Summary: a normal Sunday can become the best day of your life in a few moments

Ralf and you had a relationship that for anyone went further than that of a driver and his engineer. The connection between you and him was undeniable, and it was a matter of time before you ended up completely in love with each other.

Normally, you used to hide your crush on the guy pretty well. You focused on being professional with your work, even if from time to time you couldn't help but incessantly flirt with each other. But so far, you had managed to keep the secret well. On the other hand and unlike you, Ralf did not make any effort to hide his feelings for you, and also, he did everything possible so that you and anyone around you knew how much he liked you.

Your day to day work in the races consisted of Ralf following you around the Paddock like an abandoned puppy desperately asking you to accept a date with him and you ignoring him and rejecting him as best you could, since it was a little difficult for you to say no to something so adorable . But despite the no's and your evasions, Ralf wasn't going to give up on you.

Who would tell him his golden opportunity came on any given Sunday. And who would tell him that that Sunday would become one of the most important days of his life.

The day had started like any other race Sunday. Your routine was the same as always, you working and Ralf chasing you to ask you again to go on a date with him or to drop some ridiculous compliment that occurred to him. Even though he annoyed you sometimes, you actually liked having him around. Finally he left you alone when they called him to get in the car because the race would start shortly. You were also prepared for it. You did the usual radio check with Ralf and a few minutes later the race started. You didn't know why, call it instinct or something like that, but you had the feeling that something different would happen today, you didn't know if it was bad or good, but you prayed that everything would be fine. A few laps later, almost at the end of the race, you had to assume that your instincts weren't wrong, because Ralf had managed to get into first place during this time and was now leading the race on p1.

“Okay, Ralf, there are three laps left, you are in P1, you are doing great. Keep pushing” you communicated with him through the radio.

"Okay" Ralf's response was short and concise.

You almost ate your own fingers during the three remaining laps that were left, you communicated with Ralf a few more times to inform him how the car was going and so on, but you decided to leave him alone, it was his chance to win and he needed to concentrate as much as possible.

And finally the moment arrived, Ralf had crossed the checkered flag in first place. He had won the race and you couldn't help the treacherous tears that came out of your eyes. You celebrated with the team briefly and turned the radio back on with Ralf to congratulate him on the great victory.

"Ralf, congratulations. You have done wonderfully well today. Congratulations, I'm so proud of you” your words sounded political, even though all you really wanted was to shout how much you loved him and jump into his arms as soon as he got out of the car. But you had to keep your composure.

“Thank you y/n. Thanks. Couldn't have done it without you and the team. But above all without you” his voice sounded broken by a mixture between the lack of air due to effort and crying due to emotion.

"We make a good team, Ralf, enjoy the victory, you've earned it hard" you told him.

Ralf didn't know if it was the euphoria for the victory or the affection with which you pronounced his name on the radio, but he gave him all the impetus he needed to try something again.

"Maybe you should come with me on a date, you know, I deserve a reward for doing so well in the race, right?" Ralf lost all confidence in himself as soon as he dropped the question, but it didn't matter, he was too happy about everything and he wanted to take a chance once more.

You smiled at Ralf's proposal and were going to reject him again, but you thought twice. You liked Ralf and you had been holding him back for too long. Fuck it, you were too euphoric about today's events, so this time you didn't think about it anymore and went back to talking on the radio.

“The date had better be a good one, Aron. Don't make me regret accepting."

The last thing heard on the radio was Ralf's excited scream, which made everyone in the garage who heard it laugh.
