the potential for embarrassment is what initially prevents him from going through with the idea, especially since it would leave rukia [ @florietiae ] with possible ammunition or blackmail material. but, the more he thinks about it / mulls it over, he thinks less about how humiliating it would be in case anybody else saw the pictures and more about how happy it would make her. especially since it seemed like just the sort of activity she'd be into.
meeting her out in front of ichigo's house, renji grins ; " did you bring a jacket ? i'm not letting you borrow mine again this time. "

✨️Boyfriend Ichigo Headcanons✨️
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: unedited/ college to working adults au
Bleach headcanon suggestions are open
Boyfriend Ichigo who doesn't make fun of the height difference the two of you have. In the first few months of your relationship you catch him staring at you as you try to reach for the item on the highest shelf.
"Usually I get a step stool from the people . . ."
Boyfriend Ichigo who feels stupid after that and just grabs it in silence. Ever since then he's been doing it quitly.
Boyfriend Ichigo who throws Renji a glare when he laughs at your height difference.
Boyfriend Ichigo who uses you as an armrest as you order in front of the machine, eyes narrowed.
Boyfriend Ichigo who sits with his back against yours when you work on your schoolwork together. A shared playlist playing from one of your laptops.
Boyfriend Ichigo whose hand finds yours and gives it a squeeze before going back to work.
Boyfriend Ichigo who tells Isshin to actually behave when you come over for the first time.
Boyfriend Ichigo who's nervous because how you act/ talk to his sisters is his test. Depending on that it's either he breaks up with you.
Boyfriend Ichigo who's relieved when your nervous demeanour turns happy at the sight of his sisters.
"ICHI, YOU HAVE SISTERS?" "Why didn't you tell me?"
"I've always wanted sisters, mom only gave me brothers. Three of them"
Boyfriend Ichigo who sits quiet at the table allowing Karin and Yuzu ask you all the questions they have. Even if it embarrasses him.
Boyfriend Ichigo who wears a gummy smile when he walks you home as you tell him, "Next you should bring them here. Meet my brothers. It'll be cute."
Boyfriend Ichigo who tells you that one day he'll get you presents that you deserve when he gives you a plastic bag of sweets from the convenience store across your university.
Boyfriend Ichigo always being teased by Keigo and the others when he tells them that he's got a girlfriend studying in another university. At first he's angry, irritated even. Overtime he gets used to it.
Boyfriend Ichigo who takes you to his university's event week, holding your hand. He feels all so cool having everyone look at you and then at him. He loves the wide eyes stared they have on you two.
Boyfriend Ichigo who realises that you never have a picture together on his Instagram feed. One that was full of sports tournaments [he's an athlete in my non-soul reaper au] restaurant dinners with Renji and Ikkaku.
Boyfriend Ichigo who watches the likes on your first photo on his Instagram together. It's your hand wrapped around his, walking across the corridors of his university with the caption, 'showing her my world'.
Boyfriend Ichigo who stands embarrassed as you tale pictures of him in his interview outfit, eyes casted down on the ground and a red hue colouring his cheeks.
Boyfriend Ichigo who got his first job and suddenly he's excited with the amount of money in his hold.
"Don't," you tell him, hand hovering above his that held the cash he wanted to give you. "Treat your sisters first. Then your dad."
"But . . ."
"And then your mom to a beautiful bouquet."
Boyfriend Ichigo who falls in love with you more in that moment.
Boyfriend Ichigo who slowly saves from every paycheck to buy you a ring you deserve. One that wasn't for marriage. But to celebrate the growth the two of you went through, the milestones you two achieved.
Boyfriend Ichigo who went from waiting for you at your university's gates to waiting at the ground floor of where you work, work bag slung over his shoulders and sleeves rolled up.
Bonus:
Boyfriend Ichigo and you winning an oversized plush at an arcade and calling it your child.
Boyfriend Ichigo who thinks it's a 'y/n thing' to do. Dressing it up, sparying your perfume on it, etc. And suddenly he's punching Renji to shut up as he puts an old hoodie over it.

RWTGI 36 - 37.2 Thoughts
Forgive the 3 chapters at once, lol. If you want to read my thoughts on the latest chapter, it's on down below!
Chapter 36
If you tell me 2 years ago that Yoshino would sleep in the corridor to wait for Kirishima, I would laugh in your face. I never thought this day would come when she's genuinely worried for him.
Tumblr media
(Then again, he almost died trying to save her and they have been close lately, so that's fair)
WOW okay queen, slayy. Ugh those pillows look so soft-
That aside, I was shocked. I get that she was too tired to change, but really Asuka? Really? Blatant fanservice outta nowhere? Is she trying to grab the male demographic too? Not that it didn't grab the females already with that kind of bod-
WHY do we get Yoshino's full bod, yet we only get a glimpse of Shouma's abs? I demand equality.
Oh Yoshino. What are you, a dog? How could you differentiate Kiri's smell amongst all else??
Wow Kiri really uses his room as a front. He really didn't lie when he said he can't sleep near anyone's presence. He's like an animal hiding inside a deep cave. And to think his real bedroom is the same place where he often received his punishment.
In the raws, Yoshino actually says in a small note, "That's so typical of Kirishima (to keep things spotless)..."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I remember when Kiri always tidied up Yoshino's mess. I thought he only did it because it's for her, but to think he also keep his own place spotless... Does he have OCD? Then again, serial killers like keeping their place clean-
Question: If Kirishima is inside, how the hell did he lock his place using that kind of lock?
It's giving the vibe of a villain' secret lair.
Why is the room so cold though. I thought it's still October/November. Did he not install a heater there, or did he intentionally blast an AC to freeze some randos who try to break in?
My heart JUMPED when I saw him in the corner of the panel. That panel placement is a genius.
I was so relieved when I see him 🥺🥺 I'm glad he's not masochistic enough to keep his wounds infected. At least he got some treatment (hopefully from the hospital, but I'll take what I can get).
Wow, she really made sure she didn't see a dead body.
SCREAMING CREAMING CRYING.
Asuka really knows how to make a cliffhanger.
THANK YOU for the precious glossary, scans team! 💞😭
Chapter 37.1
Awright! Yoshino and Kirishima finally meet! This means Yoshino would call Shouma about Kirishima so he won't report this incident to Renji! Right?
Judging by his passwords, I thought I was getting better at reading him. Turns out he intentionally made it easier to guess? Wow, way to make a person feel like an idiot.
He really takes Tsubaki's advice to heart 🤣 Starting to regret the time when you burn those albums, don't you.
(Did he burn his all his photos because of sentimental reason, or because he didn't want his enemies to find his weakness?)
Okay, so he really went to the hospital. Good.
Kiri got to have some serious enemies if he only goes to a hospital he could trust.
It's been hammered down again and again that he has no one he completely trust except Yoshino. I hate this kind of set up. It's cliché, yet, it's still playing with my heart.
The way he tried to warm her nosee aughh
Those movements, and no resistance from Yoshino at all?? This is new. She must be really worried and thankful to even care about their positions.
Kirishima, you really said some crazy stuff sometimes.
What. The fuck. Do you mean. You're prepared. To be a missing person. And. To be. An unnamed corpse. Just. To keep. Yoshino. Safe.
I know I said he's unhinged, but he still managed to shock me. I'm impressed.
Istg he's really testing my heart lately. Wdym I'm gonna fall again for Miyama Kirishima. It's not gonna happen?? (It happens)
Still no phone call for Shouma. I hope it's on the next chapter.
Chapter 37.2
Woow, a lot of subtext in this episode. You really need to read between the lines to understand their convo.
Everybody trust Kirishima enough (due to his track records) to protect Yoshino so they're not worried for her safety at all; if anything, it'd be Soumei Renji who's in most trouble.
Basically, Renji from Kirigaya Group (Kansai region) has many enemies because he made a pact with Gaku from Tokusa Group (Kantou region) -- to form a peaceful(?) alliance; despite their clashing ideals. Renji also negotiated for his group to join Kantou region despite the difference in region. Both regions have been on feud for 60 years and it should be for a good reason, so there must be a lot of people within Kirigaya and Tokusa who weren't happy with this joint. (I have to revisit ch 1, 7, & 8 to understand this, sigh). Just a reminder, there was a similar attempt in the past, but it ended with a gang war.
Tumblr media
Dang, so even Suo Azami's real identity is faked.
Azami is a drug and weapon dealer?? Fuck.
If we remember ch 26, Akame Hishibe from Tokusa and Azuma Narumi from Kirigaya are conspiring against Renji. Narumi probably aimed to be Kirigaya's number 1 after Renji died, but what about Hishibe? What's his aim? Kirishima said Azami is currently used by yakuza. Could it be, Hishibe made Azami kill Renji because he promised him he'd make a huge profit from drugs and weapons because there's gonna be a gang war once Renji is dead?
I strayed off, lol. Anyways, back to the chapter.
So, as long as Renji is unaware of Yoshino's kidnap, she and Kirishima could live together happily ever after. Now please call Shouma that Kirishima is back safely so he won't have to tell Renji, please.
Tumblr media
Wow Kirishimaa. He is so stupidly honest, but sometimes he's such a crafty little shit. This is the same when he agreed to do paper-rock-scissors with Yoshino because he's aware he'd win. He made Yoshino think she has her own choice, when in fact it's all a set up by him. Real glad Yoshino busted his ass this time though, he can't get away with this forever.
Asuka be trying real hard with this whole show-don't-tell, huh. In short, Kirishima finally told Yoshino directly that he's been obsessed interested in her since 12 years old. He's so in love with her, to the point where her small quirk is so endearing to him. Without her, he would've been bored to death. He'd rather die without her, but he'd do his best to live if he's with her.
Sad, but Yoshino couldn't understand his devotion. She thought based on her understanding, love is something that'd wear out sooner or later. She couldn't really rely on Kirishima's feeling forever; and thus, she payed him with money as an insurance because money's value won't change while feelings might change; or at least that's her logic.
(After all the buildup, she still couldn't trust him completely. Is this bc she's traumatized with his drastic change in ch 2? 😭 Wow Kirishima, you fucked up big time)
Tumblr media
Woow Yoshino, way to gaslight him what he feel is not love 😂 when your understanding of 'love' is probably just a crush 🤣
Tumblr media
Does she realize if they managed to catch Suo Azami, they're essentially preventing a gang war? Probably not.
Tumblr media
Heh. She covered her nose because it's cold. Cute.
Tumblr media
Wdym she placed herself in that side of the bed. She won't be able to escape easily in that position. Kirishima could just lean to her side with his uninjured hand. Is she not sus Kirishima would do something to her? And why she sleep with him in the first place when she could just go back to her room? She really trust him now, huh.
The tearrss. Is that a tear of relieve, happiness? Or is that a tear of tiredness, lol.
Aww, Kiri. He used to say he can't sleep with anyone's presence including Yoshino, but look at him now 🥹
I am glad you guys made a stronger team than ever, but
CAN SOMEONE CONTACT SHOUMA SO HE WON'T TELL ON RENJI PLEASE??
Damn this turned out much longer than I expected, lmao. But that's because these chapters have been bombs. Can't wait for the next one! XD

Is it just me, or is Remy looking eerily similar to Renji and his horrible fashion sense in the Living World?
Please excuse the poor image quality, as I nearly did a spit take and grabbed my phone to snatch a photo from the TV.

Imagine how would the Bleach men react to normal jobs tho...
So I was thinking about how would life be if their s/o had normal jobs and they had to get used to it. Because think about it. For example, I'm working in a pet grooming salon, right?
So it's kinda obvious Komamura would most likely love it, would probably ask for some "stylish" haircuts from time to time and would visit it.
But think about Byakuya. Who probably wouldn't understand what exactly the s/o does for those pets, and once he got it he would accept the "majesty" of those pets who get special treatment. Might even consider getting one just to take it to the groomer.
Or Toshiro, who would be very much okay with it, until he finds hair in the house or on clothes and would get annoyed by it everytime a little more. But he would pay visits and get over it once he sees some cute dogs that love him (and he likes them too, but won't admit it).
I'm even considering Renji, who wouldn't mind the hair at all, and would like to help around the salon, mostly because i think he'd have fun every time the dogs would shake after a bath or would make fun of his s/o for struggling to move the big dogs from a part to another.
Ikkaku would need so much explaining as to why this job even exists, and wouldn't really like it that much until eventually he'd pay a visit and would meet his Nemesis. A small bichon who very much likes to bite and pretend is sent by the devil to this earth. And he would see that as a challenge. He would give it his absolute ALL to bathe and blow dry it. And after that he would keep coming to face the challenges.
And Yumichika! Just think about how much of a critic he would be every time he would see photos of the animals his s/o took care of. He'd be so interested to see the ones who have their tails dyed and would gossip on the owner like "what were they thinkin choosing that haircut AND orange tail??".
I don't know, it's just a thought.

Who Made This Chart????
Please allow me to introduce B3′s newest obsession: The SWA Photobook Chart.
This is from the omake series where the SWA embarks on various failed missions to take paparazzi photos of all the currently-serving captains and uhhh some randos (Hisagi and Kira standing in for their respective captains (with Hinamori respectfully left out of this mess), and Yoruichi for Soi Fon reasons).
But the most fascinating part about this chart is the fact that... Half these people to be photographed are being referred to by their family names and half by their given names (pink boxes)?? WHO WROTE THIS CHART.
I think it offers such great insight into how the SWA talks about all of these people in the privacy of their own meetings and conversations, because regardless of who wrote it (Nanao, most likely, since she was the one explaining it, and I’m not convinced Yachiru can write anything other than her own name) these naming conventions seem to come from multiple sources/indicate a super special SWA shared lexicon. Some thoughts:
All the SWA members are listed by given name, the names they must use with each other (at least in their own company).
Mayuri is Mayuri because the only person who would bring him up in these meetings is Nemu, so he’d be “Mayuri-sama” most often in conversation.
Yoruichi, same, except the only one who’d bring her up is Soi Fon, since no one else would have any reason to know who she is, outside of phantasmic reputation.
ngl it’s breaking my brain a little that Kyouraku is “Shunsui” here but Ukitake is “Ukitake.” Are they not a package deal??? I actually don’t know how Matsumoto refers to her drinking buddy Kyouraku, but from this document I imagine she must call him Shunsui in private--which wins out over Nanao’s presence here, EVEN THOUGH SHE’S PROBABLY THE ONE WHO WROTE THIS ALL DOWN. Big Matsumoto energy. And then Ukitake is still Ukitake, because Kiyone would never allow less.
Zaraki being “Kenpachi” has to be Yachiru’s influence, even though Nanao could not physically bring herself to write “Ken-chan.”
I think for me, Byakuya is the most baffling one here, because LOL WHO IN THE SWA IS ALL THAT FAMILIAR WITH BYAKUYA. While there are indeed other Kuchiki whom Byakuya could be confused with (see: @recurring-polynya‘s theory of 6th Division naming, since there are so many Kuchiki afoot there), at this point there is only one Captain Kuchiki... So this has to be Yachiru’s influence again, with “Byakki” (another thing Nanao was not physically capable of writing). But I love the idea that Yachiru talks about “Byakki” so often in everyone’s minds Byakuya has also become Byakki, even though they would never in a million years refer to him as anything other than Kuchiki-taichou aloud. Everyone’s got a little mental Byakki living rent-free in their brains now. Also dying that Captain Kuchiki Byakuya is “Byakuya” but Hisagi and Kira get to be Hisagi and Kira.
As for Yamamoto? I got absolutely nothing. Scandal. Rukia clearly hasn’t made her mark on the SWA yet (I don’t think Byakuya attending SWA meetings in her stead has happened yet at this point in omake canon, though he’s attended a VC meeting for Renji), because once she does everyone’s mental Byakki gains a mental “YAMAMOTO GENRYUUSAI SHIGEKUNI.”

Fic: Marked Up
A sequel to a fic from last year’s UraIchi, Tattoos(https://archiveofourown.org/works/31586819)
Characters: Kurosaki Ichigo, Urahara Kisuke, Shihoin Yoruichi
Summary: Ichigo came for a tattoo as part of his teenage rebellion. He has found an additional way to rebel. One that is even more enjoyable.
Fic: Marked Up
Grumbling into the pillow, Ichigo felt something trail along his back. There was a smell of something sharp in the air, and it took a moment for him to recognize it as a marker of some sort. He gave another grumble, and a warm hand landed on his hip.
“Hold still,” said a soft voice, and Ichigo listened. He felt a few more strokes of the marker along his back, then the sound of a photo being taken. Once that was done, the hand left his hip.
“There we go,” Kisuke said cheerfully, laying down next to Ichigo again. He showed off the sketch he had made on Ichigo’s back. A figure wrapped in dark lines that seemed to imply pale colors, with a blade, and a crescent moon above with a slash through it. All done in black ink, given that was the marker Kisuke had at hand.
Ichigo was looking at it with wide eyes, impressed with what he saw. Kisuke traced a fingertip up and down Ichigo’s spine, pulling out a shiver from the redhead. “It would look better without all the scratches,” he said with a grin.
There was a shift and Ichigo just looked at the older man. “I wonder where they came from,” Ichigo said drily, though he couldn’t help the silly grin on his face. When he had started making out with Kisuke, he had fully expected the man to take charge. Ichigo was pleasantly surprised that when he pushed, Kisuke had gone with the flow gracefully.
That definitely appealed to Ichigo’s more aggressive side, and he had taken full advantage of that.
Which led to the scratch marks on his back.
Kisuke chuckled, rolling onto his own back and stretched, putting his chest on display, sheets pooled low on his hips. Which showed more than a few bite marks and bruises. That just made Ichigo purr.
“I like the look of that,” he said, reaching out and letting his hand roam Kisuke’s very nice abs. The older man chuckled, relaxed as he watched Ichigo with an easy smile.
“So, what has you looking for a tattoo?” Kisuke asked, relaxed under Ichigo’s touch.
Ichigo shrugged, a little distracted with the feel of warm skin under his fingertips. “One of my friends has some really wild tattoos. The second my dad heard I wanted one, he flat out hard no it.”
That got a laugh from Kisuke. “Operating out of spite. I get that.” He gave Ichigo a lazy smile that made the teenager shiver. Definitely shouldn’t be doing this, but how was he supposed to say no to such a pretty package? “Then I assume you asked Yoruichi-san where she got her ink from?”
A nod. “Yeah. I liked her stuff more than Renji’s. It fit more like what I wanted.” Ichigo pressed his hand flat against Kisuke’s belly, slipping further down under the sheets. “Wasn’t sure what I wanted, but I like your ideas.”
There was a shiver from Kisuke, who was definitely enjoying Ichigo’s attention. “I can come up with a few more designs,” he got out, voice going low and throaty, eyes darkening as he looked at Ichigo. “Let you pick out what you like best.”
“Later,” Ichigo said, leaning in for a kiss. “Though I like this payment method.”
“I do as well,” laughed Kisuke against Ichigo’s lips. Then they both got distracted again.
***
Later, Ichigo woke up alone, with a note on the table letting him know Kisuke was downstairs for an appointment. Which made sense, since the man did have a business to run. The note directed him to another note in the kitchen, and a pile of takeout menus. Ichigo looked at them, then went to look into the fridge.
Then went back to the takeout menus. Whatever was in that fridge was not food. Some things that looked like inks, but various other things that he didn’t want to poke at too closely. Flipping through the menus, he found one that looked good, and had a few things already circled on it. Seemed like they were favorites, and Ichigo glanced at the note again. It just said to order what he wanted and have them put it on Kisuke’s tab.
Well, he was hungry. They had definitely worked up an appetite, so he ordered for them both and headed down. Just to peek around the main area of the shop.
There was music playing, something soft and what sounded classical. But it definitely was in a foreign language, and he heard Kisuke talking softly to someone, the faint noise of the needle a barely heard sound.
A soft noise was his warning before Benihime wrapped herself around his ankles. Ichigo blinked down at her, and then heard a chuckle from the counter by the front door. He glanced over, and flushed as he saw Yoruichi looking at him, all smug and pleased.
“Didn’t realize you were still here,” she said with delight. “When Tessai asked me to cover for him, I figured I’d get a chance to just tease Kisuke.”
“I hate you,” Ichigo said flatly. “So much.”
“No you don’t,” she sang. “You appreciate and adore me, because I am going to let you fuck my darling little brother.”  Ichigo’s brows raised, because he was pretty sure that she couldn't stop him. Then Yoruichi continued. “Without telling Kukaku. For now.”
That one was a hit. Kukaku would torment him with it, but the biggest issue was she’d eventually get drunk while around his dad. Then his cousin would ruin Ichigo’s life by spilling the beans. She was a gossipy drunk.
“I should mention your dad knows who Kisuke is,” Yoruichi said. “He will come and try to punch my sweet little brother.” She batted her eyes, still grinning like the cat who got the cream. “He’d be so offended that you let yourself get into bed with the adopted Shihoin brat.”
Ichigo narrowed his eyes. “You are just trying to make Kisuke look even more appealing to me, aren’t you?”
“Maybe,” Yoruichi said with a grin, her eyes bright as she looked at him. “Though you are still here, and it’s been most of the day.”
It was what? Ichigo scrambled to actually look at the time on his phone, then cursed and opened it to send his sisters a text.
“You know, he let you sleep in his bed. Alone in his private space.” The tease was gone from her voice now, and Ichigo blinked at her. It was always unnerving when Yoruichi got serious. It reminded him that she could actually be really dangerous.
“What about it?” he asked slowly, trying to figure out where she was going with it. He met her eyes for a long moment, and then she shrugged her shoulders.
“It’s just an observation. Kisuke was free and easy with his favors, but he rarely lets people stay in his space. I actually thought he’d shooed you out before coming down for his appointment.” She relaxed back into her chair, pulling her phone out and letting her attention focus on it. “That he let you sleep means something. Should consider what it might be.”
Then she was all grins and amused eyes again. “Maybe you weren’t the only one who was fascinated at first sight.”  A small laugh. “Actually, knowing my aunts and uncles? They’d be furious. I think they want to be really old school and marry me and Kisuke to each other.” She winked at Ichigo, all pleased and happy again.
“Maybe you two match more than I thought. Not just because your kinks line up.”
Ichigo felt like he should remind her that he hated her. So he did.
But hearing her laugh made him smile, and he snagged a chair so they could talk. Though he did text his sisters and let them know he’d be out for the night.
Because there was still a lot of planning and bargaining to do with Kisuke.

Congrats on 15k followers!
Between Tides is probably my favorite fic of yours, and I'd love to hear what different takes you had for the cover backstory.
Between Tides was the first really long fic I ever wrote, and I had not yet developed my current outlining system. Suffice it to say, I did not have the "mystery" part of the plot very well determined in my head when I started. There were originally a couple more important characters that got cut, and part way through the story, Renji was supposed to get a part-time job teaching at a martial arts dojo (for plot reasons), and the original cover story was related to that. I guess I probably had to rewrite it when I junked that subplot. I had legitimately forgotten about this until I was looking through my notes. I have to say, it is astonishing how well the plot-plot of Between Tides hangs together, given the extremely seat-of-my-pants manner in which it was written.
Also, here's another fun fact that I had forgotten until I found it in there: the name Satonaka came from the main character of the film After Life, a movie about a counseling center for the recently dead . I watched it in my college Japanese film course and it permanently rewired my brain. It was out of print for a long time, but I just now found out that it was re-released by the Criterion Collection in 2021 and guess what this bitch will be doing with her 7-day free trial?
Enough of that. Here is the OG Satonaka teen love drama. I am warning you now that this is super-duper unedited and I'm kind of embarrassed about it, but I love you all very much, so I am letting you look at it anyway.
🌊 🌊 🌊
Fortunately, Rukia had now been doing this long enough that she was starting to be given tasks that she had done before. The sensation of responding “I just emailed it to you!” or “Check the printer!” every time her boss demanded something held some of the same satisfaction as a well-executed squad maneuver.
Unfortunately, this also meant that when the afternoon rolled around, Sunadori crashed extra hard. She moved her chair over to Rukia’s desk, and sat, leaned over, with her cheek on Rukia’s blotter.
Rukia wasn’t sure, but she thought they might be best friends now.
“I think I want to get back together with Haruta,” she sighed despondently.
“Hmmm,” Rukia replied. “Are there... pros and cons?”
“Did I mention we dated for a while? When we were much younger?”
“I could tell.”
“You could tell?”
“It’s...a common scenario,” Rukia hedged, glancing at the photo of Takeru on her desk.
“He was so angry about his dad’s death,” Sunadori sighed. “And it was like he blamed me. I couldn’t be around him. But he seems different now that he’s back from college. Everyone’s really sick of him talking about his aikido class, but I think it’s really helped him find himself.”
“Hmmm,” Rukia repeated. She was pretty sure this conversation was not generally appropriate for a Living World employment situation. On the other hand, she needed to get more intel on Oga, and this seemed like a really prime opportunity. Also, in the grand scheme of inappropriate captain-lieutenant dynamics she had heard stories about, this didn’t even merit an eyeblink.
“Mr. Satonaka seems very nice. I’m sure you two had a fairy-tale romance.” Sunadori stared at his photo wistfully. She was obviously an oversharer to start with, and for some reason, she was already weirdly invested in her employee’s love life. Rukia decided to throw out some bait.
She blew all the air out of her cheeks. “Hardly. It’s a long, stupid story, it wouldn’t be appropriate for work.”
Sunadori sat up sharply. Hook, line, and sinker. “It’s the week before New Year’s, no one gets anything done anyway. Tell me everything.”
It might seem counterintuitive for Rukia to tell Sunadori a long story when what she really wanted was for Sunadori to tell *her* things. But that wasn’t the way these things worked. She would share a long, juicy story, and then Sunadori would tell her more than she wanted to know, probably forever.
Also, Rukia was really quite fond of the romance manga backstory she and Renji had made up. He’d gotten to pull it out a few times, but she hadn’t, yet. She was really looking forward to telling the whole thing to Orihime when this was all over. Well, here was her big chance.
“Are you sure you want to hear this?”
Sunadori stared at her. “Stop stalling.”
“Okay, well, so, I took martial arts as kid. Our neighbors ran a dojo, an old family school, similar to jujutsu. I took it pretty seriously, marched through the belts, had a room full of trophies. When I was old enough, I started helping with the beginner classes to help pay for my own. I think I was fourteen when Takeru started coming, he would have been thirteen. He was taller than everyone in his class by a head, and he was terrible. Most of the beginners were little. I mean, you can start at any age, it’s just rarer. Anyway, Numata-sensei had me work with him one-on-one so he could get the basics down and move to a group with people closer to his own age. I was really worried that he was gonna be a jerk about having a short girl teach him this stuff, but he was actually very polite, and a good listener, and he started getting better.
“We ended up talking a lot, and it turned out that he didn’t have a very nice family life, and he’d been getting into trouble a lot at school, which is why his mom put him in martial arts. I lived right down the street from the dojo, and I guess he just started coming by after class, and the next thing I knew, he was just at my house all the time.
“For a long time, I thought he liked being around my family as much as he liked being around me. My mom made him sweets all the time, which she wouldn’t make for us. My dad called him ‘sport’. I have an older brother and he’s just a total stiff. He was the captain of the football team and the top student and has had his entire career planned out since he was 8 years old, and Takeru just idolized him.”
“Where’s your brother now?” Sunadori asked hopefully.
“He’s a banker in Tokyo,” Rukia replied.
“Married?”
“Only to his work. But he’s super married to his work. Would you rather hear about him?”
Sunadori flapped one hand. “No, you can get back to the story.”
Rukia sighed and hunched her shoulders. “This went on for a couple of years. Takeru was getting really good at jujutsu. Not as good as me, but we were competing at the same level, and sparring all the time. We went to regionals the year I was 16, and dominated so badly that the championship round was between me and him.” Rukia’s face went stiff. Acting. “He beat me. He knew my moves so well that he had worked out a counter-offense that he was saving until he had to face me in competition.” Renji had made up this entire part and refused all edits of it. “Afterwards, he insisted on walking me home, even though I wouldn’t speak to him, and he stopped me out in front of my house, and told me that now that he had defeated me, he felt like he could finally ask me if I would be his girlfriend.”
 Sunadori gasped.
“It was really lame,” Rukia editorialized. “It was terrible. The worst.”
“You said yes, though? Right? Please tell me you said yes.”
“Yeah, of course I did. I was 16.”
Sunadori sighed, completely taken in. Point Renji.
“Anyway, we dated for a year or so, and then his dad, who was barely there to begin with, skipped out completely. He fell apart.” She frowned. “I tried to be there for him, but I was in my senior year, dealing with exams and college entrances, and I don’t think I realized how badly he was spiraling. Takeru dropped out of school, he said he needed to get a job to help his mom. Except he didn’t, he-- y’know, I don’t want to go into the details. My family, his mom, Sensei, our friends-- we all tried to help him, and he pushed us away. My brother was off at college in Tokyo at that time, and he called up Takeru and reamed him out, which let me tell you, was not helpful. Finally, I told him that I couldn’t be with him anymore. Then I moved away to college and blocked his number, as if he was ever going to call me again.”
Sunadori looked downright misty.
“You had to do the same with Oga?” Rukia asked, grimly.
Sunadori shrugged. “Oga never… got in any real trouble. He was just… mean. Hurtful.”
Rukia nodded. “Takeru had been in and out of trouble the whole time we were together. I never saw that side of him, he hid it pretty well. When we were apart, I told myself that he had lied to me, that he’d never been as good as I thought. But people are complicated, you know? And I dated a few other guys, and I knew none of them were as good as Takeru’s good side."
She took a deep breath. The next part was going to call for some fake tears, which was actually one of Rukia’s specialties.  “So, I was home for New Year’s my senior year of college, and Takeru’s mom comes by. I guess she and my mom had kept in contact, although my mom had never mentioned it. She told me that the summer I left for school, he had enlisted in the JGSDF, and that there had been an accident-- I mean, it wasn’t an accident, it was an IED-- but he was in the hospital. He was going to live, but he they weren’t sure he was going to keep the leg.” One tear, sniff, wipe it away with the heel of her hand.
Sunadori looked downright stricken.
“I mean, he had been a downright rat-bastard, but we had some good times, too, and his mom said he had cleaned himself up a lot, so I thought, maybe I’ll write him a letter. The guy’s in the hospital, may end up with a prosthesis, the least I can do is send him a get-well card. I sat down and wrote him a twelve page letter. I didn’t know I still had twelve pages of feelings left for him. I stuffed that in my desk, and got him a card from the drug store instead. I felt bad after I sent it, so I wrote him a one-page letter of the absolute blandest nothing, and sent that to him. And he wrote back.”
“What did he say?” Sunadori asked breathlessly.
“It wasn’t very long. Thanks for writing mostly. That he hoped I was well. There was nothing in it that indicated he wanted anything from me or expected anything of me.” She frowned. “It broke my heart. So I wrote him a longer letter, just nice things, happy things, things that I remembered would make him smile. And he wrote back to that, too, and then we started texting, and calling. His leg got better. I was back at school, finishing up my last semester, when they let him go home, to his mom’s. I took the train home that weekend, just to see him. I didn’t tell him I was coming.”
“Oh, how romantic! What did he say when he saw you?”
“Well, here’s the thing. You should tell people when you’re visiting them, especially when they’re just out of the hospital. He looked terrible and he was in a lot of pain, and I think he was a little embarrassed. But that’s when I really knew that he had changed. Because through all that pain, he was so careful with everything he said and so gentle, all he cared about was that he didn’t accidentally push me away again. At the end of the weekend, he made me promise that I wouldn’t let him distract me from school and that I would have a strong finish.”
“Mmm, I would have been distracted.”
Rukia’s brows creased. “Ma’am, I assure you I worked very hard on all my coursework, and am a very qualified employee.”
Sunadori rolled her eyes. “You already have the job, get on with it.”
“Well, the job market was pretty tight, and my dad knew someone who needed some part time office help, so I moved back home after graduation. I found out that Takeru’s mom was too busy to get him to PT most of the time, which was downright stupid, since it was basically a miracle that he kept the leg at all. So I started driving him around and at first it was just making sure he made it to all his appointments, and helping him with his veterans affairs paperwork, and then we were just always together again.”

(I'm about to send too many of these. Please feel free to pick and choose. XD) Hinamori -- 🎁 - How do they feel about their birthday/birthdays in general?🤡 - What’s something dumb they’re embarrassed about?💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Misc. ask meme
Momo Hinamori
🎁 - How do they feel about their birthday/birthdays in general? : In honor of her birthday I assume :P Hinamori likes her birthday, but she doesn't like to make a big deal out of it. She doesn't set up a party or any event to celebrate it; at most she would invite some of her friends to go to dinner or a tea shop. She gets the warm and fuzzies when someone wishes her 'Happy Birtdhay' or she receives gifts from friends.
🤡 - What’s something dumb they’re embarrassed about?: she has a secret liking for romance novels. She's embarrassed by it because she's known for liking mystery and drama novels what are well-written, thought provoking, and often highly regarded, and she worries that if someone discovered her reading a romance book they'd just think she's reading it for the trashiness. In reality, she's drawn to romances that are more light-hearted and fluffy, usually involving a slow burn, plenty of melodrama and convoluted 'will-they-wont-they' dynamics and sometimes unintentionally hilarious moments.
💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?: she doesn't go out of her way to find or watch horror movies, but she doesn't mind watching them with a group. She has a fond memory of watching one with several friends, including Renji and Izuru, when TVs were first rolled out in the Seireitei. She remembers being freaked out a few times but more than that, she can't help but smile or chuckle remember Renji, Izuru, and Hisagi's reactions to certain scene (one of them Hisagi even jumped and screamed when a bat suddenly appeared at the end of the film). In general, if it's a well-written film with not too many jumpscares she enjoys it.
Orihime Inoue
🌳 - What’s their extended family like? She loves her sisters-in-law, with her and Yuzu sharing cooking tips and going shopping together with Karin. She can get swept up in Isshin's enthusiasm for whatever he's cheering about, and one time she asked Isshin if he had any photos of Ichigo when he was younger and of Masaki; the reaction from Isshin was so loud it could be heard all the way to Ryuken's house. He showed all the photo albums, going into detail about each one.
She is still in contact with the aunt who financially supported her during high school. This aunt has actually been there for Orihime a few times: first, she helped Sora and Orihime to get away from their abusive parents, offering to let them stay with her until they could find a place to live (however, Sora had already got a place), then she briefly came to Karkura Town after Sora's death to offer Orihime financial help until she completed high school, and she came to Ichigo and Orihime's wedding, staying a few days after all was said and done to get to know Ichigo better. When Ichigo met this aunt, he thanked her for helping Orihime
📱 - What social media do they use the most? Can see her being on something like Instagram, where she'd mostly share some of her bizarre cooking creations. She was hesitant to join social media, but with Rangiku's prompting and with Rukia wanting to get updates from the World of the Living, she created an account. She has a small following who genuinely like her creations and asked for recipes.
🗺️ - What languages do they speak? (post-series/epilogue): she's not bad at English. If an English-speaking tourist came up to her asking for directions or she can see they struggled with Japanese, she offers to help them. With Ichigo working as a translator, she can practice with him and is learning a few bits and pieces from other languages - so far she likes French and is thinking about taking up classes when she gets a chance.
Toshiro Hitsugaya
💝 - What gestures do they really appreciate? How do you get on their good side?: oh boy, here we go:
If I had to pick one of him, I'd say Hitsugaya's love language would be acts of service - he shows his love by doing things for the people he cares about, whether they be big or small and often without them having to ask. When someone does it for him though, he doesn't know how to react. At worst he'll get flustered, which can come across as him being annoyed, which then leads to a misunderstanding and he has to explain himself. At best, he'll thank them, maybe give a small smile, and remember what they did for years to come.
In terms of gifts, he isn't really a fan of receiving them. He appreciates thoughtful gifts with a practical use - like tea mugs, pens or writing tools, that sort of stuff. For those he's close to though, he's more accepting and appreciative of other gifts, like food and small decorations for his desk(usually little figurines or that one time he got a small pot plant...and neglected to water it as often as he should've because he was too busy working).
He's not a fan of physical affection, but there are exceptions with certain people. He's willing to accept hugs from Orihime, Hinamori, and Granny, and he won't admit it, but he likes it when Hinamori holds his hand.
He appreciates hard work and honesty, and recognises that everyone had a limit (someone's 40% will be someone giving it their 100%, and someone else's 100% is someone else giving it 40% if you will). He tries to inspire his division to be diligent and hard working and appreciates everyone's efforts, and when he sees a division member is burnt out to take leave or if they're struggling with a task or with training, he'll help them (usually by assigning them to another division member who can help, and all the better if they can help each other in different or similar areas they're struggling in). If he sees someone is being careless without regard, is dishonest or not putting any effort in, that's usually a once way trip into his bad books. It's where Rangiku comes in, because she will take the subordinate aside and try to find out why they're acting this way. If she sees it's a personal problem or that there's potential for them, she'll tell Hitsugaya and he'll weigh up what to do next.
To get on his good side, all one has to do is respect his title, be a hard worker, don't be loud or impulsive, and not threaten those he cares about be honest.
🤔 - What’s something they’ll never understand?: how anyone can like shopping. Hitsugaya gets tired at just the thought of going shopping to buy food let along clothes, housewares, anything! Myabe the whole getting-dragged-along-by-Rangiku-to-go-shopping-almost-every-month doesn't help.
🧑‍🦰 - Have they ever dyed their hair? Ever cut it themself?: Yes, and let us never speak of it again. He tried once to cut his fringe, wanting to save on going to the barber; it was early in the morning, he wasn't completely awake and thought it couldn't be that hard to cut hair...he was wrong, very wrong. Most times he'll go to a hair dresser or barber, and a few times when he was a third seat Rangiku has cut his hair (she learned to cut her own from a young age).
Thanks for sending these in! :D

hello. pictured below are eight different images from a horrific collection of pictures i’ve acquired over time that remind me of world of the living era renji specifically (with explanation!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
to start, i thought about arranging them all at the very bottom and explaining myself beforehand, but that’s boring. the pictures should be experienced first before trying to understand my thought process. to make things easy, i’ll explain it row by row.
first things first, i consider a good handful of characters in bleach to be disaster bisexuals. some examples: all the karakura kids, hisagi; i don’t consider renji to be as disasterous, but he’s definitely up there. more straight-leaning too. he thinks ichigo calling him an ex-bisexual after marrying rukia is the funniest thing ever BTW. and speaking of ichigo, him and renji fit the second pic to a T. just bros hanging out playing video games in karakura town, nothing to see here XD
second row is party renji. this is where he’s most bisexual. he takes pics like that tom hardy one, sends it out via soul communicator to a groupchat with all the lieutenants, then rukia, then ichigo. they’re all reminded by one picture alone that renji is kind of gay. the mads pic is the one he shares the morning after. (byakuya gets his hands on one of these photos at some point. renji is horrified to go back to seireitei)
third row is just stuff that reminds me of renruki. i’m so obsessed with the idea of tiny little rukia just slutting renji out. it’s so funny. she’s so small, like a bunny, and he’s massive with full-body tattoos and a terrifying hairline that pulls back into thick red hair. but she sluts him out. side note: he’s super into it.
last one is sort of just a body headcanon? i guess. i like to think renji is beefy. i feel like he kind of has to be to swing zabimaru around the way he does, and for how long he’s been doing it. i don’t know how tall he is and icba to look it up, but he’s just a big ol boy. towers over everyone. ichika and kazui like to swing back and forth on his arms like monkey bars. they’re totally weightless. if he’s too busy for them to mess around, he just T-poses and watches them try and fail to jump up and latch onto his biceps. lets say he’s 6ft5 (don’t look at me like that. let me have my moment)

Flash Fire Photography
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/LYM0NnA
by AriadneKurosaki
The annual Eighth District Firefighter Calendar is always a big hit, raising millions of yen for charity and causing more than a few fires of the metaphorical kind. When her boss gets sick at the last minute, photographer Kuchiki Rukia steps in to make sure the project stays on schedule. It's just a photo shoot, and she's a professional. It can't be that hard to take pictures of a bunch of firefighters for a good cause, even if they're posing shirtless.
She didn't really count on one particular firefighter being hotter than the fires he's supposed to put out...

For @whipplefilter - Character bingo, pt. 2
Kuchiki Rukia - After several hours and a million outfit changes, she chose this design
Tumblr media
Rukia, Rukia, Rukia. Where do I begin?
They are LITERALLY me!
Okay, so this is untrue. I feel like I have a greater affinity with her ill-fated sister (because apparently it only takes 0.003 seconds of screen time to make it to Official Blorbo No. 1), but my initial introduction to Bleach happened when someone insisted I was just like our leading lady. Here’s why.
1. I am short. Here’s a collection of photos of me standing next to normal sized human beings:
Tumblr media
In photo #1 I am wearing heels. Mr GF (with googly Monchi eyes, not boobs as he initially thought) actually has his knees bent.
2. I have a flair for dramatics. The photo at the bottom right was part of the press release for one of our productions. Have I ever used this to get out of trouble? No comment.
3. I have wicked art skills. Here’s a guinea pig in a bath. Please note his shower cap:
Tumblr media
4. If I had a sword, I probably wouldn’t hesitate to run a 15 year old through, either. I mean, have you met teenagers?
Whatever the case may be, I find that living by the “What would Rukia do?” philosophy quite helpful. It usually involves a lot of shouting and charging at things before stabbing them. It’s very therapeutic.
Not as deep as they seem:
Let’s face it. She’s full of shit. Turns out if you put on a haughty-enough expression when you start spouting nonsense, people have a tendency to either (a) actually believe you, or (b) remain sceptical but go along with it anyway.
Besides, if Covid-19 taught us anything, it’s that being isolated and staring out at the world from behind a tiny window will lead to extraordinarily lengthy soliloquys held in front of the bathroom mirror about how the beautiful weather is making a mockery of our misery. Right? Right???
Free space/ Wasted potential/ Not enough screen time:
As far as I am concerned, any screen time without Rukia is a waste. I didn’t mark it on the board, however, because logically I know that this is ridiculous. But... Wasted potential? How about the potential of seeing her wasted? We’ve seen Rangiku, Izuru and Shūhei getting bladdered, but who wouldn’t want to see others, especially our little Blorbo-Gremlin, in the same state?
I want to see her and Byakuya telling each other shitty jokes and increasingly ludicrous life stories. I want to see her hauling Renji through the Seireitei singing bawdy Inuzuri pub songs together. I want to see her introducing the SWA to Just Dance and karaoke nights.
Is this to much to ask for? Is it?

Message: "Hey, I noticed you're into cooking. Any signature dish you're known for? I'm curious to try it." /@thorneprincess
Online Dating Starters ||| Accepting @thorneprincess
Work was slow, to be expected when there was a downpour outside. The cafe was empty save for a handful of people sitting at the tables, nursing coffees and sweet pastries, waiting for the rain to lighten up.
His phone buzzed, alerting him to a new notification. Curiously, Renji reaches over and checks it. Oh. Right. He'd downloaded that dating app, and haphazardly filled out his profile late last night.
Tumblr media
To be honest, ever since he'd moved to this city, he was feeling a little lonely. He didn't know anyone, and working two part time jobs didn't leave him much time to hang out and meet new people. So, dating apps it was. He hadn't expected to receive any messages though, since his profile wasn't fully fleshed out yet.
Swiping on his phone, he opened up the message and took a quick look, bringing a small smile to his face. So they took the time to take a look at his profile and go through his pictures. A plus in his books. Since he did work in the food industry, many of his photos were of food.
Quickly he typed out a response: [Abarai Renji 2:39 pm]: Hey there, thanks for the message! I actually really like baking. You like sweets? By the way, name's Abarai Renji. 26. Well I mean, you probably already know that, but figured some proper introduction couldn't hurt!
He takes a look at her profile. Akiko, huh? Pretty cute.

So, I don't know if anyone remembers, but back in the days of yore when I wrote my Dad Friend Renji Fic, we all joked about Chad teaching Renji what a meme is, and this is literally what that is. Writing has been slow lately, so I thought I'd take a shot at writing a lighthearted drabble between the two underrated dudes of the six hearts club. Set during the Advance Team arc, when these two were training together.
No Byakuyas were harmed in the making of this fic. | Read on Ao3
The shoji slid open with a swish.
“What does this mean?”
Chad blinked. It was not uncommon for Abarai Renji to be loud and abrasive, even so as to announce his arrival via heavy footfalls minutes before he got somewhere. What Chad hadn’t expected, however, was the phone being thrust into his face. He squinted.
On screen was a slightly blurry picture of a tall, sharp-nosed man with long, glossy hair that was pinned back with a kenseikan. His hands were locked over his belly, a solemn frown on his face. Chad zoomed into the picture. The man seemed familiar enough, dressed in the standard Soul Society Captains’ robe; Chad was about 80% sure this was the Captain Ichigo had squared off with on Sokyoku Hill, but he couldn’t be too sure.
“What am I supposed to be looking at?” he replied slowly, eyes flicking up to Renji’s face. He looked distressed, like he’d spent a good ounce of his brain cells trying to decipher the photo. Was that what he’d been trying to do during their training break?
“Read the caption,” Renji insisted, thrusting the phone further into Chad’s purview even as the latter inched back. ‘Rukia [snowflake][crown]’ it said, on the top bar of the phone. The picture, however, was artfully captioned,
‘You know he had to do it to em [sunglasses]’
Chad chuckled, the soft sound of laughter passing through his nose with a small ‘hmph.’
“What?” Renji demanded, taking the phone back and glaring at the photo again. He tilted it, and then also tilted his head -- like that would unlock some secret message. “I don’t get it. He had to do what? To whom?” He frowned, narrowing his brows at Chad. “This is a prank, isn’t it? Did Rukia set you up to this?” His ‘Rukia Put Someone Up To This’ radar was vibrating with an alarming intensity.
Chad shook his head, surprised. Then, “Do you not have memes in Soul Society?”
“Memes?” Renji echoed.
Chad fished out his own phone, thumbing through screens and tapping at the buttons thoughtfully. Renji sank down to the stairs and sat beside him, peering over his shoulder curiously.
“He had to do it to ‘em,” Chad explained, nudging his phone into Renji’s hand. There was a man, standing in the same pose as Byakuya, spouting a seemingly non-threatening smile at the camera. Renji glanced at the picture of Byakuya, then back at the meme, and a slow grin spread over his face as he snorted.
“Ha!” he said, giving both pictures a once-over again. “That’s actually pretty funny. Thanks Chad.” He took his phone back, a self-satisfied smile on his face as he began typing back.
“I could...show you some more, if you’d like,” Chad suggested.
The idea of having an edge over Rukia in the meme game suddenly sounded very appealing to Renji. “Hell yes!” He clapped his hands together in enthusiasm, inching closer to Chad. “Show me the memes. Show me all the memes.”
Chad smiled.
omake
Rukia [snowflake][crown]: Ichigo's been SNORING for the last six hours str8, it's killing me!!!!!
Renji [monkey]: this is so sad alexa play despacito

"the world of stool cabinet fabric bed chest sofa shelf light wagon"
So I saw this post, where it’s pointed out that Ichigo is reading a book that just seems to be complete nonsense. Like LOL is that a weird translation error or some kind of random lorem ipsum generated text? Someone really just wanted to practice their bubble lettering? Reading a book about random furniture doesn’t really seem like something a typical teenager would be into. But, I guess Ichigo isn’t really a typical guy…
Taking another close look at this picture though, I realized that the text on on page of the book isn’t just random scribbles.
Tumblr media
I can make out the words “first xxx … designed by Le Corbusier.” Ok well... that seems like it might be a real person, and not just some random letters strung together.
Turns out, Le Corbusier was a Swiss-French architect and designer, among other things, and he’s famous for being one of the pioneers of modern architecture.
Let’s zoom out on the photo and see what’s going on here, and why that detail might even be relevant.
Tumblr media
When you search “Le Corbusier” the first search suggestion that comes up is “Le Corbusier chair.” I had never heard of this guy before, but I’ve definitely seen his designs. Probably the most famous is the Grand Confort armchair (aka the LC-1, LC-2, and LC-3), which I’m sure you’ve seen around. It has a very distinctive square shape with a metal structural frame. According to wikipedia, in the show Sherlock, Holmes sits in a Grand Confort. I’m sure you’ve seen chairs of this design in other places too.
Tumblr media
So maybe the title of Ichigo’s book isn’t as random as we initially thought. But Renji, Rukia, and Ichigo clearly aren’t sitting in arm chairs. They’re sitting in some sort of reclined chaise. Not only that, they’re all sitting in the same type of chair… which seems deliberate.
This is another famous Le Corbusier chair, called the B306 chaise lounge. I looked up these bad boys, and holy shit, there was one that sold at a Sotheby’s auction for ~$10,000 USD. These are some expensive chairs our gang has parked their butts in. Given that this chair is not as immediately recognizably famous as the Grand Confort though, why are they sitting in them?
Tumblr media
A little digging reveals that while this chair has Le Corbusier’s name attached to it, his most famous chair designs were actually created by an amazing woman named Charlotte Perriand. While working for Le Corbusier, some of the things she designed included the aforementioned armchair and chaise lounge, as well as the B301 slingback chair (just look up this last chair because I'm sure you'll also recognize it). Perriand was only 24 when she was hired by Le Corbusier, and because of the era and the fact that she was a woman, her accomplishments have largely been overshadowed by (and attributed to) her more famous boss. It was amazing reading about some of her designs because they are so inspired and almost ahead of their time, such as convertible/functional furniture (such as movable counters, sliding shelves, and extendable dining tables).
This all seems well and good, but why is this relevant or important at all to this Bleach art? Well, it turns out that Perriand actually spent some time in Japan as an official advisor for industrial design to the Ministry for Trade and Industry. While in Japan she advised the government on raising the standards of design in Japanese industry to develop products for the West.
In 1940, with World War II underway, Perriand accepted an offer from the Japanese Ministry of Trade and Industry to serve as an adviser and consultant; the appointment was negotiated by her former studio mate Junzō Sakakura, who had recommended Perriand on the merits of her Corbusian credentials. Rather than proselytize the virtues of tubular steel, however, Perriand threw herself into the tradition of Japanese woodcraft. In a brilliant gesture of formal transposition, she worked with Japanese craftspeople to reengineer her steel-frame chaise lounge in bamboo, capitalizing on the material’s tensile properties while retaining the sinuous contour of her prototype. (x)
Tumblr media
I love this redesigned lounge that forgoes the leather and steel (as seen in the classic version of the chair and depicted in the drawing) and instead uses bamboo. She was really a fascinating person and I highly encourage you to look her up.
I don’t really know where I was going with this, but I thought it was amazing to see the amount of thought that went into creating this single drawing. There’s so much to unpack! On the surface, it’s one where you just go “oh wow, cool fashion” (lol Renji’s fuck hat). A second glance reveals that there’s enough detail that it makes you question why it’s there. And a deeper examination unearths this whole world about furniture design and history that you’d never even imagined you’d learn about from a single Bleach art.

At the End
Pairing: Ichigo Kurosaki/Rukia Kuchiki
Rating: T
Warnings: Major Character Deaths
Summary: At the end, the black sun and the white moon fall so that the worlds they protect do not. Canon-divergent and angsty.
At the End
Yhwach’s promise echoes through the air as he leaps through the portal. Rukia and Renji rush forward toward Ichigo, whose body is broken. Orihime is healing him beneath the dome of her Sōten Kisshun, and she is crying.
“I couldn’t stop him with my shield,” she whimpers. Rukia wraps a comforting arm around her friend and watches Ichigo’s wounds heal.
“We can’t just let him get away, we have to go,” Renji says as he pulls Zabimaru from his hip.
“You already know we can’t do it without Ichigo,” Rukia chides. Ichigo’s eyes open and the look in his eyes is both relieved and tender as his eyes meet Rukia’s.
“Rukia…”
“I’m here, Ichigo,” she murmurs.
The yellow glow of Sōten Kisshun dissipates and Ichigo sits up, grabbing for his blade. “Yhwach went through the portal. We have to go after him – we have to do it now,” he says, and leaps to his feet.
Ichigo grabs her hand and she stands as well.
Renji and Orihime are both looking at them. “We’re coming with you,” Renji says.
But Rukia shakes her head. “Go back and find the wounded. Orihime’s powers are needed there, and you need to guard her.” When Orihime opens her mouth to object, Rukia says gently, “My bankai will kill you. Go, save who you can.”
Then she kisses Orihime lightly on the forehead. Her free hand touches Renji’s arm lightly. Ichigo ruffles Orihime’s hair and nods at Renji. It feels like they’re saying goodbye.
Then Ichigo and Rukia take off at a run toward the portal. “Rukia,” he says when they are no more than a step away. His eyes catch hers and there is more in them, as there has always been, than just worry for a friend.
“I know.” Her mouth finds his in a hard kiss and then she unsheathes Sode no Shirayuki and awakens her shikai. They turn back to the portal and leap through.
And Yhwach is there, grinning with his too-many-teeth and laughing at them from under his mustache. “My son,” he says. “And one of your weaklings. Is this the best you can do?”
Ichigo just scoffs but Rukia looks up at the touch of a familiar – too familiar – reiatsu, for Aizen is there.
Soul Society’s most powerful prisoner nods to Ichigo and attacks Yhwach, slashing with Kyōka Suigetsu before flying away. But then Rukia can see an image of herself attacking Yhwach and being beaten back, an image of Ichigo leaping forward and losing an arm even though he was right beside her, and –
“Now, Kurosaki,” Aizen’s voice calls, and Rukia realizes he is using Kyōka Suigetsu’s illusions again.
Ichigo is by her side again and they look at one another before he rushes forward. Ichigo’s Getsuga Tenshō blazes forth in a tidal wave of bright yellow reiatsu. The blast overcomes Yhwach, who screams his pain. Rukia smiles.
And then black energy washes over them all again, and they both know it wasn’t enough. Ichigo falls back by her side and their hands find one another. His mouth finds hers once more and there is a whisper between them (I love you. We have to. I know. I love you too.) before they part. In the blackness Rukia calls, “Bankai. Hakka no Togame.” White energy blasts around her and the world is plunged into the bone-breaking cold of absolute zero. She is clad in a white kimono and jewels of ice, and Sode no Shirayuki in her hands is a long, beautiful blade of ice. White ribbon writhes around her form. Her hair is white and her eyes are palest lavender.
Ichigo spares one second to think that her bankai is the most beautiful he has ever seen. His reiatsu is so strong that it partially insulates him from the killing cold, and he leaps for Yhwach. Rukia’s bankai sends a blinding white pillar of ice and reiatsu flaring up around their enemy.
Ichigo’s blade pierces the pillar and injects black reiatsu into it. White light explodes, destroying everything it touches, and the world shakes. Ishida, the only one of their friends close enough to see what’s happening, looks up as the earth bucks under his feet and gets a glimpse of Ichigo and Rukia wrapped around each other before the light engulfs them. He is sent flying through the air by the blast.
Screams echo throughout what’s left of the Seireitei and the whole of the Rukongai as waves of reiatsu radiate outward and wash over Soul Society.
In the World of the Living, the earth shakes and scientists the whole world over report tremors and earthquakes. In Karakura, streets crack open and buildings fall. As far away as England, vases fall from mantels and shatter glass onto wooden floors.
Orihime’s Sōten Kisshun shatters over Urahara and Renji shifts into bankai and calls “Hihio!” quickly. The skeletal arm rises above them and deflects falling debris even as Renji throws himself over Orihime and Urahara both to protect them with his body.
When the shaking stops, Yhwach’s reiatsu is gone. Urahara stirs beneath Renji and says very quietly, “It’s over.”
His words have more than one meaning, as they all discover when the survivors of their battle with the Sternritter make their way through the destroyed streets of the Seireitei to the epicenter of the final battle with Yhwach.
The crater they find has swallowed up the entirety of the Sōkyoku Hill and the Senzaikyū and turned them both to dust. Shards of ice melt on the ground, and there still a chill in the air although it is no longer cold enough to freeze. In the center of the crater is all that remains of Yhwach: a quickly-disintegrating Quincy Cross. Aizen’s remains lie closer to the edge of the crater, as if he tried and failed to escape the blast.
Ichigo and Rukia are gone; only the hilts of their zanpakuto remain. A red ribbon binds them together.
Orihime, who has reached the crater with Renji, screams, and then keeps screaming. Renji just stares blankly, arms keeping her from flinging herself into the crater. Eventually she is sedated by a member of Squad Four.
Uryū, bloodied and battered from being thrown almost twenty yards by the blast, tells them all what he saw: Ichigo and Rukia sacrificing themselves (and Aizen) to destroy Yhwach.
It is Kyōraku who takes his hat from his head and holds it to his chest, then bows low toward the bound hilts. Byakuya follows, and then others do the same, heads bowing down in a sign of thanks and respect for the substitute Shinigami and the Squad Thirteen lieutenant whose deaths have ended the war.
The aftermath of the war is somewhat less respectful. There is a fight amongst the captains over what to do with the hilts of Zangetsu and Sode no Shirayuki: whether to bury them, burn them, or make a memorial of them. The memorial wins, and within a week there is a raised pillar on a grassy hill holding them in a glass case.
Renji holds on by a thread when the hastily erected memorial is unveiled seven days after the end of the war. Ichigo’s friends are there for the unveiling and he has no idea who brought them, but Byakuya stands behind Karin and Yuzu like a sentry of stone. He gets plastered later, in an izakaya that hasn’t been destroyed, and Rangiku carries him back to the Sixth and listens sympathetically. (She never tells anyone what he screams.)
Funerals are held for the dead. They burn the bodies, and though Renji doesn’t exactly expect a funeral for Aizen he does wonder why he has heard no word of the body being burned. The worlds, destabilized by the death of the Soul King, are righted by some unknown means that no one will speak of. All Renji knows, when he tries to ask, is that the faces of anyone involved grow pale and some even turn a little green. He doesn’t ask again, but in the very back of his mind he wonders if the two things are connected.
Byakuya places a picture of Ichigo on his butsudan next to one of Rukia, and lights incense for them both. No one dares to ask where the photo came from or why Ichigo has earned a place on the Kuchiki family altar. There is a rumor about a ghost marriage.
Chad, Uryū, and Orihime go back to the World of the Living with Urahara and Yoruichi when the latter two have recovered. All three look haunted, but the Gotei Thirteen are not in the habit of caring what happens to soldiers, even child soldiers, after the war.
Isshin Kurosaki and Ryuuken Ishida appear back in Karakura Town a month after the war. Isshin takes care of letting the school know about Ichigo’s death (from the earthquake, he says), which allows his friends to mourn publicly. Ichigo’s entire class wears black armbands with their uniforms for 49 days.
Everyone in school is surprised when Orihime enters school to be a nurse. They are even more surprised when Chad decides to become a counselor. No one is surprised when Ishida starts his own fashion business, although the stark black and white theme of his first collection is startling.
In Soul Society, the Gotei Thirteen rebuild. Tetsuzaemon is made Captain of Squad Seven. It is a struggle to find a captain for the Thirteenth, for everyone thought Rukia would succeed Ukitake after his death, not turn to ice and dust. Renji refuses the position.
The squad runs for years with neither captain nor lieutenant through the sheer stubbornness of Kiyone and Sentaro, until Hisagi apparently achieves bankai and agrees to take the captain’s exam. In passing, Renji wonders how the Thirteenth feels about having a captain who looks like two dead men. The answer is “not great”: Kiyone transfers to the Fourth to serve under her sister and Sentarō transfers to the Fifth a month later.
When the Sōkyoku is rebuilt, bigger and worse, in another part of the Seireitei, Renji gets smashed again and this time it’s Kira who drags him back home. Byakuya catches them but just calmly thanks Kira for returning his lieutenant. There is a hangover tisane waiting for him on his nightstand in the morning. Renji’s pretty sure his captain is the one who left it there, and vaguely recalls smelling sake on Byakuya’s breath. Maybe they are both disturbed by it.
Life in the Seireitei goes on as it does in the World of the Living, even with holes in both worlds shaped like a petite Shinigami and her orange-haired substitute. Sometimes when Renji looks at the Sōkyoku or sees one of the monitoring devices that Captain Kurotsuchi has planted around the Seireitei, he wonders what would have happened if they’d lived.
Sometimes – just sometimes – there is mercy in the cycle between the worlds. Time passes: a decade, then three, and then it has been seventy-five years since the war. In a park in Sapporo, near the Hokkaido Shrine that still stands tall amongst the skyscrapers, a young man and woman lounge in the sun. His hair is still orange, and her eyes are still violet, though she is a little taller. There are rings on the fourth finger of her left hand and a matching one on his. They sparkle and shine in the sunlight.
