Deputies in a Dark Reign
Tumblr media
Little bit more blurry, and this time by m-o-u-r-i
Again, this is NOT to scale of one another.

--Hoot, Snow, and Rosebranch are she-cats, Goldengaze and Frogstreak are toms.
--Aside from Hoot, all designs are taken from @ambitiousauthor who wrote their descriptions in Gorsedaisy's Nightmare (also seen in Rainstar's Burden). Rose was listed as a calico, so I decided to be creative with it. I also added a scar to Snowpad.
--Snowpad had to stay in the medicine den for a long time after she received her injury, and many were skeptical that she would have survived. She has problems with memory and concentration, though thankfully is better at planning (which can also be affected if injured in the area that she was).
After her injury, Snowpad's personality changed. She became more impulsive, and less able to hold back bursts of emotion. In spite of this, she proved herself and became the deputy, later leader. Her own deputy was a friend and former apprentice of hers that helped her figure out methods to aid her memory and concentration.
Gatherings are tough for her due to the impulsivity and bursts of emotions bit, but with effort and hard work, she works around it--it is not completely gone, she cannot magically make it go away when she needs it to, but she can better direct it in a way that is not as harmful as it could be.
It's kind of hard to see, but Snowpad is all white with lighter paws!
--After Rainstar, Rosebranch was the first to become leader.
--Frogstreak was leader for seven moons before he passed. He was still young and wanted to prove himself, so when senior warriors and elders voiced their doubts, he lead the Clan into battle (likely for Sunningrocks, as it was the old territories).
Edit:
What if the senior warriors and/or elders that talked badly about Frogstar's leadership were friends of his late father and he wanted to impress them, wanted to make them proud, and in doing so it got him killed
There were injuries, but nothing beyond scars. That is, until the fourth fight in, when Frogstreak's throat was slashed in a wound too big to come back from.
--Goldengaze is very serious all the time. A huge buzzkill.
--Hoot :3

"Why do you visit us alone, Turtlestar?"
Turtlestar recognizes the she-cat in front of her from the last time she had visited the Moonstream. On that fateful night, only twelve moons ago, the river had been blazing with the light of the waning gibbous as it gleamed off the current. Silversong had greeted her with stars sparkling in her eyes and moonlight weaving through her fur. Now, tonight, the moon is just a thin crescent setting on the horizon, and the Moonstream is dark. Silversong is but a pale apparition floating over the water.
Turtlestar bows her head. “I come before StarClan tonight to ask that… that you may rescind my nine lives, and give them to my deputy, Fawnspot. Name them Fawnstar in my stead.”
A moment of tense silence, and then, “Why should we do that?”
“I'm not fit to be SpruceClan's leader," Turtlestar replies. "It is… destroying me, and I’m afraid that it may destroy my Clan in the process."
A murmur rises up before her. She lifts her head to see more spirits have joined them, staring at her from behind Silversong. In the darkness, their forms blend together, faces bleeding into more faces until they're unrecognizable. She can't make out any eyes, but she can feel the weight of their stares, their disapproval heavy on her exhausted shoulders. She feels pinned down, small, cowering there alone on the river stone.
“It is not every day that a cat receives eight additional lives from StarClan,” Silversong says. “Do you doubt the gifts we gave you?”
“No, I just — I’m not worthy of them,” Turtlestar chokes out. She hangs her head in defeat. “Please. I’m trying to do what’s best for my Clan. And what’s best for my Clan is not me.”
Her pelt burns: with shame, with guilt, with humiliation. Only twelve moons, and she has come crawling back, knelt down and begging to be relieved of the duty that any other cat would be honored to have. As painful as this is, she knows that withstanding a single more day of this burden would be more than she could bear.
"Very well," Silversong says. She looks down at Turtlestar, eyes glinting like ice. "Let the ceremony commence."
A new cat emerges from the formless mass of ghosts. Rainstar, the leader of SpruceClan before her, steps towards Turtlestar and dips his head. Her mentor, her friend, and her predecessor — he had believed in her when even she herself didn't. His eyes are downturned and somber as he says, "There is no coming back from this. Are you sure you would like to begin, Turtlestar?"
She nods wordlessly, and he sighs. "For your ninth life, I gave you the gift of judgment. Now, I will revoke it.”
Rainstar leans forward and touches his nose to her forehead, and a terrible hollowing sensation pangs through her chest. It feels like the life is being sucked out of her, leaving her empty, shaking and weak. She feels a piece of herself missing, somewhere nestled next to her heart, where now nothing but a small, gaping hole resides, and she knows that hole will only get punched bigger and bigger over the course of the night. He pulls away and watches her, green eyes shadowed in the darkness, before he melts back into the crowd.
The press of the water-slick stone beneath her paws is grounding, now. She digs her claws in and pants, chest heaving, as she regains her bearings, head spinning and heart racing. The ghostly mass of StarClan cats hovers over the water, silent and watchful. Like the loss of her ninth life was an actual death, and this is her final judgment. But she still has seven more lives to lose tonight, and seven more final judgments to endure.
Another cat approaches. Sageleaf, a former SpruceClan medicine cat who had died when Turtlestar was still a kit, too young to remember them, but old enough to hear their stories. The cat eyes her flatly, face too stoic to betray any emotions. “I gave you your eighth life in honor of making difficult choices. I see it has been put to good use. Now, I will remove it.”
The cats come and go, and matter less and less each time. In between the terrible, bone-deep ache of each life lost, their words somehow still reach her, penetrating through the fog.
“I gave you your seventh life for loyalty.”
“Your sixth life was given for integrity.”
“Forgiveness.”
“Duty.”
“Confidence.”
Finally, as Turtlestar stands hunched over and trembling with exhaustion, Silversong steps to the front once more. She eyes Turtlestar coldly. “For your second life, I had given you perseverance. Now, I will take it back." She presses her nose to Turtlestar's forehead, hard, unforgiving, and it feels as though the warmth is leaving her limbs.
Silversong pulls back, but doesn’t retreat. “You will remain known as Turtlestar, as a reminder of the lives you once had. You may not be leader of SpruceClan any longer, but may your experiences forever remain in your memories and guide you for the rest of your days.” Now, she steps back. “Have a good life, Turtlestar.”
Turtlestar watches as the thin crescent moon finally slips below the horizon, and StarClan fades away. She is left standing alone on the stepping stones, a shivering wreck in the darkness with only the rushing of water for company.

Rainstar, formerly Rainstrike, is the ambitious leader of DelugeClan. Ever since his kithood, he has been told that he was blessed by the stars and would rise above during hardship. Perhaps he truly was destined for greatness as he ended up surviving The Calamity, a violent storm that destroyed his home and left him as the leader of a ragtag group of survivors. He doesn't doubt his skills, but being forced to rely solely on himself due to his either extremely young Clanmates or aged ones is a heavy burden.
Before his life fell apart at the threads, he took a warm shelter extremely for granted. Now, outside of surviving the coming trials, he longs for a comfortable den rather than an abandoned nest perched in a tree. Alas he is the leader of the Clan and the only middle aged cat. His needs come last to his Clanmate's.

Cold Vigil (short bonus story)
“Is she going to be okay?” Rabbitstar asked, guilt worming beneath his pelt like maggots on a forgotten prey-pile.
“Of course she will be,” Coldwater, his medicine cat, replied. “She’s only got a cold.”
“From sitting vigil all night in leaf-bare.” Rabbitstar could hiss at himself. Of course he was stupid enough to give Whitewhisper her warrior name when it was so cold. She should have stayed inside her den, warm and safe instead of sitting outside alone, where the snow could sting her skin and make her sick. “I should have waited for a better time.”
“Yes, and delayed the ceremony for the rest of the season,” Coldwater mewed sarcastically. Her blunt words helped to make her leader feel better. “The day was the hottest that it had been for some time. The cold night was unexpected.”
Rabbitstar shrugged. He knew that she was right, but he didn’t really feel it. “What does she need?”
“Warmth,” Coldwater told him.
Considering, Rabbitstar walked a few steps closer to where Whitewhisper lay shivering and asleep in her nest. He stepped inside and joined her, curling as much of his slim frame as he could around her body.
“That’s nice,” Coldwater said, “but you’re the leader, you have duties–”
“I think we both know that right now I have nothing better to do than walk around camp or sit in my nest,” Rabbitstar responded. “I take care of my warriors, right now, one of them needs me.” Without the invitation for further argument, he settled his head down on the mossy nest next to Whitewhisper’s head, pushing as much of it towards the parts of her that were still exposed to the chilly air as he could.

Nine Lives (Rainstar's Burden)
Everything was silent. Every hair still, every mouth gaping open in awe as the three cats stared at the glowing Moonstone. Its light illuminated the cavern in a silver-blue glow.
It occurred to Rainbur that since Cedarsky had only recently chosen to become Shadowclan’s medicine cat, all three cats were seeing this wonder for the first time.
The stone before them was glowing with the light of Starclan, even if the source was of the moon. Rainbur couldn’t help but wonder, as he stared at the brightness, if his ancestors were staring right back from within.
At last, he realized that he should touch his nose to it before the moon shifted and the light was gone. He padded forward until he was a whisker away, then crouched low. Breath quickening, he pressed his muzzle against the Moonstone before he could hesitate any further, holding back a flinch as the freezing surface numbed his snout.
At first, nothing seemed amiss. Then Rainbur noticed that the black spots behind his eyelids were spreading like thin tendrils, bending and twisting together until his vision was plunged into utter blackness.
Were they rejecting him?
Had it not been a vision Houndpaw had had after all?
Was he not good enough to lead Shadowclan?
A drop, like a white spider web dangling in the center of his eyes. Rainbur blinked. When had he opened his eyes? The string grew, trodding gracefully, and others began to sink through the air and to the ground as well, where they too grew in a gentle dance.
As the outlines neared, their details became more obvious. They were cats! Rainbur could hardly resist a gasp. Their ears, whiskers, tails, they were all too clear to be mistaken for anything else, and Rainbur felt foolish for thinking them as simple strings.
His heart pounded. So many eyes were suddenly on him as they circled, blocking him in. Would he have felt such judgment if he were becoming leader under different circumstances? If the leader before him had not promised to Starclan to lead well only to turn around and murder his own Clanmates? They still gave him nine lives in spite of the horrors he had inflicted. Would they now decide to spurn Rainbur of any? Would they see Shadowclan as too unfit for anyone to lead?
“Breathe,” a voice whispered softly. Rainbur would have thought that it was a trick of the mind as a breeze passed his ear, but the air was still. He looked around the starry pelts, mind dizzy with the amount of cats that were watching him, until someone stepped forward.
Outside of the ranks of what must be at least several dozen silver pelts, the cat’s colour became clearer. “Mom!” Rainbur gasped. His throat tightened all too quickly, blocking all he wanted to say to his lost kin.
But his mother smiled warmly at him, as if she heard it all anyway. “My darling kit,” she said quietly, “you have been through so much grief, yet you’ve done more for the Clan that even you realize.” She leaned forward, touching her nose to Rainbur’s head. “With this life, I give you bravery. May you carry it in your heart as you do I, always.”
Rainbur’s eyes stung, but not because his head felt like it was going to split open. Oatflight still smelt as she did when he would nurse at her belly. He wished so much that he could retreat back to those peaceful days, where all he would worry about was if he won the next came of mouse-catch. But he wasn’t a kit anymore. He was a warrior, he was going to be Shadowclan’s leader. He would not hurt them as Alderstar or Myrtlewing did. He would stand between his Clanmates and anyone or anything that dared think it could hurt them, even at the cost of all nine of his lives.
All too soon, Oatflight stepped away and disappeared in the crowd. Rainbur’s heart sank, but it lifted again when the next cat stepped forward. “Never thought I would see the day,” Owlfang sniffed good-heartedly.
Rainbur swallowed past a massive lump. “You…You look happy.” His last memory of his brother had been of a dug-up rotting corpse with worms for eyes. It was hard to believe that he was looking at that same brother now, not alive but clearly healthy and at peace.
Owlfang nodded. “I am now. You will be, too. I promise you that.” He touched his muzzle to Rainbur’s head. “With this life, I give you endurance. Know that Shadowclan will be at peace one day, and have the strength to lead them to that certainty. I am proud of you, brother.”
“I..I..” Rainbur wanted to speak, to say how he wished he had protected Owlfang, how he missed him so much, but his chest was on fire and for a few moments that felt like an eternity, he could focus on nothing but the flames within his ribcage. The sparks spread throughout his entire body, fueling his muscles until he felt as though he could climb any mountain, fight any beast, so long as Shadowclan could reach that era of peace.
A third cat was already in front of him when the power of that life faded. Rainbur’s heart sank at the little one before him. He had to bend down to level with her.
“Hi, Rainbur!” Fernpaw purred. “It’s an honour to be giving you a life today.”
But you shouldn’t be giving me a life. You should be in camp right now, sorting through herbs and rhyming the plants until you made a song. Rainbur wondered if she still sang little tunes in Starclan, or if Myrtlewing took that joy from her too. “It’s an honour to be receiving a life from you,” Rainbur replied out loud.
“Then let’s get to it then.” Fernpaw pressed her nose against his cheek. “With this life, I give you loyalty. May it motivate you to protect those you love and those who love you, and may it never lead you astray for the sake of anyone but your Clan.” There was a shadow over Fernpaw’s eyes. She was thinking of her mentor, the one she had cared for so deeply. The one who had murdered her for the sake of someone else.
The shadow loomed over Rainbur, tightening around his entire body until he couldn’t move his lungs. He gasped for air, desperate for it, and right when he was sure he was about to pass out, the weight lifted and he drank in every breath with relief.
“Steady,” a she-cat advised. Rainbur whirled around. He planted his paws firmly in the ground, using every muscle in his legs to resist racing toward the cat.
Dawnmoth, his adoptive daughter, looked at him with a twinkle in her eye. “Hi dad.”
“H-hi.” Was all he could say back.
Chuckling, Dawnmoth padded forward until her whiskers flattened against the side of his muzzle. “With this life, I give you hope. Give it to your Clanmates as you gave it to me when my father died, and use it for yourself to lead them through any hardship.”
The stinging pain seared through Rainbur’s skin like an icicle. But it didn’t feel like an invasion, instead it was a shield that surrounded his heart, protecting it from anything that could weigh it down. It wasn’t lost on him that every life that he had so far received had mentioned something about putting his Clanmates above everything else. He wondered if every ceremony included such words, or if it was only his because of Alderstar.
Dawnmoth pulled back. Rainbur forced the pain down enough to be able to lift his head and meet her eyes. “I miss you,” she told him. “Tell Silverwhisker to name one of her kits after me, alright?”
“I don’t think I have to tell her.” Rainbur smiled.
Dawnmoth turned and padded back into the crowd. The cat beside her took her place, walking forward and pressing his chin to Rainbur’s head before any words could be exchanged between them. That was always Branchfoot’s way.
“With this life,” he father spoke, “I give you conscientiousness. Trust yourself to know in your heart what needs to be done, and use your power as leader to accomplish it.”
“I will,” Rainbur promised. There was no pain this time, only a warm presence like a nuzzle on every part of his body. He waited patiently for the next cat, and it wasn’t long before he was facing her.
His brilliant apprentice, Pineshade. “You have come so far,” she murmured. “I’m proud to have been your apprentice.”
“And I your mentor.”
Pineshade purred. Leaning, she rubbed her cheek along his. “With this life, I give you courage. Use it as you fight every battle, from war to a thorn in your pad, and use it especially whenever you doubt yourself.”
Rainbur felt his muscles rippling beneath his pelt. He wanted to face every shadow, every fang, every claw and dare it to hurt anyone he loved.
“Trust yourself. You will be a wonderful leader,” Pineshade assured him.
“He will,” someone agreed.
Rainbur’s heart warmed with love and ached with loss. “My love,” he whispered sadly.
“Oh, don’t give me your tears,” Blossomtuft rolled her eyes playfully. “You’re supposed to be a big strong leader now, remember.” She pressed her nose against his with such strength that Rainbur knew she, too, was resisting curling her whole body around him and never letting go. “With this life, I give you humour. Use it when everything seems bleak as the light through the darkness, because sometimes it is all we have and all we need.”
She kept her muzzle against his throughout the power of her life. It was Rainbur that had to, after a while, pull back. “I will see you again, dear,” Blossomtuft promised him.
Rainbur watched her leave, eyes stinging once more, before turning his attention to the next cat.
Amberthistle was smiling at him as lovingly as Blossomtuft. Blossomtuft had died of sickness around the same time Amberthistle and her mate had separated. In their heartbreak, Amberthistle and Rainbur got together, raising their daughters as sisters.
“Dear..” Rainbur murmured.
“Hello, love,” Amberthistle replied softly. “Don’t worry, I know I won’t be your mate when you join us. It’s okay, I’ll love you still.” She pressed her chin to his snout. “With this life, I give you love. Let it power your every muscle and motivate your every action. And in the rainiest of days, let it allow you to see the sun.”
By the time the life faded, Rainbur was struggling to stand. He tried to count in his head how many lives were left, but it felt cracked and broken around his skull.
“Rainbur” an unfamiliar she-cat’s voice spoke, as clear as a thought within his own head. He turned to the side to see a tall, unfamiliar black she-cat with bright green eyes. “I am Shadowstar,” she greeted. “The first leader of Shadowclan.”
Rainbur gaped, hardly able to process who was looking at him, talking to him.
“You have such a burden on your shoulders, but I trust you are the leader that Shadowclan needs.” With that, she touched her chin to his ear. “With this life, I give you forgiveness. Forgive your Clanmates for the mistakes they make. Forgive yourself for things you cannot take back. Forgive the past when it haunts your mind, and forgive the future when all it seems to hold is darkness.”
A warm, honey-like liquid feeling dripped along Rainbur’s spine, loosening every knot and dispersing every ache, until his entire body felt entirely unburdened and clear.
Shadowstar dripped her head low, then through it to the air as she yowled to the sky. “Rainstar! Rainstar! Rainstar!”
The clearing echoed with thousands of voices, all chanting his name.
“Rainstar!”
“Rainstar!”
“Rainstar!”

You know what? Screw it, showing him early
Tumblr media
Bluefoot was named by @elementaldeityoffood who had the idea of 'Blue' going against 'Red' as in his mentor, Redscar.
Bluefoot was apprenticed to Redscar shortly after Flowerstar became leader, aka shortly after the short canon story where Redscar faked a sign.
Bluekit knew this, but never said anything--that is until Bluefoot was an adult and fell in love with a loner that he would meet up with on his way to the Moonstone.
Redscar told him that Starclan wouldn't approve, and Bluefoot responded that they--and the Clan--also wouldn't approve if they knew that their medicine cat faked a sign.
In spite of having leverage against one another and a very tense period in their lives, Bluefoot and Redscar were close.
Bluefoot is also the late-in-life son of Hazebird! Hazebird had never truly moved on from Blossomtuft's death, but had a kit to ensure the future of the Clan.

Leaders in a Dark Reign
Tumblr media
The leaders who lived and lead at the same time as Alderstar (and also Rainstar)!
Bases are found here: Warrior Cats Allegiances F2U Bases by musewings on DeviantArt (yes they're all for different ranks, but it still fits--plus Hush is short so an apprentice ref fits him). (This is NOT to scale of each other).
- - - -
--They are all toms.
--I'm fairly sure (?) their designs all come from @ambitiousauthor (save for Alder). I got them from their descriptions in Rainstar's Burden.
--Hailstar was the leader to exile Houndtooth. It is seen here, in fact!
--During a battle with Skyclan, Hushstar (then either deputy or a warrior) saved a then-Vinepaw from another RiverClan warrior that was being far too aggressive. Vine and Hush are probably the most civil leaders towards one another, though sometimes things are also tense between them--Vine does not put Hush above SkyClan, even if he did help him moons ago.
--Rabbitstar enjoys comradery immensely. Even as a leader, he joins patrols often, enjoys food and laughs with Clanmates, and on cold nights sleeps with them in the Warriors' den.

I also might make a Clangen for cats following Rainstar's Burden, at least the ones who haven't already had kits to give me some ideas.
Tumblr media
There's more in the Clan like older characters, but these are the ones I could fit and want to explore.
--
Flowerstar is the kit of Elderchirp and Birdsun, therefore a Cedarsky+Mossflake descendant
Rosemouse is Snowstar (the previous leader and leader after Rainstar)'s brother and brother to Tanglebounce and Shiningmoth who is unseen. He is a kit of Silverwhisker and Runningcloud and therefore a descendant of Rainstar.
Bluefoot is the son of Tanglebounce and is Rosemouse's nephew. He has the same ancestors.
He is the deputy, an interesting choice considering Flowerstar killed Snowstar--it was established she felt guilt, and probably chose him because of that.
Olivetree and Mara are both former kittypets while Gladebush was a loner. They were offered a home in the Clan to 1) make up for the murders as much as they could and 2) increase the numbers that had decreased so much (and to avoid inbreeding).
Olivetree refused due to Myrtle and Alder having killed her brother, but then her Twolegs took away her kits. She decided to join the Clan when she had just one left so that she could raise them. That kit is Parsleykit.
Hollyclaw had a son in canon Jumpfoot, but by this point he's dead. While he was alive and an adult, she had more kits with a donor and her mate. Her kits are Fennelpaw and Riftkit.

A cursed family
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Molespots, Echofoot, and their kits!
Fallendust and Fleetsong are the younger litter, while Wolfburn and Ivytooth are the older one!
Wolf and Ivy were planned, Fallen and Fleet weren't ('happy accidents,' you could say). They were born while their siblings were still apprentices.
While Ivy and Wolf are still very close, Fallen and Fleet are definitely the closest sibling relationship of all of them.
Ivy, when she was still young, didn't want the younger kits around her because it wasn't cool to have babies follow you everywhere. She wanted to be 'grown-up,' basically. Wolfpaw, on the other hand, liked being seen as basically this all-knowing cat to them, and he would tell them everything he learned because he liked that they thought it was so cool that he knew that.
Wolfpaw also occasionally lead his two younger siblings in pranks on Ivy.
This isn't to sound like Ivy wasn't fond of her younger littermates. She was. Twice during her apprenticeship when it was incredibly cold, she snuck into the nursery to lay with their mom and them so that they didn't freeze.
Fun fact! Molespots is the only one that wasn't murdered by Alderstar or Myrtlewing. He was also the mentor of Alderstar.

Okay I said I was gonna show it in Rainstar's Burden bbut I can't wait cause my brain is so full (but you can just skip the first one or two paragraphs for now if you'd rather read the story bit)
Elderpaw/chirp got his face scars because he attacked another apprentice, claiming they were over the border (they were only pretty close). He did this because he was furious about his sister's death and took it out on others around him.
Birdpaw was there for him in this time, as they were friends, and that friendship grew to love.
They became mates soon after becoming warriors, and had their litter soon after that.
But Elderchirp began feeling more and more like something was missing. He had known Birdsun since he was an apprentice. He loved her, he knew that, but did he really love her romantically, or was she only a distraction from his loss?
After all, they became mates while they were very young, what if they didn't know what it felt to love someone romantically? And they had kits while also so young, which made Elderchirp feel trapped. Had he ever had the chance to learn who he, himself was?
He didn't like having these thoughts, and to avoid having them--to avoid seeing Birdsun and his kits, which sparked the thoughts--so he would go out to patrol more and more.
He would come across a Thunderclan she-cat on these patrols, and would fall fast for her.
The two became mates for only a few moons, and by the end of the third moon, Elderchirp was certain that it had all been a mistake. He DID love Birdsun, he knew that without a doubt now, and he broke things off with the Thunderclanner.
But it was too late, because Mossfire, his daughter, saw his meetings and told Birdsun, who was heartbroken.
Birdsun broke things off with him, and his three kits now hated him. Even worse, his former Thunderclan mate whom he broke things off with turned out to be carrying his kits--kits that she promised would never know him.

ShadowClan leaders
Tumblr media
This time I used different artist refs since it's pretty hard to find free bases of more than three cats. Alder is probably the most noticeable. (Artists will be linked at the bottom of the post). Again, this is NOT to scale.
==========
--Flowerstar is the only she-cat seen in the line-up!
--The leader before Cuckoostar is known. They are Hailstar, related (littermates, I believe) to ThunderClan's own Hailstar.
==========
--First we have Cuckoostar! He was the leader during Gorsedaisy's Nightmare. He was friends, though not close friends, with Stormfleck, who succeeded him.
--Stormstar chose his son, Aldereyes, to succeed him, because no one else but his own blood was good enough. He didn't appoint his daughter, Hollyclaw, because their relationship was too far tainted by his abusive training, and he figured his son would be easier to mold into the leader that Storm wanted.
Storm was killed by Alder during a harsh storm.
--Alderstar did not choose Rainstar as his successor. Rather, his deputy was Hootpetal. But after both Alderstar and Myrtlewing were revealed to be serial killers, Hootpetal couldn't stand staying home, and left the territories.
Rainbur was chosen by Starclan after a prophecy was sent to WindClan's medicine cat, Houndpaw/hare.
Rainstar's first choice of deputy is currently not known, but they had either died or retired before taking the leader position. The one who did succeed him was Snowstar, his grandson (son to Runningcloud and Silverwhisker).
--Snowstar is a canon character who died of greencough.
--Snowstar's deputy also passed due to greencough, causing the medicine cat, Redscar, to choose Flowerstem, his cousin, as the next leader, faking a sign.
Flowerstar is the kit of Birdsun and Elderchirp. Redscar is the son of Lionfeather and Grassbloom.
--------
Bonus-- if we take the Curse of The Roots idea, Flowerstar was the one to kill Snowstar and Snowstar's deputy, Brightwhisker. However, she is seen in Starclan (gave Tigerstar a life), so if this is true, she was likely an amazing leader and made up for it with the way she lead her Clan.

Medicine Cats in a Dark Reign
Tumblr media
(Not to scale of one another).
RIVER:
--Eelfoot is an elderly tom, who has a tendency towards crankiness. He retired before the start of Rainstar's Burden (likely around the time Dawnflower earned her full name).
--Rainwater is his apprentice, and Dawnflower is hers! Both of them are she-cats.
WIND:

There are and I was just considering doing them next (and maybe medicine cats after that)
Alderstar's deputy = Hootpetal
Vinestar's deputy = Snowpad
Hailstar's deputy = Goldengaze (it was previously Flamespark, but she had died)
Hushstar's deputy = Frogstreak
Rabbitstar's deputy = Rosebranch
