2nd School Semester Tips:
2nd School Semester Tips:
Good Day Parents,
As a grandparent (caregiver) of an elementary child, I understand that you sometimes magically wish the school’s knowledge and/or education for your child would instantly drop in their minds.  That everything in their world (great or small) would just come together for them, and it’s DONE! Because going to school is probably their only job and priority; and WELL, you as an adult have things that you are responsible for on the day to day. AND, believe it or not you do not always want to deal with your child and their stuff. Yadayadayda!J
Fortunately, this would be a great ‘I-wish-tool’ for the family in a perfect world, but that is not our world or our reality. In this life, we have to stay focus PARENTS and press forward in our now reality for our children. Life people Life! This means, be the bigger person and PARENT our children. These little darlings are not only our responsibility, but they are our future with future generational potential. Hey Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, and others in the child’s village, this means you to, Reader. This life is no fairy tale journey, although social media and this world around us will try to make you think different. Put in the work and be that village we had thirty-plus years ago and build true support for our children, including all of the “new-new” with wisdom. The Cycle of Life! J JJ
I wanted to take a moment to share some basic back to school second-semester tips…
Pray, take a moment to share a ‘Positive Word’ with your child/ren to start their day in the Positive. You, their teachers, and the school administrators (librarian & media specialist, cafeteria workers, janitors, secretaries, resource officers, principals, etc.) will greatly appreciate the child’s great mood. Good benefits from this action all around.
The break is over, resume a regular bedtime pattern. On the weekend extend their bedtime for a few hours, do not support that ‘go to bed anytime they wish’. This will help some of your stressors, you are the PARENT. Good sleep goes a long way, sometimes mine will wake up singing and ready to get started. (Me -smiling and shaking my head, YES!)
Check their school supplies: Replenish some of the things they needed on the first day of school -last semester. (Pencils already sharpen, notebook paper, composition books, crayons, colored pencils, earbuds, a new book-bag, folders, USB ports, etc., etc., etc.…)
Help the teachers out, donate these items to the classroom: Soap in a bottle, Clorox wipes, Kleenex-tissues, anti-bacterial items, copy paper, dry eraser pens, red pens, highlighters, etc., extra items from the list above for a parent that may not have funds to donate for their child.
See if there are items to donate to the Counselor, Nurse, and/or Parent Liaison because accidents do happen: Extra clothing-uniforms, new underwear, socks, bags to take soil clothing home, first aid kits, toiletries: female pads and tampons, girls and boys spray deodorant, wipes, lotion, etc.
Check-in with your child’s teacher to see what is ahead for the new semester/Summer learning and how your child is progressing in their current academics and behavior.
Provide additional support at home during no homework nights, weekends, and school breaks. Add a home-school routine including 30 minutes read time and/or completing worksheets on math, reading, writing/cursive writing, grammar cues, your culture, US and World history, etc. Check at your child’s school for extra resources with the Parent Liaison, Counselor, Academic Coach, Media Specialist, and their Teacher. Also, your local library, pick up a library card and check out the resources it may have to offer you and your child.
Look over your School and the School Board’s website for additional resource and workshops information for parents.
See if your company or your business can provide a day of support at your child’s school for fundraisers, uniform/school clothing drives, haircuts/hairstyles, book readings and incentives, mentorship, etc.
Take a moment and ask your child about their day and what is going on in their everyday lives.
GMAS Time -Georgia Milestone Assessment System-Go to GADOE.org for testing information to help your child in the home setting.
Support the No-Bullying Programs and asked your child if they are playing a positive role when it comes to no-bullying.
At the end of this semester, it is going to be a time of transition for your child. They will move to the next grade whether in grade school, middle school, high school, college, entrepreneurship, job force, military, and just life as a child or life as an adult in their journey. PARENTS, focus on the positive while helping them prepare for the NEXT!
It does take a village, just be careful who you choose to be a part of yours, around your children. (Another story for another day)
Please take a moment and share, there are a lot of new parents with their villages coming on the scene.
Thank you for our village, you know who you are, it has been and continue to be a God covered journey.
We are ready!
Much love and prayers of vision, strength, and peace.
