To all the participants of Tamlin Week:

First of all, HI!! WE LOVE YOU!!! yall are so creative and dedicated, we are so proud of this corner of our fandom! As event mods, we feel like one of the most important things we can do during a fandom event is be supportive. Me (Reyna) and Lady Midnight will be doing what we can, by reblogging every post onto our personal blogs and added comments/kudos to all the fics.

Unfortunately, we cannot pause real life, not even during Tamlin Week. Both of us have had to work quite a bit this week. I especially have had NO TIME since I've been at sea most of the week, and am starting a long, strenuous field day tomorrow (I set my alarm for 4:30 AM tomorrow with hatred in my heart). This means that Lady Midnight has been handling every single submission to make sure it is reblogged to the Tamlin Week blog in a timely manner, with tags. Therefore, she also hasn't had much time to focus on actually enjoying the submissions.

All this to say, we appreciate you so much, even if that appreciation isn't being shown right now! We want to make sure we have time to really sit down and enjoy those fics and leave thoughtful comments, because you deserve them! We want time to really appreciate the beautiful art, moodboards, and poetry that you have spent the time making. That means that it'll probably take several weeks for us to go through every submission.

We have 2 requests at this point. One, please be patient with us, and know that your work brings us so much joy, and we will be able to share that with you soon. And two, please help us pick up the slack by supporting your fellow creators. Even a simple reblog with a heart emoji in the tags can mean everything to a creator, especially since we're all making content for an unpopular character. HII!! I absolutely ADORE your writing!! Could you please write a jellyfish!reader x helluva boss (mainly Stolas, Blitzø, Ozzie and Fizzy but if you want to add more characters that’s fine!!)

like a reader who’s whole colour palette is blue, purple and pink which contracts the red, black and white vibe in hell and is UNDENIABLY beautiful. Like, reader is absolutely ethereal and has the jellyfish haircut!! The reader COULD rival an overlord (maybe a sin if they made deals with others!!) with their strength and the fact they could electrify, shock and sting others- the fact they’re so CALM yet so elegant is an understatement. They rarely get mad or upset and when they do, it’s so passive aggressive that its just the slight insults, leaving out the person or just harming them straight away. Btw reader would be able to glow in the dark, doesn’t have a brain but is EXTREMELY intelligent (could be immortal as some jellyfish are), doesn’t feel pain, no heart (bones or blood) and is just made of 95% water YET looks so human-like and beautiful (has the human body yet no organs etc. think of a mirage, an illusion. They are demon(human) like, they have a body but it’s completely water. Not that you could tell. Their skin is pale, almost white, they’re almost ghostly yet so beautifully created. I don’t think jellyfish can sleep either and I’d like to think that jellyfish!reader died in the water while observing jellyfish, they were so SO obsessed with jellyfish yet they died by one and I’d also like to think they would have some sort of power with water, due to the fact they’re mainly water (and electricity, poison).

Stolas thinks you look extremely cool. Lets say he saw you on one of his outings. You immediately catch his eye because of your practically see-through body. He had never seen a Sinner look like you before. Of course he has a book about jellyfish in his collection though. So he already knows a lot about them. But he'll ask you a bunch of questions and write them in a little notebook. He finds it quite interesting that you don't have a brain, but are completely capable of functioning. Though, if he really thinks about it, if you did have a brain it would just be floating around. Which would probably be very strange.

Blitzø thinks you look badass. You were one of his clients when you met. He was enthralled by your jellyfish look and your need to take revenge on the living world. Lets just say, the two of you hit it off. He might even ask you to work for I.M.P as like his assistant or something. He'll ask you a ton of questions, most of them revolving around sex... He doesn't realize you don't sleep until you stayed in the office for a full 24 hours. He then felt stupid for not taking that into consideration. Basically, you make him feel stupid because you don't have a brain, but you're smarter than him.

Asmodeus thinks you look adorable. The first time you guys met, he assumed you were from the Envy ring and was just visiting the Pride ring like him. But he was wrong, very, very wrong. To find out you were a sinner was a shock to him. Like jaw on the floor type shocked. Will buy you jellyfish themed things when he finds out you love jellyfish. Maybe he'll even get you a pet jellyfish. His trips to the Pride ring become more frequent, just to see you. When you tell him you died looking at jellyfish, he's surprised once again. Considering they were your cause of death, your love for them didn't waver.

Fizzarolli thinks you look amazing in every way. You first met at one of his shows in the Pride ring. You caught his eye with your jelly-watery body. He probably points it out during the show, mentioning how cool you looked. You were a bit shy to be the center of attention, but you still decided to come up with him after the show. You two make jokes and laugh until someone else comes up for an autograph. Years later, you meet again. And he's just as mesmerized as the day you met. He wants to know everything about you. So expect a ton of questions heading your way.

Okay so first I do the self-care stuff and later i'll do the other prompt 😁

Self-care routine / tips of The Boys!

Lucifer: • His way of self-care is listening to soft piano music in the evening, next to a fireplace. He is glad to invite you! • I feel like he also cares about what he eats, trying to keep it as healthy as can be. I feel like he loves to treat himself with some good quality fish? • Appearance-wise I think he doesn’t really care as much as he wishes he could, he keeps his hair and nails nice and clean but that’s like… very basic hygene stuff.

Mammon: • His self care routine includes ordering packages at 1.24AM. • Just the excitemenet of new stuff arriving soon puts him in a better mood! • He also cares about appearance as his side job is being a model. He is not afraid to use more expensive lotions, shampoo, etc. It has to be expensive but doesn't have to be quality if you get what I mean. • Him and Asmo brush their teeth most often (up to 2 times a day) • I’m 100% sure he would love the feeling of driving aimlessly at night with his favourite music on!

Leviathan: • I feel like he is the one who needs advice on this topic. • Yes he orders stuff sometimes but he is conscious about it, it was a well thought-out decision he made. Him deserving it wasn’t really the intention. • I think sometimes he takes a long bath, by long I mean about 2 hours, and that’s pretty much it for a month.

Satan: • He learned the most from Asmo; he is very well avare of how many lotions, masks, oils, creams there are and he tried a lot of them. • His favourite are hand creams, which he uses every day. • Sometimes he puts on a face mask with Asmo but to be fair it happens like 4 times a year so it doesn’t actually do much to him. • Otherwise I think he also enjoys a rocking chair on the porch, perhaps in the garden (not where all the bugs are though!) with an enjoyable book and some non-sparkling beverage.

Asmodeus: • His list is basically endless, so just a list of some he does every day / often: • Has to wash his hair 3 times a week, uses shampoo, balm, oil and is very strict about how to dry it. • Has a lotion specific to each part of his body, except his face because you can’t have enough variety of face-serums. • Takes long baths but careful! Too long is just as bad as too short!! • Likes to sunbathe in moderation on Dia’s beach • Having his daily beauty sleep no matter what • Goes shopping on the regular

Beelzebub: • Best bet is him making his comfort food and offering you some • Works out a lot of course, a heathy body is a must! • I feel like he is also into reading personal growth books? Like how to be a better person, how to be more in-touch with you emotions, how to heal from this and that • His place of self-care also includes your embarace. Pls just cuddle with him. That’s enough of selfcare itself.

Belphie: • Ah…about self-care… • Well I guess some extra sleep counts as such? • Loves to chill under the stars, very quiet and very peaceful place to be at. It really does calm his mind • Honsetly I think he is even worse than Leviathan • Please make him brush his teeth and comb his hair • Can change a lot if you influence him though!

Diavolo:

His tips are so extravagant you can't really try them alone...

Like ah! Just go on a cruise! Have a wellness weekend by yourself! Try some rare dishes!

Not much into appearance somehow?? Like yeeeah nail, hair, teeth always nice and neat but doesn't go the extra mile.

He'd be into coloring books to help him be in a relaxed kind of state! Though that is something only Luke knows about.

Solomon:

This man is a mess regarding self-care to be frank.

I mean he usually does as he wants, that's not the issue here. He just doesn't really treat himself as priority?

Okay he does care about the basics but sometimes he skips a day or two. He genuinely forgets to brush teeth for example.

More into the spiritual kind of self-care, mental state, personality, you get it.

Do you think having such a personalized and detailed headcanon makes it harder to enjoy fic about the show/game that's written by others?

I mean sure, probably.

But unfortunately things I adore, for people named Doc who are me, fall into one of two buckets:

The character work and plot in this show are incredible, I find myself turning it around in my mind like a rotisserie chicken. I constantly discover new things about the show/book/game or the characters in it. I do not read fic about this, because why would I? Every answer I search for is in the text. I want to talk about this with someone, but about what is THERE, not what could be there. Ex: The Haunting of Hill House, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Piranesi, Bioshock:Infinite, Watership Down, Yellowjackets, among others.

The concepts of this could be amazing but are handled so fucking badly so consistently, in a shocking contrast to how INCONSISTENT the character work is, that all I want to do is steal it and make it better. All i want to do is turn it into something that doesn't suck ass when you look at it too hard. So I am going to take it SO seriously, and I am going to develop the rich inner lives for these characters that they lack, with intense backstories and families and motivation for how they got to be the person we know, or know sometimes, in certain episodes or shorts. Ex: Sailor Moon and Overwatch are the biggies here obviously, this is actually not an emotion I feel very often. I don't have intense backstories and extra-textual feelings and ideas about most of the stuff I read and watch, these two are just my Spiders Georg.

So! The odds on me being into something in the correct way to make me want to Seek Treasure Elsewhere but also I have a chill enough attitude about how the characters are that Any Dream Will Do is almost nil. I do not in ANY way mean this in a shady way, but I mostly read published adult fiction for entertainment and not fanfic. I am very picky about my fanfic. So, "plus these two new red and blue girls into Starbucks" often won't work for me, because the reasons to have Haruka and Michiru meet in a coffee shop are completely different from any of the reasons Fareeha and Angela might meet in a coffee shop, and so many of those types are archtypical plug and play stuff. Honestly, I have skated the idea of making a cheat sheet of fanon archetypes of various characters and buying a typewriter to sell 100-200 word 'quick fic' at cons with my sister. That's how common it is to use these archetypes. This is not a criticism! At all!

But, to take the two couples above, I have read so much BORING SHIT about both HM and FA that I could throw up. Lesbian couples have a lot of very milquetoast writing about them, and a lot of meet-cute which isn't really my bag.

But there are authors I love! @oathkeeper-of-tarth was and is one of the best harumichi writers out there and we don't even have all the same headcanons. The rare occasions @verbforverb decides to grace me with "Jewish Mercy I don't Have To Write" I pop a can of bubbly in the tub. And on both fields of battle @keyofjetwolf has stuff I've had bookmarked for years, and there are some things even within Rei's backstory and history that we disagree on.

Actually, to that point what I like is good writing. You can write me into believing nearly anything. There are things I believe about Amelie when I'm reading @lemon-embalmer's stuff that when I go back to my own world, aren't true, but when I'm in her world who the fuck cares, I'm having a great time. EVEN MORE to the point, I read @moonlight-frittata's stupid sun and moon lesbian League of Legends shit and I would rather shoot myslef than know ANYTHING about the game, but unfortunately she has a beautiful turn of phrase and plot flow to her work that I just....read anyway, because it is good. Fucking @tallangrycockatiel had me like 25 pages or so into a story before I was like, "OH SHIT, IS THIS SLASH??? WAIT I DON'T WANT TO READ ABOUT BOYS' LOVE!! NO!!" *hits next page* And I still could not care less about that podcast and would never listen to it, and if I did I would be massively disappointed because to my mind, her John and Arthur are the actual article, and whatever the fuck is going on in the source material can eat my dick.

So, yes, I DO think that having a very particular point of view is going to mean I back out of a story where like, "Lena stepped out of her Chelsea flat, custom leather high heels clicking against the step" sometimes, or, you know, "Haruka put down her copy of War and Peace, each meticulous note codified by a color-coded tab. Blue was for historical references to research, green for character analysis, yellow for themes, blah blah blah*" But I am actually shockingly open minded in what I will read, often to the point that I'm reading stuff from SHIT I DO NOT LIKE OR CARE ABOUT, because the quality of the writing is excellent. So, also no.

*I met someone who read books like this and I suddenly realized what the literary equivalent of 'knowing someone is a serial killer' was.

no joke but what I really want for Buddy Daddies as a fandom is to make fanart and fanfic post present time ep12 where Rei wears an arm orthosis when working.

I think varied disability aids being represented would be fantastic, and personally would write Rei as someone being deeply proud of something he's done for his family, but also understanding with time that using an orthosis also helps him at work and in raising Miri. with a giant portion of mobility/motorics aids being represented by prosthetics, seeing more variety and exploring it in fiction would also help making a step in normalising disability treatments.

I don't want to imply only Arya antis think she'll go to the Riverlands first lol I'm pretty sure us Arya stans came up with the theory she'll reunite with Lady Stoneheart and give her the gift of mercy in the first place. Unfortunately though there are a lot of people whose speculation for Arya starts and ends at her killing people and disappearing off the face of the earth or realizing "revenge is bad" and then doing absolutely nothing afterwards. Though one thing I've seen very common with Arya antis is the idea that she'll effectually never reunite with any of her family members or identify as Arya going forward, either staying in the shadows or dying nameless or faceless without anyone recognizing her. That's a bit that worries me somewhat with her returning to the Riverlands first thing. Most Arya fans do expect her to be crowned by Lady Stoneheart and lead the BWB and Nymeria's pack up north but a lot of speculation from non-Arya fans ends up similar to Arya's reunion with Sansa and Bran in season 7; out of the loop, out of place, her journey treated as boring compared to the others, underwhelming reunions, conveniently out of the picture long enough so she can't ruin relationships that otherwise wouldn't happen with her present, secondary to Sansa.

One thing I think gets overlooked is how close Braavos is to Westeros. I've seen a lot of people act like Sansa in the Vale is a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Wall while treating Braavos like it's as far away as Meereen but they're actually about the same distance away. Braavos does appear to be perfectly placed if his original intent was for Arya to end up somewhere in the North, whether at the Wall, White Harbor, or even Hardhome.

But mostly I reject the idea that Arya will end up secondary to her brothers if she goes North. I have faith in GRRM loving Arya too much to ever treat her the way the show did in seasons 7 and 8. I think she has a role to play in the North considering how much of the Northern plots in ADWD are tied together with the "Arya"-Ramsay marriage and Jeyne. Stansas ASOIAF fans really believe that Jeyne will have absolutely no intersection with the person she's impersonating despite GRRM spelling it out that she's almost guaranteed to sail to Braavos for safety. It makes absolutely no sense to believe Jeyne would go to Braavos and never even encounter Arya. We also know GRRM intended for the Stark direwolves to go against Ramsay's hounds at some point in the future of which there's about nine named ones so far. Sounds like Ramsay will find out what wolves to do dogs ;) That may be enough to overwhelm Ghost or Shaggydog even if together but even a fraction of Nymeria's pack going north with her could handle them. I also refuse to believe Lady Stoneheart will die again before encountering a resurrected Jon. There's been rumors she and her men have been seen disappearing into the Neck which did lead to in book speculation the BWB has some contact with the Crannogmen. Arya can also be a bridge between Bran and Jon if GRRM keeps the estrangement between them.

And I really want Roose to find out he was in fact careless with a prize of great worth by not realizing he had the real Arya Stark under his nose in Harrenhal as his cupbearer lol. It'd be a shame if he died before finding out. But I do agree that she could go to either location and GRRM could make it work. I seem to remember jokes about GRRM being stuck because there are too many locations he wants her to be in lol.

I didn't think you were implying that, I just wanted to clarify that there were valid reasons for her heading to the riverlands and that I agree that some people only theorize that because they view the North as the most important location so they ignore her connections to it. I agree with a lot of your points and it's very frustrating that Arya's arc gets reduced so much because people refuse to see her as an important character. A majority of the theories surrounding her are the barest bones and people only expect her to leave the faceless men, kill [x] character, and then fuck off in a boat while her siblings (i.e. Sansa) carry the bulk of the Northern plot. The reality is that Arya's arc is difficult to predict because she has so many plot setups. There is an entire arc in Braavos waiting to play out, she has connections to the Northern plot, and she has plenty to do in the Riverlands. Arya is one of George's favorite characters and he's spent a lot of time developing her for a reason, so safe to say that whatever route he ends up taking it's going to be well-written and respectful to her character.

Ok I’m probably not the best person to say this, but I’ve been seeing a lot of (as of right now) accurate insults on how the CGI approach for the Live Action Little Mermaid movie, but please be mindful that you don’t take things too far, and *especially* don’t start going after Halle Bailey (Ariel’s actress) and to a lesser extent, Ariel the character.

Antiblackness is still an issue in a lot of fandom spaces, and it doesn’t just come out as using nasty slurs or stereotypes. It manifests as drawing Black characters lighter and/or with more white features, it comes out as removing Black partners from ships, and it starts out as plausibly deniable insults that get the door open to microaggressions and outright nasty comments.

I’m not saying that all discussion of the movie should be stalled, or even if it turns out to be an artistic failure, that it doesn’t merit discussion. I’m saying that you shouldn’t extend your vitriol to the characters and actors.

If you really feel the need to insult her, it might be worth a little introspection. Ask yourself, “Do I resent that they changed Ariel, or that they changed Ariel in this way?”. You’re not irredeemable if your personal answer isn’t kind. Just be more careful, try and observe how that sort of world view affects your behavior to others, and then course correct.

A lot of little kids would love to see another Black Princess. A lot of little kids would love to have a Black mermaid as a main character. Hell, a lot of adults would love those too. Black fantasy characters have long been excluded, transformed, killed, merely in the background, relegated to stereotypes, villainized and have hardly ever in the spotlight, especially in major productions.

Don’t make it harder for kids (and adults!) to see themselves on screen. Don’t ruin their wonder. So don’t make unkind comments. Keep it to yourself. Frankly, Halle looks beautiful, and I can’t wait to see the sparkles in her fans’ eyes as she swims across the screen.

Morrow #one of the main characters Effie works as a Renaissance Faire mermaid and she talks a lot about #how people write fiction about her character but whitewash her or body swap her or would rather do self inserts #or the only comments made about her beauty are just about her tail and never about her Black skin or features #and how she (and her Mom before her death) were usually the only Black characters at the fair #and how she feels so beautiful and incredible being her mermaid self #also again I’m white so I don’t have personal experience but my younger brother is mixed #and he’s always been really lowkey about his feelings but #I took him to see Into the Spiderverse when it first came out #and he’s loved it since #here was this (adorable - don’t tell my brother I said that lol) lanky smart awkward hurting courageous Black boy on screen #and I can see in his heart how he’s been affected by it. he’s not a super fan or anything but I can just tell (big sister thing.) Anyways I #really hope that joy will happen more and more for everyone.

okay though, i am sort of dying over the izzy’s like a little kid who feels like his friend was stolen away comment from con as much as i am the he’s too emotionally immature to identify love (and call it such) one.

the love thing is like... i think sometimes when we talk about izzy and love we end up at cross-purposes because we’ve all got a different working definition of love, and i’ve always fallen into the bluest eye camp where love is never any better than the lover; so izzy can love, in his izzy way, and not have it resemble any healthy definition of love on EARTH.

which is why it’s so perfect he never labels it? izzy doesn’t do any honest introspection! if he did, he wouldn’t be fuckin izzy. so he just feels things, surges and ebbs of something he won’t name. dude’s got this ugly, thorny thicket in his chest, and to reach his own heart he’d have to thrust his hands inside the ugliest, sharpest parts and then own them, get to know them, and call them his own.

izzy’s not emotionally mature: his love is nameless and childish.

which is why the kid thing is perfect? because the way izzy deals with ed trying to change and stede... existing, the reaction of a child: they stole my friend. they broke his brain, they changed him; he’s mine, and they can’t have him.

( ‘that bitch stole my man’; not NOT an adult version of this same logical fallacy. )

because the adult truth is people do not get stolen. they make choices and new connections, and nobody cast a terrible spell over them to turn them into someone new: they just liked those people too. and it’s entirely normal to feel jealous and possessive over a friend, or long for people to be what we want them to be so they can love us like we want them to love us.

but lucius is the one who actually has that one right: people in love don’t own each other. nobody stole our man or our friend, and acting like they did does a disservice to everybody involved.

#look i know fandom Disc Horse tends to get... weirdly processed #so writing about why a character is not good at something or needed improvement or fucked up gets taken as being negative #we like us a compliment sandwich at best!#and then that crosses into weird binaries like 'if you hate the white guy so much shut up about it'#but this show crafted fucked up lil guys of varying flavors on purpose!#discussing their flaws isn't an exercise in negativity imo #but rather engaging earnestly #i really do not think the answer to the general izzy weirdness is 'shut up about izzy' but rather 'tilt the angles of examination'#or stede and fatherhood etc #because the ways in which these characters fail and fall short and fuck up is BEAUTIFUL #it's a growth narrative! ed and stede both needed to do personal development work #i love them for growing! i don't scorn them for needing to #i just feel like the point of the show is in part about being kind and honest at once #and how honesty lacking kindness is a problem but so is kindness lacking honesty #one is cruelty in a loud way: the other a slow poison #anyway i just really love these writers and the world they created

#so my secret opinion here now that i've read this is the show was not only a great adaptation #but a superior telling of the story because i actually FELT the love and magnetism between the characters that i think was rather lacking #on the page #not only in regards to daisy and billy but with the entire band and with simone #and i really like the changes they made and the way they fleshed everyone out #it just worked much better for me. the ending landed harder too #because this story isn't one love story it's several all tangled together #and i MUCH prefer daisy's path in the show too...just the whole story coalesced in such a beautiful way #but i'm still glad i read this and i smiled that they put this monologue #and the “whatever made daisy burn made me burn” part in the show #maybe tjr and i just don't click well bc you know how i felt about that other book of hers (djats was better for me overall)#anyway of her writing this is my favorite passage and the most ts-coded #words #love for you is like a religion

TDI Advice wanted!

Hi TD fans! I'm planning a rewrite of TDI, the cast will be 18 for in-universe reasons (think legal contracts, I'm not gonna be weird about them). I'm aiming to make it more realistic and in line with the 2007 aesthetic, i.e era appropriate lingo & references, mobile phones are rare, homophobia is a bigger concern etc, but I'm wondering how far I should take it?

In the end I'll write what I enjoy, but should I lean more heavily into the gritty side of reality TV both on and behind the screen, include more notable sexism, potential slurs and creepy behaviours etc? The point is for there to be believable drama in-universe and the topics planned all have some merit to be present. I have some hard lines I'll never cross (see last tags on the post for those curious) and I want people familiar with the themes to feel seen rather than exploited reading it.

At the end of the day the cast are just youngsters getting to know each other and themselves. I want to humanize them and write believable conflicts without demonizing anyone, it is intended as a character driven story after all. But I also want to know what others think would make for an enjoyable read/take on the show.

The cast will inevitably diverge from their canon counterparts, but I am unsure how to handle certain characters, an example being LeShawna. She's clearly based on a racist stereotype, but her personality, background and lingo are a huge part of her appeal and I'd rather portray her in a better light than change her from the ground up. If you have any pointers I can keep in mind for her or anyone else you think is often portrayed poorly in canon or fanon then please let me hear your takes! This goes for non-TDI castmates as well, even if they don't show up in the story I wanna know what people think does and doesn't work for them and their tropes/traits cause it might still be relevant!

not to get on my soup box and be all preachy or whatever but for me it's a red flag if you have in your rules you won't write with ocs of any kind at all because you've had a few bad experiences. like if those people had been writing canon character you still would have had a bad time my friend. don't all group us together like that.

stammer as the tailor from gent’s playbook, very reserved, quiet, with an excellent eye for details (honestly the evidence i have for his style sense is just that he’s best friends with pk subban so it has to be there somewhere if only by proxy irl) is hired by victor hedman, star of the tampa bay lightning who is every other tailor’s nightmare to dress (huge, opinionated, fashionable)

heddy is decently well-known throughout the league for being very well-dressed & becomes quietly well known for also being one of his new tailor’s favorite loyal customers [heddy has the nicest fabrics. he has his suits the first day a new collection drops & e v e r y o n e is jealous]

stammer’s business booms after heddy takes a chance on him as his first big client & promotes him, heddy sees him grow in popularity & get more clients

heddy also moonlights as a model for stammer’s suits on instagram, initially to help him grow his business because then he won’t have to pay for a model and then because he’s over there all the time anyway because they’re dating (that’s why the model’s face is never in the pictures)

there’s not really a plot to this besides the vague idea of a plot where stammer makes heddy his lucky suit that he wins the cup in & sews a special little tag into the lining of his jacket that says i love you

because love sometimes is picking out the perfect right color pocket square to match your husband’s beautiful suit that you fitted like a kiss to the curves of his huge body

& also sometimes love is making your beautiful husband who makes you beautiful clothing enjoy nice things for himself once in a while, like the fancy watch you bought him or the nice suit you custom-ordered for him (from him) just so you could take it off of him

For the life of him, Randall didn’t understand why anyone gave her anything. Although she liked some of the more expensive jewels and furs she’d been given, if it wasn’t up to her ridiculous standards, she wasn’t afraid to make her displeasure known-if the chocolate wasn’t made by the finest Belgian chocolatiers or the champagne didn’t come straight from France, she was unafraid to spit it out. If the flowers were not a color or scent she preferred, she had no issue crushing them underfoot. And woe betide anyone who gave her any piece of jewelry she deemed “cheap”-it would be scattered into a thousand pieces on the floor in no time.

“She’s a nightmare, that woman,” he huffed with a shake of his head, having told Emily some of these horror stories. “Why anyone would bother giving anything to her is beyond me-if she’s just going to screech and throw it at their heads if it’s not to her liking, why bother?”

Did she always throw things like a cranky, ill-mannered child when she didn’t like them? Did she throw whole plates of food or bowls of soup at some hapless waiter when she dined out? He didn’t want to know, frankly, and he pitied anyone who had to put up with her when she was going on a terror. At least he could somewhat curb these fits when she was in the opera house-everyone outside of it was, unfortunately, at her (absent) mercy.

Incredible just how much more people liked me for including, and valued my inclusion of, the disabilities/queer/neurodivergent stuff I wrote before they knew I was those things myself.

#writing #I think about this a lot. because of course it happened. it happens to /everyone/ who is and does write that. but it’s so stupid and so #fucking unfair??? oh so it was awesome I was writing cool mentally ill characters and giving rep until people found out I /was/ also #mentally ill and writing rep for my own people? why is it more valuable if a strait bitch is writing someone queer than if one of our own i #(it’s not. but god do people think it is and act like it is)#when people think you’re a straight white cis abled mentally well neurotypical everything you include is a #groundbreaking boon and wonderful and its great to be seen and here are your trophies for doing SO well at being inclusive!!#but the second people realize you’re not instead you’re work becomes Eh what did you expect? at best and more often it’s an open invitation #to be scrutinized for every imaginable flaw in rep like you’re in court for gross misconduct #what the fuck is with that? it’s great when strangers care enough to pretend to know you?#but when your own feel such self love for their communities they want to sing it’s beauty to the world #it’s worth little and an open invitation to attack us for not being the best version of what we did for every single individual at the same #time? have you internalized such self hatred that you turn it outward at anyone like you to feel safe and can only feel valued if people wh #willl never really know what it’s like to be you at all are the ones saying you’re worth writing about?
