why can't people literally just have fun?
like- why do you spend your time policing how other people enjoy fiction, if you could spend it imagining fun scenarios for your ships and blorbos to go through?

hey do you guys remember when like. brother/brother and sister/sister and brother/sister ships werent just normal, they were really common? parent/child ships werent as widespread as sibling ships but you still saw both of them a lot. like you used to see incest ships all the fucking time.
like you couldnt go five minutes on this hellsite without scrolling past wincest or thorki or any number of the dozens of popular hp incest ships. do people not remember the onecest takeover? the onecest dynasty? what about elsanna? what about all the fontcest that came out of the undertale fandom? mha fans loved shipping the entire todoroki family together. what about game of thrones just in general? the hitachiin twincest? literally everyone from osomatsu-san? usuk and all the other incest ships from hetalia? fucking HOMESTUCK?
it used to be that you couldnt throw a rock in ANY fandom without hitting a whole bunch of super popular incest ships. it was everywhere. it was NORMAL. because people didnt care about what anyone else liked in fiction, because everyone knew the difference between fantasy and reality. and its not like incest hasnt been one of the most popular porn categories all over the world for years.
now though, with the huge resurgence of evangelical puritanism in western fandom and the massive influx of alt-right christofascist antishippers, nothing is allowed to just be fiction any more. braindead little conservative assholes and bigots will scream and shit themselves over people shipping the elric brothers because fandom isnt allowed to be fun any more. antis will see someone talking about sebaciel and start spewing their disgusting rhetoric at everyone and being TERFS and wannabe cops until nobody wants to participate in fandom any more.
fandoms are dying and its antis fault

what my 65yo father has to say about antis:
let me preface this by saying, i literally wish i had what just happened on video to go viral on TikTok. i was shook by this conversation down to my bones; and if you could see my father - a loud old Italian man with dramatic hand gestures - say what he had to say, i think this shit would blow up. but as i was obviously not filming him while we were eating, i will have to relay to you the story with my words.
so i'm sitting eating dinner at the coffee table with my father while watching TV, as Americans often do instead of eating at the dinner table, and since the news was on he started telling me this story that had been recently mentioned on TV once again from maybe ten years ago (it was in 2014, you can read about it here) where these two 12-year-old girls killed one of their friends as a sacrifice to the Slender Man. yeah, real thing. fucked up.
and so my father told me about how they interviewed one of the killer's mothers, and when questioned about where her daughter's motive could've come from, she said something along the lines of: you know, when i was a kid, i was into Stephen King and horror - and so when my kid was into that kind of stuff, i didn’t think it was a big deal.
so, of course, my response was "yeah, being into that stuff isn’t a big deal at all - it's normal - but being a sociopath and murdering someone is not normal; it's fucked up. but there's nothing wrong with being into horror stories - they're just stories meant to entertain - it doesn't make you a murderer to enjoy Halloween - but it would if you put on a Michael Myers mask and went out and stabbed people." and, of course, like any sane person, my father agreed with me.
then, continuing this line of conversation, i started talking about the concept of how "fiction isn’t reality," and how a frightening amount of people don't understand that; and i literally started telling him about antis - people on the internet who attack and harass others over "problematic" or "inappropriate" fictional interests.
i used well-known pop culture examples like: if you're into Game of Thrones and like Jaime and Cersei together or wanted Jon and Daenerys to end up together (i didn't think he would process the term "shipping," but clearly by the end of this conversation i think i was wrong), that people (antis) will say things like "you should die," and that you "support inc*st in real life," and that "you're disgusting."
i also used the examples of "toxic relationships" in pop culture, like the Joker and Harley Quinn, or Kylo Ren and Rey, and how if you’re into those kinds of fictional relationships that people (antis) will say that you "support toxic relationships," and that you are "glorifying abuse," and that it all "must be what you really want and believe is right or good."
and my fucking 65-year-old father literally goes: "I don’t understand. It’s a TV show. Don't they know it’s fake?"
queue my jaw dropping to the fucking ground because i'm like. YES. THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT PRO-SHIPPERS ARE TRYING TO SAY AND THESE PEOPLE DON'T GET IT.
he was flabbergasted, my pals. the shock in his eyes was incredible to behold.
and, oh boy, that isn't even the best part, guys.
my father then says, "Don’t tell me it’s like that with anime too?"
and i said, "it's worse with anime."
and i fucking swear to you - no joke, on my life and baby Jesus' cradle - again my 65-year-old father looks at me and says, “It’s a fucken cartoon."
... ... ...
... i can't ...
i can't end this post better than that.

Hey man, I really enjoyed following you for all of your content, but I noticed something recently that’s really upsetting.
I saw you talking about Pro-shipping; I don’t know if you quite understand what you’re supporting.
In disallowing “antis”, you’re inviting people who support pedophilia, incest, and all kinds of other things in those areas.
Is that seriously who you want to be associated with?
No hate, I guess. I just wanna know for my own safety so I can know whether or not I need to unfollow and the like.
All due respect, anon, I think it's you who doesn't understand the position you're supporting.
The anti position is that pixels deserve the same rights as living, breathing human beings. The anti position is that rape and abuse are not wrong because they are a violation of human rights, but because they're "icky". The anti position is that the rape of a real person is not any worse than writing a story about a fictional character being raped. The anti position is that it's acceptable to tell people to kill themselves over their tastes in fiction. The anti position is that survivors who enjoy dark fiction as a way to feel seen are the same as their abusers. The anti position is that sending reports to the FBI over stories on AO3, thus diverting resources from real children in need of rescuing from trafficking, is not only acceptable, but a moral obligation. The anti position is that fictional beings will always be more important and deserving of respect and kindness than real people.
If THAT is what you want to be associated with, then yes, perhaps you should unfollow, because I will never take the stance that a fictional character has any rights at all- let alone rights equal to a real person's.

NOT a problem: Primarily liking yaoi, BL, or m x m content.
IS a problem: Treating living, breathing mlm like they're a spectacle, invading their space, or going "SQUEEEE OMG IRL YAOI!!"
NOT a problem: Primarily liking yuri, GL, or w x w content.
IS a problem: Treating living, breathing wlw like they exist for your entertainment, or asking invasive, inappropriate questions out of the blue.
*NOT a problem: Finding NS/FW queer content attractive or arousing, even if you aren't necessarily queer yourself.
*IS a problem: Being an Actual Homophobe and claiming that being queer is gross and wrong and perverted, all while still using NS/FW queer content for your sexual gratification.
(* using "queer" as a blanket term here!)

love how antis love to call ppl ‘porn addicts’ as an insult even though
1. porn addiction as a concept has been debunked as porn is not in and of itself addictive and people who considered themselves porn addicts actually consumed similar amounts to non addicts, they just felt shame about it where the non addicts didn’t
2. if porn addiction WAS real, then it would be, yknow, an addiction. the mental illness that holds no inherent moral value. like i thought we were past the point of thinking that the simple act of being an addict is a moral failing.
3. they call people ‘porn addicts’ in response to people who post exclusively about nsfw on their nsfw accounts. like they don’t exist outside of one specific account. this just in if you post exclusively about fandom on your fandom blog than you are a fandom addict.

Something I've noticed a lot lately is how many problematic ship posts will have a TON of likes but very few reblogs. These ships get stereotyped as being rarepairs only enjoyed by freaks, and yet a lot of people like them. They're just terrified of the backlash of publicly reblogging it. And I think that's really sad.

I´ve lately seen many young peeps in fandom spaces, worrying about openly shipping their ships because of what antis might do
so let me tell you something:
antis are huge losers who are gonna find something to hate you for no matter what you do
even if you ship EXACTLY what they ship, theyre gonna yell at you for "not shipping it right"
so, my piece of advice: just do whatever you want and tear up the house! antis are gonna hate no matter what, so ignore them and find some good companions by being yourself

Things that being proship DOES mean :
- Being against harassment based on what other people like / consume / ship in fiction.
- Not liking certain things and / or not shipping certain things, but keeping it to yourself.
- Understanding that fiction does not determine a person’s real-life morals.
- Knowing that fiction and reality are two different things, and that by comparing fiction and reality on a 1:1 basis is inherently wrong.
- Not endorsing problematic content / problematic things in the real world, but having the power to know that exploring such things in fiction is not a bad or harmful thing.
Things that being proship DOES NOT mean :
- Being a real life child predator.
- Endorsing all problematic content / themes in the real world.
- Grooming children ( ? )
- Shipping and / or liking all problematic ships and content.
- Being a person deserving of d**th threats, doxxing, harassment, or anything even remotely like those things.

Being anti ship really shouldn't be this normalised. Calling for censorship and harassing people who make fiction you don't like shouldn't be seen as "normal" at all. Most people get others to call themself 'anti ship' only by claiming that pro shippers are groomers or by claiming that we believe it's ok to abuse people irl. How weak must your argument be that you need to lie about another group to get people to side with you?

In the past 24 hours:
I've been accused of lesbophobia for 1. Not liking Minthara and 2. Saying gender essentialism is TERFy, and that therefore a group of people who were being proud gender essentialists were being TERFs. (Don't believe me that it was literally because I don't like Minthara? Don't take my word for it- take theirs!)
Tumblr media
I got called a pedophile for making an omega Halsin headcanon that him wanting babies might cause a heat
I got called a rape supporter for talking about writing a fic where Halsin uses kink such as CNC to explore his trauma
I got sexually harassed by these "pro-survivor" fans:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I had people I considered friends block me over this believing that I am lesbophobic for calling gender essentialists TERFs
And then this "pro-survivor" group proceeded to mock my abuse from my mom. Which was so triggering for me that I had a flashback.
Tumblr media
And this, my friends, is why I am taking, if not a permanent Twitter hiatus, a very long one at the very least. Only an anti could claim to be supporting survivors by... mocking the abuse a real survivor endured, in order to defend a fictional character.

No one is saying "fiction doesn't affect reality".
What most of us have said is this:
× "Fiction doesn't affect reality on a 1:1 ratio."
× "Fiction is not reality and should not be treated as such."
× And "Real life, living, breathing human beings matter far more than any fictional character ever will."
Notice how NONE of that says "Fiction doesn't affect reality. Full stop. In any situation. Ever."
