3 February 1954: The Queen wore a mimosa gold tulle dress adorned with sparkling gold wattle motifs, designed by Norman Hartnell, on her first evening engagement of the royal tour in Sydney, Australia.
As for the jewelry, she wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, the Greville chandelier earrings, the King George VI diamond festoon necklace, and the Edinburgh wedding bracelet.

Why isn't William wearing his fancy trousers at the diplomatic reception this year? I thought it's part of one of the orders.
Are you referring to the Garter breaches? I don’t really know the rules on when they should wear it but I know he wore them in 2016 and 2018, but not this year and last year. Given how unfussy he is, I think it’s his choice not to wear it lol

Well, well, well...
It's been approximately two months since the pr narrative about The Waleses being all about "the work" started.
And just think of all the pictures we now have of them working! The Waleses, they're just like us!
In fact, so dedicated is Kate to "her work" that she didn't even wear any dresses, except for that one time when she wore a dress to a memorial service for QEII in Wales.
Otherwise, Kate is all about business work! That's why she wore suits!
Just count em'!
Rugby podcast video: A Catherine Walker blazer in Prince of Wales check, Alexander McQueen Tailored straight-leg trousers/pants, and white shirt.
09 Sept 2023: Rugby World Cup appearance in white pantsuit; white/ivory Alexander McQueen blazer with white pants/trousers (possibly Roland Mouret).
12 Sept 2023: Alexander McQueen Amethyst suit
14 Sept 2023: Maje Vincio Blazer in Houndstooth tweed with black pants/trousers and shirt/sweater
18 Sept 2023: Holland Cooper Double-Breasted Twill Blazer in black with black pants/trousers and white shirt.
19 Sept 2023: Roland Mouret custom suit in beige
26 Sept 2023: Burberry Wool Tailored Suit in green
27 Sept 2023: Zara Textured Double-Breasted Long Blazer in red, LK Bennet Frieda Pants/Trousers in black
28 Sept 2023: Holland Cooper suit in navy chalk pin stripe
03 Oct 2023: Holland cooper suit in navy chalk pin stripe
04 Oct 2023: Cefinn Janie Sleeveless Funnel Neck sweater/jumper in mid-grey with Sezane Martin Trousers in mottled grey
05 Oct 2023: Oxen Sports ensemble
10 Oct 2023: LK Bennet Mya Blazer in yellow with black sweater and black Roland Mouret Axon Wide Leg pants/trousers
Wow.
THIRTEEN ensembles before Kate wore a skirt again.
She wore so many pantsuit ensembles that The Telegraph posted an article about it.
For eight out of the ten new appearances she’s undertaken in the past three weeks, the Princess has worn either a full trouser suit or a blazer with coordinating trousers. She’s mostly chosen muted colours and she’s largely been recycling previously seen pieces.  [...] If three’s a trend, then these many tailored looks point to a very deliberate change in style direction from Catherine, who has always used her fashion choices to send messages. So what is she trying to tell us here? “It’s a look of the moment, which works well on the Princess with her long legs, and those boxy jackets suit her,” said Ingrid Seward, the editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine and author of numerous royal biographies. “She wore those ‘little girl’ dresses for so long, but now she wants to look more sophisticated. It’s more of a work-day look; she doesn’t need to be in dresses anymore. A suit is snappier and smarter.” A year after assuming their Wales titles, Catherine and William are shaping their new roles for a modern era. “Catherine’s suits come at a time when the Waleses are making the way they work much more businesslike,” Seward said, adding that their increased workload and fresh approach to running their office, with the imminent appointment of a CEO, points to a polished and professional attitude from the future king and queen.  If Catherine has spent the past decade being viewed as a mother and young duchess, with a wardrobe of ladylike looks to reflect that perception, then now that she is in her 40s it may feel like the right time to swing the narrative.
Wow. Ten plus years as a royal and only now does she want to be taken seriously! So much for wearing bright colors like Queen Elizabeth II so that people can see you. It's "muted colors" time now!
And it’s understandable that she might use what Seward called “the look of the moment” to craft a serious yet chic uniform that reflects her current priorities. But there are other long-time admirers of Catherine’s style who miss her softer, more classically “princessy” outfits.  “I don’t mind the occasional trouser or suit, but she’s been wearing this style so much of late,” wrote Jane Barr, who comments on the Princess via her Instagram page, From Berkshire to Buckingham. “I really miss the beautiful dresses and coats. This is, very frankly, boring. She is the Princess of Wales. I’d like to see some more pizazz.” The time for pizazz may come later in the autumn, especially if Catherine attends a state banquet set to be held in honour of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in November. For now, though, “blazers are more powerful than a dress, tougher and less feminine,” according to Berkeley. “The armour plating one needs to get a job done, in my book.”
Oh, is it all about the work now? Blazers and business suits to "get a job done"? Just like Gordon Rayner wrote two months ago, "Kate is keen to do more." I see all members of the British press, who write about Kate and the royals, have received the message loud and clear that Kate is all about "the work."
Was there a risk that the press would assume Kate is not about "the work" these days? For what reason would anyone assume something like that? Is there something that the unspectacular Kensington Palace comms team hasn't told peeps about? Some "ongoing situation" that is going to become permanent?
I'm sure nothing significant will be happening regarding The Waleses in the next two weeks while their three school-age children are on half-term break. It's not as if we are currently in a period of time where shit just springs out of nowhere with no warning. Just ask Israel! They received multiple warnings that Hamas was planning shit and ignored it. See! They were warned about it. It didn't come out of nowhere even though everyone outside of the Israeli government didn't know about it.
You can't blame the messenger when people just don't want to listen.

There’s nothing confirmed but last year all the cousins were there minus peter (plus Sophie and even all Kate’s family) so this year being in honor of QE I can see al the cousins attending (not Eugenie because she is in Portugal). When they announce that C&C were going they said “and other members of the rf” but 🤷🏾. And with everything that’s happening with Harry and Meghan I can see all them going to show support. It’s sad that we have reached this point :(
Oh shoot, okay, I didn’t remember! Bring ‘em all then! George, Charlotte, Louis, Mia, Lena, Lucas, Savannah, Isla. Hell, bring August (if Eugenie is around). Wolfie and Sienna! James and Louise! Aunts and uncles! Cousins, spouses, Middletons and their spouses/kids. Cute little Christmas outfits for the kids, sweaters and plaid dresses, Wales color coordination, the whole nine yards. Make sure the senior ladies wear some of QEII’s jewelry! Go full out, show the world that this family is both above and unaffected by the bullshit happening in “Hollywood.” The whole squad is so much bigger than the stupid doc! Give me everyone - you want the media in your favor, you overshadow it all without even breaking a sweat. Hell, the media is already in the BRF’s favor - busting out the whole family in a united front for the holidays is just the icing on the cake. The headlines would be huge! Front page, massive photos! They’re so much bigger than what’s going on on the other side of the pond - this is a hell of a way to show it. You know that the other two drop things on specific dates to compete with/overshadow what the royals are doing (it’s too frequent at this point to be a coincidence) - time to give them a taste of their own medicine. Fight fire with fire. Charles is ruthless when it comes to PR; time for Their Majesties and Their Royal Highnesses to come out swinging in the classiest way possible. That being said, I also hate that his is how it had to be, love, and I can’t even believe I’m writing this out. It’s so sad that it literally hurts (I’m sure you saw my ‘depression shitposting’ from last night). But… they made their beds. The family can only do so much to defend themselves. This is something they can control. Make it classy, make it royal, but make it clear - the family and monarchy are unaffected by the bullshit.

20220909 a memory
In 1995 when I visited Scotland QEII was in residence at Holyrood Palace. Which meant her presence loomed large over the country and you never quite knew which tourism plans would be disrupted, especially in Edinburgh. No visits to Holyrood (out of the question) an interrupted tour of the castle (w/ brief glimpse of Her in her car, see slide), and leapfrogging Her Majesty on visits to nearby manor houses, castles, and formal gardens.
After the trip, I created a collaged flip book-style artist's book featuring QEII in various outfits in the colours of the visible spectrum (ROYGBIV). Except, I couldn't find a foto of her in green. So at the very center of the book, in a flash (le rayon vert*), I collaged her head onto the body of a Scotsman in green tartan kilt (Jackie Stewart??) looming large over some of Scotland's most popular touristic sites. It's a unique piece, and besides my memories one of my favorite mementos of the trip.
Requiescat in pace Queen Elizabeth II. I'm glad your final rest occurred in a place you clearly loved, and where you felt at peace.
*le rayon vert : a meteorological optical phenomenon that occurs transiently around the moment of sunset or sunrise; the green flash usually lasts for no more than two seconds. Also a novel by Jules Verne; also an impressionable 1986 French film by Eric Rohmer.

Thinking about funeral attire after looking at the outfits from QEII’s funeral. Meghan’s stood out for me because it was so very plain compared to other royals’. Starkly plain dress, small studs, long gloves, a swoop of hat, but no embroidery or belt or brooch or veil or decoration. It felt like grieving wear, not mourning wear. Just thinking out loud.

27 October 1952: The Queen wore a black and white halter neck evening dress designed by Norman Hartnell for the Royal Film Show at the Empire Theatre, Leicester Square. She also wore the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, the Greville chandelier earrings, Queen Mary’s Dorset bow brooch, and the Edinburgh wedding bracelet.

Skippy, tried to research further into the Q & PP being photoshopped into picture of meeting baby A. Checked Windsor Horse show 2018. QEII in same outfit it seems - blue sweater, white blouse and plaid skirt. Someone reported also a photo of PP standing behind her at the show looking at a newborn foal but was unable to find it. Was looking in Getty pics. Maybe someone else might have better luck.
We actually covered that right when the pics were released.....yes, same outfit....thank you😊❤️❤️❤️❤️

I await with bated breath (not really) CB's criticism of Kate's outfit for the Remembrance Day Parade, and the complaint about the buttons! They will decide that she has fallen out with Camilla because they were social distancing, and that QEII was looking miserable rather than solemn. I also wait for the moans that they didn't let someone lay a wreath on Harry's behalf. 😀

That photo op at the cemetery was weird to me. I am an immigrant and I understand wanting to share and participate in your culture and traditions. The way to do that is to go to the embassy and join your compatriots for the event. The first thing that struck me that there were no Brits with them at that cemetery to share in the sorrow and the gratitude and for that reason it looked like a photo op. Harry looked very much out of place. It looked as if they don’t keep in touch with other Brits.

What was your favorite QEII outfit that she wore to her grandchildren's weddings? The Queen looked lovely in all outfits but the one she wore to Eugenie's wedding was the loveliest for me.
Me too! I adore that shade of blue and I thought the soft blue with the deep ivory looked so elegant.

Black again. Ugh
Felix why oh why does she keep wearing black? What she had on today did look better that what she has been wearing but it was inappropriate for the time of day plus it looked matronly. She with goes from too young, too tacky of a look to out of place and matronly. What gives? Do you think the black outfits are a rebellion to QEII cause she knows the unspoken rule of royal women wearing black? Or…

10 Tiaras for Meghan Markle
Before I get into the tiaras, it’s important to remember that there is a precedence to these things and that as wife to a grandchild of the monarch she will not have access to the larger or more historically important pieces especially early on in her marriage.  She also won’t be able to wear a tiara that is still being worn by the Queen or on loan to another member of the royal family.  Click on the name of each tiara for more information about it and I’ve got at tag for all of the times I’ve discussed this in the past so if you have any more questions check here or send me an ask.
1. A New Tiara
Tumblr media
When I first read about Queen Elizabeth II giving Sarah, Duchess of York a new tiara bought for her with no royal provenance, I thought it was a slight and that maybe QEII didn’t have a high regard for Sarah or she didn’t think the marriage would last but the more I’ve thought about it the more I think she got the best deal out of all of the Queen’s daughters-in-law.  Unlike the Queen’s other daughters-in-law who received royal tiaras on long term loans, Sarah’s tiara is her own personal property and can be passed down to her children.  I would really like to see a new tiara (or old tiara but new to the family) bought for Meghan but that’s not without problems.  The cost of the tiara will inevitably be tracked down which is never good for pr.
2. Queen Elizabeth’s Halo Scroll Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara has frequently been used as a starter tiara within the family.  After being worn for a few years by Queen Elizabeth it was given as an 18th birthday present to Queen Elizabeth II (though she was never photographed wearing it).  Then Princess Margaret, Princess Anne, and the Duchess of Cambridge all used it at the beginning of their tiara wearing.  The Duchess of Cambridge hasn’t worn it since her wedding and seems to have moved on to larger tiaras leaving this one open for a new royal lady.
Update: Since this tiara is on loan to the Cartier exhibition in Canberra it’s no longer a possibility for Meghan Markle, dashing my hopes of starting a wedding tiara tradition in the royal family.
3. Queen Elizabeth’s Strathmore Rose Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara hasn’t been worn in nearly a century but we know it still belongs to QEII because it’s occasionally featured in books and exhibitions.  There are rumors that it’s in too bad of shape to be worn but it looked fine when it was photographed in 2012 for The Queen’s Diamonds.  Plus, the Queen has had tiaras completely remade before when the metal deteriorated so that wouldn’t prevent this one from being loaned out in the future.  This one seems more unlikely to me now that I’ve seen more of Meghan’s preferred style of jewellery, which is very minimalistic.  I just don’t see her choosing something as fussy as a floral tiara.
4. Queen Mary’s Filigree Tiara
Tumblr media
I’d love to see this tiara resurface.  It’s hasn’t been seen since 1949 but there’s no evidence to suggest it’s left the royal family.  It’s substantial but not too large for someone not used to wearing tiara and the geometric pattern gives it a more modern feel.
5. Queen Mary’s Diamond Lozenge Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara hasn’t been seen in half a century and the pearls have since been used elsewhere but I think this small geometric tiara would be a lovely on a new royal.  Opposite to what I said above about the Strathmore Rose Tiara, this tiara feels more likely to me now that I’ve seen Meghan’s preferred style of jewellery.
6. Queen Elizabeth’s Double Meander Tiara
Tumblr media
We only know that this tiara belong to Queen Elizabeth because she lent it out for books and exhibitions and the only time we’ve seen it worn was by Princess Anne several years ago though it’s not clear if it’s hers or was just a one time loan from QEII.  It’s probably a bit large for a starter tiara but I’d love to get some proper photos of it being worn.
7.  Duchess of Teck’s Crescent Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara is always brought up when discussing tiaras for Meghan but in my opinion it’s not a good option.  It was made in a time when women wore large hairpieces and the circumference of it is huge.  Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, tried to wear it a couple times without a hairpiece and it didn’t work out very well.  It’s currently on loan to the Duchess of Cornwall and I think it would need to be extensively reworked before it’s worn by her or any other royal lady.
8. Queen Mary’s Sapphire Bandeau Tiara
Tumblr media
While I love sapphires and really want this tiara to be worn again, the problem I have with it and all others on this list with colored gemstones is that this will probably be her only tiara for many years.  (Diana and Sarah were never even offered a second tiara by the Queen.)  Having to match all of the outfits she wore at tiara events to a single color would be difficult.
9. Queen Elizabeth’s Bracelet Bandeau Tiara
Tumblr media
This hasn’t been seen as a tiara in a long time but the bracelets are still worn by QEII.  There are five bracelet’s total with two diamond ones on the outsides and then emerald, ruby, and sapphire interchangeable center bracelets.  I think this tiara would suit Meghan’s style very nicely but it may not be enough of a tiara to please the public.
10. Margaret Greville’s Emerald Tiara
Tumblr media
This tiara was part of the Greville bequest to Queen Elizabeth but it hasn’t been worn publicly by any member of the royal family.  It’s unlikely but I’d love to see it taken out of the vaults.
There is also the very real possibility that Meghan won’t wear a tiara on her wedding day.  She could wear other jewels in her hair like Princess Charlene of Monaco or no hair jewellery at all.  Ultimately, I think that she will wear a tiara simply because the public expects it.
Like I said before if you have a question about a tiara not mentioned on this list check the Prince Harry’s Future Wife tag or send me an ask.
