Neil Patrick Harris was so fucking perfect and I loved that he came in to do a musical number and then left for no fucking reason
He gave me life and also epic catch was Fine I Guess but someone needs to challenge the Toymaker to a ttrpg, particularly one like DnD or Pathfinder that does not have a win condition because I feel like that would upset him so much but also he wouldn’t notice for like 8 years
