Joseph Lee Committed on Charge of Murdering George Jackson

HAMILTON, June 10 — (CP) — Joseph Lee, elderly former east-end restaurateur, was committed to high court after preliminary hearing in magistrate's court today on a charge of murdering George Hamilton Jackson at Jackson's horseshoe plant June 4.
On the suggestion of George H. Ballard, K.C., Crown Attorney, the evidence covered also the charge of murdering John Anderson and a charge of attempted murder in the ease of Anthony Anderson, critically wounded.
Only two witnesses were called to describe the triple shooting. Testimony of these with medical evidence and that of Govemor Frank Lalonde of Barton Street Jail was deemed sufficient by Magistrate Burbidge to commit Lee.
Evidence against Lee from Turnkey Thomas Hickmott and Adolph Miller. a truck-driver who was one of the first on the scene of the shooting and who encountered the accused man with a gun as he left the horseshoe company building.
"Here I am, I've done it," Lee told Hickmott as he entered Barton Street Jail after the shooting to surrender himself, the evidence revealed.
"What have you done?" asked the bewildered turnkey, in the jail office with Govemor Lalonde.
"I've shot a man at the horseshoe work,” Lee was quoted as saying.
"Is he dead?”
"I don’t know, but he should be," the accused said to Hickmott.
