#reclaimed slurs

Hi! I’m in my early 20’s and a baby gay and i was wondering if you could help me understand the nuances of a particular issue (or point me towards recourses to find some answers). I’ve heard that as an afab enby i shouldn’t be using the f slur because historically it has been used to attack/demean gay men, but i’ve also seen (mostly on tumblr) a push by the queer community to reclaim the word by any queer identity. I want to be inclusive and intersectional and not insult people to the best of my ability so my question is: can i participate in the reclamation of the f slur or should i leave this word to queer men? (I’m also not clear on wether it’s just cis men, includes trans men/amab folks, etc). You don’t have to answer but thanks for your time regardless!
You can do whatever you want forever.
Seriously, though - whoever is telling you that you can't reclaim a particular slur because that doesn't get used against people like you should come review my history sometime. I've had faggot yelled at me (often out of moving cars or in connection with physical abuse) more times than I can count. They need to talk to Hannah Gadsby, who talks in Nanette about a man who pushed her, thinking she was a faggot and then found out she was a woman, realized she was a "lady faggot" and thus outside his definition of woman and able to be beaten up... so he did.
That kind of "I have decided that people like you haven't been hurt by this so you can't touch this word" cop nonsense is genuinely harmful. We need to bring back the 90s energy of "it takes all of us to take the sting out of a word" where gay men showed up to lesbian marches with "fags for dykes" signs.
This infighting over terms is fucking cop garbage meant to divide us. It's bullshit. If you find strength in calling yourself a fag, a dykefag, a fagdyke, a ladyfag, a girl homo, a lesbo, whatever the fuck, it doesn't fucking matter.
This "no one uses that against people like you" bullshit is just that. Ignore it freely, because it's utter nonsense on many many levels.

Well, I wanted to have a comic finished for Trans Day of Visibility, but I’ve been working nonstop for 27 straight hours and it’s just not gonna happen before midnight. So instead, I’ll post the first three pages as a peek.
Once I’m able to finish the rest of the ten pages (I have about three and a half pages left to ink, type, and tone), I’ll post the whole thing! It’s a discussion of the intersection of DID and transness. The peek is just the introduction to it.
View at full size —screen tones can look wonky when zoomed out too far.
Happy Trans Day of Visibility!
final version is complete!

radical inclusivity is integral to the lgbtq+ community.
we are all in the same boat of otherness in the eyes of cishetnormative society, it does no good to infight over labels deemed contradictory or embarrassing.
it hurts no one if a man identifies as a lesbian or if someone uses neopronouns. it does not ‘make us look bad,’ it does not ‘bring down the movement.’ it is unabashed queerness.
those who wish harm upon the lgbtq+ community wish harm upon ALL of us. there are no exceptions for those who bootlick or attempt to conform.
a multisexual spectrum gay looks the same as a monosexual gay to those who want gays dead.
peace to old and new queer folk, peace to faggots, dykes, and transsexuals, peace to gays, lesbians, and transgender persons, peace to those i don’t understand and those i do, peace to the lgbtq+ community for ever and ever.

The more I see lesbians who are anywhere under the trans umbrella the happier I am.
Since reading Stone Butch Blues at the start of this year,
Since following a bunch of they/them, he/him, she/they/he, nonbinary, trans, butch lesbians on here,
And watching a few interviews by Lynn Breedlove of Tribe 8,
I just feel like home, people like me exist, and people like me have existed for a while! I don't have to debate my identity with anyone, I just *am* some queer, gender-weird butch dyke 🌈
And if you don't like it: goodbye, don't bother me.

Pro tip: if you don't want trans people reclaiming the slurs you literally made up, or stole from fucking 4channers to misgender and oppress them, simply do not fucking call people brand new slurs invented specifically to denigrate them! It's literally not difficult! You don't get to fucking call people slurs invented just for them and then get mad when they reclaim them!
When will truscum and TIRFs learn to stop being bigots.
Tumblr media
[ID: A Three panel MS Paint comic, titled, "Reclaiming slurs: 'theyfab'", dated "September 9th 2023". Panel 1 shows a group of three grey figures grinning with evil eyebrows, labled, "bigoted trans people and their transmisic cis friends". They are all shouting together: "Hahaha!! Theyfab!!! You're a pathetic theyfab!!! Just a pathetic woman pretending to be trans for attention!! Theyfab!!! Theyfab!! You think you're oppressed for having a p***y!!! Theyfab!!!" The person they are pointing and laughing at has sad eyebrows and a small frown, and is labeled, "a trans man or nonbinary person who wants equal rights, probably doesn't even use they/them pronouns". The second panel shows the victim throwing their hands into the air, shouting back, "Okay, yeah, I'm a theyfab, and I'm proud to be trans! You got a fucking problem with that?" while the crows of bigots stares in silence. The third panel shows the bigots now colored red, throwing their arms into the air and screaming in all caps: "You disgusting transmisogynist special snowflake!! You can't reclaim the slur we made up to call you!!!!! We're the only ones allowed to call you slurs!!! Stop reclaiming the slurs we call you you fucking faker!!!! You're supposed to cry about it not reclam the slur we literally invented for you!!!! Special snowflake!!! Transmisogynist!! Why aren't you crying?!? Stop being proud of being trans!!!!! You make the real trans people look bad!!!!" The victim mutters, with one hand on their hip and eyebrow raised, "Oh, you're not even being subtle anymore, are you?" Large text at the bottom of the comic reads: "Pro tip if you want to have morals: If you don't want trans people reclaiming slurs used against them, simply do not invent brand new fucking transmisic, exorsexist slurs. It's literally not difficult." End ID.]
Another pro tip: if the people who call you the slur get enraged by you reclaiming it, that means reclaiming it is working. Keep up the good fucking work.

Since it’s pride month is it free-for-fags™ to ride the train?
I mean it obviously is, but remember it is also free to dykes

HP Slurs
Snape is half blooded, everyone in the hp fandom should know that by now. So him calling Lily a mudblood isn't a big deal, right? I'm saying this as a black person that doesn't say the n-word because it's more of an American thing (I'm British), but grew up watching a lot of black centred forms of media. With all this consumerism I've come to recognise that anyone who is black can say the word.
"Mudblood" refers to a wizard or witch that comes from a muggle background, it not only refers to muggleborns but also halfbloods. In terms of the blood dynamic I'm using points of history, like how black people were looked down upon but if they were half black and/or lighter skinned then they were sometimes given better treatment. I think someone can explain this better than I can, but I think you guys understand where I'm getting at.
So Snape saying “I don't need help from filthy little Mudbloods like her!” is like saying "I don't need help from bit** a** nig*as". I'm censoring because I don't want to be banned or something.
No one has to agree, it's just something I can't help thinking about and I'm wondering about everyone else's views on this.
Also, the mudblood slur doesn't have the same significance as the n-word. Muggleborns taking the mudblood slur would've been a power move, but no. They just can't stand that word.
I headcanon that American muggleborns (Ilvermorny students) and halfbloods took notes from the black community and use the word for each other. Anyone with no lick of muggle in them gets the sh** beat out of them. Harry Potter and the halfblood Crip.
Thank You for listening to my Ted Talk.

Misplaced albeit well-meaning language policing will never cease to be funny to me. Love when someone goes "you can't say that word" and I'm like brother I am the definition.
