my naming scheme for the resurrectionists causes me undue stress a lot of the time but when it works it Works

#edgar mortis is obv edgar allen poe + latin word for death. and his surname plays off the fact that there are four other resurrection men #only identified by their surnames which are pallor livor rigor and algor. rigor mortis should be easy to clock but the rest are all stages #of death as well when you attach -mortis to the end of them. which cements edgar's identity as a resurrection man even when he's farrr too #consumed by morana's world of magic and mystery to be actively working.#morana faust is a slavic death goddess + faust. the most famous necromancer in all of fiction. once again her surname cements her identity #as a necromancer specifically even when she gets swept away by unrelated magical happenings #nine and shi aren't their real names but their identification numbers are 9444999 and 4999444. 9 and 4 are both associated with death and #each of their numbers are the other's but reversed. also nine was a classical composer in life and there's a superstition that classical #composers will not live to write their 9th symphony (he sure as hell didn't lol) so it's fitting that he's the one who ended up with the #nickname. abberline isn't his real name either so he doesn't count. valdís has ancient norse for 'death' (val) + 'dis' (goddess) despite th #name not actually being used for any actual death goddess and her surname toth is likely derived from a medieval german word for death #her name isn't glaringly out of place with the rest of the cast but doesn't immediately let you catch on to her whole deal #which is good bc valdís is meant to sort of blend into the backround of reader's minds until The Reveal.#mara is a minor hindu goddess of death and her surname grave is. well. self explanatory. i tried to give the more non-magical side of londo #more straightforward names to contrast with some of the others and obv her dad was created before her and dr grave seemed like a good name #for someone who only popped up in the story while he was hiring professional grave robbers (now he pawns that task off on mara lol)#ereshkigal kore is just queen of the underworld + queen of the underworld but def has a very grandiose feel which is good bc that's #absolutely the vibes she should be giving off. all her servants' names boil down to figures associated with the greek + mesopotamian #underworlds. mainly attendants of aforementioned goddesses. which fits bc they all serve her #but i'd like to give special consideration to the maid trio here bc they're a set of triplets. and their last name is cerberus.#which famously had 3 heads. and the older two feature a similar naming scheme as persephone + eurydice (they even both end in the same e #sound) but the youngest's name is aisha which means 'living' or 'alive'. and obv her departure from the naming scheme makes her more easily #differentiated from her sisters + more memorable in the long run which is good bc she's the most important maid but it also gives me room t #have a 'my name means alive but she's named for the queen of the underworld so i'm willing to not live up to my name if it means being #closer to her' moment w a shitton of lilies in frame in case it isn't clear to anyone what's going on ('her' means eresh not persephone btw #and then there's dysmas. the patron saint of undertakers. which fits bc catholic. and sanson. as in the executioner. for a character heavil #inspired by the nasuverse's church executioners like kirei and ciel #rosette comes from the rosette nebula which looks like a skull. hayden is from one of my kids at work who said that next time i wrote a #murderer into something i had to name them after her so. here you go hayden. you get to be the cannibalistic child. Leonardo:

Leo would want to honor his Japanese heritage, in the memory of his father. With a great knowledge of not just Japanese culture and language, but mythology and history, Leo would have more than just a few name ideas for his future children. His future partner may very well have to keep him in check, helping him sort through the all.

For Boys:

Kenji, meaning either “strong and vigorous” or “intelligent second son” in Japanese.

Asahi, meaning “morning sun”, “rising sun” or “sunrise” in Japanese.

Kangiten, the Japanese god of bliss.

For Girls:

Haru, meaning “springtime” in Japanese.

Sanyu, meaning “happiness” in Japanese.

Amaterasu, the name of the Shinto goddess of the sun.

Raphael:

Keanu, because of Keanu Reeves of course. Duh.

Ace, from Latin, meaning “one”, “someone who excels” or someone of a high rank.

Bodhi, a Sanskrit name meaning “enlightenment” or “awakening”.

For Girls:

Cherry, which both could be referring to a meaning of “dear one”, but also the fruit.

Clementine, meaning everything from “merciful”, “gentle” and “mild” to the small citrus fruit.

Éowyn, because of Lord Of The Rings, of course.

oh god u don't understand how cool this was to think about but also! how difficult!!

Men costumes are usually either 1.plain shirt 2. tight black long sleeve 3. the ugliest thing you've seen in your life (with some VERY SPARSE outliers), so this was hard but here's my try at it.

So, I think Sapnap and Dream would have a kind-of similar style not because they do irl, but because of the music choices.

Sapnap's best programs are on (not urban) spanish/latin music with a lot of classic guitar. This means he literally has the option of going, off-white shirt or black top with very little shinies if at all. Red accents are allowed. He's the one i have more vague in my mind but fl Sapnap would go more on the black with golden accents, cleavage + golden jewelry. He's the most likely to wear a full black costume in competition. Examples: (i hate suspenders to death but u get the gist)

Now, Dream. Why are him and Sapnap similar? -> shirt as costumes. I don't think Dream would go for full body tight, but also I think that his outfits really progress during the years. Dream is a kind of a modern pop/ballad skater so I think he'd wear lighter colours and costumes that "look like clothes".

Examples (the burgundy would probs be dark green but u get it, also little cleavage because he's a coward):

For his comeback season though (after his injury and George coming to Canada for him), he does his short in a black tight costume with blue accents and his free in a off-white blouse that's more open and soft AND HE SLAYS (i love that shirt think of dream in that, his comeback, making a new record again my baby).

George now!! So, if he could he would wear full black loose tops and that's it, because 1. he doesn't like the feel of tight clothes 2. shirts are awful and he hates them. Problem for him -> his trainer/coreographer is Stpehane Lambiel who's a drama queen and would not let him. So, because his programs are very classic, ice-prince type of coreo, he wears loose mesh outfits (give the illusion of see through but aren't really), with light blues and turqouises.

Examples (the last one my absolute fave for him, ots such a famous one but,, look at it):

Now, for their exhibition. They dance together a modern song (think virtue/moire stay) which is more on Dream's repertoire that what George's would be, but they´ve been just playing around with that song so long in the rests from training and when it was only just them that is so personal. I think Dream wears a shirt very similar to this but with a slightly different fit (tucked in bottom, similar to George's light blue/white costume from before). Also, the back as it is but would change the front so it doesn't look like a fake jacket but as a unified one piece gradient.

For George tho, i think originally he was thinking on a loose full black with golden rhinestones (and that's what Dream thinks his costume is) but then Lambiel convinces him to change it so they match better. Makes sense with the lore okay. He changes it to something similar to note stellata (again, a classic) but with blue as the contrast color. The cut being diagonal down to his pants instead of tucked in gives it a more "dress" look than the tucked-in shirts he usually wears and the contrast works with dream's. The flowy bits give contrast from the tightness of the rest of the shirt and the silhouette!!

This one would've been designed to work with Dream's so the match would be better okay, it's hard to find men's costumes that already match for pairs

Born on this day: totally unique post-punk No Wave chanteuse Cristina (Cristina Monet Palaci, 17 January 1956 – 1 April 2020) who made precisely two barbed, weird and distinctive albums - released by the cutting edge Ze label - that flopped commercially and then retired from music. Cristina’s trademark is setting scathing observations to perky music, and she mostly sings and writes within the persona of a jaded party girl or gold digger (a tradition that dates to Mae West and Eartha Kitt). Self-titled debut Cristina (1980) (reissued in 2004 as Doll in the Box) is her mutant disco album. Lushly produced by Kid Creole, it’s campy fun with Latin rhythm in its hips (if you like cowbell, this is the album for you!), but I prefer the 1984 follow-up, the tougher, darker and more cutting New Wave pop of Sleep It Off. Cristina’s venomous, spikily funny lyrics work as wry poetry already, but then she enunciates them in an alienated, deadpan can't-be-bothered snarl (she has “resting bitch voice”, occasionally punctuated with a Johnny Rotten sneer). Here’s a sampling of her wit and wisdom: “My life is in a turmoil / My thighs are black and blue / My sheets are stained, so is my brain / What's a girl to do?” from "What’s A Girl to Do?" is as lacerating as anything found on Lydia Lunch’s 1980 magnum opus Queen of Siam. “Don't tell me that I'm frigid / Don't try to make me think / I'll do just fine without you / Don’t mutilate my mink” from her punk masterpiece “Don’t Mutilate My Mink”. (In their obit, The Guardian describes it as sounding like Audrey Hepburn fronting the Sex Pistols). Like many abrasive early eighties New York punk funk musicians (see also: James Chance of The Contortions), she may initially work best in small doses and for many may be an acquired taste. Las Vulpess: the scandal

Just 40 years ago, four girls from the Bilbo neighborhood of Irala, between 17 and 21, starred in the first media scandal related to freedom of expression in Spain. Las Vulpess had not yet recorded a single single when the music critic Carlos Tena decided to make a music video with them on his new program on TVE, Caja de ritmos.

The sisters Loles and Lupe Vázquez (guitar and drums, respectively), were responsible for adapting the lyrics of I Wanna Be Your Dog - by Iggy Pop & The Stooges - in their own way, which Mamen Rodrigo would sing while Begoña Astigarraga played the bass. The song's title?: I like to be a whore.

Nothing happened at that time, since it was a program with a very small audience. The scandal erupted ten days later, when newspaper ABC published the lyrics of the song and vigorously protested its broadcast in children's programming hours, arguing that the song "degrades Spanish society, revolts the father of a family, unworthy the responsible citizen, breaks the intimacy of the home, violates what is established in the Constitution and goes beyond the limits of what is tolerable".

The media of that time asked for heads to roll: Caja de ritmos was not broadcast again, the presenter submitted his resignation and, the following Saturday, what the children's audience could see at that time was… a bullfight.

The snowball continued to grow until it reached the courts. The State Attorney General's Office filed a criminal complaint against the director of the program "for offense to modesty and good customs" and Loles Vázquez as the author of the lyrics and Mamen Rodrigo as vocal interpreter for public derision. Three, five years in prison and ten years of disqualification were requested for them. In 1986, the case was dismissed.

Thanks to growing up in very politically committed families, Loles – whose parents had fought against Franco in hiding, from unionism and women's associations – also had that support.

"My family helped us, my parents and brothers understood and supported us, we all went together, and it was quite important to feel so supported," the guitarist confesses. "We did not fear for our future, but of course it did worry us, because handling a scandal at the age we were was not easy, on the contrary, it was very difficult. A lot of stress, the phone did not stop ringing, everybody wanted to exploit the whole scandal: first musically and then the media, the political parties… It was pretty fucked up, speaking clearly".

Las Vulpess were the first all-female punk-rock quartet in Spain. I would venture to say that, even, rock in general. "If in the US or England it was already difficult for women to be in a rock group, well imagine in the Basque Country at that time. Even the boys had a hard time getting their instruments or a place, nobody had money, we were in a super harsh crisis. Rock and roll was very sexist, women's work was basically escort, groupie. Punk revolutionized everything, and one of the things that changed was the role of women. We too could be in a stage", concedes Loles Vázquez.

Now we are more accustomed, not only in punk but in more formal commercial pop, to hearing the word "bitch" or "whore" reversing its connotations of insult as a symbol of pride and self-affirmation. And, although it is impossible to collect data that proves anything, if they were not the first in the world, Las Vulpess sure were pioneers in this. Before rappers like Queen Latifah or MC Lyte began to use "bitch" in the same way in the US at the end of the 80s, no other precedents have been revealed. "I first played with Latin, hence the Vulpes thing," [Vulpes means fox in Latin, fox in Spanish has the same meaning that bitch in English] explains the author of the adaptation, which she wrote at the age of 15.

"It was what I received then. I wore leopard miniskirts made from car upholstery, we tore our stockings at the feet, because there weren't those things like leggings today… So with those looks, the stiletto shoes, the nets, the eyes painted with the eyeliner, when the guys passed by me they yelled at me: Whore! That was what they called me the most. And, well, I liked it. I liked being who I was. Being different was a source of pride. Those guys who defended marriage and those who were junkies and considered themselves cool, all told me the same. All those people calling me a bitch made me think, to that age, that being a whore was cool."

But what happened to Las Vulpess? Their label, Dos Rombos, hurried them to record the single that quickly sold out a circulation of 7,000 copies and, shortly after, sold 5,000 more, but the girls said they saw hardly any money from it.

Although the worst came with the concerts. On May 18, 1983, barely a month after the controversy, they performed at the temple of the Movida in Madrid, the Rock-Ola. But they ran into the peculiar reception of the security personnel in the room, who gave them a beating in the dressing room for singing a song critical of the Police. According to what Las Vulpess recounted, when they went to the nearest police station to report what had happened, they found that the agents who attended them were the same ones who had attacked them. They were policemen who had infiltrated the concert. It was not the only time, as confirmed by the guitarist.

"Yes, they used to beat us, yes. We were included in concerts with groups that had nothing to do with us. Then the press also released many lies and there were people who thought we would go out naked or in our panties. People weren't going to see a punk rock concert, they were going to cause a scandal. Buses full of fascists also came to boycott us, and we had to get out on our feet many times".

"In the end, everybody wanted to take advantage -adds Loles-, we were fresh meat, and both the politicians and the promoters took advantage, (…) they took all the money and we could not return home. All that burned us out a lot, it annoyed us quite a bit, and clearly, that caused us to break up, although it must also be emphasized that there were already musical differences between us".

That summer at the Bilbo festivities Las Vulpess said "enough" and disbanded a fortnight before entering to record what should have been their first album.
