#religion should not be used to justify discrimination
Link
Tumblr media
Right-wing, white, “Christians” have a long history of using the Bible to assert their right to discriminate against others. Case in point, the Southern Baptists split off from the Baptists in 1845 over whether slaveowners could be missionaries. Southern Baptist leaders used the Bible to justify slavery, and later to justify segregation.
Louise Melling, Deputy Legal Director of the ACLU writes a compelling column questioning how today’s right-wing, white, “Christians” are attempting to use the First Amendment as license to discriminate against:
The LGBTQ+ community in numerous ways.
Women’s and other’s rights to contraception and abortion.
Pregnant, unmarried female employees.
People with opioid use disorder who use medication-assisted treatment.
Jewish, Catholic, and same-sex couples who want to adopt or foster children.
Dying people who want to consider “end of life options.”
Emboldened by the U.S. Supreme Court, today’s religious right is pressing in courts nationwide for what amounts to a sweeping right to discriminate. [...] For the past decade, the American Civil Liberties Union has tracked cases invoking a religious right to discriminate, and we’ve never been more alarmed. The sheer number of these cases has exploded. In 2012, the first ACLU report documenting them came in at seven single-spaced pages. The most recent report runs close to 30.
The scope of these claims has also mushroomed. [...] These efforts are simply incompatible with a pluralistic constitutional democracy that values both equality and religious freedom. Religious freedom, after all, doesn’t mean a right to hurt others.
[...] In a recent speech, Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr., quoting scripture, implored “champions of religious liberty” to “go out as wise as serpents and as harmless as doves” to challenge the “growing hostility to religion” in America. The justice, who penned the Hobby Lobby opinion, now has a solid majority hungry to give these “champions” whatever they want. [...] We have been here before. In the mid-1960s, a white supremacist who refused to serve Black people at his South Carolina barbecue restaurants argued that he was entitled to a religious exemption from the newly enacted Civil Rights Act. His lawyers told a trial court that the owner believed “as a matter of faith that racial intermixing or any contribution thereto contravenes the will of God,” and therefore enforcing the Civil Rights Act against him “constitute[d] State interference with the free practice of his religion.” The Supreme Court dismissed the argument as “patently frivolous.”
Champions of this “patently frivolous” claim are back before a remade Supreme Court. Half a century ago, the court snuffed out the flame on claims that religious freedom gave institutions the right to violate anti-discrimination laws. This time, it is lighting the match.

I think the idea of a "heaven is corrupt" sort of storyline could be a neat way to explore the faults of the church and how religion distorts the word of God and turns a faith that should be about love and taking care of one another under the light of the Lord into a means to demonize and other those who aren't "normal", but is kinda wasted in Hazbin Hotel from a lack of understanding of how it works and favours a less nuanced approach.
Throughout history, Christianity has been used to justify discrimination. Demonizing sex and saying sex workers and those who partake in casual sex will be damned. Addicts and the mentally ill are seen as demon-possessed (or demons themselves) and are sent to hell. Of how people justified themselves in colonizing other countries and massacring these people whom they arbitrarily deemed to be unwanted and unlovable in the eyes of God. Twisting His words into hate and viewing those who go against Him in some way, even if it's as small as enjoying sex outside of reproductive means, as sinners undeserving of redemption.
Redemption of sinners I view as being the main theme of Hazbin. Yes, there are murderers and terrible people down there, but does that mean they aren't possible of redemption and salvation? These sinners aren't much different than the saved in heaven. Still human and still capable of kindness and care. Charlie's optimism and hope for salvation and redemption in the sinners contrasts with heaven deeming that they cannot become better people and are better off dead.
Which is a shame since Hazbin seems to take a somewhat black-and-white approach to it all. Adam is so bluntly evil and it kinda takes the fun out of it. I get it because there's also not real subtly with how real Christians see nothing wrong with their hate and say the most outlandish things possible because it just Makes Sense to them, but Adam straight up saying that they kill sinners for fun is too straightforward this early on.
I personally would've preferred it to be more nuanced, or at the very least heaven just attempting to be kind and perfect. An aura of fake-niceness that makes it seem like it's some peaceful and idyllic place, but it only is meant for those who apply themselves to impossible demands and refuses to believe in redemption. Wouldn't it be nice if Charlie harked back to the idea that Christianity is about loving thy neighbour and that Jesus died for our sins? That, if God's love is endless and He forgives all, hell should be empty? Bring up the hypocrisy and how His words are used as a means to hurt and divide rather than bring together community and support.
But where's the fun in that? How am I supposed to know I should root for the red demons and not the angels if they don't make it extremely clear I should hate them? Nuance is stupid anyways.

Funny to see you not answer my question about homophobia in Gaza. Guess you don't have an answer to how we can support a group of people who would not hesitate to wipe out LGBT people in the name of religion.
There are too many answers to quickly formulate the careful reply I wanted to give and was working on, especially when I haven't felt like writing anything at all.
Frankly, the answers are self-evident and the question is ludicrous and fails to understand anything about this situation, Palestine, and people in general.
You would ask me, a Muslim lesbian, if Muslims deserve to live because of their attitude toward LGBT people?
You think there aren't queer people in Palestine? Who're under far more threat from Israel's bombs and bullets and blockades right now than from anyone else? You think they're aren't varying levels of acceptance and discrimination there, like anywhere? You think children, babies, should die before they've had a chance to even form opinions, let alone change them as adults? You think other places with queerphobia, like Florida or Texas or England, should be carpet bombed? Is it just homophobia we should use as a criterion or is racism also bad, in which case, wherever you live should also be targeted?
How about we just don't kill any group at large, whatever they think or feel or are? How about that? It is ridiculous to use your hypothetical fears of what might happen to justify what is happening right now, the actual wiping out of Gaza.

Hello! I was stalking your blog and saw your tags re: you cannot see an end to the occupation without causing large scale anti-semetism. So i wanted to send you this link. Additionally, i dont think opposing the israelis are in and of itself an act of anti-semetism as they're not being opposed bc of their religion but the fact that they, almost entirely as a nation save a meager handful, are disconcertingly hateful and murderous towards arabs and Palestinians. It is fact that they've created an ethnostate and use their religion as a shield to justify their wrongs.
I wrote this on the train to work so it's not as clean as it could be. Bear with me.
I think we're talking about two different issues. Your concern is the fault and the philosophy of the existence of Israel. My topic in those tags was the logistical follow-through and possible anticipated consequences.
Whether or not Israel should have tied their state to the Jewish religion is a different question. The fact of the matter is that they HAVE, and that many people see them as equivalent to each other.
For the purposes of this post, I am going to work on the premise that Israel must be dismantled. I have mixed feelings on the topic (see the below considerations), but for the rest of the post, let's assume it IS happening and we're just discussing how.
If the government at fault is violently and militarily opposed to being dismantled, then the dismantling has to come from outside, by foreign powers.
The nearest neighbors are differing levels of friendly, with some being of almost normalized relations, like Egypt or Saudi Arabia, but also include Yemen (admittedly not THAT close) and Lebanon, which have the Houthis and Hezbollah, and the former has "a curse upon the Jews" in their slogan.
"Allah is the Greatest, Death to America, Death to Israel, A Curse Upon the Jews, Victory to Islam"
So whatever your personal take on the philosophy of Israel's existence, propaganda, and choice to define itself by Judaism is, the fact that there are multiple countries in the region that are run by or at least sympathetic to groups of this opinion cannot be discounted when talking abut things like disarmament.
There is only one Jew in Yemen, a guy imprisoned for trying to smuggle out a Torah.
Syria and Lebanon, which are much closer to Israel physically, have less than 100 between them. It is vanishingly unlikely that the once-thriving communities chose to leave en masse. Many were probably enticed by the supposed safety and freedom of Israel, yes, but a near total exodus? Unlikely without domestic discrimination against Jews.
So that is what I am thinking of when I talk about nearby antisemitism.
Forcibly de-arming Israel leaves them open to the antisemitism of their neighbors UNLESS an outside power is there to manage the transition, and people who dislike Israel are generally vocally opposed to that kind of international interference.
Unfortunately, it currently looks like the only way to dismantle Israel's institution of violence is either an international oversight of the kind enforced on post-war Germany as it transitioned to a more peaceful nation, or to try to do it naturally and slowly like in South Africa.
But South Africa still has extreme economic inequality between the races. Speaking as an American, it's been 160 years since slavery ended and black people are STILL suffering here, so a slow and natural process where the Israeli government is "convinced" to stop being discriminatory seems unlikely. There are anti-apartheid activists in Israel! There are plenty of pro-Palestine Jewish organizations in other countries! But they are not enough to take apart Israel in a peaceful and stable manner with a speed that would help Palestinians recovery in any reasonable timeframe.
Which brings us back to either violent overthrow or foreign interference by UN forces, meaning yet more western military posts in the middle east, because a disarmed Israel is one that is open to the vocally antisemitic and anti-Israel groups just across their North/East borders.
I guess MAYBE Saudi Arabia could be the oversight force, but I don't think an absolute monarchy is the best choice for overseeing the complete restructuring of a democratic state.
As for the link you sent... 75% of Israelis were born in Israel. Half of the population is either Mizrahi Jews escaping persecution from nearby states (again: Yemen, Syria, and Lebanon could not have gotten their Jewish populations that low without systemic discrimination) that were happy to see them go, or their descendants. The rest are mostly jews who escaped antisemitism in Europe or their descendants. (Also, Ethiopian jews, but given that Israel discriminates against THEM, they're a bit too complicated to discuss in this already complicated post.)
And of course there's the Jews who were already living there... and the question of those who were kicked out centuries or even millenia ago by Romans or the Islamic caliphates or the Ottoman empire or what have you.
(I'll note here that I have a large bias against Ottoman Empire things and am trying to be conscious of that.)
None of this JUSTIFIES their actions. But the whole Settlers thing, at least for the main body of Israel, is really complicated by the fact that Israel's history, and the fact that the Jewish people HAVE been there in some capacity for thousands of years, is complicated. He mentions the decolonization of Algeria and French people leaving but... French people had France. They could go back to France.
Israel is the homeland. The whole reason Jewish people wanted it was because their thousands of years of history were there. Their holiest site (temple mount) was there. They'd just been driven from it over and over again.
It does not, by any means, justify their actions against Palestine. It DOES, however, mean that the whole "jews should have stayed where they were instead of coming here" argument is... flawed. They should NOT have taken that land, no, should NOT have kicked out Palestinians, but at that point we also get into whatever the hell Britain was doing.
West Bank settlers are a different issue. That should not be happening. That is in fact colonization. Go back to your own side of the border. Etc.
My thoughts on the situating keep changing as I learn, but I'm really hesitant to get on board with any particularly black-and-white generalizations.

preemptive warning for discussion of violence, abuse, and sexual assault in the links ahead
one of the many frustrating parts of schizospec paranoia is that, when it comes to more realistic fears, it gets hard to tell whats The Mental Illness and whats actually justified, at least to a degree. people with schizospec disorders are more likely to be the victims of violence, with some estimates claiming those with schizophrenia are 14x more likely to be victims of violent crimes than they are to commit violent crimes and twice as likely as the general public to be victims of violent crimes, and people with "severe mental illnesses" overall have been repeatedly reported to be at a much higher risk of being the victim of violence.
when you account for other factors which can put an individual at further risk of violence and abuse - physical and intellectual disabilities, race, gender, sexuality, or religion for example - you can easily see that theres plenty of fuel for persecutory fears.
when you account for the fact that schizospec disorders, especially their paranoid symptoms, can be exacerbated and even partially caused by trauma such as being the victim of abuse, and the revictimization rate for victims of such mistreatment, even more fuel is clearly being added. schizospec symptoms can easily mesh with symptoms of ptsd, resulting in paranoid fears that are, to some degree, based in factual events in a persons life.
so, with the way schizospec disorders muddle up our thought processes, it becomes especially difficult to know whether our fears are based in any form of fact or not. i experience fears that people are obsessively attracted to me, because ive been mistreated by past partners and by those who i wasnt involved with like that but who still took their own feelings for me too far. its difficult for me to discern whether people are actually attracted to me, and wanting to harm me because of it, or if its all just my synapses misfiring. i simultaneously have a constant feeling that the people around me are scared of me or see me as less than a person, and are therefore planning on causing me immediate harm or working behind the scenes to ruin my life, but these fears draw on actual experiences of being told im scary or pitiful or lesser, having people actually make efforts to hurt me in one way or another, so on and so forth. i am not the only one experiencing this, im confident.
and then you factor in the fact that those of us with schizospec disorders are most often socially isolated to some degree - the dsm even lists social isolation and difficulty maintaining close relationships to be a symptom of schizotypal personality disorder, for one thing i remember off the top of my head. were seen as strange, unnerving, unnatural, our behaviors are abnormal, we dont connect with others the way we "should", we communicate in confusing ways. every day i feel as if i have an aura emanating off of me that other "normal" people can sense, that tells them im a threat. and so it becomes increasingly difficult for us to find support, for our symptoms, or for the aftermath of discrimination and violence. we often arent truly "people" in the eyes of non schizospecs, rather were psychos, crazies, potential killers. we become collateral damage, acceptable targets. and it becomes easy to brush off our concerns for our own safety, because its more convenient to chalk things up to us just being delusionally paranoid rather than putting in the effort to actually examine the situation and the facts of how dangerous life is for mentally ill people.
i know that my thinking is disorganized here, and im doing the "flowery language" thing because its a serious topic and its hard to put into more succinct terms than dancing around what im saying. so i hope that what im trying to say is actually coming across clearly. my point is that im tired of second guessing myself and never knowing whether my fears of persecution are based in fact or not, and im tired of the social isolation that comes with this shit. im tired of feeling like if anything happens to me its going to be brushed off as just symptoms and not a real problem that matters to anyone except me
EDIT 8/19/2023: because i got reminded of this old post, i want to add that since posting this ive realized i also have npd. usually i keep my npd talk to a side blog because im not super comfortable talking about my symptoms on main, but i do want to add the clarification that the paranoia i talk about in this post is ALSO very very heavily tied to my npd in addition to my being schizospec. and in a way that makes me feel even more vulnerable, because people with npd tend to be villainized and treated as if our problems are just exaggerations to get attention. so when you combine the stigma against both conditions... its fucking rough out here, idk what else to say.

okay i think you guys need a refresher
say it with me now:
if the way you follow your religion* forces** you to be a bigot, then you need to rethink*** the way you follow that religion.
*not your religion, the way you follow it. important distinction.
**this is hyperbole. no one is forcing anyone to do anything.
***not to say you should stop practicing said religion!! do not feel pressured to do that!! this is very explicitly not saying that!!
a bunch of people created a discord server that bred hatred and bigotry, released it to the public, openly called queer people “predators”, and victimized themselves when queers were angry. that is not a “safe space for christians”. that is an unsafe place for queers.
you are allowed to be christian, but not being okay with queer people, queer headcanons, or queer characters is not justifiable. i do not care if that is what your religion says. we are not forcing anything on you, we are living.
the thought “shouldn’t we be able have a space away from queers/why are we being forced to see queer content” is rooted in bigotry. you do not get to shun us. i need you to understand, very clearly, that this is discrimination.

"I oppose war criminals, therefore, I'll attack a religious center that is of the same overall religious family as these war criminals, hurting random civilians who have absolutely nothing to do with these war crimes, because attacking people for their ethnicity or religion is absolutely the best way to fight genocide."
Don't make it make sense, because it will never make sense; certainly not any good, justified sense. Attacking a synagogue in California because the Israeli government and the IDF forces beneath them are avowedly Jewish is not going to do a damn thing to stop the genocide of Palestinians, but in the first place, attacking a synagogue is just inherently fucking wrong. "The IDF bomb mosques, so I'm going to attack a synagogue-" you're not a freedom fighter, you're a fucking Nazi. How about, if you want to resist the Israeli government, you resist the Israeli government, and if you're in the US, you do BDS, you stir shit for the US government aiding and abetting all this, but you just leave random Jews alone, yeah? Don't attack any synagogues, don't attack someone wearing a kippah, and for goodness' sake, don't demand someone immediately tell you their position once they say they're Jewish. If you get that demanding any Arab, Muslim, or Palestinian condemn Hamas is harassment and discrimination, you can get that demanding the inverse of Jews is likewise harassment and discrimination. It's not both sides-ing, alright, Israel is a settler-colonial state that only still exists because it's a convenient foothold of a puppet for the US, UK, and the West in general to fuck around with Southwest Asia and North(east) Africa. Doesn't mean all Jews are at fault for it. Honest to fucking goodness, this should not be fucking hard to get.

“f the mormons” but like why?
haha, randomly posting my thoughts bc i’m pissed but don’t have a platform. why is prejudice against every religion except mine something that is completely unacceptable? but then when it comes to mormon’s, suddenly it’s “well all their members are racist” or “their church has history of racism and discrimination” or “byu has does this or that,” like why do y’all have to explain yourself? the minute you have to explain yourself, you lose. you could explain away discriminating against anyone or any protected group for however long you want, it is still discrimination and is still wrong. and i HATE how the right wing members are the absolute loudest when it comes to responding to hate and they always respond in the worst way possible. bc as someone who is left leaning (and by leaning, i mean swerving) we don’t speak up, we see the explanations people make and we can’t explain them away, and won’t. there is history of racism, and there are still big problems with acceptance within the church currently, i will never try to justify that or downplay it, but assuming that everyone agrees with these problems is just plain wrong.
mormonism is a religion of personal revelation, that is developing your relationship with God yourself, rather than just believing everything a pastor tells you. and it maddens me to know a good amount of history about the church and how it was too feminist and socialist for america, so the governments decided to rage war against us? bc polygamy and communitarianism were, and apparently presently are far too controversial. so you know, to not get killed, the leaders of the church basically put on some camo gear and tried to fit in as much as possible with the very christians who had massacred their friends, families, and hopes, and have stayed that way up until the present, leading to lots of members being disillusioned that the teachings of the church are just the ideals of the republican party, which (believe me, i lived in germany for a year on my mission, and witnessed a bishop laugh at the police and at byu for the whole “light the y” color the campus situation) is completely wrong. and probably the reason why we lost the third hour of church, we need less time facilitating with one another what we reason to be doc of the church, and more time asking God themself what we should believe and do.
either way, no one sees the actual tree of the religion and only look at the rotten branches that slowly choke out the good ones. yes, the tree needs to be pruned but i have no clue how that would be possible. and so the public eye only sees the rotten fruits located at the very end of the long long branches and ignore the good fruits growing closer to the tree and no one ever thinks to look at the roots. so they point and scrutinize the overgrown branches and bitter fruit, not understanding there is more underneath that they are also criticizing. i am honestly always nervous to tell people about my religion bc i know with what groups they will group me into, all groups i don’t belong to (republicans or trumpians, basic utahns, loud and proud americans, etc. etc.) bc as prez nelson taught us, i put my title of disciple of christ, child of god, and child of the covenant before anything else. why is it that i myself feel ashamed to talk about my religion? bc it always comes with some sort of shift in attitude from the person learning this info. it’s always.. “oh, you’re a mormon..?” followed by jokes about polygamy and magic underwear. it’s always bad to joke about religion when it comes to every religion besides mormonism and even when you point out the hypocrisy, so called leftists still laugh in your face and continue making fun of a protected group.
and so i am left to ask myself every day, why? why can’t i tell them that polygamy, though sometimes disgusting and icky at the time it was in practice in the actual church and since then exploited by excommunicated perverts (i’m not referring to that practicing of polygamy bc like yikes), was a system in which women could easily form romantic friendships with one another and you know kiss and stuff, that sealings between men were allowed until the late 1800s in order to connect them and their families forever in eternity, that women could heal the sick for a time, that the church has so much money because of our communal money system, and the history of racism coincided directly with average christian beliefs about race at the time (remember how we just really really wanted to fit in?)  and how one of our prophets legit told a gay couple that he didn’t know enough about it to make a judgement and encouraged them to live a happy life together (plus it was the prophet easily regarded as one of the kindest and most christlike modern prophets by most other modern prophets) and that one of our core beliefs is that men and women are inherently equal and another being the existence of feminine deity and her possible co-authoring of everything we consider God the father to have authored, and like so much more, but i’m getting tired and can’t think anymore. but yeah, most people still consider those things like God the mother and polyamory and spiritual communism are still unfortunately pretty radical concepts.
so yeah, “f the mormons,” but just remember that it’s not just blind sheep you’re hating on, but your colleagues and friends you never knew were mormon simply bc they were afraid to tell you.
and you’re evidence as to why... and that’s called oppression

Will all good intentions, you and other blogs like yours should stop wasting your time writing whole ass essays to racist strangers online as if they care. I can assure you people of color and ethnic minorities have countless of stories to tell when it comes to entitled racist people who always try to justify their shitty behaviour by blaming minorities for not wasting their lives "teaching" them like elementary schoolers, why racial nasty jokes are not "ok" and coddling their ego.
These people don't lack any knowledge of Greek myth, in fact, it literally requires zero knowledge of Greek mythology to know basic stuff like how stupid fantasy books with Greek elements will never make you learn anything about Greece or that being vile to a non-abrahamic religion is one of the worst types of blatant religious racism. They are terrible towards ancient Greek elements because no one sees Greece as a real country nor Greek people as real people with actual emotions who can actually see them and hear what they say, so they know can get away with racist reactionary content that gives them tons of notes and clout.
Thank you for the support, really. At the same time, the condescending tone about minorities and poc feels out of place when speaking to a Greek. "I can assure you, people of color and ethnic minorities-" Yes, we know. We are in these categories.
Greeks have been historically considered non-white, "barbaric" and "ethnic" in many countries (still are, in a lot of places). In the US we started being seen as white after the 1950s and it's been a slow progress since WASP USians saw us as the same "race" as them. Before that, Greeks faced segregation and extreme violence by White communities and police. (Lots of WASPs still see us as "primitive" when they actually learn how our customs and Christianity look, btw). But we also exist in other places and the othering about how we look hasn't stopped.
Greeks have been considered "poc", "ethnic" and "wog" for a looong time in the west. We know bigotry not only because of how we look but also because of our ethnicity (hence the progroms and genocide and cultural erasure, you can Google all about anti-Greek sentiments and Greek caricature figures on posters). And of course, we have ethnic minorities everywhere and have faced forced cultural erasure like state punishment when speaking Greek (Turkey), changing the names of Greek towns in other countries to erase the Greek history there (Russia), and more. Recent research shows Greek names in the US are discriminated against as much as Chinese names.
Let me remind you that although Middle Easterners and N. Africans are categorized as White in the US legislation, it doesn't mean that they are exempt from racism and bigotry. The case of Greeks is similar. In northern and Anglo countries our appearance is commented on and looked at with suspicion, our customs and our food receive negative comments, there is hiring discrimination, etc. There is a reason we say "the only Greeks foreigners like are the dead ones". When you don't show them syrtaki and feta, they can turn to bigotry really fast.
So, we've been in the dance for a looong time. Try the "barbaric" from Charlemagne's time. Try NW Europeans basing their national identities around a superficial image of idealized ancient Greek culture, the NW Europeans stealing our antiquities because we weren't "worthy heirs" of our own culture in their eyes, the "disappointed" Nazis with how "non-white" we looked, etc etc.
What makes you think Greeks had aaaany say in this? What makes you think we don't know how it is to be ignored while other nations make bank and base their whole new-age spirituality and our stomped-on heritage?
It's clear you are on our side here and I don't mean to interpret your message in bad faith. Most of your statements ring true, anyways. But I feel that, while you correctly identified people who don't take Greeks' accounts seriously, you kiiiinda did the same? I mean I wouldn't need to write another essay if you had dignified us with the thought we know how it is to be in marginalized spaces, that we know how it's to not be heard, or that we know the reasons people online don't respect us. Example: I and most Greeks have verified with our own experience that the following statement is actually false.
"These people don't lack any knowledge of Greek myth, in fact, it literally requires zero knowledge of Greek mythology to know basic stuff like how stupid fantasy books with Greek elements will never make you learn anything about Greece or that being vile to a non-abrahamic religion is one of the worst types of blatant religious racism."
We've been in this discourse for at least a decade and you'll be surprised by the great number of adults who are absolutely confident that PJO taught them everything and that gods hold no value for worshippers or Greeks whatsoever. I invite you to have that discourse on our behalf and see for yourself.
Bottom line: Please let us handle the situation however we see fit. We take nothing from other people and nations when we express annoyance about how our culture has been treated.

Ways to defend yourself, of people than discriminates you for being a Pagan; Wiccan, or Witch
We are seeing in The News and through Social Media, how sadly wars and conflicts of all kinds; are more and spreading through differents parts of The World (Congo DR, Haiti; Gaza, The sad fate of The Rohingya... [And, less not forget than Ukraine, Syria; The Sahel, and in other places of The World; have years, and even more than a decade; without living in peace]) For this reason, I'll tell how you can avoid being the target of hatred of the ones than discriminate us; specially, from fundamentalists of monotheistic religions; than wants to provoque us, so they can justify using violence; against us. This list, made briefly; explain in short all the methods, from the easiest... Til' the more drastic: I adviced you to starts from the number 1, and; according to the situation, continue until the last number of the list. (I hope to The Gods and Goddesses... Than you will never need to uses, to the last three of them!)
And, now... The List of Ways to Defend Yourself and to others Pagans/Wiccans/Witches, from any person than discriminates against us:
1. Avoid encounters with these kind of people, as much as possible: I know that sounds, as; ''The move than will do a coward!…'', BUT… Only the ones than had experiences of being harrased in the street, like me; knews well about how DANGEROUS, THESE PEOPLE REALLY ARE! They ignored than Freedom of Cult and Religion, is protected by law by the vast mayority of nations and countries of The World; (But, if you like me; lives in a nation; where the vast mayority of people is Monotheist, and where this law; is a sad joke…) and they tries to convert you, and accused you unfairly of being a Satanist… So they can continue to harrasing and verbally abusing you, and never ends in jail; where they should be.
My way to protect myself, is this: If you see a group of preachers, (Or; a few or only two; or even one) walking at two or three sidewalks of you… Go walking quickly to the opposite direction, and avoid visual contact so they never know; that you are walking away from them/him/her. (That will avoid you many bad moments, innecesary stress; and, about all… Even a possible physical attack!)
2. If they ever reach you, be polite; stay calm; but... Being firm in your beliefs!: Sometimes, (As it happened to me) the encounter(s) couldn't being totally avoided; and you end with this kind of people, near; or, in front of you. The only thing you can do in that moment, is… Keep calm, and never raise your voice; when you says than ''You are no interested in the moment'', or ''I will go when I feel ready to go''
These are tiny phrases you can uses, so they eventually; leaves you alone:
''I'm really busy, and I don't have the time to go...''
''I need to go to a errand, so... Nice to meet you, and goodbye.''
''My parents don't leave me go to a place, unless they give me permission''
''I'll love to, but... My husband doesn't like than I invite strangers to our house.''
''If it is where I believe it is, I can't go: The Church (Or any place they use for reunion), is too far of my home: Sorry!''
3. If they still continue, and are blocking your way; after you are trying to leave...
Trying to search a little empty space between them, and leaves quickly through it; as soon than you find it: Lower yourself to leaves through it, slip til' you are as far as possible of them (walk quickly, and... Run when you reach the sidewalk, etc.); always trying to leave, with the less amount of violence possible; so they can't use it later, against you. And...
If they starts to grabs you, and calling you names (This is where the situation, start to get really dangerous; 'cause they are forcing you to stay against your will, and you don't have a way to escape; or fear don't left you think if you can escape...); then... SCREAM, AS LOUDER AS YOU CAN! They may scare and let you go, 'cause they wasn't expecting than you do that, and RUN. (If people came at your aid, before you run... Just tell them than you was trying to leave, they doesn't leave you, and you was fearing for your safety: There's a big chance, than they never back to bother you, 'cause they wants to keep a good image; in front of the public opinion, and... Lest said than ''Attacking, or trying to kidnapps people...'' Will destroy any of that ''Pristine Image'', than they uses for their own benefits.)
4. If screaming didn't work, and nobody seems to came... Tell them than your family/friends/acquatainces, are searching for you; than THEY KNOW than you are near of this place, and they must leave you go, 'cause they may call to the police; if you don't appear in a few minutes. (Many of these people fear to the police, 'cause some of them had been in jail; and many fear to the police, itself!) Is extreme, I know… But maybe is the only way to get out, of this unpleasant situation. (And… Using Self-Defense, if you know any… Is a great help in this situation, too!)
5. If you are in a place where everybody knows you, and somehow they find out; than you are a Pagan, Wiccan or Witch; and they aren't happy with that, them… Again, being calm; and reminds them of these things:
My beliefs and/or religion, is a personal thing.
The same right you have to believe what they want, is the same right I have to believe; in what my heart wants to believe.
Being of a religion/belief, than is not Mainstream, doesn't turns me into an ''Attention Seeker'', ''Be in a Phase''; or ''A bad person'': I'm in this religion/belief, 'cause I tried in Mainstream Religion; and this where I feel in peace, and in Home.
6. If they continue to attacking you… Ask them politely, what is there real concerns about you; following your choosen path. (You may need to dispel their fears, telling only the truth about your faith; by only telling the basics, about the same.)
7. If your Family/Friends/Classmates/Coworkers/Etc, are against you… Sadly… I experienced that myself (And I STILL being mocked, mistreated and even comdend by people related to me, for blood and/or the law); and these are a few things you can do, to protect yourself, being you a minor; or an adult by the law:
If you are a Minor: Stop to practices (in case you were), until you are at least; 18 years old, or you are an emancipated minor: If you are able to have a job, keep yourself safe; pay your bills, and knows how to care for yourself... Then you can profess your beliefs, with the protection of the law! Now... If you are still a minor, and you are far still of being emancipated or a Legal Adult; then don't despair... There is something you can do: Speak little to your Family/Friends/Acquaitances about your beliefs, ignores their mockering/bullying/comments/coldness; and... Talks to someone than respects you (and your beliefs), so you doesn't feel alone; and you can keep strong, until you are old enough to follow what you truly believes... And, loves!)
If you are an Adult: Avoid as much as posible, to going to Parties/Family Reunions/Birthdays/etc, or any events where your Family/Friends/Etc; can use these moments to humilliated you, and/or verbally abuse you; in front of everybody. Other thing, is to ignore their hurtful comments (As I had to do, in more than one ocassion); if the Reunion/Party/Birthday/Family Dinner, couldn't being avoid. And, my last advice in this matter is; if you are in a job that pays you enough, then saves enough money... And move as far as you can, of these people: Is something we all must do, when our job pay us enough; so we can save money and we can move to the safest place possible; so we can live and follow our beliefs, in peace.
(Note: Only say to your Family and/or Friends, where are you going to live; if you trust than they will treats you with respect: If you feel than, they will continue with their despicable behavior... Only says your real address to the friends and family's members, than always were supportive of you; and than never will say where you are, to the other friends and/or family's members; than doesn't treats you better...)
8. If the attacks passed from verbal, to physical violence: and/or persecution… Use Justice, to end it!: According to Wikipedia… A man was arrested in 2019, for trying to stab a woman, than he believed than was a witch. Which… Takes me to the point of this part of ways to defend yourself: Justice, is obligated to protects and grants you justice; if you are recieving threats of harm, or even if someone; tried to hurts you! But, if you lives in a country where sadly; Antidiscrimination's Laws doesn't exists… Send your complain to the only place you will be heared and protected: The Human Rights Watch Office, than is present in 100 countries. (Research if there is a Human Rights Watch Office in your nation, wrote the number and the address and tries to memorize it; in case you may need to call, or even; to go there!)
9. Learn Martial Arts, and/or learn to use a weapon to defend yourself; just in case than you could be attack in the street, or... In your own home!: I have readed about Pagans being attack at their homes, than escaped of being killed; by pure luck… And Pagans than avoided being killed, thanks than they manages weapons to scares to evil people. (I strongly dislike firearms, but I'm pretty agile with white weapons and I have to uses my fists and legs; when my life was in danger in childhood, so… Never understimate to uses violence, as your last defense: If could save your life, someday!)
10. And, at last… If all the above wasn't enough; and your Mental Health, Dignity; Peace, or your Life is in danger; this is the last advice: Leaves your Country, ASAP!: Is the last measure, and… Probably, the saddest of all: Leaving what you know, to be safe and sound somewhere else; and be happy around of people than at least respect your rights. For doing that, my advice; is this:
Buy a kit of small bottles for Travel (To fill them each of them with Shampoo, Hair Condictioner; Shower Gel and Styling Mousse or Gel), a tiny First Aid kit; three changes of clothes, four pairs of underwear, a sweater, three pairs of different footwears (You have to put them in a two gallons ziploc bag, to avoid than the rest of your clothes; gets dirty); three pairs of socks, Feminine hygiene products (If you are a female, of course), a blanket big enough to cover your body when you are snuggled up, a tiny makeup kit with a tiny makeup remover; your passport, a little ziploc bag with your medicines (If you where prescribed ones), two set of pijamas, a pair of slippers; a toothbrush with a regular size toothpaste, a small hairbrush, a small comb; and... Any not perishable thing than you really needs, and you knows than it will be immposible to get; when you leave your nation.
Check as soon as possible, if you don't need a Visa to go to your choosen destination. (If that's the case... Research to what kind of Visa you can apply, and start to get the requirements; to avoid being rejected when you go to that Country's Consulate.) Also... See what jobs you can do legally, in your future destination!
Start to learn about the Culture, How to behave; and learn the Language (Or.. At least the basic phrases; the names of places/animals/plants/foods and common questions with their answers), of the country where you are going to live: A misdundertanding with Locals, for not knowing or understand what they say to you; or for not behaving as they expects you to act, or for not knowing the laws of that nation... Could land you in troubles. (And, even... Cause you to being deported where you can't back to live!)
Three or two weeks before to leave... Buy your Airplane Tickets (Or... Of any transport than is of long distances, or to get out of your country), and physical money (a few bucks, just in case); to put in your pocket, and any amount of money than is bigger than that... Put it in your travel bag, at the reach of your hand: In my country, the top amount of physical money to enter or leave the country; is $10,000 dollars, and anyone that carries more than that, would be stopped and can't take the plane: Find out what is the top amount of bucks you can take with you, to avoid to miss your trip! (Of course, that money must be in the currency of your destination, and if is possible... Get a International Credit Card, to avoid to take all that money with you!)
When you have a week or two left to leave, check than you have your medicines and First Aid's Kit are at date (At least than the expiration date will be in six months to a year, 'cause you don't know if you may find a drugstore to buy them; soon, and you will have to tend minor wounds; while you learn where are the hospitals/doctors, in your new home)
From the last week, til the day you leaves... Be sure to checks than everything is in order, pack your things in your suitcase (Than must be of medium size, so all you belongings could being put in it, and can be easy to manage for you; at the same time); checks when is your flight (or any other way you have to leave the country), have a light dinner in your last night in your country, wake up at least two hours before to go to the Train Station (Port, Airport or Travel's Bus), bath and dress quickly; put a jacket, eat a simple breakfast than fills you enough, grab a bottle of water, your suitcase and Travel's Bag (where it is your medicines, credit cards and/or foreign currency; your smartphone, your smartphone's charger, your little First Aid's kit, and... Three or four little snacks to eat when you arrived, in case you need to wait to recieve your room in the hotel/hostel) and... Keep calm: You are leaving legally, while you said to everybody than you are taking a vacation (but we know than you are staying, till things changes for the better... Or, for good); and life's is going to be better, after all you have suffered... You will be fine!
This last point of leaving, I put it 'cause is growing violence against minorities around The World; specially in countries with big economic crises, where governments and religious leaders; places the blame in minorities, for profit and social gain; but too, for another reason...
...I'm thinking in leaving, to my own nation.
I have thoughted about it for years, and the situation of the LGBTQIA+'s Community in my nation, Women's Rights and Religious Minorities; are not getting better. (I can even said, than in some points... Is getting worse!) According with a source, The Head of State in the Caribbean Nation where I live; promised to help to a minority group to get a better place of cult, but; in the meantime... Only Christians are allowed to their marriages being recognized by law, and... I can't even get out of my house with a Pagan Symbol over my chest, without a dirty look of strangers; or with my own family questioning, than ''If Pagans are so good... Why they are hiding, then?!'' (Erhm... I don't know?... It could be than Christians have all the Communication's Routes, and use it for spreading lies than makes young fearful of say they are Pagans/Wiccans/Witches; for fear of losing friends, or to avoid Public Harrasment; and Social Shaming?!) I have family members, than had fell in total fanatism; so when something bad happen, or worse, when they think something bad will happen... They blame it on me, and the fact than the closest to me are mocking me specially for my beliefs; or even my parents talking than Christians are not so bad (I was in two Christian's Private Schools, and most people I knew than were Christians... Treated to others and me, in a very awful and questionable ways... Sorry for my total disagreement with you!) So... It wouldn't be easy, but... Staying where my rights are trample everyday, makes more easier to me to not continue to desires to live; in... ''The Paradise'', which... Has nothing to do with those local commercials and slogans to attracts tourist and investments, says: If it was so wonderful... Why women, youngs in their 20's or youngers; and the most smarters people of my nation (Most of then, of The LGBTQIA+'s Community; and Straights People borne in poverty), are leaving everyday despite ''Jobs are raising, and their is more Job's Opportunities; and everybody have equal rights of being hired and to progress?!''... Simple: All that wonderful things?... Is only for The Christians, The Rich and/or The Big Company's Owners (mostly for White straight Men, between 25-64 years old); and... For the ones than serves them without dignity, for a big handful of bucks!
For that, and more... I have to work even more and save enough, to leave: My life will only improve, if I leave a nation than I used to love; but than I realize is not worthy to continue to stay there, if I can find a better place to be; where I can follow to my dear Deities in peace, and I could help more to anyone than needs any kind of help; and where I can finally said: ''I finally feel, like in Home!''
That's all in this post: Than all of you always being protected by all the Gods and Goddesses, be it; than you can find a home and good people than loves you and respects you, where you are living right now; or... Where you are planning to live, in the future... So Be It!

Are you for real? No, seriously are you?
Do you know that Hinduism is a religion, not a race? Do you know that every religion has had a bloody and bigoted history? Do you know that religions can be, and have been, used as a way to discriminate far more than they were used to bring people together? Do you know anything about the Hindu religion? Did you know that in Manusmriti, which is basically a guidebook for 'moral code of conduct' for the Hindus, it says that women are men's property and men can choose to use them however they want? That women should be seen and not heard? Did you know that it categorically discriminates people on the basis of caste and gender? Do you know that in its conception itself, it is a discriminatory religion? I know those who practice it themselves will chafe at it and not agree. But it's true nevertheless.
The only reason I am even responding to this is because I have gotten queries about it and I don't want to see those because, like I have already said, I value my privacy.
I am here to talk about storytelling and characters and that's what I wanna stick to. If you like it, go ahead. If not, then it's beyond the ambit of my consideration.
People here feel way too comfortable to judge others' personal and political feelings heh, without having any damn idea about that person's history or background. Well, you could have given me the benefit of doubt, given up until now, you didn't have a problem with my views. But you chose to simply say this bs? You know the world is bigger than you imagine. There are a lot of things you don't know. Why didn't you at least Google it first? What I am talking about is an extremely well documented subject.
Yes, I have very, very justified reasons to feel the way I feel. And oh by the way, that person who is harassing me, who has made several different accounts to bother me, only because they didn't like that I blocked them, you really think that person gives a shit about my views on religion? That person obsessively went over a year back on my blog just to find something to frame me, so they could use it as a reason to get me in trouble with Tumblr. They have been reported and already been partially banned by Tumblr, yes Tumblr can do that. The person's whose screenshots you saw abused me calling vile names in the name of this religion. That person has been reported by several people, and not just SNS. If you knew the meaning of those swear words that they used for me, your ears would turn pink. Do you have any sense of proportion? Do you think everyone in the world will think like you and everyone has had the same circumstances as you? What is this fucking homogeneity? I don't care about your shallow and obviously ignorant understanding of the world.
You think this person's feelings got hurt because of what I said? You think a person who acts like that person has any consideration for being politically correct? How naive you are. Heh. The person who told me that, I underestimated their pettiness and that they would take a break but they would be back for me?
For real? They are clearly doing whatever they are doing out of SPITE. If nothing else, you should have been able to clock that. There's a reason I judge SS and NH people the way I do. Because they aren't capable of rational thought. You think anything that comes out of their mouths would be rational? I haven't seen one time when they did that. One can't be intelligent or logical or rational and say and believe things that they say and believe.
No one is ever Right? Is that so? How easily you generalise lol. Except I am right in my beliefs. I don't believe in or condone discrimination based on gender, religion, caste, sexual orientation or class.
I grew up navigating certain social realities that not many people of my generation have had to experience in their lifetimes. Do I have Hindu friends? Yes, I do. Many. Do they celebrate their religion? No. Do they agree with me? Also, yes. But is it a simple matter of leaving all ties behind to agree with me? No. These things are complex, very much rooted in their own identity, and I understand it.
I appreciate honesty, common sense and generosity of spirit in people. I don't care for ignorance. I try in my own ways to address it. The major reason why I made this blog is one of them.
I have had enough of this. I will NOT entertain any further enquires on my views regarding this subject. That's not why I am here. And anyone who feels like they are not satisfied is welcome to unfollow me. Right now. You have no idea about the depth and strength of my convictions. Heh.
Anyone who continues to enquire about my reasons to feel what I feel about this religion will be immediately blocked with haste.

To wear a head covering: beating the negative stereotypes
Discrimination hits most Muslim women all around the world. The way they express their faith, especially when it comes to wearing head coverings is often stereotyped as something negative by others. However, the discussion about their rights is expanding, with proponents arguing that it is essential that Muslim women should be able to express their religious beliefs, including choosing whether to wear head coverings or not, free from discrimination and prejudice.
Some may say that there is a duality of interpretations when it comes to understanding Women’s rights in Islam. On one hand, the Islamic text is often appropriated by Muslims to justify discrimination against women and to impose social and legal restrictions on their rights and freedoms. On the other hand, Western Islamophobic neo-orientalists use these popular yet traditional misogynistic readings of Islam to support their claims against Islam. This leaves Muslim women in a dilemma: women who intend to be good Muslims but at the same time, have their rights under these popular interpretations.
The discriminatory treatment suffered by Muslim women due to the way they dress is strongly presented in a case that happened in Georgia. Furthermore, it's the case of Lisa Valentine in 2008, a Muslim woman who could not enter a municipal courtroom unless she removed her religious headgear and was jailed for contempt of court when she protested. Her nephew had his traffic hearing and she attempted to accompany him at the Douglasville Municipal Court. Little did she know that when she would get there, she would be told it was against court policy to wear headgear in court. Lisa protested and tried to leave, however, officers arrested her, forced her to remove her head covering and jailed her for several hours. Azadeh Shahshahani, an attorney with the ACLU of Georgia said: “This not only showed extreme indifference to her fundamental right to practice her faith, but also humiliated her and caused her unnecessary emotional suffering”.
Muslim women sometimes may feel like they need to compromise who they are, just to fit in. A clear example that illustrates this is the story of Halima Adem, a Kenyan model who would wear her hijab on the runway. Although the fashion industry had been very good for her, letting her wear the hijab with no problems, respecting her boundaries about her religion, she would realize that for some less high profile Muslim models, the treatment was not the same. They would be forced in some cases to undress in public, despite going against Islam’s teaching.
Concluding, all these examples that were brought up, emphasize the negative stereotypes that Muslim women all around the globe suffer, being their clothing a crucial factor that helps with that, having their image distorted or incomplete. As said in the article “How to Beat Stereotypes by Seeing People as Individuals” by Zaid Jilani, august 28, 2019, “it is important to build bridges between different kinds of people: focusing on individual characteristics rather than group identity”. This shows that their individuals have much more to present to the world than the stereotypes involving the group they belong to.

Absolute cunt from my school no fucking joke accused me of being a trans dude I'm friends with, and when she did that misgendered and deadnamed him 💀💀💀💀 worst fucking part is I had to fucking go up to her and tell her to stop purposely misgendering, acting like he's an "other" (giving him weird looks, laughing and mocking him when he's mentioned/using his name , etc), and GOD I HATE THOSE PEOPLE.
I've experienced most of those things from my peers throughout my life and it feels like they're just mocking him and acting like he's subhuman. I hate knowing that my friends have to go through all this shit for just being themselves :/ and don't even get me started on assholes who use religion to justify hate 💀💀💀💀
No BC like, literally nobody's oppressing you or discriminating against you or your religion because they told you to not spew hate speech and threats of violence 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀
Hatred in any fucking form, from whether acting as if someone is stupid an "don't know what they're talking about" to calls for violence is something that should never be accepted or left to be displayed.

Not a word from America's Feminists
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taliban Ministry of Vice and Virtue spokesman Molvi Mohammad Sadiq Akif explained on Thursday that his extremist regime forces women to cover their faces because the “value” of a woman “decreases” when men look at her.
“It is very bad to see women in some areas, and our scholars also agree that women’s faces should be hidden,” Akif told the Associated Press. By “see women in some areas,” he meant seeing women walking around without mandatory face coverings in crowded cities.
“It’s not that her face will be harmed or damaged. A woman has her own value and that value decreases by men looking at her. Allah gives respect to females in hijab and there is value in this,” he said.
Akif claimed Afghans are delighted to have the Taliban’s severe interpretation of Islamic law imposed on them again. Women, in particular, are supposedly happy that the Taliban is forcing them to cover up so men will not leer at them. He then admitted his regime maintains an extensive network of secret police and informants to ensure everyone is experiencing the full measure of mandatory happiness with Taliban rule.

Members of Afghanistan’s Powerful Women Movement, take part in a protest in Kabul on May 10, 2022. About a dozen women chanting “burqa is not my hijab” protested in the Afghan capital on May 10 against the Taliban’s order for women to cover fully in public, including their faces. (WAKIL KOHSAR/AFP via Getty Images)
“Our ombudsmen walk in markets, public places, universities, schools, madrasas and mosques. They visit all these places and watch people. They also speak with them and educate them. We monitor them and people also cooperate with and inform us,” he said.
Asked to justify the Taliban’s cruel ban on women going to public parks and gymnasiums, Akif clarified that women are only forbidden to enter parks if men happen to be there.
“You can go to the park, but only if there are no men there. If there are men, then sharia does not allow it. We don’t say that a woman can’t do sports, she can’t go to the park or she can’t run. She can do all these things, but not in the same way as some women want, to be semi-naked and among men,” he said.
Critics of the Taliban are unlikely to be satisfied with this apologia for brutish misogyny. On Wednesday, U.N. Special Envoy for Global Education Gordon Brown proposed prosecuting Taliban leaders for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court (ICC).
Brown forwarded a legal opinion to the ICC arguing that the Taliban’s ban on women receiving an education should be prosecuted as institutionalized “gender discrimination.” He also suggested convincing Muslim countries to send a delegation of Islamic scholars to convince the Taliban that banning women from education and employment has “no basis in the Quran or Islamic religion.”
Brown thought there was a “split within the regime” between Taliban ministers in Kabul who might be willing to restore women’s education and fire-breathing “clerics in Kandahar” who demanded the ban. This optimistic analysis would seem to be contradicted by the Taliban minister explaining on Thursday that keeping women wrapped in cloth preserves their value.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid immediately dismissed Brown’s concerns as “political propaganda” and insisted the ban on women in schools will remain in effect, although he conceded “the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan does not deny there are issues in terms of rights which need reform.”
The Taliban consolidated its grip on power on Wednesday by banning all other political parties from Afghanistan, ruling that they, too, are violations of Islamic law.
“There is no Sharia basis for political parties to operate in the country. They do not serve the national interest, nor does the nation appreciate them,” said Taliban justice minister Abdul Hakim Sharaee.
Afghanistan had about 70 political parties before President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal swept the Taliban into power two years ago. Much of the leadership of those parties fled the country after the fall of Kabul in August 2021.
“The political party ban is expected to complicate reconciliation efforts among Afghans seeking to initiate a dialogue between various political factions. The international community has supported such a dialogue with the aim of eventually forming a broad-based government in the war-torn nation,” Radio Free Europe (RFE) said on Thursday.
RFE inadvertently touched on one of the major reasons why the Taliban imposed the ban: The last thing the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan wants is an internationally-supported dialogue between various political factions that might result in a national reconciliation that displaces absolute Taliban rule in favor of a broad-based government.
RFE implicitly accused the Taliban of hypocrisy for banning political parties because the Taliban itself is essentially an offshoot of an Islamist party in Pakistan, which then flourished as an insurgent student movement in Afghanistan in the 1990s. “Hypocrisy” might not be the best term for the Taliban deciding to eliminate political parties so no fresh insurgent movement might grow to someday challenge authoritarian Taliban rule.

I agree with you on a lot of your points even as a religious person and I wanted to say I'm glad you're not someone who uses their atheism to be anti Semitic as I've looked up to you for a very long time
Thank you very much! I very much try! I don’t want to take much credit given there’s always the chance I might fuck up someday, or hell, even in this post, but it heartens me a lot to hear you’ve looked up to me!
… Well, heartens and scares me in equal measures, but that’s not going to ever change, lol. It’s scary to apparently have people who’ve looked up to me! I’m Just Some Guy! (Well, actually a girl, but like. Metaphorically.)
I think, if I have to say anything, part of why I talk about stuff like this is because my beef isn’t with believing in the afterlife, or participating in religion, I know some people do have beef with that, but I don’t really think it’s feasible to expect that people are ever going to stop believing in the afterlife, or organizing religions. It would also likely involve oppressing people for their beliefs, no matter the intention of any campaign against it, which means it’s not worth it. If people or the larger forces of society ever stop being as religious, and that’s a really big if, it should never be because people were forced to stop believing in their religon, it should be because we discovered answers to some of the questions of life that makes religion less important for people. I doubt that would happen, but I can’t dismiss that possibility, given the history of secularity as science has evolved over the years indicating things are trending away from religion.
Basically, my beef isn’t with, like, religion as a concept, but rather, people believing things about reality that we know to be not true. Flat earth, astrology, those sorts of things. Discriminating against people for reasons with no basis in science. These things are bad, not specifically because they are religious; they are bad because they are harmful. They are bad because they are untrue, and that’s enough for me! Some people claim all of religion is untrue, and while I think to some extent I personally agree, I don’t particularly care what people believe privately, as long as they aren’t using it to justify false beliefs about reality or harming others. It’s just not my business, and it’s not worth it when more harmful beliefs still exist.
Basically, as I said in my long anti-astrology post a while back; The TLDR here is; evidence based beliefs are good and based and unfalsifiable beliefs are bad and cringe. That’s what really matters to me.
