can it please be september 2020 already, I really want to go to uni 🤧
as much as i need this gap year to rest, gain experience and earn some money before moving to london, I can’t wait for it to be over. so here’s a small throwback to the undergraduate open day at city (going to a similar event, this time to westminster uni, in october!) ft. a study session from exam season because I miss those a lot too

so simple yet so easily forgotten by so many of us.
our approach to studies is often unrealistic: we think that pulling all-nighters, skipping meals or isolating from all sources of entertainment in order to study will bring us academic success. it might be working out in the beginning, but the truth is, you cannot accomplish anything in the long term if you do not regularly satisfy the most basic needs of your brain and yourself as an organism.
it took me over three years to realise this, and now i cannot stress it enough. relax. move. eat. drink. breathe. work hard, take care of yourself harder.

[1:24 AM]
a short time lapse (about 2 hours i guess?) of me working on my extended essay!
yes i am well aware that pulling all nighters isn’t good for you but the deadline is tomorrow at 9:45 am and what i’ve done so far is high quality garbage, so. also, i prefer to call them ‘sleepovers’ 🌘💫

i’ve never been one to make resolutions, but this year i thought it would be interesting to set some goals and direct this year’s actions of mine towards achieving them. creating this list is also (hopefully) one step closer to recovery from all the mental health issues i’m struggling with. as i share my resolutions with you, i would love to know what resolutions you have made, or if you’re making any at all. you can dm me, drop a message in my inbox or reply to this post, i would love to talk to you - doesn’t matter where!
i guess you could treat this list as a sort of outline of what you will be seeing on this blog, aka lots of pictures of korean notes, reviews of all sorts and links to study-related audio and video content. let’s hope this year brings us all the necessary blessings and motivation to commit to our resolutions and improve ourselves: practice self-love and kindness to others.
have a great 2019 <3

Hi!! Thanks for answering my question, it’s really helpful❤️❤️❤️I was also wondering if you have any tips on coping with revising for finals and stress (especially w depression)? Like how do I revise effectively and balance all of my subjects xx thank u
prioritizing is important, meaning: focus on the subjects that will be necessary for you in the future. it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t study for the rest at all, but rather, in times when you panic or get overwhelmed with the workload, you’ll know what to start with.
and for any revising to be effective, you need to know yourself and your limits, so for example try experimenting with different pomodoro method proportions (aka not necessarily 25:5 but 30:10 or 45:10, just find out whatever works for you) so that you can effectively plan out your day and balance different subjects as well as studying and resting.
the most important advice i could ever give anyone, coming straight from my therapist, is that you absolutely NEED to recharge = rest, eat, go outside, be physically active. studying is pointless when your brain is constantly running, without the amount of rest enough for it to recharge completely. when i was studying for finals, i would repeat this to myself all the time, so much that i made an infographic:
Tumblr media
if it’s easy for you to feel guilty when you don’t revise 24/7, stop for a moment and remember that your brain and you are not machines, and even if they were, they would need fuel to keep going just like a human needs fuel, not only to be able to work at all, but to be able to work well.
also remember that whatever the results will be they do not define you and do not determine your whole life. whatever situation you find yourself in, you’re going to handle it, and you’re going to be okay. good luck again

university open day mini-guide
i’ve recently attended an undergraduate open day at city, university of london, and i wanted to share my experience + what i had learned throughout the process of preparation. hopefully someone will be able to find it helpful when planning their visit!
step 1: going alone or with someone?
when registering for the open day you will be asked whether you’re taking someone with you so that you can be sent the adequate number of entry codes later on. if you’re planning to go with a group of friends or your parents let them know earlier and plan accordingly.
step 2: registration
visit the website of your university of choice and look for open day info. take a look at the dates of the next open day and if there’s an option to register, go for it. you won’t have to share much of your personal data so if you’re concerned about that, no worries. you should receive an email when your registration was successful and that will be it for some time. until about 1-2 weeks before the open day you will be sent a schedule for the day, and a few days prior — the entry code(s).
step 3: planning the visit
okay so it’s a week or two before the big day and you’ve received a timetable for all talks, tours, etc that will be carried out. take your time to thoroughly read and study it and once you decide what you’re interested in, make your own plan. here is my timetable for the open day at city:
Tumblr media
step 4: planning the trip
if the campus is in a city you’ve never been to, you also need to plan how you are going to get there, i.e. nearby railway stations, underground stations, buses, etc and how much time you will need for commuting.
step 5: packing
of all things, the most important is your entry code. it’s good to have it printed out in case your phone battery dies, so take that paper with you. you’ll also very much need some water and a snack, as well as some money. there will be cafes, canteens or vending machines where you’ll be able to buy coffee or even a regular meal. a notepad and a pen or pencil will be of great use as well. if you’d like you can also print out a map of the campus (should be provided in the open day guide you’ll receive in your inbox) and your own schedule for the day (something like in the picture above).
step 6: dressing up
i don’t know how it is at every university, but at city you didn’t really have to be dressed formally for the open day. people were wearing rather casual clothes and no one was too dressed up. it’s important to wear something comfy though, especially the shoes, because there will be a lot of walking.
step 7: it’s important to...
ask
at the campus you’re in good hands. all the student ambassadors won’t let you wander alone. if you get lost, want to find a particular room or the toilet, there will always be someone to help. also don’t be scared to ask questions about anything you need information about. whether it’s the students or professors, they are there for you to ask them literally anything. so go for it, they don’t bite (actually, they are so kind and warm that it hurts to leave the campus afterwards, i mean it).
keep it within reasonable limits
at the admissions talk, three hours after my arrival at the campus, i was so exhausted that i couldn’t focus for one minute on what the lecturer was saying. but you, you can’t push yourself to that point. open days are very tiring especially when you’re interested in so much stuff taking place that you want to attend it all. so remember to find time to eat something, drink something and accept that it might turn out to be physically impossible for you to go to every single lecture and that’s okay, really. you can always email particular departments afterwards or contact current students and find out whatever you’re curious about.
