body swap - leaving the house (reigen's POV)
mobs POV
first comic
(pls rb!)
ID UNDER CUT
for the purposes of this transcript, I will be calling Reigen in Mob's body "Reigen". But keep in mind he looks like Mob.
Reigen eats breakfast next to Ritsu with a very happy face. He has crumbs around his mouth. He thinks to himself: "This tastes so good... I should get back into cooking... sorry for eating your breakfast, mob! I'll pay you back in takoyaki later, okay? Wait, Mob..."
He frowns and thinks: "I have no idea where he is right now."
Close up of Reigen's hand holding a spoon with food inside. He thinks: "Well I'd assume he's in my body right now. But if he isn't... then is his spirit just... floating around? fuck, I really have no clue."
He raises the spoon up to his open mouth, but it bends. The spoon has a purple aura around it.
Reigen scowls at Ritsu, pointing the bent spoon at him accusingly. He says "hey, what's the big idea, ritsu!? don't bend my spoon, I was trying to eat!"
Ritsu glances at him, slightly annoyed. He says "Eh? that wasn't me, shige... that was you."
Mob's mother crosses her arms and scolds Reigen: "Shigeo, don't go blaming your brother for that bad habit of yours." Mob's dad smiles and leans over. He says "Aw, c'mon, dear! They're just being brothers!"
Reigen straightens up, sweating. "Uh! yes, ma'am- mom. Yes, mom." He says.
Ritsu hands a spoon to Reigen. "Here, I unbent it for you."
Reigen takes the spoon and says. "Oh, uh. Thanks, ritsu."
Cut to later, Reigen in Mob's room. Mob's mother yells up at him: "SHIGE! GET DRESSED!"
Reigen yells back "I AM! GIVE ME A MINUTE!"
He begins to lift up Mob's PJ shirt before pausing. He lets go of it and frowns. He says: "I can't get changed while I'm in mob's body. That'd be... weird. But I can't let him walk out in PJ's either."
He sits down and swears: "shit." before thinking. A lightbulb goes off over his head, signifying an idea.
He leaps up, pulling Mob's school uniform over his pajamas. He smiles and says: "I've got it! I'll wear his uniform over my pajamas! it's so thick that nobody will notice!"
Cut to later. Mob's mother watches her children go with her arms crossed and a slightly worried expression on her face. Mob's father waves goodbye and is saying something to her. He also looks a little worried.
We see Reigen and Ritsu walking side by side to school, both carrying bags. Reigen's uniform is bulging around the stomach due to the fact that he still has pajamas on underneath the school clothes. The entire outfit is lumpy. Ritsu stares down at his stomach, cringing a little and confused.
A text box above reads: "Everyone noticed."

I am so sorry for killing you in my comment about Reigen's family being wrongfully portrayed as "evil abusive ne'erdogoods", I swear it was an accident. I think it would count as friendly fire, even. Either way, still massively sorry.
Like, I wanna give my favourite characters really interesting relationships with other characters, especially their family. I had been thinking about Karl and Kirsche's entire situation again lately and yeah. The relationship between parents and children just IS fucking complicated, even if you are TECHNICALLY on perfectly good terms with each other.
I mean. That's just life, innit?
I am very glad that I have a very good relationship with my family (beyond the fact that they don't know I'm a man) so I normally haven't had that much trouble but when my dad invites me to his wife's family's christmas party I feel like I'm trying to diffuse a bomb while getting progressively more and more drunk

so i was making good headway on ch2 but then needed to check a thing about reigen's dad to make sure i squeezed all the deliciousness from canon to flavor this fic stew.
so reigen's dad is in the fanbook stated to be a local level civil servant, and to think that reigen's essentially jobless. i already thought that he's probably working with some nebulous sort of admin stuff, because if he was a teacher or something, it would have said he's a teacher, right?
the kind of nebulous bureaucrats i could think of for reference, well, make it pretty easy to think that reigen's whole rant to the 7th branch gang about growing up and becoming proper members of society might be coming from stuff he heard a lot at home.
a discussion with a friend sent me double checking all this. so, naturally, i go to a japanese site that provides information on various careers for students. hey, it'll be the exact kind of clear and practical information i need, and i can just throw paragraphs into translate and they'll come out fine.
then i threw in the section about what kind of person would be suited to work as a local civil servant.
"[--] best suited for the type of person who can get close to local residents and find it rewarding to provide services directly to them. Since departments change every few years, it is necessary to have the ability to adapt to any kind of work."
i swear to gods
i swear to gods if reigen ended up working at the miserable water cooler phone sales place when he's exactly the person described as ideal for working as a local civil servant because he refused to follow his father's footsteps and work the same job as him.
i swear to the fUCKING GODS
the worst part is that in the third season of the anime, in the first episode. they added the heartfelt talk between him and mob. and he tells mob, all but saying the exact words out loud, that his reason to continue with s&s was him. and then that what you want to do doesn't have to be your job at all. and that ends this whole subtle character arc with a pretty bow on top.
did reigen self-sabotage himself into actually ending up happier than he would have been if he followed the ideal path set up for him??

Did the Confession Now We Move on to the Future
Did The Confession, Now We Move On To The Future by 3 Vermilion Cats
It's over. The endless pining and uncertainty, Mob's powers going berserk with him having no say in the matter… it's all over. For now, he's more distraught about the former, but Master Reigen and Dimple are there with him as he sobs and sobs, feeling like a piece of fabric someone pulled out of a washing machine, wrung out and scrubbed the floor with, then put back in the washing machine with the most intense, long and high-temperature cleaning settings possible, finally pulled out to wring all the water out again, only then hanging him out to dry, leaving him exhausted and beat down, yet... feeling lighter.
The city is a disaster, and it's Mob's fault.
or:
After a teenager's mental breakdown almost destroyed the entire city, everyone deals with the immediate aftermath.

ok say hello to my insanely new oc who ive made entirely to be a villain who is still an excellent adult and a decent parent, probably. cares too much abt kids. think reigen mob psycho with a drop or two of milla. worked under Nick From The Mailroom and was actually in on his scheme.
has always been rather cold and brash towards adults, but is more caring towards kids. in my brain he has a brooklyn type accent? rough and tumble, walks around without a tie, yknow? they keep him cause he sorts mail real good, though.
(added a read more because this got INSANELY LONG AKSKSK i spent like an hr on this h)
he was a delugeionist, but only because he kinda just wanted to rip the world apart a little; lysandre vibes, thinks a lot of it is scum and needs to go. thinks the *psychonauts* are scum and need to go. hes psychic but suppressed it, think aquato parents but extra toxic about it, and straight up just saying being psychic is unnatural. wouldnt go to loboto parent lengths tho. so he adopted that thought of 'being psychic is unnatural and wrong', which contributed to a lot of self hate that was never learned out. likely, he realizes hes a shitty person and thinks he needs to go too. so like...yknow hank, dbh? kinda the vibe im gettin right now. way more formal, of course, and while usually gruff, is more polite when its needed; can and *will* beat the shit out of you verbally in a factual way, though, and can talk more street-lingo if hes talkin to real thugs. (probably winged it on his own after failing college or smth, hes got the vibes.)
anyways, its this plot where he slinks off and starts planting mistrust in the psychonauts or something. and inevitably he just...shows up and starts kidnapping people. dismantling things from the inside and all that. he left and formed a group who also hated psychics at some point, likely friends of his parents and friends of friends, all from his hometown. all of them fight *insanely* dirty, and a lot of them are insanely vulgar. the kids are supposed to be kept away.
but theres a line to follow here.
this man is a fold to raz. hates the psychonauts, hates being psychic, adopted his parent's hate of psychics, hates the *world.* raz is young and unburdened and unjaded...mostly. hes not the shock of water some young characters can be when it comes to being the foils of other characters; think steven with a villain or something, right? but raz is sassy and a little jaded, and not total sunshine positivity.
hes a child this man could look down on and not be immediately annoyed by, who is worried by yet respects raz's realization of the world as it is, however little that is.
and yet raz is still his foil. he still mostly loves the psychonauts, despite it all, he loves being psychic, for the most part, he dodged adopting his parents previous values, he still seems to have an even view of the world as a whole.
raz is jaded, if only a little, but he moved past it and accepted that things could still be bright. this man is jaded, but he stayed in his stormclouds, never looked for the sun.
ok where. was i. RIGHT ok so. at the beginning of this...story? the man finds raz being talked down to by one of the office workers; someone with weak psychic powers whos insanely jealous of his prowess. an adult who envies the young prodigy. and theyre giving him some insane task to do, like cleaning all of the closets within the hour, but hes saved the world twice, so he smiles and nods along, because he said he would help around the motherlobe, and this adult is asking him to do something that seems simple enough.
and this guy, internally, goes 'bitch.' for a good long second bc 1. dude even if you envy a kid, kinda fucked to show that?? not their fault 2. WHY are you asking a 10 year old to do that. why is there a 10 year old here. holy shit thats a 10 year old oh my god hes so tiny (no one told him there was a 10 year old because they knew hed stomp right up to management but. regardless. he is going to stomp up to management after this and no one can really stop him. except maybe raz well see)
so yknow. dude fixes his slight slouch and walks forward and politely tells this woman that 1. hes 10 why are you jealous of him and 2. hes 10????????? and shes like shit hes 10. and apologizes. and walks away
and raz is VERY ?? bc she was doing what? why is him being 10 important? and its that young part of you that gets pissed when people try to keep you from doing things because youre young and hes DEFINITELY yet to learn that piling responsibilites that should be handled by adults onto a child is fucked up in its own special way (looking at you ford, *nick*)
and the dude calmly explains because yea. he gets that. and he still sounds gruff and a little peeved but he squats down to razs height and he talks simply and factually, telling him straight on why it isnt right.
and. huh. people dont really do that for raz. except for sasha, sometimes, everyone likes to dodge the truth a lot with him, because hes 10, and sometimes, hes too nice to tug it out of them.
and this guy, this man that raz is already polishing a trophy for 'good adulting' in the back of his brain with his striking statements about how adults should handle things and kids should-kids should...get to have fun. not be traumatized.
for the shock on his face when raz said hed already saved the world a couple times, whats some closets. he reigned it in, said that its weird he saved the world, because thats usually their jobs.
and this guy offers his hand on instict before he stands up, even though he doesnt seem very sweet and kind like the adults that usually offer raz a hand. and he takes it, i think. he takes it.
warm. warm, a little nice.
reminds raz of his dad, maybe. he wonders if this man has any kids himself, but keeps his mouth shut, because he thinks he already has the answer, and its yes.
(he doesnt have any. he would wish he did, but he knows hed fail to raise them right.)
and when he stands, he asks raz what he was asking that woman for, and he says hes doing tasks around the motherlobe because his papers are still coming in. the man doesnt ask. (he knows what 'papers' means, realizes this is the tiny junior psychonaut every room in the damn place has been buzzing about, and he has fucking words for forsythe.) he just offers for the kid to sort mail under his supervision.
and that sounds boring. at least, it usually would.
this man is interesting, and a good...person? a good adult? hes...hes new. hes new, and calm, and a little like sasha but a lot not, and he thinks he trusts him.
so raz grins and says yea, mail sorting sounds nice.
(debatably, raz does not take his hand. hes too jaded when it comes to adults. debatably, he does not feel any warmth from this man who has taught him every adult has been telling him wrong. debatably, im projecting. but thats the whole point of ocs, hm?)
and then holes crop up in motherlobe systems. people are kidnapped.
raz keeps seeing the strange man, keeps telling him things, keeps hearing back, gruff and factual and a little annoyed, but raz can almost-just-barely tell its not at him, with the way he talks.
he can tell. he can tell.
he can never tell. this man is making sure he can tell.
raz trusts the man, is still polishing that trophy for 'best adulting' he has settling in the back of his mind.
and then the man comes with a militia.
he did not seem jaded. he did not seem hateful. he never showed any anger or hate towards raz.
but thats because he knows kids dont deserve it.
an excellent moral or two. a rotten, broken heart.
and at first, they keep the kids away, because these people fight dirty, because this isnt their battle, because the man has been sending emails about why 15 year olds are in a secret psychic agency.
(he does not mention raz. by razs second visit, he had just marked the boy down as another reason to hate the psychonauts as a whole, and especially its higher ups.
hes also regretting his alliance to nick by about the third. if he had known the man would puppet a child as if they were a toy, he would have organized his own rebellion ages ago.)
but eventually, the psychonauts need all hands on deck.
they send the children to find the missing agents.
the interns are fought on the way. some of them avoid the child, know the boss would pummel them.
they get to the base, and the strange man, the one with the broken trophy for 'best adult' (still barely-polished, because hes still so sure) still nestled in the back of razs brain, is still there.
the junior psychonauts are spotted. one of the guards throws a few rocks aimlessly.
they surprise them. one almost hits raz.
its intercepted instead.
and the other junior psychonauts watch as this man, their enemy, a villain, in their eyes, reprimands the other man for even accidentally daring, for even trying. for doing something they might have done just a month or so ago, if they had decided he was too much weirder than they already had.
and he yells something like, "Why the hell is he even here?! This is an enemy base, of whats a rebellion! This is a *10 year old*! What kind of adult sends a child *near* something like that?!" and he truly sounds angry this time, raz finds. hes too angry to keep it in. he still sounds gruff and oddly proper. raz is standing there, arms hanging. hes baffled in a specific way, the way he was every time the man's brow furrowed when he mentioned a harrowing story, the way he was the first day they met.
and he asks, a little quiet, a little small, a reminder of how young he really is, "Why are you still trying to keep me safe? We're supposed to be enemies now."
And his brow furrows further before flattening out, and he tilts onto one leg, and he swears he almost kneels to a knee.
He cant believe it. He really cant.
"You're 10." he says simply, softly, that factual way. "You shouldn't even be here."
and raz pauses. the interns freeze.
"...well, here I am."
and i think...it would be so intriguing if this was done halfway out of the mind, because this man is so against anything psychic. it would be so *compelling.*
so raz steps forward and asks again, asks why hes doing this.
and the mans eyes harden, he tries to turn off that soft heart, trying to remind himself of all that he hates. because he hates the psychonauts, because he sort of hates the world.
and raz asks why he could ever hate the psychonauts, head tilted, before listing off the few he knows to be true. but other than that, how? and ok, the world sucks a little, yea, hes seen that, gets that.
and he appreciates that this kid isnt totally gung ho about existence.
but he hates that he isnt, too.
and its this back and forth. everything the man hates, why he hates it. raz saying why its good but admitting why its bad.
and hes swayed, just a little.
but the man stands up from the kneel hed inevitably instinctively put himself into, and walks forward, hand held out yet again.
"You shouldn't be in the Psychonauts," he tells him, soft, factual, brow furrowed. "Come with me. I'll bring you back to your parents, or wherever it is you want to go."
raz contemplates. thinks, for a long moment.
he grabs the mans hand, warm and firm, yet again, for a terrifying moment.
before he reaches up to slap a mental door on his forehead, and astral projects into it.
he thinks this man is good. thinks hes just jaded.
thinks hes the best adult hes ever met, one who just happens to hate a lot of things.
hes only 10.
hes not letting someone who can tell him so clearly whats wrong and right for adults to tell him go that easily.
aaaand yknow. raz does his razzy thing. learns about why the guy hates the world and the psychonauts and himself. helps him learn that its not all bad, that he was excellent to raz, and still is, that things can be bad and good all at once.
the man concedes that raz is very capable, very smart, and can do a lot. but that doesnt mean he should have to.
raz tells him, though, that he likes working for the psychonauts. its his dream. and he realizes some things he was told to do were kinda screwed up, now. that maybe, in honesty, he was dealt a bad hand.
but hes done what he can with that hand, and he ended up with a royal flush.
and uh! yknow!! then raz leaves his mind and he calls off the rebellion! its like a rhombus of ruin type adventure, except without the villain being present beforehand. its just not clustered in insanely close with a ton of other wild shit.
anyways this got really long? sorry?? its an oc i just saw good adult and slight father vibe potential in the vibe i instantly got on him and then i went feral???? rip maybe someone will read this and if you did. congrats i honestly really liked how the whole foil and good-yet-bad and consideration of raz being 10 thing worked out. this oc is almost like our representative in the psychonauts world the way reigen is for the audience in mp100. yea :) i match them up a lot but thats just cause they vibe a lot. anyways its 1:40 am now and i spent abt an hour on this hope it vibed mildly byeeee

“He feels a sudden warmth in his chest. He didn’t know Cor loved him. It’s good. It’s good.
Cor smiles at him. Then he frowns. “Wait, what was that about Papa Bear?” he asks.
“Arcis calls you that,” he says. “And papa means the same thing as dad.” He doesn’t know what bear means.
Cor’s mouth twitches. “Arcis, huh?” he says.
“Yes,” he says.
Cor nods. “OK,” he says. He walks past him, squeezing his shoulder as he passes. “Finish your breakfast. I just gotta have a quick word with someone.”
He sits down and picks up his cup. Cor leaves the room and closes the door behind him. He hears him calling Arcis’s name, muffled through the wood. He drinks the tea from the cup. It makes him feel warm.
He feels warm.”
IT’S DONE. Almost all pencil, since I turned out liking it this way?? Also if I tried coloring it’d never get done :/ Pretty much on of the cutest scenes from Poor Wayfaring Stranger, by Lithos_saeculum, in the latest chapter ;v; Cor fully accepting his role as Prompto’s dad and lots of GOOD HUGS. I’ve also redrawn this like 4 times through the layout/storyboarding process, so there’s no readmore, y’all get to see it in all it’s long post glory :P (clicking the pics should make them easier to read! Sorry Cor swears alot....)

Helloo I found your blog yesterday and your art is so beautiful! I love your AUs and oh god I get so emotional about found family Teru ;-; thank you for sharing your art keep up the amazing work!
Tumblr media
Thanks!! I love them and their relationship help me deal with my own "has dad but not really" status. Allow me to ramble a bit:
Teru having secondhand embarrassment for how enthusiastic Reigen cheers him in his soccer games but it warms his heart when Reigen keeps going how proud he's even when they lose.
Reigen making sure in PTA meetings who's dad he is, with unnecessary comments like "Yes, my son, Teru. You know the honor student one, yes he's also great in soccer, surely you know him he's quite handsome..."
About PTA meetings, he definitely uses that opportunity to give all the mothers coupons just "in case your child is being possessed by a lazy spirit"
If they go to him, he finds the student's learning style and creates a healthy study routine to exorcize them
REIGEN TELLING EVERYONE HOW LUCKY TERU IS FOR INHERITING HIS GOOD LOOKS. Despite being adopted
The legal process to emancipate Teru is hurtful, because Teru has to realize how his parents don't actually care for him and despite how hard Reigen tries to don't get him too involved, his presence is required.
Teru deals with it refusing to acknowledge the issue and overcompensating with a happy facade. But at 3 am when all his defenses are low, sitting beside Reigen, both with insomnia and half eaten cereal, he ask him how he's feeling in such a caring and non invasive way that everything crumbles and talks about the loneliness, the anger, the emptiness and abandonment issues. He keeps going because despite feeling the most vulnerable is his life when he looks at Reigen's face there is no pity nor confusion, there's empathy and honest worry with a bit of controlled rage that he knows isn't toward him but his parents.
When Reigen decides to hug him, he can't hold it anymore and cries to sleep.
The next morning Reigen's back is killing him for sleeping sitting in the couch but swears the pain vanished the instant he hears Teru casually call him dad.
They don't change Teru's last name. Teru says is because Reigen Teruki sounds horrible. Reigen agrees: "Sure, don't see the point if it's going to change in some years, and Kageyama Teruki sounds way be- "
You have to stop when your 15 year old son is literally in flames and a face so red you aren't sure he's breathing
They tease each other a lot, from crushes to the shame of being the Mario Kart loser
HEAR ME OUT, BOTH FASHION DISASTERS! Teru would be going out with seven different patterns and Reigen would be like "are you going out like this? Really? Your game is weak kid" while putting something atrocious
They are poor as fuck (well lower middle class) but Reigen always makes sure Teru has fresh veggies and fruits because he's a growing boy
They don't eat broccoli tho
Ok, I have more of this but gotta stop since this is getting long.

Mob Psycho Fic Recs
I've been keeping track of some of my favorite finished and in-progress mp100 fics as I find them and figured I'd show them some love by linking them here! They come in no particular order or genre, just whichever I bookmarked last haha. If you"re looking for good mp100 fics be sure to check these out!
To Strike A Chord Author: Hino Rating: Teen Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: platonic ritshou, mutual trauma, post world domination arc Summary: Ritsu visits Shou, feeling uneasy about his past. But he's not the only one. My Notes: Short and sweet, it touches on Shou and Ritsu’s mutual trauma from the World Domination arc and gives insight in the Suzuki family relationship before Touichirou decided to take over the world. Also Shou plays the guitar.
Of Cold Hands Reaching Author: UncannyCookie Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: terumob (can be read as platonic), angst, ptsd, trauma recovery, hurt/comfort, dissociation, miscommunication, post-mogami arc, slow burn Summary: After six months in Mogami's mind world that weren't even real anyway, Mob returns to his old life. Everything is fine. My Notes: A really interesting take on what Mob’s mind looks like after spending six months in Mogami’s fake world. It gets pretty real when discussing Mob’s dissociation and apathy about the whole thing but gets sweet at the end and has a happy ending. It’s introspective, which I really like, but has enough lighter moments in between that it doesn’t feel heavy constantly.
Delirium Author: Janekfan Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: serirei, pneumonia, hospitalization, guilt, smoking, depression, sel-harm, panic attacks, fever, sickfic, love, kissing, caretaking, misunderstandings, mental instability, flashbacks, unconsciousness Summary: Reigen questions himself. My Notes: Reigen decides to pick up smoking again as a coping mechanism and hides it from Serizawa. It goes into Reigen’s feelings of self-loathing and depressive tendencies that the manga only really touches on. It’s dreary pretty much throughout but does have a happy ending to end on a high note!
April Fools Author: SparkyFrootloops Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: Complete Tags: dad reigen, good parent reigen, teru is reigen’s son, hijinks & shenanigans, pranks Summary:  Teruki gets to celebrate April Fools Day at his new home with Reigen. My Notes: This fic is short but so so funny and full of heart. Teru trying to prank Reigen, who he lives with in the context of the story, is hilarious and all the dialogue is just gold. I also really love Mob’s cameo in the second half. Just a solid found family comedy one-shot to lighten your mood and make you smile.
Broken, Repaired, New Author: GalacticConfectionist Rating: T Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: serirei, abuse, child abuse, domestic violence (all abuse is only implied/referenced, never shown), light angst, hurt/comfort, pining, good parent reigen, good brother reigen, original character but she’s really good Summary: “You’re a good kid” He said, ruffling his student’s hair. There’s a moment of quiet and Reigen sighs, “Mob, remember this. Guys who hit women are the biggest losers in the world.” Reigen’s sister comes to visit, shenanigans ensue. My Notes: I don’t usually go for fics with ocs in them since I don’t typically end up connecting with them but this is one of the rare exceptions! Reigen’s sister escapes her abusive husband with her daughter and goes to Reigen for help. She ends up staying with Serizawa and trying to set him up with her brother. Despite the references to abuse it’s actually a very lighthearted fic about wanting to make your friends happy and taking care of those you consider to be family. Misaki and Reigen’s sibling relationship is well-written and she has enough personality and motivation to make me invested in her situation. Just an all-around good read if you want to smile and feel happy.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! lol Author: marnies Rating: Not Rated Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: serirei, good parent reigen, good parent serizawa, sickfic, fluff, epic family moments Summary:  reigen and serizawa adopt teru and shou and move in together asmr My Notes: This fic is just a good time. It’s not too far in but still has enough content to be worth a read. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, but that’s the charm of it, and it comes across as humorous and lighthearted with its found family dynamics. Reigen and Serizawa are both clueless parents of their adopted sick kids and are just trying to help each other out.
The Space Between Author: sofia-estrella Rating: M (nsfw content in later chapters) Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: serirei, reigen pov, slow burn, coworkers to friends to lovers Summary: Reigen never expected Serizawa to stay. My Notes: A really nice fic about how Reigen and Serizawa’s relationship grows and evolves slowly as they spend more than a year together over the course of the narrative. Both Reigen and Serizawa are very in character and their relationship is approached with care and concern from both sides, which I think is very fitting for them! It does a good job of balancing soft character interaction with personal squabbles and drama, which makes for an interesting and entertaining read.
The Joy of Cooking (for a Family You Didn’t Know You Had) Author: pepperfield Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: good parent reigen, background serirei, found family, unintentional parenthood, cooking, meddling kids, family fluff, food as a metaphor for love, getting together, light pining, 5+1 Summary: At first, it's easy. Mob likes takoyaki. This, Reigen can remember. When Teru moves in, things get a little more complex, but it's fine. He only has to feed one kid on a regular basis; he can handle this. But before he knows it, he's memorized all of Tome's favorite restaurants and he's keeping a stash of snacks in the office just in case Shou visits. This whole "family" business has gotten out of hand. My Notes: Good old dad Reigen taking care of his five unruly children. In this fic Teru lives with Reigen and everyone else is just along for the collective ride. It’s a 5+1 fic about Reigen cooking/buying food for the kids as a way to show he cares about them. It’s really cute and shows how much Reigen cares about the esper boys and Tome after all is said and done in the manga.
On Revelations and Renovations Author: mustdang100 Rating: G Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: good parent reigen, reigen adopts teru, background serirei, hurt/comfort, adoption, fluff and humor, 5+1 Summary: “I’m really sorry to bother you, but, ah, I don’t suppose that offer to stay at your place for the night was still an option?” Five times Reigen got called a 'dad,' and one time he called himself one - a vignette-style fic on how Teruki grows up and Reigen acquires a family in the days, months, and years following the World Domination arc. My Notes: Teru decides to stay with Reigen after all following the world domination arc, and then never leaves. It’s a super cute and fun fic about found family dynamics between all the main cast, but specifically Reigen and Teru. Teru and Reigen’s banter is well-written and funny, and the whole concept and execution is really charming and fun to ready.
A Real (Psychic) Conman Author: Trinz Rating: T Archive Warnings: None Completion Status: In Progress Tags: esper!reigen, empath!reigen, swearing, reigen centric Summary:  An AU where Reigen actually is the 21st century's greatest psychic- or at least the second, or third, or maybe fourth- the point is that he’s an esper and his "I'm so powerful I can hide my aura" thing is... actually true. My Notes: This is one of my current favorite fics. I read it all over the course of like two days up to its current chapter and I’m in love with the author’s psychic Reigen concept. It follows the canon storyline with some divergence to account for Reigen actually having powers, and really paints him in a different light. It also has an air of mystery with its over-arching plot that, seventeen chapters in, still has only been hinted at, but the real star of the fic is the way a psychically powered Reigen interacts with Mob, Ritsu, and Dimple and the creative ways the author incorporates his powers of telepathy and empathy. Really creative and a super fun long read if you want a longer story!

this is messy and quick but… i was watching Wolf Children, and got an idea. i swear every time i get into a fandom, i have to make a werewolf au. SO, here’s an mp100 version. very loosely inspired by the movie(doesn’t totally follow the same story) all i got so far is:
- the psychics are werewolves now - reigen is the boys’ godfather and somehow ends up with two weres for kids. i’m thinking something happened to their parents but i don’t know yet - he has no idea how to handle it, but moves the family up to the mountains where they can revel in both sides of their heritage - mob is uncomfortable with his wolf side; i’m thinking he may have lost control a bit when they were little and took it out on ritsu. never forgave himself - ritsu on the other hand, loves his other side, but isn’t a naturally gifted shifter like his brother. he has trouble with it because , as much as he wants it, there’s a deep fear of it too
- as the kids get older, they venture out more, and mob meets a strange man named serizawa, who lives even farther up the mountain. mob instantly knows he’s a wolf, he can smell it on him. he tells reigen, and reigen gets all excited like “oh thank god, someone who can educate me so i can educate my kids” - reigen goes to introduce himself, but serizawa is very much a recluse and turns him away, especially when the wolf subject it brought up - reigen earns his trust over the months tho, being a good neighbour and all that. they become friends and seri confides in him, opening up about his hate and anxiety towards the wolf in him. he has terrible control over it, and during an argument, hurt his mother when he was younger. he ran from home and became a hermit in the mountains. but it’s okay tho! he met his “wise master”(suzuki), who has “helped” him cope and learn to control it. suzuki convinced him that as long as the moon was full, he’d be okay while changed. serizawa deep down understands this scientifically makes no sense, but still finds comfort in the moon. it’s something to focus on - the super 5 and toichirou aren’t evil masterminds in this au, just a weird little pack of guys who don’t really like each other but need each other - meanwhile, ritsu has met shou, a little fox shifter who cajoles(bothers) him into being friends. shou helps ritsu let loose and tap into his shifting without fear. shou tells him all about his dumb dad who thinks he’s “lord of the mountain” or some nonsense - serizawa eventually realizes he’s being manipulated, and leaves the super 5 pack behind. he agrees to teach the kids what he knows, and becomes more confident and comfortable - this helps mob out a lot, to the point where he completely accepts both sides of himself. mob comes to realize, after not enjoying school, and accepting himself, that he’s meant for the wild more than the city. he still has plenty of human friends who he loves to visit. ritsu discovers he’s more comfortable living life as a man, but still makes plenty of time to go run with his brother - i’ll figure out where teru and tome and everyone else can fit in
*edit* okay teru is def the kid at school who thinks he’s the only one of his kind. he thinks he’s hot shit. tome is the local cryptid enthusiast and swears she saw bigfoot. it was just seri-wolf. when she befriends mob, she learns all about werewolves but that’s not nearly as exciting as bigfoot and aliens

Serizawa Week Ficlet #2: Power
@serizawaweek2019
Day 2: Gen. Tome learns the true extent of Serizawa’s powers.
AO3 Link
“Fuck,” Reigen wheezed.
It occurred to Tome in that moment that he didn’t usually swear in front of her. She’d assumed he just never swore in general, but now she had a flash of suspicion that he consciously chose to wash his mouth out around her and Mob.
What the hell, Reigen. She was 17, not a baby.
But this thought came and went very quickly because they were both currently running for their lives, and that was a more pressing issue to attend to.
The forest around them bent with a cracking and snapping of trees, like they were wrenching their own roots out of the ground. It was only a little farther until she and Reigen made it back to the village at the edge of this cursed woods, but the sun was blotted out by a mass of darkness chasing after them. At this rate it would catch up to their heels in no time.
Tome had abandoned her dress shoes to run better, and her socks were absolutely sloshing with mud. She wasn’t used to running in a suit either. Since this was the first weekend job they’d allowed her on, she thought she’d put on the charms and prove herself as a useful marketer, fashion and all. She wanted more experiences that could actually be put on a college application when the time came, and maybe she’d been a little inspired by Reigen’s general getup as well. But now even the memory of how snazzy she’d felt earlier was a little bitter with how much the nice blazer weighed her down. At least a suit was better than her school skirts for running, but her tie kept flapping around her head like it was trying to attack her face.
She didn’t want to die looking so stupid. Least of all with Reigen.
“Fuck fuck fuck!” he was spouting like a mantra, stumbling out of the way of a falling log. He threw his arm across Tome’s back--either to keep spurring her onward or to shield her from something, she didn’t have time to check--and then the whole earth heaved under them, throwing them up into the air. Something grabbed her before she fell back down again. The world spun and jerked around. Then she found herself hanging upsidedown with her legs held fast by something itchy like ivy. She blew her tie and her hair out of her mouth. The darkness had caught up with them and she couldn’t see a thing.
“Reigen-san!”
“I’m working on it!” came his voice from beside her, but she wouldn’t be surprised if he was similarly confined.
Well. They’d lost.
“My mom’ll never forgive me if I die!” she yelled, and the darkness grew thicker, suffocating. It was like she could feel it sticking to the insides of her lungs. This wasn’t even supposed to be a real exorcism! It was supposed to be a networking event!
“Your mom will never forgive me, she practically murdered me just because you lost your uniform’s tie--”
“It was your fault for not going down that sewer after it--”
“Are you telling me you’d gladly wear a sewer tie?”
“You’re the worst!”
“I know! Shut up!”
Then all of the sudden the darkness exploded in a blinding wash of purple. The awfulness constricting in Tome’s lungs shriveled up into nothing and she gulped in good, fresh, warm air and blinked into sudden sunlight.
She was hanging in the air not by possessed trees now, but instead by Serizawa’s psychic powers. He had both hands extended toward them. Reigen was weirdly sideways and looking irritable.
“Just in time, Serizawa,” he said, spitting out a leaf.
Serizawa smiled a little, but looked worn out and worried.
He gently tilted them both upright and then floated them to the ground, depositing them lightly on their feet. Tome stood there for a moment, breathing deeply and trying to think of a joke, but then the shock wore off and she realized where she was standing.
Serizawa had not just exorcised the evil entity of this woods. He’d reduced the trees surrounding them to nothing but splinters in an instant. A huge circle was leveled to a fine powder around them, indistinguishable browns and greens all trampled down together, as if there hadn’t been a forest here at all within ten meters.
Tome was stunned. It was more power than she had ever seen Serizawa use.
He was still thrumming with it, a certain intensity in his eyes that wasn’t usually there, a leftover energy radiating from him.
It maybe frightened her a little, how very powerful he was.
Reigen seemed to sense something, because he stepped his way through the rubble and laid a hand on Serizawa’s shoulder.
“Just in time,” he repeated, in an oddly comforting way. “Good work, Serizawa.”
Serizawa seemed to shake off his darker mood and his smile became more genuine.
“You two really need to be more careful,” he chastised.
----------------------
Tome had done some research. She knew that Serizawa Katsuya, perhaps one of the most powerful espers in Seasoning City, had not just popped up out of nowhere.
What could she say? She was a conspiracy theorist at heart. Just out of her own interest she’d been poring over news footage and Youtube cellphone videos of the terrorists who tried to take over the world just over a year ago, and she’d spotted an umbrella among them that made a sick feeling coil in her stomach. After that shock, she’d had to stop prying for about a week or so. It felt like she’d seen something private, something twisted.
But she was always too curious for her own good. She couldn’t stay away from it.
She went to the internet and found a tiny local newspaper story about a boy twenty years ago who hurt four other kids and his own mother in an accident. The story didn’t supply details on the nature of the accident, but it did supply a name.
Serizawa Katsuya.
She started grilling Mob, who to his credit lasted a very long time before he finally caved under peer pressure.
“Serizawa-san has had a hard life,” he said simply. “He drew the attention of cruel people.”
“Tell me about Claw,” she demanded.
So he did. She could tell he was leaving out important details, probably for Serizawa’s sake, but she couldn’t blame him for that. She felt a horrible guilt even asking in the first place, like she was betraying Serizawa and everything he’d done for her.
But she was always too curious. She needed to know.
She’d known for awhile now.
She knew Serizawa Katsuya was powerful, so powerful that he was actually quite dangerous.
And sometimes she didn't know what to do with that.
------------------------
They still had a ways to walk to get back to the village. It would probably take some explaining to tell the villagers why their local forest had a giant hole in it now, but they’d surely be relieved to hear that their evil spirit problem had been greatly reduced.
Reigen talked too much as they walked, like he always did, and Serizawa quietly chuckled off and on. Tome was a little distracted. She’d lost her shoes after all, and now she just felt kind of foolish for dressing like a professional when she was really so over her head all the time.
Also her ankle hurt. A lot.
She must have twisted it or something. It kept shooting pain all the way up her calf to her knee, until she was limping to avoid putting pressure on it. It was just turning out to be an unexpectedly shitty day.
“Are you alright, Kurata-san?”
Tome stopped and looked up. Serizawa had appeared beside her, his eyebrows just slightly creased with worry.
“It’s just my leg…” she mumbled, feeling weirdly embarrassed. Or maybe it was more like ashamed.
Ashamed for knowing. Ashamed for being scared, even for a moment.
“Can I look at it for you?” he asked.
She sat there on the ground and he knelt in front of her, like a knight in front of a queen, and gently rolled her nasty mud sock off her foot. He pressed her heel between thumb and forefinger. It kind of made her think of getting help from her dad when she was little, when she scraped her knee or something. Even now she was still young enough to get that treatment sometimes, if she hurt herself badly enough and her dad was there. If the timing was just right. He was a good dad, all things considered.
Serizawa’s fingers were big but careful, barely touching her unless they had to test something, and then they were firm and sure.
“Does this hurt?” he asked, laying his palm on the bottom of her muddy foot and pushing up slowly.
“No-- not yet-- YEP there it is.”
Reigen hovered over them with a calculating look, but she had a feeling he was just bullshitting because he wasn’t sure how to be actually useful at the moment.
“It’s not broken, but…” Serizawa frowned. “Well. My powers aren’t really good for healing,” he said quietly.
Only destroying things.
She thought maybe she spotted a hint of sadness in him because of that, and she again felt ashamed.
“That’s ok,” she said lamely.
He turned, still kneeling, and patted his back. “Want a ride?” he asked.
She couldn’t help but laugh because it was so ridiculous. They were both still wearing suits. It looked so stupid.
“A ride would be great,” she said.
She climbed up on his back and he looped his arms under her knees and stood. Reigen was sneering at them. But Tome liked this, honestly. She perched her hands on Serizawa’s shoulders and sneered right back because hey she was taller than Reigen now so fuck you Reigen.
Also Serizawa’s back was warm, and she could feel a sturdiness behind her, like he was holding her in place ever so gently with his powers as well, to make sure she didn’t fall.
You’re really powerful aren’t you, Serizawa-san?
But like Mob he didn’t see a usefulness in psychic powers. In the sort of powers that could level trees and take over the world.
He instead saw usefulness in carrying someone on his back, very carefully, making sure they didn’t fall. In having gentle hands.
She remembered what he’d told her about finding out for herself what skills were important to her, and doing her best to put those out into the world. She decided that Serizawa was doing a really good job.
She luxuriated against his back like a queen, or maybe more like a cat who’d stolen her owner’s dinner.
“This is so much fucking better,” she declared.
Reigen’s head whipped around at the swear with the most alarmed look she’d ever seen.

Reigen had fucked up. He was broke, a criminal organisation was after him and he's stuck with a cryptid of a psychic murderer who thinks bowl-cuts are still in fashion.
They'll put this on his future gravestone: Reigen Arataka, conman, died because he listened to some telepathy kids’ stupid ghost story.
Or an AU where ???% did a whole lot worse when it first came out, and Mob ends up a criminal/vigilante. Also includes drawings and such.

“Thaw” (Chapter 3/3)
It was supposed to be a fun afternoon.
Neither of them could’ve expected it to end up like this.
Written for @mookybear12404‘s MP100 Sims!AU, which is wholesome in all kinds of ways but almost turned into a complete disaster with the latest installment. Stay away from precarious railings near the ocean, kids!
[Part 1] [Part 2]
He’s warm.
Shigeo cracks open his eyes slowly, and the room comes into view. Everything’s fuzzy, and his head feels like someone’d driven a nail into it with a hammer and left it there, but he’s awake, lying back on a couch, bundled in at least five blankets, with the warm crackle of a fireplace by his head behind him.
It doesn’t sink in at first. He doesn’t remember where he is or what led to him being here, but the splitting headache, coupled with the gentle crackle of the fire and the blankets wrapped around him, almost sends him right back into sleep.
Only, that’s precisely when everything sinks in.
He shoots upright, heart in his throat, trying to detangle himself from the blankets. Reigen, Reigen’s in here somewhere, he has to find him—
“Hey, hey! Hold it, son, hold it—”
Hands land on his shoulders and try shoving him back, but he fights against it, too scared to go unanswered.
“R—M-My dad, where…”
“Your dad’s fine, I promise,” the woman answers, eyes carrying a mixture of concern and annoyance. She runs a hand over her face and pinches the bridge of her nose, shaking her head. “Jeez, he did the same damn thing a second ago—nearly split his head open on the dresser, I swear—”
“W-Wait, h—” Shigeo feels lightheaded again, but for a different reason. “You mean he’s—he’s really okay? He’s okay?”
She smiles this time, releasing his shoulders and sitting by him on the couch. “Of course he is. He came to real quick once I dumped him in the bathwater. You’re lucky you found us when you did—”
“C-Can I see him?” he blurts, without thinking, and realizes a second later just how sharp his tone had been. “I—I’m sorry, I-I didn’t—”
“It’s alright, don’t worry, I ain’t mad,” she assures him with a soft smile. “Can’t imagine how scared you were. You’re a pretty tough kid, y’know It was really brave of you to stick it out like that. Wellp. Anyways.”
She pats him on the shoulder, then hops to her feet and waves a hand at him.
“C’mon, if you think you’re alright to walk, I can take you to him.” At this, she chuckles and shakes her head. “Or else he’ll probably tear apart the place looking for ya.”
Shigeo tosses the remaining blankets off of him and gets his feet underneath him. The dizzy spell doesn’t last very long this time, and even if it had, it’s not like it would stop him. The woman tilts her head in the direction of a hall across the room, and when she turns and starts that way, Shigeo makes to follow.
Then he notices Reigen’s jacket—the one he’d let Shigeo borrow—draped over the back of a chair in front of the fireplace.
After a slight hesitation, Shigeo retraces his steps and snatches it up. It’s completely dry now, dry and warm, and as soon as he has it tucked close to his chest, he spins on his heel and jogs after the woman again.
“Y’know, I never did get your name,” she says just as he catches up. “Your dad called you ‘Shige’, s’that right?”
“I-It’s Shigeo, actually,” he says shakily. He can’t tell if the use of the nickname was intentional or just a mishear on her part, but either way, the anticipation is making his head spin again. “What’s your name?”
“Name’s Akito.”
“Th-Thank you for saving us, Akito-san.”
“Don’t sweat it, son, don’t sweat it.” They come to a closed door, and she sets her hand on the knob and pauses, turning back to him. “Kaito went to get some tea started, I’ll have him bring some back to you two. Sound good?”
Shigeo nods, fiddling with the hem of his shirt, resisting the urge to bounce. Akito opens the door, and after a small, shy look to her and seeing her affirming nod, Shigeo shuffles inwards. The door clicks shut behind him.
It’s some kind of study, by the looks of it, with lots of bookshelves and even a grand piano in the corner. The windows have curtains over them, and there’s a furnace in here, which gives off not only heat, but a warm, orange-yellow light, too. It’s a nice looking room, but that isn’t really what Shigeo is concerned with right now.
There’s a couch by one of the bookshelves, about twice as big as the couch back at their apartment, and Reigen is asleep on it, covered in several blankets, wearing a long-sleeved shirt that Shigeo has never seen before.
Shigeo swallows hard, suddenly very aware of everything that’d happened, everything that led up to this point, everything he’d said and done that brought them here. He feels small. Scared, even. He clutches the jacket closer to his chest, but it does nothing to comfort him. If anything, it just makes him feel worse.
He shuffles over to the couch, hesitates longer than he should’ve, and pokes Reigen’s shoulder.
The touch was light, too light, but the response is immediate. Reigen’s eyes snap open, land on Shigeo, widen. Shigeo gulps and, before he knows what he’s doing;
“I-I’m sorry, th-this is my fault, I-I shouldn’t’ve asked about the sunset or the lighthouse or the—h-here, here’s your jacket back, I-I’m—”
Reigen yanks him into his arms. Shigeo yelps, not expecting it, and the jacket slips from his grip and lies in a heap on the floor, but Reigen doesn’t seem to care.
“Oh, god—” Reigen sounds breathless, like he’d just run a long time. Or is close to crying. “I’m glad you’re okay, Shigeo, I’m just so glad you’re okay—”
Shigeo takes a moment, contemplates this. “Y-You… you aren’t upset?”
“Of course I’m not, I couldn’t be, oh god, Shige, I’m so sorry, oh my god I’m sorry, I’m sorry...”
He’s… warm.
This probably should’ve been the first thing Shigeo noticed, but now, as Reigen goes on babbling, he has the chance to breathe. To feel Reigen’s arms around him, his heartbeat close to his ear.
He’s… really okay.
He really is okay.
The tears that have been steadily gathering ever since the moment Reigen fell finally reach a breaking point, and this confirmation is the defining crack in the bottle. Before Shigeo realizes what’s happening, he’s suffocating on his tears and wrapping his arms around Reigen as tightly as he can.
“I-I th-thought you—” he chokes out, voice a broken mess. “I-I—I d-didn’t know if you—I-I thought—”
Reigen drags in a long, shaky breath and holds him closer, tighter. “I know, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry—you must’ve been so scared, I—I’m sorry, Shige—I’m okay now, you’re okay, it’s okay—”
Reigen holds him tighter, and Shigeo cries until he can’t cry anymore.
Akito and Kaito are relieved to see the two of them back on their feet. Shigeo is unsteady and Arataka is even unsteadier, but now that the weight of impending doom and death has been raised from their shoulders, they find their steps light. And that’s not just because of how lightheaded they are.
“You’re free to stay another night or two if you want,” Akito offers the following afternoon, after they slept the night in the study at hers and Kaito’s home. “It might do you some good to recuperate s’more before hitting the road again.”
“I think we’re alright,” Arataka says, “but thank you. It isn’t a long drive from here, we should be alright. I really can’t thank you enough for everything.”
Akito waves her hand and shakes her head along with it. “Nah, you two are fine. I’m glad we were able to help, you’re both very lucky.”
Arataka thanks her again, though, and so does Shigeo, and neither one of them stop until they give their final farewells and head up the shore back towards the car. They make a quick stop by the lighthouse, just so Arataka can retrieve his phone (which they’d both completely forgotten about, when it’d skidded out of Arataka’s hold), but then they’re in the car and homeward bound.
The ride is quiet. Shigeo keeps his eyes glued to the road, but Arataka still catches him glancing his way every so often. Shigeo always looks away before he has the chance to ask what’s wrong, but he knows better than to push it after all that’d happened. It’s been a long past couple of days; he’ll definitely be calling into Shigeo’s school for a sick day tomorrow because god knows he isn’t going to be ready for that.
“Do you wanna stop by and get ramen or something on the way home?” Arataka asks once the silence has stretched beyond its welcome. “It doesn’t have to be ramen, just whatever you feel like eating.”
Shigeo is quiet for a while. He fiddles with the strap of his seatbelt.
“C… Can we just go home, m-maybe?”
That’s unusual, but Arataka gets it. He doesn’t feel much like a restaurant, either.
“Alright, sounds good to me,” he says. “Would you mind me stopping by somewhere and getting some takeout, though? I really don’t feel like cooking right now.”
(That, and cooking has never been his forte, and it just so happened that whenever he concocted something actually worth being happy with, the accursed cat either knocked it off the table or ate it himself.)
Shigeo pauses a moment before nodding, and Arataka takes a side-street down to the nearest restaurant—which just so happens to be a small ramen shop, though not one they’ve frequented often. Or, ever.
Arataka cuts the engine, stuffs the keys into the pocket of his jacket. Shigeo unbuckles himself, and once they’re both out of the car, they head inside. Shigeo’s hand slips into his and Arataka squeezes his fingers.
The shop isn’t exactly busy; there’s no line when they step through the door; but the tables are filled and there’s a waiting bench already. Arataka watches Shigeo’s posture, and when he sees no change, they head to the counter and Arataka orders for the both of them.
“Is the wait long?” he asks once he’s placed and payed, stuffing his wallet into his pocket.
The man behind the counter shakes his head. “No, no, we should have it ready for you two in maybeeee… ten minutes, tops, if you’re alright to wait a bit.”
“Alright, thank you. C’mon, Shige.”
There aren’t any benches, so Arataka leans against a wall out of the way, and Shigeo leans in close to his side. Shigeo has never been particularly against physical contact, but he’s never the one to initiate it, and the fact that he is now leaves a pang in Arataka’s heart that has no right being there. He brings an arm around Shigeo and tugs him closer, and Shigeo responds by wrapping his arms around his waist and holding tightly.
Arataka’s name is called for the order shortly thereafter, and they’re set for home, for real this time.
“A-Are you sure you’re okay with me eating on the couch?”
“Yep!” Arataka says, popping the cap off his cup of ramen and dumping it into a bowl. Their jackets, scarves and gloves are in a sorry heap by the door, and the two of them are in the kitchen, dishing up their takeout. Arataka snags a pair of chopsticks, takes his bowl, and starts into the living room. “C’mon, Shige.”
Shigeo sets aside his own empty takeout cup, and Arataka hears his careful footsteps behind him. “W-What happens if it gets spilled?”
“Then we’ll clean it up!”
“A-Are you s—”
“Absolutely positive, kiddo.”
Arataka is already out the couch, and he sets his bowl and chopsticks down on the coffee table while he gets situated. Shigeo appears through the doorway moments later, settling his own bowl down beside Arataka’s and taking a seat with him on the couch. Arataka reaches behind them, grabs the quilt draped over the back, and swings it around the two of them in one fluid motion.
“There,” Arataka says, offering him a smile. “Nice and warm, yeah?”
Shigeo blinks at him, and he nods, but he doesn’t smile. He does, however, tuck himself closer against Arataka’s side, and Arataka’s smile grows softer, more genuine, as he pulls the blanket further around his shoulders.
“You doing okay?”
He feels Shigeo nod against his side.
“It’s alright if you aren’t, kiddo.”
“No, I’m okay,” Shigeo says, very quietly. “I’m—I’m okay.”
Arataka isn’t convinced, but he doesn’t push it.
Dimple appears just as they start eating, which, of course he does, but it still scares the crap out of Arataka and he almost flails himself right into his bowl of ramen. Shigeo, unfazed, offers Dimple a noodle (that he does not deserve, and Arataka makes this very clear, though Shigeo’s response is to give him another noodle and he gives up immediately).
“R-Reigen?”
He’s poked.
“Reigen?”
He’s poked again. He feels it a little more this time.
“Reigen are you awake?”
He’s poked one more time.
“R… Reigen?”
He’s shaken this time, just barely enough to pull him from his slumber. Moonlight creeps through the blinds, creating stripes across his bed and his face. He blinks and rubs at his eyes for a moment or two, propping himself up on his elbow. Shigeo’s face, only half-illuminated by moonlight, swims into view.
“Sorry, I’m up, I’m up,” Arataka says, shaking his head to chase away the remaining drowsiness. “What’s the matter, buddy?”
“T-The…” Shigeo fiddles with the hem of his shirt, eyes on the floor. “Th-The ghosts are trying to steal my slippers again.”
“Are they, now?”
Shigeo nods, still fiddling, still rocking from his heels to his toes. Arataka is much more awake than before, and it isn’t long before he’s smiling gently and scooting over.
“C’mon, kiddo.”
Shigeo doesn’t wait a second longer. He practically leaps into the bed, diving under the covers like a kid afraid of the dark, curling close to Arataka’s side.
“Oh my god, you're freezing,” he gasps, resisting the instinct to pull away. “What, were you standing out in the hall this whole time?”
Shigeo’s voice is small. “M-Maybe.”
That wasn't the answer he was expecting. He'd meant it as a joke. With a sigh, he pats the blankets around them both, then brings his arms around Shigeo and pulls him closer. Shigeo doesn’t object.
“... Hey, Shigeo…”
“Mm…?”
“You don’t have to make up stories to justify staying with me, you know. You can come to me for anything at all, no matter how silly or stupid you may think it is.”
Shigeo turns his face against his chest and keeps it buried there. “B-But it is silly.”
“It isn’t silly to me, I promise.”
Shigeo doesn’t say anything for a while, and Arataka draws a long breath and lets it out slowly.
“I’m not gonna make you tell me, Shige. It’s okay. And it’s also okay to wanna stay with me. You don’t need to find some kind of explanation. I don’t need one.”
“Are… r-really?”
“Yeah, I promise. You can tell me anything you wanna tell me, no matter how silly or serious it is, but more than anything else, I wanna be here for you whenever you need me. You don’t have to explain yourself.”
Admittedly, he already knows why Shigeo wanted to stay with him tonight. And he gets the feeling that Shigeo knows he knows. But regardless, it doesn’t change the weight of his words, and it doesn’t change Shigeo’s nod.
“Th-Thank you.”
Arataka smiles and rests his chin atop Shigeo’s head, shutting his eyes. “You’re welcome. Don’t be afraid to wake me up if you need something.”
Shigeo nods again, and Arataka closes his eyes. A silence befalls them, broken only by their breathing, and Arataka is this close to falling asleep when there’s this horrible, grating sound by the foot of the bed.
It really is the worst thing he’s ever heard.
And he’s heard it before.
“Aww,” Shigeo says, like it’s actually cute, “Dimple feels left out.”
“Good.”
“Reigen that’s mean.”
“He literally pees in the bed, that’s mean, too.”
“He’s trying his best.”
“Okay, but—”
There’s that godforsaken meow again. This time, Arataka heaves a long, heavy sigh and runs a hand over his face.
“Okay, okay fine, fine, he can sleep with us, but just this on—”
Shigeo squeezes him around the waist, which both cuts off his words and his airway for a moment, but then he lets go and pats the bed instead. “C’mon, Dimple, you can come up here!” A weight dips the bed and Arataka sighs again, heavier this time.
It doesn’t take long for Dimple to get settled down at the foot of the bed, and once a calm has befallen the room once more, Arataka lets himself relax. If it makes Shigeo happy, well. He really can’t mind too much.
“... Hey, um… Reigen?”
“Yeah?”
“Would you, um… would you mind if I called you dad?”
Ah.
Ah.
… ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh gOD—
He pushes back the almost irresistible urge to crush Shigeo in a bearhug and instead settles for just, pulling him closer. His heart is soaring. “Of course you can, Shige, of course you can,” Arataka says, unable to keep the giddiness from his tone. “Just… whatever you want to call me.”
“Okay. Thank you.” Shigeo would seem nonchalant, if Arataka hadn’t known him better. If Arataka hadn’t known him well enough to catch every slight subtlety in his tone, the small but very real joy behind it. “Th… Thank you. Goodnight.”
“‘Night, Shige.”
“I… love you, Reig—Dad.”
Oh his heart is skyborne he may as well be in the stratosphere—
He can’t help the giddy laugh, the goofy smile, the kiss he presses against Shigeo’s forehead, and he murmurs, “I love you too, kiddo.”
Shigeo hugs him even tighter and Arataka returns the gesture wholeheartedly.
He doesn’t sleep until he’s heard Shigeo’s breathing even out and felt his shoulders relax. Only then, when he’s sure Shigeo is okay, does he allow sleep to overcome him, too.

fe3h blogging 1
spoilers
Sorry blue lions. It was between eagles and deer for me.
ch3: Well OK. The church is now using me as their personal political assassin are they?
Fe3h fav characters so far: Tomas: knowledge grandpa! And one of the few I trust  Gatekeeper: my pure boy. On the topic of trust. You know who I don't trust? Claude. He always angling for something. Always digging for secrets never revealing his own
I didn't think I'd like Raphael so much but I do. He's so good natured. He always wants to help and even when the other kids are mean to him. His only response is more kindness. Like oh youre kinda grumpy right now how about a snack. Like a human shaped golden retriever. Full of love and very food motivated. As much as he's a complete musclehead, his emotional/social intelligence is pretty high. He just wants to make friends. Let Raphhael have friends!
Guess who chose golden deerI was considering black eagle. But everyone did black eagle. I can go on youtube later. I haven't gotten it but on youtube is lorenz and sylvain's c and b supports and they are hilarious
I found japanese audio of fe3h and it just really hit me that Sylvain belongs in an otome game. I mean his character design (hair color, hair style etc.) and the way he acts is already... eh. But then his japanese voice actor... and its giving me this mental dissonance. Especially aince I've seen the character artist doing utapri, samflam, and other stuff.
weeho spoiled myself on supports: Everyday I grow less and less convinced of Sylvain's heterosexuality. Does he even like women?? He's just emotionally manipulating them as a self destructive coping mechanism because he has self worth issues.  So he presents himself as the superficial stuff like social status and then gets insecure and accuses them of only dating him for status. He's setting himself up for failure. And each tine reinforces his belief that he is nothing but his crest and family. Look at this disaster boy
knowledge grandpa no! I trusted you and I trust so few people. I wonder if it was real Tomas who first joined but an impostor who rejoined a year ago
List of potential immortals: Jeralt, Rhea, Flayn. There are multiple mentions of Jeralt not seeming to age, he looked the same over 30 years ago. Rhea looks suspiciously like Saint Seiros and was archbishop 20 years ago. Flayn act both young and old and won’t give me her age. That said now that its revealed in the paraloge that Seteth is her dad, maybe not secretly an immortal so much as magical bloodline. Also Seiros, Rhea, Sothis, and Flayn are all related somehow. The green hair doesn’t help. And Byleth is somehow involved. I thought byleth might be part of the immortal gang but mom’s grave stone said she died at age 20 so byleth was born at the church like 20-21 years ago
support thoughts: Are all of huberts c supports just him insulting people?? each and every day I fall more in love with Dorothea. her support with Ferdinand where she straight up says she hates him, the voice acting on that! Lorenz and Ferdinand was hilarious. This is why you get bullied. Lorenz and Sylvain was also funny. Not a big fan of Bernadetta.
Ok so update on the green haired tinfoil hatting: Flayn related to the saint cetholynn????? somehow and definitely real old.
end of part 1
Thinking back the crests and church(seiros/saints) are what turn people into demonic beasts. there are beasts with crest stones in their heads, in Remire villiage they tried to turn people using Flayn’s blood, and later succeeded. Flame emperor is using the church’s abilities against it. Also Rhea’s been seeking to replicate... something Seiros maybe?? (or more someone.. someone who was precious to her) by ripping the hearts out of babies and putting in a special one??? Rhea seem desperate, but I’m not sure what (or whom) she is desperate for. turning Byleth into Seiros??? There is a ... tension is her, like she is on the edge of snapping. And what was she trying to achieve there in the tomb before she was interrupted. For being “holy” relics, they sure are ominous looking. and they turn people into monsters. The whole church is sketch honestly. The propaganda and censorship campaigns. The crushing of any that are a threat under the language of sin and justice.
So Edelgard went full supervillian. Wow. And Rhea was the immaculate one huh (still don’t know what that means), here I was theory crafting that she was a reincarnated Seiros or something. Edelgard is like a worse Alm, she wants to rid humanity of dragons ruling over them and install a meritocracy. Her methods though are !!!!! yikes. I mean any reign that starts with “kill all that resist” can’t lead to anything good. Also out of 10 siblings only 1 didn’t die of illness or go mad. hmmmn where have I heard that before.
That said I do agree with her goal. I love it when I can take down a religious institution in a videogame.
At Garreg Mach her whole plan in to brute force it. Like if we just keep throwing enough lives at it we are bound to win. Admittedly I know nothing of military strategy, but that doesn’t sound like the best plan.
Interesting the differences between routes. In Edelgard’s church allied with feargus, while in Claude’s the Church lost significant power and Edelgard successfully incited a coup, but why did the Empire give up Garreg Mach as a strategic position?
My baby deer are all grown up. And yup another mark in the Flayn is some immortal being, her sprite didn’t change at all. Totally in favor of stealing everyone from the other houses.
Who wore it better Part 1 or 2
Edelgard: 2. I mean p1 Edelgard was already best dressed but p2 takes it to a new level
Dimitri: 2. I mean p1′s hair is so goofy looking I just have to choose the edgelord
Claude: both. Claude looks fine so matter the time
Hubert: 2. He really did grow into the goth look
Petra: 1. Both are good but I love the huge braid
Lindhart: 1. p2 isn’t bad but I like the two layers look
Dorothea: 2. but both are good
Caspar: 2. Something about p1 always bothered me
Ferdinand: 2. His character model looks better than his sprite, and his hair is so luscious and flowing!
Bernadetta: 2. its just a mess is p1, v cute in p2
Dudue: 2. what is even going on in p1. where as p2 is like... elegant
Sylvain: 1. as much as I teased about him belonging in an otome game, his p2 haircut is just ugly
Ingrid: 1. mmmm its fluffy?
Felix: 1. What is his p2 hair even doing??? it makes me confused
Mercedes: 1. Fluffy.
Annette: 2. never was a fan of the hair loopies
Ashe: both. p1 is cute but p2 is beautiful. both are sooo good
Hilda: 2. p1 pigtails kinda boring
Raphael: 1. though p2 its a shaggy dog
Leonie: 1. another fluffy head, p2′s low pony tail does not give a flattering shape
Ignatz: 2. a bowl cut is an improvment from whatever p1 is
Lysithea: 2. not sue about the veil but it is more intersting than p1
Marianne: 1. I always did prefer thick bangs
Lorenz: 2. its definitely p2. in p1 he looks like such a clown
Cyril: 2. Honestly he kept the baby face so there’s not much difference.
Claude sees that under Rhea the church enforced a doctrine that locked in the status quo of nobles and crests and he wants to chage the church’s influence to promote tolerance, diversity, and open mindedness. but, hey. Hey. What if we got rid of the church all together.
Why can’t I recruit the old general... hey. Hey!
Aww Claude introduced me to his second mom and dad
So the more people you can recruit the less painful things are. I’m a little disappointed I didn’t get to kill Dimitri.
In terms of characters, Ferdinand has surprisingly grown on me. As for Caspar I shocks me occasionally how uncaring he is about killing people. He reminds me of a smt chaos hero with the whole might equals right thing. As long as he decides they are evil its ok to kill them. Now all he needs to do is get possessed by a demon. Eating away at him from the inside out. Ashe as always continues to be an absolute angel. I need somewhere to gush about how cool Claude looks in him final class promotion. So I rather like the group of childhood friends dimitri, felix, sylvain, ingrid. And it always trips me uo to remember that sylvain is like 2 years older than the rest because he really doesn't act like it. I'm getting that they are all traumatized from the death of felix's brother. A lot of the characters have had pretty bad childhoods.I was surprised to find out that Lysithea was tortured as a child like ok wow. I need to spend more time with you. Does Dimitri have PTSD? Golden Deer has had quite a few goofy hijinks. Marianne's character growth really has been a a thing of beauty, I’m so proud of her. But I love my oddball bunch of misfits. How did Dedue not get found out??? He’s very noticeable. and Claude, you’re starting to sound like Edelgard. I love Edelgard’s final promotion. Looks so cool. Like a mix or her Lord and Flame Emperor clothes. I wince every time some mentions the free market or the joys of capitalism. I guess adrestia is imperialism, faergus is religion, and leister is capitalism. I didn’t care about Dimriti’s death, but Edelgard’s got me.
damn ok so dubstep cyberpunk dungeon and Rhea took like 15 missile strikes. wow this really is very smt. maybe persona 2. And fighting zombie Nemesis and the 10 was excellent (Nemesis is still a stupid name). I love it when we fight literal embodiments of the past
its hilarious that in Shamir and Claude's paired ending,  he ends up ditching 3 whole times. He turns the opportunity to lead the unified fodland down, then he ditches house reigen, and then he abdicated the throne! I love it! That's so him. And they both wanted to travel the world.  Technically Claude is also a descendant of Loog so he also gave up claim to the Faerghus throne too. I swear. This dude. This dude...  Next its going to be revealed that secretly Claudr is Edelgard's cousin. Or one of her "dead" sibling. Lysithea tell us that blood experiment to force crests leads to physical and mental damage. Does this have anything to do with what happened to Edelgard’s siblings? As far as I can tell every ending has Fodland under a single party state. Crimson flower, azure moon, and verdant wind all end in monarchies, and silver snow a theocracy.
Hold up. Flayn said that Cethaleann never had any children as rational as to why she's not a descendant. But how did Lindhart get the crest then?? And I might be mixing up the 10 and the saints, but then I thought  the crests were designed as tools of war by those who slither in the dark. Thats how the 10 got them, to use as weapons against Sothis. But that then brings the question of why Rhea edited history in favor of them.  This is why the holy relics looked so ominous and creepy. The animations are eeeeeeeeuuuuuugggh. My initial though was that the church is secretly evil and this is foreshadowing. I mean rhea's kinda... viscous? Ruthless? Filled with barely contained hatred? I was thinking maybe she's secretly the evil dragon of the game the way Mila kinda was.
But then you dont need consent to make a crest. Only blood. Blood could have been stolen from cihol and cethaleann to make their crests. Alternately they could have chosen to give crests to specific people.  The 2 sources of crests is also why there’s multiple weapons for some crests. The crest weapons made by the agartans all have a similar aesthetic, but not all the crest weapons have that aesthetic some look different and probably weren’t made by them. As for why Rhea rewrote the 10 into heroes. It might have been to stop people from questioning the crests and relics and seeking to replicate them. By framing it as sothis's doing, with the power of the church she can control crests, how people view them, and keep a closer eye on the descendants. Its its a gift by the goddess, of course we cant try to replicate them.
Let’s see what Claude achieved before he dipped. anti-discrimination laws (race, religion), and increased foreign relations. Potentially equal treatment under the law.
Edelgard really likes brute forcing solutions
The whole opera thing with Dorothea and Manuela stinks of the idol industry where an idol peaks at like 18. Real opera singers have much longer careers.
Golden Deer is so JRPG in the best way. There’s an evil cult of technologically advanced subterranean people, a zombie army, the power of friendship.
It already caught my attention when  missiles appeared and the evil cult's dungeon belonged is a scifi movie like ghost in the shell and I was thinking to myself "hmmm... this all sounds very smt of you" or maybe Persona 2. I mean with names like Shambala and the whole general aesthetic of that dungeon ... yeah. But then someone points out the UN’s symbol is all over the Agarthan stuff. And wow we really are in an smt timeline aren't we. and I remember seeing the missiles thinking hmmm that looks vaguely familiar. Its the UN symbol. Which means in alternate future Earth Sothis comes, we wage a war against the gods and and then Rhea destroys modern civilization along with the planet. that really does sound like the plot of an SMT game. I did wonder at the inclusion of electronica and dubstep into the soundtrack.
THC (Thinking Hard about Claude). Claude let's everyone know he's up to something, and his self portrayal as a schemer is both deliberate and truthful. He's using it part as social armor and part as an excuse to probe. Claude holds genuine cuiosity, wonder, and passion for the world. He is not always scheming so much as he is one of those people who's brain never turn off. He just wants to explore the world, meet different cultures, and discover all the secrets. Given the environment he grew up in, his natural inclinations angled him to thinking in terms of how to best leverage someone or how to sneak around.
Alright so here’s the lore as I know it. Sothis=Goddess came from another world to Fodlan. Through her blood made the goddess’ children (Nabateans) who are the original magical beasts and can talk, and they resided at Zanado. Rhea=Seiros=The Immaculate One, and the 4 Saints (Cihol=Seteth, Cethaleann=Flayn, Indech=The Indomitable, Macuil=The Wind Caller) are Nabateans. Sothis gave knowledge/interacted with the native humans of Fodlan (Agarthans). Eventually the Agarthans waged war against Sothis killing her and many Nabateans. The Agarthans used their bones to make weapons, their hearts to make crest stones, and their blood to make crests. The above is why magical beasts and demonic beasts are connected to crest stones. The crest stones as the hearts of Nabateans transform humans into a distorted version of their magical beast forms. The Sword of the Creator was made from materials taken from Sothis’ body. Using these weapons the humans attacked Zanado killing everyone except Seiros and the 4 Saints. The 10 Heroes Relics were similarly made from Nabatean bodies. Seiros, already obsessed with Sothis thought only of vengeance and bringing back Sothis. She raised an army, killed Nemesis, and drove the Agarthans underground to become Those who Slither in the Dark. Seiros then took control of the continent under the guise of The Church of Seiros. Seiros and the 4 Saints gave their blood to favored individuals granting them the power of their personal crest as well as potentially extending their lifespan/granting extended youth. This is why the 10 Heroes Relics have a visual aesthetic distinct from that of the weapons of the 4 Saints. The 10 Heroes Relics were made by the Agarthans but the other crest weapons like the other Gloucester crest weapon the Axe of Ukonvasara and the Saint’s weapons were not mad by them. The Church the acted as a tool for Seiros/Rhea to control the continent and its course. She then rewrote that part of history. The goddess was just sleeping, crests were a blessings of the goddess, etc.
I am unsure as to why she did so, but I believe it served the 2 purposes. First it allowed Rhea to control the narrative and how people thought about the matter. Second it erases the existence of a rebellion against the Goddess. From the Church, Rhea could control the flow of information, censoring anything that threatened her power. Using the language of religion she could also justify using military force to eliminate her political opponents.
