This is why you don’t keep wildlife, folks. This baby Eastern Screech-Owl was rescued from Floyd after being found and kept by someone for weeks and was encouraged by others online to keep this bird rather than take it to a rehabber. Sadly, this little owlet had a badly fractured wing — this injury could have been surgically fixable if the bird had been brought to us when it was found. However, because the bird had been kept from medical attention for so long, the bone was dead and there was no longer a way to fix this very painful wing injury.
People, we know wild animals are cute, cool, and getting the chance to be with one up close is an amazing and unforgettable experience. We know it is tempting to keep them and take it on yourself. We all think we are capable and that we know what’s best — it is just human nature. But the reason why we ask people to bring wildlife to us is not out of greed or because we feel we know more than you, but because every week we see what happens when people try to take matters in to their own hands. Imagine what it is like to receive animals that you know you could have saved if people had brought the animal to you when it was healthy. It’s hard to keep a straight face some days.
Call us. We’re here to help you. Don’t let your ego get in the way of what is right for the animal. Without our existence, we know thousands more would needlessly suffer because of people DYI-ing rehab at home.
Be a hero. Make the call even if you don’t want to. A life may depend on it.

BOTD: Eastern Screech-Owl
Tumblr media
Photo: Forest Botial-Jarvis
"This robin-sized nightbird is common over much of the east, including in city parks and shady suburbs, where many human residents are unaware they have an owl for a neighbor. The owl spends the day roosting in holes or in dense cover, becoming active at dusk. Despite the name, screech-owls do not screech; the voice of this species features whinnies and soft trills."

Battle Royale
SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEE (F-2)
These birds of prey don't really play nice with others, so we had to separate them out into their own battle.

@dysfunctionalburden *Yeets this at you* gaze upon the shenanigans your tags have inspired (and thank you for the inspiration, I hope you don't mind me running a marathon with it).
It is. far removed from the plot of Iced Tracks in several ways, though, I will say. Brain just. took it and bolted. And now this happened.
Anyway, one other thing -- this makes my 21st published work on AO3! Thank you all so, so much for reading my works and giving feedback -- you have all been wonderful readers, and thank you so much for your support! <3
Happy reading, beloved reader beans!

Honestly be pretentious as fuck about the stuff you create. Do a press release for your fanfic updates. Do a Q&A about your webcomic. Make fake merch designs for your OCs. Commission "official" book covers. Very few of us will ever get to a stage where something we've created Makes It Big but even if you have an audience of 5 people plus a shoelace fucking indulge yourself and pretend!! It's the only way to live!!

hey, here’s the deal (we’re back in business) Chapter Two: you’re such a big mess (and i love you)
AO3
reblogs are highly appreciated, and please do not repost my art
The portal works, and Marcy stands in Newtopia.
Or, well, where Newtopia used to be. It’s still a huge mess, and the castle is still lopsided over on a different island, but still. Newtopia.
She’s standing in a more repaired part of the city- sorta near where the castle used to be but far enough from where it ripped itself out of the ground that it’s not too badly damaged- having just stepped through Terri’s portal (and Terri is SO COOL) into Amphibia. Anne and Sasha have already gone through their own portals, Anne destined for Wartwood and Sasha for the remains of the southern Toad Tower. She’d wanted to meet up with Grime, but unlike the Plantars or Olivia and Yunan, they really couldn’t be sure where the old captain would be, but Sasha had said it was a good start. Toads were really stubborn and they probably would’ve tried to rebuild the tower by now.
So they were there, and Marcy was here. Looking for Olivia and Yunan, who would probably be together.
Marcy wonders if they’re married yet.
She turns to look at the horizon (the blue, blue sky and the lush green mountains, so unlike LA), and, well, looks like she ended up basically right exactly where she landed in Amphibia the first time! Though she hasn’t fallen down any stairs yet. Probably would be a good idea to avoid that.
“All right,” Marcy hums, hand on her chin, “if I was the king’s former royal advisor and top general, where would I be if the castle got destroyed?” She scans the city and thinks about that. Olivia usually did a lot of paperwork, and Yunan was in charge of a lot of people as a general, so…
“The royal offices!” Marcy snaps her fingers as it comes to her. “Of course! If you’re putting together a new government ‘cause the old one failed ‘cause the king betrayed everyone, you gotta do a lot of paperwork!” And the offices should still be standing because they were on a lower tier of the city and not in the castle itself. Yeah! They should be there, and if they’re not, someone there will probably know. And she’s Marcy Wu, Chief Ranger! People know her! She can probably get some directions there.
