Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Montreal to express their fury about Quebec’s housing reform bill and “unfair” rent increases. They also called for France Elaine Duranceau, the minister responsible for housing, to resign. Park Extension resident Edward Fell was among the demonstrators. The septuagenarian is retired after a 50-year blue collar career. He lives off his pension and says his landlord is doing everything he can to raise his rent. “That cheque is going to mean that I don’t get groceries for a month. I don’t go out for a month. I don’t pay my car insurance for a month,” he explained.

my property manager: won't maintain the laundry machines so my clothes never dry, won't even replace the broken garbage can they took out of the laundry room, increases the amount of quarters you need to pay to do laundry, won't do a simple repair for the baseboard by our stairs for months, replaced the back doors to our building with ones that don't fit properly, inspect our apartments thrice within the past two months, and won't replace the windows so all of our electricity bills increase drastically during winters

also my property manager: we're going to increase the rent on your tiny studio by over $50 we prommy we don't like doing this :( it's just expensive to take care of your building :( :( yes the government gives us money because this is building is affordable housing but we need to bleed you dry or else we'll die :( :( :(

"Landlord Fined $50 In Sudbury Court," Ottawa Journal. July 25, 1942. Page 5. ---- SUDBURY, Ont., July 24.-(CP) - Bernard Minden of Sudbury was fined $50 and costs by Magistrate J. S. McKessock in police court today following his conviction on a charge of increasing rentals contrary to provisions of the price ceiling order of the Wartime Prices and Trade Board. Defendants' counsel, E. C. Facer, argued that rental for the building had never been set definitely and exchange of space between Minden and his tenant, Inkster's Bakery, should be considered. The magistrate said the exchange of space did not offset the admitted $25 increase in rent.

Essentially you have 21 days to challenge your rent increases from the day you receive notice. Doing so will allow you too keep to a lower rent rate, assuming your landlord is chancing it.

Housing is a nightmare. My fiance and I got our apartment in 2021 with rent at 1,000. Now a neighbering unit with the same details is listed for 1,500. It's been 3 years, calm down.
