the thirteenth doctor’s regeneration does not get the credit it deserves. despite knowing that she’s losing herself, she doesn’t run from it like ten or twelve. she doesn’t hide the terrifying truth of what will happen and how exactly she might change from the companion she loves like nine or eleven. she doesn’t remain in the TARDIS, her true home and safe haven, where everything is familiar, like all the rest choose to do, despite knowing their regeneration energy will likely damage their beloved ship.

instead, she holds off just long enough to have ice cream with the woman she loves. to give her companion a goodbye, a real goodbye, something none of the doctors before her had managed to do for any of the others that came before. she finds a cliff with a stunning yet unfamiliar sunset, and faces the end of her story — her new beginning, the unknown — with a quip and smile.

in the end, I think she was truly the bravest of them all.

i think the most devastating bit about doomsday is that ten had never had to live without rose before.

ten was born in front of rose. he existed as a physical manifestation of nine's love for her: the embodiment of all the wounds she had tended to without knowing. rose could not save the doctor from hating himself, but she let him love again. she laughed and listened to music and got chips with him, and "run for your life" became "thank you. i need you. please stay with me." to live without her, to live with the knowledge that he could never ever see her again would have been utterly SHATTERING.

Do you guys subscribe to the theory that (at least, starting in NuWho) the Doctor can, somewhat, subconsciously control his regenerations?

Like, of course, 8 wanted to be a warrior, so he became the War Doctor (I know that he drank a potion for that, but that might’ve just been lemonade according to the Target Novelization).

War wanted to be the hero, to earn the title, the Doctor, again, so he became 9.

9 wanted to be someone who was the perfect partner to Rose (human), so he became 10.

10, in his vanity, wanted his final regeneration to be young, so he became 11.

11, after all the heartache, wanted to be more distant (and also what they said in series 8), so he became 12.

12 wanted a kind, fresh start, so he became 13.

13 wanted to open up to someone, so she became 14.

14 wanted time to heal, so he split off 15.

This is not an original theory, and I'm not even saying that I buy into it fully it, but it's interesting. It would be interesting if the Doctor had a tiny bit of control over their regeneration (Romana did, somehow) and most of the time his wants either backfire or only half work.

No but can you imagine being a Doctor Who fan in the 60's and watching that first regeneration with no knowledge of NuWho or all the other doctors.

You watch this eccentric yet well-mannered old man transform into another, and you're not quite sure what that means yet. But surely, he's just replacing the lead and besides that not a whole lot is going to change, right?

SIKE you have now been introduced to

Who after regenerating, goes non-verbal for a while and only replies with toots of his recorder/flute, which he's suddenly really interested in.

He also never explains his thoughts, silently wanders off, gets fixated on doing tongue twisters right after finding some daleks, becomes obsessed with hats and in episode 2, threatens someone with a gun while in drag and robs the duke's arsonal after a nap.

It's the funniest most Intense vibe shift I've ever seen, but clearly people loved it with how the show's still going strong to this day 😭😭😭

A silky shark photographed with a massive tear in its dorsal fin has reappeared with an astonishing makeover nearly a year later. The shark was initially spotted off the coast of Florida by an underwater photographer and diver in July of 2022. A huge chunk was missing from its dorsal fin, equalling about 20 percent of the whole appendage. The position of the tear was just where the creature had been previously tagged by scientists.
