Come on, now. Its bedtime.
Think happy thoughts and you'll have sweet dreams. Or why not play the alphabet game? Think of someone or something relevant to 911 for ever letter of the alphabet!
Good night!
I believe I received it after I decided to put off my phone. Thank you 😊💜 and I would definitely use those methods nex time. Sometimes I just can't shut my brain enough to sleep

Eddie/Buck x reader - look after you
Tumblr media
Hi! I have written 2 platonic reader 911 fics because I couldn't find any so I was so excited when I found your blog and your writing! Please could I request a platonic reader x Eddie / Buck with hurt reader and caretaking? Your writing is wonderful ✨️- @rebelangelwings 💜
Sitting on your couch, you rested your arm across your stomach as you gazed at the TV in boredom, hardly paying attention.
Your phone was somewhere across the room, you had no idea where and you didn’t feel like getting up to get it.
Or the door when someone knocked on it.
You decided to ignore it, but when you heard the sound of your door opening and being closed, you looked up to the hallway.
You saw Eddie come through first and he stuffed his hands into his pockets as he looked at you laid on the couch.
“This is breaking and entering Diaz.”
“It’s not if you give someone an extra key.”
You glanced to the doorway again where Buck was grinning, dangling your spare key in his hands.
“We’re just worried about you. That’s all.” Eddie said.
“Well I’m fine.”
Buck hummed walking into the room and pointing to where you were holding your side.
He reached over and you moved your hand, letting him lift your shirt to see the massive bruise along your skin.
“That doesn’t look fine.” He said.
“It’s healing.”
“And that’s why we’re here, so move your feet.”
You looked at Eddie and he shrugged, carefully lifting your feet, he sat down and rested your feet in his lap.
Buck walked to your fridge and came back with a few drinks for you all and sat in the arm chair.
“So, have you slept yet?” Buck asked.
“Yeah.”
“He means in your bed, upstairs.” Eddie said.
You sighed, shaking your head.
“Can’t get up them.”
“Well now you’ve got two strong firemen to help you up.” Buck grinned.
“And I’m not tired so don’t even think of trying.”
You all laughed and you smiled at them both as Eddie took over control of your TV while Buck talked about what takeaway you guys should order.
“Pizza, I want a huge pizza.” You said.
“Pizza it is!” Buck grinned.
They set everything up for you, and gave you your pizza when it came, and when you were done Eddie took it and set it aside.
Now you were sat with your legs up on the table, Buck and Eddie next to you as they talked about something you were only half paying attention too.
You were resting your head on bucks shoulder, half asleep when Eddie gently tapped your shoulder.
“Meds.”
He handed you the box and a glass of water and you grumbled a little.
“I’ll hide it in your food.” He said.
You rolled your eyes and took your medicine, drank the water and handed them both back to him before going back to resting your head on bucks shoulder.
“You tired?” He asked.
“No…”
“You’re practically falling asleep on me.”
“If I got to sleep you two will go home…” you mumbled out.
“We’ll stay if you want us too.” Buck whispered.
He looked over at Eddie.
“Right?”
“Yeah. Yeah of course.”
You nodded and Eddie sat next to you, both him and Buck wrapping their arms around you.
“On three. Ready?”
You nodded your head, and they counted before they stood up with you, slowly standing up and you groaned in pain.
“Woah, we got you. We got you.” Eddie said.
It felt like forever until you finally managed to get you upstairs, and they set you on the bed, helping you get comfortable.
“Right, you all set?” Eddie asked.
You nodded and turned on the Tv, letting Buck sit next to you again so you could keep resting your head on his shoulder.
“You’re supposed to be sleeping.” Eddie scolded.
“Just sit down ass…” you mumbled.
Eddie laughed and sat next to you, holding the ice pack to your side for you.
It was easier to fall asleep like this, and it was a lot more comfortable.
When you woke up in the morning, you could barely get the effort to move, so you just laid there listening to Buck snoring for a few minutes.
Eventually Eddie came back up with some food and coffee for you and he set them aside and walked over to where Buck was sleeping.
“Eddie don’t.” You warned.
“It’s morning.”
“Eddie…”
He grabbed Buck by the arms and in one swift movement Buck was pulled on to the floor and he groaned.
“What the hell man…?”
“It’s morning.”
“And I was sleeping.”
“And (Y/N) needs breakfast.”
Eddie handed you your breakfast and you smiled.
“Fine, I’m up. I’m up. Medication?” Buck asked.
“Taken.” You said.
“You’re a big damn liar.”
He jogged down stairs to get it and Eddie grabbed the Tv remote to pass it over to you.
Since they had the day off, they decided to stick with you for the day, making sure you were okay, making sure you were eating and moving around enough.
As it came to the afternoon, you found yourself tired again.
So you were getting ready to nap, and you poked Eddie’s knee.
“What’s up?” He asked.
“Thanks.. both of you..” you yawned.
“It’s what best friends do.” Buck smiled

9-1-1 Ficlet: Like Father, Like Son
Prompt: Donuts
Pairing: Buck x Eddie
Head on Eddie's lap, Buck looked through the donut like a telescope. "I wonder if donut holes actually come from inside donuts."
Eddie smiled, stealing a chunk. "It's probably just marketing."
"Actually, it's both," Chris piped up, enjoying his own donut. "I looked it up on Wikipedia. The first donut holes were the leftover bits from inside donuts, but they're popular enough now people sometimes make them on their own."
Buck grinned, soft and proud. "Look at you being a fountain of knowledge."
Eddie soaked in the sight of his two favorite people in the world. "Just like his Buck."
For @rebelangelwings from @sanctuaryforalluniverses, hope you enjoy!

Allie Diaz
Chapter 11: Coming Home
Get ready for BUDDIE!
"That's it, I have officially handed in my application to the social work placements on offer! Finally!" Allie exclaimed, handing Eddie a coffee she had picked up on her way over to his place.
"That's great, Allie, well done." Eddie said sincerely.
"So," She started, "how are things with Buck?"
"What do you mean?"
"Well, I just thought, because of Christmas…" Allie hinted heavily but Eddie didn't seem to be picking up on her vibes.
"I don't get you."
Allie threw her hands in the air, "you kissed Buck!" She stage shouted, aware that Chris was in the living room next door.
Eddie seemed to find this amusing, "that was barely a kiss. I planted one on his forehead because you were holding mistletoe and I was in the Christmas spirit. There's nothing too it. I kiss Abuela on the forehead."
"But Buck isn't Abuela, Eddie."
"Very well deduced, Sherlock," Eddie replied sarcastically and busying himself with tidying the kitchen. "You still okay to pick Chris up from school tomorrow?"
"Of course. I better head home, Erica is cooking something special apparently," Allie grabbed her coat and chucked her coffee cup into the bin. She grabbed Eddie in a one-armed hug telling him, "be safe on shift, love you."
"Always am. Love you too kiddo," then, Eddie grabbed her head and planted an over exaggerated kiss to her forehead, arrogant smirk on his face, "see! Nothing to it!
"You keep telling yourself that, Edmundo!" Allie called behind her as she left the house laughing.
Some time between the evening and night, Allie was lounging in bed, doing some noncommittal research for an assignment when her phone lit up with Buck's face, vibrating.
A pit formed in her stomach.
Surely Buck wouldn't be calling at this hour whilst on shift to discuss the latest Marvel announcement.
"Buck?" She answered.
"Allie. Hey," Buck replied but didn't elaborate any. She could tell it was bad by the not so subtle crack in his voice.
"What's happened?
She heard Buck clear his throat and began explaining, "urm, its Eddie. He, uh…there was this kid in a well and he went to get him and…and we uh, he's safe, the boy, Chim got him but uh-"
This was all too much for Allie and as brash as it sounded, she needed answers now. The wait was killing her.
"Buck. Are you telling me my brother is dead?" Allie was shocked at the solidity of her own voice. Later she would realise that she had almost detached from the situation, from the pain stabbing at her heart.
"No," Buck was quick to answer, allowing short breaths to re-enter her lungs, "but we lost him. He was underground and he..he cut his line, Allie. The fucking idiot. Fucking hero idiot. We lost radio contact and then the well collapsed and I tried, I really tried Allie but Cap has a cooler head about it and he's given us orders and - fuck I just, I thought you should know but I also…I also needed to talk to someone who lo-who knows Eddie as well as I do." She was certain by this point Buck was actively crying. She was joining him.
"You can say it to me, you know? That you love him? I know. And it's okay. I get it, Buck and I'm glad you called and that we have each other. All I can say, is that I've been through this before, when he was injured in the military. He's a fighter, Buck and he will fight to get back to his family. Always. That includes you, obviously."
"I don't know how obvious it is, Allie." Buck responded, defeated.
"Maybe not to you boys, but everyone else can see. And I know my brother better than anyone." Allie paused to discuss the current issue, "I'm going to come to where you are okay? Abuela has Chris for now and I don't think he needs to know until we have a better idea of what's going on."
"Allie, I'm really sorry but I don't think it's a great idea for you to come out here. The site is really unsafe right now, I don't even know if you would get across the safety barrier," Buck reasoned.
"I don't care," was Allie’s print reply. "He's my brother, Buck. I'm going to be there so that when you guys do get him out safe, and I know you will, I'll be right there with him. He was alone out in Afghanistan and I don't want him to be alone and hurt ever again." Allie was resolute in her decision, already putting on extra layers and gathering her coat and boots.
"Hey, Allie? Thank you. I'll see you soon." Buck ended the call as she rushed out of the front door.
Buck was largely right, in that Allie was not allowed past the security tape and those who manned it. That was until she spotted the familiar power stance of Athena Grant.
"Athena! Sergeant Grant! Please, Athena!" Allie called across gaining the attention of the police sergeant. Recognition immediately lit up her face.
"Let her through," she called with authority. Allie was allowed to pass, rushing towards Athena who looked at her with sympathetic eyes.
"Thank you, Sergeant."
"Call me Athena. How are you holding up?"
"I don't know. Just keeping the faith I guess. He'll fight for us, I know it and I have to believe it." Allie answered, strong at first but increasingly teary.
Athena placed a sturdy hand to her shoulder in place of words that they both knew would offer no comfort.
Allie was then lead towards the small building where it seemed the 118 were devising a plan to rescue Eddie. She immediately found Buck, rushing to her friend.
"Buck!" He turned just in time for the small Diaz sibling to collide with his torso. He wrapped his arms around her immediately and placed a hand on the back of her head, resting his chin much like he would do with Maddie.
"Hey, how are you doing?" He asked, ducking his head down to look into her watery and red eyes.
At this point, all Allie could do was nod. Buck understood.
"We have a plan in place, we were just heading up now to start. You are welcome to stay here, but please, for your safety, you cannot come to the site with us, okay? It was Bobby that took charge and addressed her.
She nodded and watched the 118 head out the door, each giving her a kind smile or a pat on the shoulder.
Allie only had to endure half an hour of wearing a hole into the sleeve of her jumper and gnawing the skin around her fingernails before she heard her name being called. Athena soon barged into the room.
"They've got him," Athena broke the news with a smile.
Allie launched herself to her feet, following Athena outside. She didn't allow herself to rejoice yet. No. Not until she saw her brother with her own eyes.
She didn't have to wait long. Eddie was already on a stretcher, being loaded into the back of the 118 ambulance. She didn't fail to notice Buck resting his hand on Eddie's arm like a lifeline.
"Eddie!" She called to her brother who looked at her sleepily. She rushed to his side, climbing into the Ambo without seeking permission. Noone stopped her.
"Hey, Chiquita. I'm okay. It's okay." Why was Eddie comforting her? He was the one that went missing and nearly died and is in the back of an ambulance getting stuck with needles!
Oh, Allie realised it was because she was the one hyperventilating and sobbing in relief. Oops. She made a conscious effort to take a slow deep breath.
Chimney hopped into the driver's seat, meaning there was room for Buck to climb into the back with Allie and Hen who was administering treatment.
Allie grasped Eddie's free hand like she was unsure he was actually real, whilst Buck stared at Eddie with a similar look in his eye. One hand however, rested on Allie’s back, slyly monitoring her breathing as she tried to calm herself from a full panic attack. Eddie noticed this and appreciated Buck immensely for comforting his sister while he couldn't.
Once they had pulled up to the hospital, Hen and Chim cheeled Eddie away to the waiting doctors and nurses and Allie and Buck had to part with him. Seeing him disappear through the doors hit Allie like a freight train and all the feelings both from tonight and the resurfacing ones from years before began to fall upon her, crushing her.
Hen tried to assure her that her and Chim did not find anything immediately worrying, just that Eddie was exhausted, dehydrated and possibly suffering the beginning of hypothermia. He was not dying.
Regardless, Allie had to excise herself, walking randomly through hospital corridors until she found a quiet corner and sat herself in it. The cool and hard floor grounding her, the walls at a right angle pressed against her shoulder almost like a stone hug. She tucked her head to her knees, allowing the emotions to hit her.
One those floodgates opened, she was in trouble and with no other options but to let the flood wash over her.
Buck had been watching since a minute after she had sat down. He wanted to give her space of course, and he knew that these attacks were not unusual, but it still pained him to see his friend in such anguish. Thus, when her sobs went from heart-wrenching to silent, but her shoulders continued to heave, Buck moved to her side and placed a large hand to her shoulder.
Allie didn't even notice. She was too focused on her breaths halting their journey in her throat.
She did notice when she received a firm pinch to the forearm, whipping her head up to be face to face with a concerned Buck.
"Hey, you're okay, Allie. Eddie is going to be fine, you'll be able to see him real soon," Allie was nodding, trying to convey that she understood rationally but that convincing her body of that was a whole other story. The stress of the day and the reminder of her past experience had the steering wheel right now.
"Take some deep breaths with me, yeah? Everything is okay. You're safe, Eddie is safe, Chris is safe. I'm here for you." She vaguely noticed his fingers wrapping around her thin wrist as his concern grew.
"Can you focus on your toes for me, Allie? Can you wiggle your toes?" He received a jerky nod. "That's great! Can you feel your socks on your feet? The shoes over them? Are your shoes tight, or is there wiggle room?" He knew she couldn't answer but he watched as she looked at her feet and was following his instructions.
"What about your legs? What are your trousers made out of? Can you really concentrate and feel all the muscles from your ankles to your knees, to your thighs, and to your hips?" Her breathing can stuttering back slowly. By the time Buck was talking about her fingers and hands, she had launched herself into his arms, tears flowing freely into his LAFD t-shirt.
Buck shushed her and stroked her hair, rocking her slightly while she composed herself. He was grateful to feel useful in a situation he would otherwise feel powerless in.
"How?" Was all Allie could utter to begin with but Buck understood.
"After your drunken escapades when I saw you have an attack, I did some research. I already saw Eddie do the 5 4 3 2 1 technique, but I wanted to know some other grounding options just in case. Glad I did," he finished cheekily.
"Thank you. For everything today. I think you're my best friend, Buckley."
"I'd say the same back but there's a smaller, cuter Diaz that holds that title I'm afraid," Buck replied.
"I'd be honored to be second place to Christopher."
"There you two are," Chim exclaimed, rounding the corner to their hiding spot. "Eddie's asking for you both."
Attempting to de-puff her eyes, Allie arrived at the door to Eddie's hospital room, Buck beside her. He gestured for her to go first.
"Hey big brother. What did I tell you this morning, huh? Cutting your line is not being flipping safe!" She started at him, only half joking.
Around ten minutes later, Allie didn't want to hold up the reunion any more, so sent Buck in and gave them a moment of privacy whilst she got the team coffees and updated them.
"Buck, hey," Eddie started.
"You're a fucking idiot. A stupid, heroic, fucking idiot. You know that Diaz?" Buck went straight in with no pleasantries.
"Okay, okay, Buckley, I've already been berated by my sister, you can let up a little." Buck took pity on the man who looked exhausted laid up in the white hospital bed.
"You scared me." Buck said simply.
"I'm sorry." Eddie replied.
They sat in silence.
"Buck?" He turned his attention to Eddie who looked into his eyes with such intensity. "When I was in that well, all I could think about was getting back for Christopher, because he can't lose another parent. I couldn't put him through that. But, then I also started thinking about what I want for myself…and of course I want to watch Chris grow up, graduate, be there for his first love and his first heartbreak. But what do I really want for myself? So, I fought to get out. To get back to my family. I will always fight to come home to my family, Buck." Eddie reached his hand out to take Buck's, "I'll always fight to come home to you."
Buck hoped with all soul that Eddie was saying what he thought he was saying, and that he wasn't about to ruin the greatest thing to ever happen to him. Slowly, gently, he leaned in close to Eddie, and pressed the most gentle of kisses to his lips.
It wasn't earth-shattering or revolutionary like Buck had imagined, but something different. Something better. It felt like coming home.
As they pulled apart, footsteps sounded at the door and the men turned to see a Cheshire cat grin spread across the face of Allie Diaz.
"Fucking, finally!"

Blood prompt : "your bandages - you're bleeding through them" for buddie?
I love your writing and blog!!
Hi! Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoy my writing and my silly little posts and reblogs! Sorry this took me a while, I hope you're in the mood for something kind of fluffy!
If there is one thing Eddie's boyfriend is, it's very stubborn.
Not that Eddie has much room to talk in that regard, because he can also be very stubborn, but he'd prefer it if the people around him weren't. Besides, he wasn't the one wanting to go back to work on blood thinners, so Buck is definitely worse than him.
The problem is that it's been only two days since Buck managed to get himself injured during a call, and he's already up and moving around again.
Eddie swears he nearly had a heart attack when he saw those beams come down on Buck, while his boyfriend acted all nonchalant about it later, of course. He doesn't think it was something to be nonchalant about, considering Buck's turnout tore as it was caught on metal, and he ended up with a bleeding shoulder.
It's a mostly superficial wound, nothing too crazy, but it's big, spanning over Buck's entire right shoulder blade. Which means that every move pulls on it—and Eddie can't imagine that is pleasant—while it also makes lying or sitting down in a comfortable position very hard for the other man.
The result is that he keeps moving around the house, trying to find something to do that doesn't aggravate his injury too much while still keeping him busy, and he's failing miserably at it. And Eddie gets it, he gets that it's hard for Buck to do nothing and let his body rest and heal. He'd just also like it if the man cared about doing what is best for himself every once in a while.
"You're not washing the dishes, are you?" Eddie calls out when it's been a little too long since Buck went into the kitchen, and there is the sound of plates clanging against each other. When there is no response, he gets up from the couch with a sigh, shuffling into the kitchen on his socked feet.
Sure enough, Buck is indeed washing the dishes, drying them and putting them away as he goes, and he's stretching up on his tiptoes to put a mixing bowl they used during the weekend—and had been sitting on the counter since—on the top shelf in the cabinet it belongs. He's shirtless because the fabric kept bothering him, and it was a pain to get anything on that didn't button at the front.
It's definitely not the first time he made that move because Eddie immediately notices the red that has spread through the white bandage, and he shakes his head exasperatedly. He definitely reopened the wound, then.
"Buck, baby," Eddie says with a sigh, grabbing Buck by his good arm to stop him from moving back to the sink. "Your bandages—you're bleeding through them."
Buck blinks at him for a few seconds, then tries to twist so he can see his own shoulder. Eddie sighs again, shakes his head and guides his boyfriend to the chair he pulls from the kitchen table. He makes him sit down with his chest to the backrest, which is how they've been changing the dressing when necessary.
When Buck opens his mouth to say something, Eddie merely says "no", and Buck, resigned, hangs his head and leans forward against the chair.
"You know that every time that wound reopens you'll have to wait a little longer until Bobby will consider letting you go back to work, right?"
He grabs the med kit from the counter, opening it up and setting out everything he needs to change Buck's bandages.
"Because you were so much more patient after you got shot," Buck mutters, sounding a little like a petulant child, and he winces when Eddie peels off the soaked bandage. The damage doesn't seem too bad, and it'll stop bleeding soon enough, but it does need to be cleaned.
Eddie can't help the way he smiles fondly, and he leans down to press a kiss to Buck's cheek as he ruffles his hair.
"Yeah, well, we're talking about you right now. And I would like you back in one piece as soon as possible because I love you, okay?"
Buck ducks his head, turning it away from Eddie, but he isn't quick enough to hide the smile on his face. It seems to work, though, because the rest of the day he seems to do his best to rest and let his shoulder heal, and he listens to Eddie's instructions. If that trend will continue tomorrow, well, it's still Buck. And Eddie loves him, stubbornness and all.

Pairing: Buddie
Prompt: Radio
Cold fear. That's all Buck could feel as he stood frozen staring up at the inferno.
This was all wrong - Buck and Eddie were a team. They always had each other's backs.
He should have been on the inside, protecting Eddie when the resounding boom occurred, shattered windows scattering glass.
Then proceeded the longest ten seconds of Buck's life. Longer than when he was trapped under a fire truck. Bobby radioed Eddie for his status. No response. Cap repeated the command. Static.
Buck grasped his radio with trembling hands. As if Buck willed it, Eddie's voice crackled through.
For @hippolotamus from @rebelangelwings, hope you enjoy!

Diaz Sister
Chapter 14: Fight or Flight. Or maybe Freeze?
Eddie stumbles onto a suspicious case that ends in tragedy.
"I come bearing cookies!" Allie called into Eddie's house, closing the door with her foot as her arms were filled with trays of baked goods.
Eddie had invited her and Buck round for dinner with him, Chris and Carla.
Buck rounded the corner, taking the tray from her, "ooo what kind?"
"Bobby sent me a recipe. White chocolate and cranberry shortcake," Allie revealed.
"Mmm, yes please!" Buck said with a hand to his stomach and throwing his head back.
Carla and Eddie sat atop Christopher's bed, whilst the boy added books and toys to a bag for donating. Eddie had explained to Allie via phone call earlier that afternoon the circumstances of a boy named Charlie and his mother that he and the 118 had helped on a call yesterday. Christopher, ever the heart of gold, was eager to donate what he could to Charlie, having spoken to him on FaceTime and formed a fast friendship.
Allie had also been touched by Eddie’s concern for the family, and sought out the Funding page he mentioned the mother collected donations from. She wasn't expecting to find what she did in her search.
"Hey, Buck? Come look at this for a second for me. Tell me I'm not crazy." Allie requested, tilting her laptop towards Buck.
He took a second to look over the page, eyes narrowing when Allie flipped to another similar funding page. "Is that..?"
"I think so. We need to tell Eddie."
"Tell Eddie what?" The man himself walked into the kitchen and pinched Buck's side in affection. He glanced over his sister's shoulder at her laptop.
"Eddie, I was going to donate to the page you mentioned but…I found some, let's say concerning, stuff. I think this lady might have been lying to you."
From there, Allie and Buck showed Eddie the proof of multiple funding pages, always depicting the same people, but with different names and in different states. Carla also joined then, sharing Allie’s concerns.
"There's also comments accusing the mother of making Charlie sick. Sounds like it could be a case of Munchausen by proxy," Allie suggested.
The next morning, after a sleepless night of worry and investigating into Sheila and Charlie's past, Eddie, Allie and Buck had a plan.
Allie had called in the suspicion to her mentor, explaining the situation. Her case was probably aided by her brother, a paramedic, bringing the case to them.
Allie and her mentor for the day were already on route to the apartment when Eddie received the distress call from Charlie. By the time the social workers arrived at the residents, sirens rang out close behind them and Allie whipped round to see the 136 and the 118 Battalion Chief vehicle screeching to a halt beside them.
"Eddie? Buck! What's going on? Is Charlie okay?" Allie called, running to catch up with the men.
Eddie called over his shoulder to both Allie and Captain Mehta of the 136, "sounds like the mum is having an overdose."
They all raced upstairs to the apartment, Eddie reaching the door first and going straight to the young boy. Allie and Lucy followed, trying to ascertain what the situation was. The paramedics worked on Sheila.
From what Charlie was saying, he had been aware of his mother dosing him with eye drops and gave her a taste of her own medicine, although in a much higher dosage.
Once Sheila was strapped to a gurney and transported to an ambulance, Charlie was also placed in an ambulance of his own, Eddie reassuring him that he would be safe and taken care of.
Allie was beckoned to the ambulance transporting Charlie, her role was to shadow her mentor, and so she was offered the passenger seat of the Ambo. Just as she bid her brother and Buck farewell, a loud noise perforated the block, causing Allie to jump. She turned around just in time to see Buck.
His white shirt was now mottled with red as if someone had flicked a paintbrush at him. What had done that?
She turned to her brother, not a meter away from her. He wasn't holding himself in his usual manner.
The sounds around her were garbled.
Her brother hit the tarmac. Hard.
The tarmac turned from black to burgundy.
Allie continued to stare.
Why wasn't anyone helping him? Why wasn't she helping him?
The next thing she registered was a force shoving her forward, something latched onto her arm, as she traveled towards Buck against her will and slammed into the ground. The sharp ring of metal clipping metal was close to her ears. Sparks flew from where Buck had been mere milliseconds before.
A body was on top of her. Unfamiliar. Her knees vaguely throbbed from colliding with the fire truck and ground with such force.
She could sense Buck near her. She wanted him. She was scared and he was covered in blood and she still couldn't register why.
Through the garbled sounds and her own heartbeat drumming white noise into her head, she registered the familiar voice of Buck close to her ear.
"I've got him, Allie. I'm gonna get him, it's going to be okay" Buck wasn't looking at her though, he was already leaving her side, rolling under the truck and towards…oh no.
Eddie.
She felt the bile rise in her throat. She blinked her eyes once, hoping the scene in front of her would disappear.
This could not be happening.
Eddie wasn't in a war zone anymore. He was a firefighter in LA; not exactly the safest job but he wasn't supposed to get shot at again.
No. This wasn't happening then.
Maybe Allie hit her head. Or fell asleep. Or ate a hallucinogenic substance - that had happened to the 118 before.
Allie was still staring at the mirage of her brother, his eyes looking through her until they rolled into the back of his head.
Buck was still screaming.
Something wrapped around her waist.
She'd never felt so heavy before, like all her muscles had been stretched out and snapped back into a floppy, useless mess. She was in the air briefly, unable to stop her arms from hanging limply in front of her and her head rolling slightly.
No.
She couldn't leave Eddie and Buck, even if this was a hallucination. She wanted to kick out and scream and return to her brother and best friend, but she couldn't force her arms or legs or even her head to move. Someone had bundled her into the truck.
For one moment she waited, and was then joined by a paramedic and Buck lifting a limp Eddie into the truck.
She registered her name, she thinks Buck must have called it, questioning her whereabouts. He turned to briefly look at her, but Allie couldn't take her eyes off the brother that laid prone, eyes barely open, and skin sickly pale. Allie thinks about all the colour leaking from his body onto that tarmac outside.
They're moving and the truck jolts, metal screeching against metal and she feels a brutal heat near the open doorway.
Buck is talking frantically, leaning over her brother.
"You hurt?" Eddie mumbles.
"No," Buck shakes his head frantically.
"Allie 'kay?"
"Yeah! She's okay Eddie, she's right here, safe and sound - just worried about you. So just hold on for us okay? Hold on, Eds, we're so close."
Allie saw Eddie register that she and Buck are safe, and then he passed out despite the desperate and watery pleas from Buck.
Again, Allie zoned out, unable to process her brother losing consciousness for what could very well be the final time.
Seconds or hours or weeks passed, and the truck stopped and there was movement but her vision was too blurry and she couldn't concentrate on anything.
She didn't know how long she had been crouched alone in the corner of the truck. She would have happily stayed there in all honestly - it felt like a shelter from reality. Allie knew on some level, that as soon as she stepped out of the truck, she would have to face the trauma of the day.
First to her was Buck.
"Allie?" He called to her in barely a whisper.
Buck approached her ever so cautiously with his hands palms up in front of him. Any other time, Allie would laugh at him treating her like a wild animal.
Maybe she did look like a wild animal, backed into a corner, eyes darting wildly but not fully seeing.
"Al, can you look at me please?" Maybe it was the way Buck sounded so utterly destroyed, but Allie did as he asked. "Thank you. Are you o- shit o-of course you're not okay. I mean, are…are you hurt?"
She continued to stare through him.
Buck reached out one of his own trembling hands to her similarly quivering hands.
A new voice appeared in the broken doorway behind her. She noticed Buck's attention divert from her, fresh tears welling in his eyes.
Allie was alone again although she could hear voices close by to her. She could feel herself focusing more.
"-bby, I don't know what happened. We-we were just on-on a call and then…then he… I-I couldn't" Allie could tell Buck was crying. She felt a pang in her chest, a pull to him. She doesn't like when Buck is sad. Help him.
"Hey, it's okay Buck, you did everything you could, and he's in good hands. He's still alive, okay? Focus on that. You kept him alive. You did good, Son."
"I can't - I can't get Allie out of the truck. She's gone catatonic, Cap. She saw all of it and shut down. I think I'm freaking her out with the b-blood on me." Buck continued.
"Okay, why don't you go find Chimney and get washed off in the bathroom, yeah? I'll stay with Allie, check her out for any injuries and we'll go from there."
Allie could only assume that Buck agreed, as the next moment, someone else was entering the truck with her, invading her bubble away from reality.
"Hey, Allie. It's Bobby. Mind if I keep you company until Buck gets back?" He offered it as a choice which she appreciated. Later, much later, she would think a lot about how much she appreciated Bobby Nash.
She didn't give any indication of consent or dismissal, so Bobby sat, cross legged in front of her. He strategically placed himself so that he blocked her view from the pool of blood left by her brother.
"How you holding up, Kiddo?" Bobby asked with so much empathy. He didn't expect an answer, but felt it was polite to make conversation anyway. "Would it be alright if I just touch your wrist? I just want to make sure you aren't hurt," he explained, moving slowly and looking at her. He received no response so continued to take her wrist into his hand and gently monitor her pulse.
It was wild. Completely opposite to her exterior appearance of stoicism. Her blood thrummed against Bobby's fingers and he imagined how it must be almost painful for her be in that state.
"Do you know if you were hurt?" He paused in case she wanted to answer, "did you maybe hit your head or collide with the truck? Captain Mehta said he gave you quite the tackle," Bobby let out a light chuckle that was clearly supposed to lighten the mood but it didn't reach his eyes.
"Alright, Kid, I'm pretty sure you can hear me and understand me so I'm going to fill you in; Eddie is alive. You understand me? Your brother is alive, and in surgery, and he is in the best hands. That's what we have to focus on right now. Athena is out there right now looking for the SOB that did this." Bobby explained in plain talk. "I'm just going to wipe your face and hand if that's okay with you?"
Allie was confused. Why did she need a wipe? She looked at the damp wipe that Bobby had just moved from her face, noticing crimson spots.
Had she got hurt and she didn't realise? She didn't feel pain and her face didn't hurt at Bobby's fussing.
Unless it wasn't - oh. Oh no.
Suddenly, it was like a jolt of electricity charged all her muscles into action.
She scrambled clumsily to her hands and knees, desperate to escape the truck now.
"Buck." Was all she could communicate to Bobby. He stopped her from falling head first out of the truck, instead helping her get to her feet on the ground. Buck was walking towards them, "Buck!" She screamed. He ran to her, eyes wide at her change.
Just as Buck got to Allie, she dropped to her knees, impact lessened with Bobby's quick reflexes, and she felt everything in her stomach rising, desperate for expulsion.
Her hair was gathered from her around her face, and a large warm hand rubbed soothing circles onto her back.
Eddie did that last time she was sick after her bender. Eddie always did that for her. Eddie always took care of her. Eddie. Eddie. Oh God, Eddie.
"Eddie, Eddie. Oh God. Oh God. Eddie. Eddie. Eddie." She didn't realise her internal monologue was coming out of her in breathless shrieks in between her vomiting onto the floor.
"It's okay. Get it up, get it out. Cry if you need to. We've got you." Bobby mumbled soothingly, directing the words to the pair of best friends. Buck was actively weeping with Allie now.
After several minutes where both Allie and Buck worked diligently to refine their breathing, Bobby offered a bottle of water he found in the truck to Allie. "Come on. Let me drive you both home."
Buck looked up at his father figure, "Bobby, I can't. I-I have to, we have to tell Christopher. He deserves to know why his dad isn’t coming home tonight."
Allie looked at Buck with wild eyes. Her heart broke all over again. Oh she hadn't even thought about precious Christopher, she was being so selfish. But the thought of telling him, talking about the incident, caused her chest to constrict and she puffed out, "Buck I…I don't think…I can't, Buck. I'm so sorry, I can't do it. I can't break his heart. Please. Please don't make me." She begged her friend and looked to Bobby for support.
Of course Buck wasn't going to force her. But he knew what he had to do.
Bobby, ever the problem-solver, stepped in, "why don't I drive you to Christopher, Buck, and Allie you can stay here and keep us all updated on Eddie's condition? You are his next of kin anyway, the hospital will be most willing to give you information."
"Okay," she answered in a small voice, nodding gratefully. Bobby was giving her a legitimate out to doing the task she dreaded and she was so thankful.
"I'll see you soon, okay? Update me the second you hear anything," Buck instructed Allie, helping her stand on her shaking legs.
"Of course. Give Chris the biggest hug for me." She gave her own instruction. Buck wrapped her in a bear hug that nearly had her breaking down all over again.
"Love you, Al."
"Love you too, Buckley," she mumbled into his fresh LAFD shirt. "Hey, uh…thank you." She tried to pack as much meaning into those two words as possible.
Thank you for saving my brother's life while I froze. Thank you for calming him when I couldn't. Thank you for being there for Eddie's son. Thank you for making my brother so happy. Thank you for being my best friend. Thank you for being you.
Buck simply placed a kiss to her forehead and walked with Bobby in the direction of his car.
Allie spent another moment outside by herself. She practiced taking deep breaths of the fresh air and staring at the glass hospital door. Someone appeared from them. Someone familiar.
"Need any company?" Chimney approached Allie with a sympathetic smile.
Allie did want company as it happened, but she was pleased it was Chim that offered that companionship. He knew what it was like to have a brother in the hospital. It hadn't been long since his brother Albert had been in a brutal crash and rushed to hospital - on the day of his daughter's birth too.
Allie nodded her head, and took Chim's offered arms, still distrustful of her legs, and followed him into the hospital to begin an agonising wait.
