“Man,” says Rena Rouge. “I thought patrol would be a lot more fun than this.”

Chat Noir grins.

“It’s only fun if you make it fun,” he says, reaching out to tug on her hair. She swats him, giggling. “Maybe I could purr-suade you to a race? No way you’ll cat-ch me, of course.”

“We’ll see about that.” Rena brings her flute to her lips. “You better run, chaton, before we test how good those reflexes of yours really are.”

Chat Noir vaults away, a blur in the night – and Rena, never one to back down from a challenge, follows.

Rena Rouge arrived at her very first afternoon patrol at 4pm sharp. Chat Noir was already waiting, his back facing her as he overlooked the city. He didn’t turn to greet her, but she could tell he heard her arrive by the tiniest twitch of his ears.

“So... she made you a permanent member of the team.” Chat Noir’s voice was flat; he gave no indication of her welcome.

“Is that a problem?” Rena had thought Chat liked her — they’d instantly been thick as thieves fighting Sapotis, bantering like they were old friends. He’d even kissed her hand the way he usually did with Ladybug. In all honesty, she’d originally felt more camaraderie with him than with Ladybug on that first day — ironic, given that Ladybug had been her actual best friend all along, but Marinette took her job as a hero very seriously.

So why was he being hostile now?

“Ladybug and I, we’ve always been a duo,” he said, finally turning to face her. His eyes glinted sharply, but the rest of his face gave nothing away. Bizarrely, Alya was reminded of Gabriel Agreste. “Why would we need a third person? We don’t. Three’s a crowd, after all.”

His voice was calm. Even. Steady.

Rena felt goosebumps forming under the material of her suit. Like bugs crawling up and down her arms.

But Alya had never been easily intimidated. And she wasn’t going to let a pun-enthusiast cat boy who ran around on all fours make her feel that way now, no matter how much she admired him usually.

Putting one hand on her hip, she stared him down. “Well, Ladybug chose me, so obviously she disagrees.”

Chat Noir actually flinched. For a second, she wondered if she’d gone too far — she’d meant to show him her mettle, not upset him.

And then he spoke, and she realized she had.

“Exactly,” his voice sounded like someone had unplugged his drain and emptied him completely out. Of what, Rena wasn’t sure. “She chose you.”

“Chat—“ Rena started, desperate to salvage this situation.

But then Ladybug arrived, and Rena watched with dawning horror as Chat’s eyes lit up and his lips curled into a grin.

Like one of her illusions, Rena watched the opportunity she’d barely grasped evaporate into a wisp of smoke, gone as if it was never there.

Hm, @noblesnook probably has more of them on his Curiouscat, but I see them os two sides of an OT4, both in civiliian and superhero forms. They understand each other, so swapping isn’t uncommon; ninette is definitely more sweet and careful, while Alyadrien is more raunchy and wild, with Alya and Adrien constantly on-upping each other. And Renachat is just lust-filled, Rena seeks the horniest animal out there to help her deal with her urges. And it slowly turns into Cara/Rena/Chat, since one is not enough for her.

Both originally bond over their love for LB and Rena giving Chat advice about how to be patient and accept that she currently doesn’t return his feelings

but then this camaraderie and fan-solidarity turns into actual feelings for EACH OTHER.

Listen, I am love square trash and I stan DJwifi with my whole body and soul but if you didn’t feel the Vibes™ between these two idk you must be..wrong. Yeah basically you’re wrong. LOL

Anyway I dig this shit. A lot. It’s just...really nice to think about because their interactions were so good and pure and lovely. DjWifi is canon but we barely see them interacting as a couple. And of course the l. square is a hot mess as always, so until then just....let people have this. <3

◼️ send me two superheroes, and I’ll describe a “love square” between them, or rather what sort of identity shenanigans they could face. This would be fun about characters who are canonically dating or close friends, but it’s also fun if you get creative.

Ooh, these two could be fun! Adrien acts differently between personas, of course, and Alya... well she doesn't act nearly as different as he does, but she's adept at tricks when needed.

Alyadrien: Alya would think of Adrien as an innocent sunshine child for the most part, but get glimpses of his sassier side on occasion that would intrigue her. Adrien respects Alya's commitment to exposing injustice, but worries about how easily she throws herself in danger - though she appears to be doing that a lot less lately, he notices, since she mostly hides instead of pursuing akumas.

Alyachat: We actually got to see this in Rocketear. Chat gets to go full suave, somewhat full-of-himself persona, and Alya responds to his banter, which is just really fun to watch. And leads to a lot of outsiders wondering whether they're flirting. In reality, they're just having a bit of fun. I also love the idea that she and Chat end up talking about manga and comic series they love, since Chat would be more open about loving that sort of thing as Chat, I think.

RenaChat: Not that different AlyaChat, honestly, except that when Rena's transformed, there's usually a job to do, so they've got less time to just hang out. They do get to chase each other around on rooftops when bored though!

Renadrien: This would be the most unique dynamic I think, since it's the least likely to result in banter. I think they'd be most likely to have heart-to-hearts in this dynamic, since Rena thinks of Adrien in more serious terms than she does for Chat Noir, and Adrien would have to make an effort to NOT banter with this superhero who he's not supposed to know well, personally. I think they'd confide in each other when given the chance. Especially Adrien confiding in Rena, since well, most of his problems stem from his civilian life, which he can't share as Chat, while Alya, by contrast, has a strong support system as a civilian, and would probably be better suited to tapping them for emotional support, unless her problem was specifically on her superhero side.

Rena hasn’t spent nearly as long avoiding identity stuff as Ladybug and Chat has so she’s not as practiced at it, but now she knows things and aint so good at hiding it

During a solo patrol with Chat, the two of them are discussing Ladybug’s oblivious prettyboy. Chat’s obviously still upset about it, but Adrien is her friend, so Rena is trying to keep things light and gentle—until she hecks up and accidentally refers to said prettyboy as Adrien.

Chat hears “Adrien” and his brain hasn’t even processed it before all of his joints lock in place at once.
