HOW DO REBLOGS WORK? 🤔
this is tea for new tumblr users about how REBLOGS work. they're different from retweets in some important ways.
RETWEETS

retweets are an extension of the original tweet that is to say:
they only exist as long as the original tweet exists
you can only retweet a single tweet once
they take the place of your own tweet, meaning they can clog up your feed
they can sometimes SPAM the original tweeter with notifications and thus be a bit annoying
REBLOGS

reblogs are their own post separate from the original:
they are a COPY of the original post, now posted on your own blog
you can reblog the same post, including your own post, infinitely
they will live on even if the original post is DELETED
they are considered your own post and therefore do not clog up your feed
the original poster has control over whether they continue to get notifications for them
reblogs are an essential part of tumblr culture
you share things you like with your audience and give each other a boost by reblogging. it's normal and expected to reblog a ton on tumblr.
this is why tumblrinas are annoyed that new people quote "don't reblog". reblogging is considered good tumblr etiquette.
this structure devalues likes
because reblogging is considered normal (and is also considered the way to share posts with your own followers), likes have less value on tumblr.
your post becoming super popular can therefore be hell for you
your post will become a mummified version of itself, getting reblogs, likes and shares forever. if this happens and your notes are making you want to die simply delete your original post. your content will live on without you, in infinite bliss.
a note on tags
when you reblog, the tags from the original post don't stick with it unless you check a box that says "keep original tags":
sometimes keeping the original tags is ok
other times, the original tags will include things like "my art", or other personal tags used on the original posters blog to denote their own posts. reblogging with these tags can be confusing for your followers and theirs
generally, i would recommend adding your own tags or simply omitting them. reblogs are for sharing, so unless you think there's a tag that hasn't seen the post for some reason, the original tag should do the job of sharing it.
the original post will continue to collect notes (unless it is deleted, at which point each reblog will individually collect notes), which means by reblogging you not only make your own post sharing the content, but the original also gets a boost.

you can comment on reblogs (similar to quote tweets)
on twitter, you can "quote retweet" a post to add context or more information. on tumblr, you reblog the post and add some text of your own. tumblr lets you choose if this text goes on the top or the bottom of the reblogged post.
this means that reblog chains are common (where a bunch of people add something in each reblog and you get a long chain of edits).
this means that sometimes you will see multiple reblogs at different stages of the chain on your dash. people will comment and add context, text IDs for visually impaired or deaf folks, opinions, anything you can think of. it's cool!

you can also comment in the tags
want to comment on a reblogged post without the intensity of adding text? say something in the tags!
on tumblr you can write tags as long as you want, with spaces. it's NOT GOOD to add unrelated tags when they're meant for sorting and organizing (i.e. don't add #art if it's not art), but you CAN write stupid long tags that no one would search for to leave a little note for your followers or the original poster.

Ok, so let me explain why rebloging posts like these do little to nothing to assure Jews that they’ll be safe around you.
Goyim reblogging this stuff don’t typically listen to Jews (which is apparent because we’ve said stuff like this doesn’t actually do anything to help us many times) about their experiences with antisemitism or listen when Jews try to educate them on things like antisemitic dog whistles or blood libel. Most of them are way more enthusiastic about punching Nazis than they are about showing any compassion to Jews. I’d venture to guess the majority of Jewish people know that often the goyim who reblog this stuff are just out for blood and don’t give a damn about us, because we’ve seen this many times. Not to mention that the desire for a violent revolution that some leftists seem to have has led to Jewish people facing a lot of antisemitism (at their hands). I would bet that some of the people reblogging this act similar to Nazis themselves. I know at the very least the goyim rebloging this don’t listen to Jews because we’ve said many times that this sort of thing doesn’t really do anything to help us, and we’d much rather goyim call out and learn about antisemitism. Overall, it’s just very performative activism, and it’s pretty obvious that the goyim reblogging this are just doing it to try and make themselves look better, and not for the sake of Jews.

ok, so you've been told to reblog, and that your tumblr blog shouldn't be only your own stuff... but like...
what goes on there then?
on tumblr, you curate a vibe. folks looking at your blog should see posts that match you, your style, and your energy.
as a streamer, posts on your blog should probably match the energy in your streams and your ""b r a n d"" (i know we all threw up but its fact).
look at this blog. perfectly curated to have excellent bug content - [@onenicebugperday]
ok cool but how do i do that? 🤔
first, take your original content and post it where makes sense. you can schedule posts and/or put things in your queue to go up whenever.
second, find some extra stuff to bring to your tumblr page that matches. good memes you have permission to share, maybe some gifs, maybe a quote or two.
lasty, look in tags that contain stuff that makes sense - are you a frog vtuber that likes cake? reblog frogs and cake. do you play minecraft? search for pretty minecraft screenshots. are you a dank memer who makes nasty jokes? reblog cursed stuff.
people following your blog should be served stuff that matches the reason they followed you a few times a day.

like, probably not. BUT if you're worried just tag all your self reblogs with something like "#self reblog" or "#posting again". people can filter out a specific tag, so they don't have to see it!
ok but will it always be alright to share/reblog other people's art and stuff?
reblogs do a great job of crediting the original poster. if an artist posts stuff here they want you to reblog it. just make sure that if the blog you get stuff from isn't the original artist or poster, that they have credit and permission listed in the post (you're smart, just be careful).
very occasionally stuff will be specifically marked with a request not to reblog (mostly really personal stuff). you'll find these warnings in the tags, usually.
last question, i swear - what if i want to save/share/reblog/post stuff that doesn't match my ~vibe~?
make a sideblog! thats what sideblogs are for - they're for collecting a different vibe then your main blog and keeping your nasty meme mommy content from getting contaminated with all your visual asmr food reblogs.
you can have as many sideblogs as you want, and you can just let them breathe without worrying about how popular they get or whatever. and hey, no reason you can't self reblog sideblog content to let your followers know they can visit another blog for different stuff (including SPICY stuff uwu).

Oof.
So, I was thinking about Epsilon and Caboose and how Epsilon is so used to being abandoned that I just realized.
Caboose never left. He stays with him.
He stays with this supposed memory of his dead best friend, who, for all we know, is experiencing the worst time of his short life inside the unit, reliving memories of lives that aren't even his, and then that memory just hears someone talking to him.
Telling all these stories, treating him like another person, and always coming back.
And I can't help but feel that it was a grounding point for him, to be distracted by these stories instead of the painful memories that he'd soon repress until there was no other way than to remember.
Or I'm projecting.
Anyway, Caboose is awesome, Epsilon is my blorbo, and I am reaching hard to excuse my personal headcanons.
