Everyone listen. If you ever wanted to volunteer in an animal shelter but thought 'eh, they don't need my help, there's a lot of people there' trust me. They do need your help. Yes even if there are a lot of people they are exhausted. They get so many calls of dogs and cats needing rescue. They often take them in to their own homes because other volunteers/workers don't have a place for more animals anymore. I know a shelter volunteer who has tons of kittens at her house. Another one who feeds stray cats. People who spend tons of their own money on helping those animals because there's no one else that will do it. Any help is always appreciated, even if you can be there only once per month. So please, support your local animal shelters. They need it
Im working on drawing Stuilly dogs right now, so far I have decided on a disabled retired German Shepard (1), a Rottweiler they got as a puppy (2), a senior chihuahua that is blind (3) and a pug (4). I want another dog that is possible deaf and therefore wears a schock collar for commands etc. Help me guys please 🐒 also for names I don’t have any ideas yet, but the chihuahua is definitely gonna be the princess of the pack and Stu and Billy carry her around a lot!!
Hi! I just wanted to say that you write with such patience and grace. I love reading your posts, I love how you interact and live with your (sometimes challenging) boy, and I love how thoughtfully and simply you share these things with us. Please keep doing it always.
Hi! Thank you so much for such a lovely message ❤ It really means a lot. I know my blog here on tumblr is mostly photos but I do also always love writing about life with Flynn (& my old boy Barney) & I am very pleased others enjoy reading those posts.
Flynn certainly hasn't been the easiest dog but he's taught me a lot over the years & I am very grateful for that. Not just lessons about dog behaviour, how they communicate & how to help them overcome fears - but also more generally, about having patience & a sense of humour in difficult situations! About recognising limitations, while remaining hopeful that change for the better is still possible!
It amazes me that even nearly 9 years after adopting him, Flynn continues making progress. I can't have quite the same relaxed trust around Flynn, which I've had with other dogs I've known for years... but it makes me incredibly happy to know that he's (mostly!) overcome what once seemed like insurmountable fears, & ingrained defensive responses. I reach my hand out to Flynn & where he'd once have likely panicked & bitten... now he wags his tail & gently touches his nose to my fingertips. Normal dog stuff but at the same time, incredible!
My experiences with Flynn - dealing with his initial deep terror of being handled, & his struggles to interact appropriately with people - have also made me all the more appreciative of dogs in general.
Peoples' expectations of dogs - even of pet dogs who barely know "sit" - are SO high. We expect them to happily, trustingly live with us, adapting to our lives, families, habits, homes, routines... They have to learn how we communicate to them - verbally & physically - & dogs have to learn how to clearly but "politely" communicate their needs & feelings to us too (not to mention many dogs are expected to cheerfully mix with strangers, new dogs & other species regularly!). They have to learn not to do things which are completely natural for dogs to do - & learn to accept that we humans will do things that must seem utterly strange to them! The vast majority of dogs cope superbly at navigating our busy, complicated human world & they bring us so much happiness at the same time. It's easy to forget when they're always around us but dogs really are amazing animals...
I was chasing my dog down the beach and bumped into the cast of Critical Role. After apologizing, we hung out 'cause Matt, Ashley, and Marisha thought my dog was cute. I got to talk D&D with them and share cursed character ideas. It was nice
Gym, shooting, walking, back to some running, doing some tracking, seeing some friends, working on some uni tasks.
Our beautiful dogs both have procedures. Max on Friday, Ariana on Tuesday. ❤️🩹
Here they are having a big snooze. Max has a lump on his head which could be an inflamed gland. Ariana had two tumors - one is quite large and it happened very rapidly. They both still love their walks, haven’t gone off their food and are still very much them so I am hoping these are all positive signs for these issues to be benign.
My turtle dog~
I want to thank everyone's kind words on my last post about my grandma's passing. I've been taking it easy and painting my dogs to take my mind off things.
this is Luna's favorite pose
Because I am not in a position to foster a dog, I chose to openly sponsor two rescues (openly = whichever dogs need it, so it can change who it goes to) with my favourite rescue group. My parents had two of their dogs until ripe old ages and I loved them, and all the others I met through the rescue.
Today I got an email with pics of the two current sposorees.. Orca and Addie and 😍😍
