steve and eddie are implied to have shit parents yet we haven't seen them, and they get babyfied by the fandom
we've seen billy get abused explicitly on-screen on multiple occasions and everyone makes him out to be worse than vecna and brenner

What's the difference between these three scenes?

All three of these examples are moments where the character that is being violent is doing so as a means of self defense in response to feeling threatened.

Rewatching Stranger Things again and I don't think enough people talk about how shitty it was of Susan to not speak up when Neil hit Billy and was demeaning him in front of her, like it really would have been as easy as her saying 'it's not Billy's fault Max snuck out'
And before anyone tries to pick a hole in this because they don't like Billy:
It was never indicated in the show that Max or Susan were scared of Neil hitting them or being aggressive with them so even though in that moment Neil was behaving aggressively, Susan had no reason to believe he would turn that aggression on her. And yes I know Neil canonically hit and abused his first wife but again there is absolutely no hinting at all that Neil has behaved aggressively towards Max or Susan.

Maybe that's a reach but...
Can we talk about how Dacre improvesed the cookie eating scene?
He said Billy had anxiety and we know some people eat when they feel anxious (like me). He was feeling anxious while "flirting" with Karen. So much so he stops acting for a split second and try to suppress his anxiety. Look at his eyes.
Also we know he was stressed after all this act. Look at him leaving the house. He's holding up the hand he holds the cookie. Why? My guess is him holding his pendant for a relief. Because I have my own comfort items too.
Look at his face. He can't stand this shit anymore.
Also the worse part is they literally put a song "I'm falling in love" behind this scenes. This was underage Billy trying to find his sister and flirting with an adult woman to do so. Because Mrs Wheeler ma'am didn't tell him where Maxine is in the first place. She literally waits there and watch him flirt and then give him the address. What an adult.

Something that will never fail to amuse me about anti-Billy Hargrove stans is just how much room he takes up inside your heads. You can't be on Tumblr for thirty seconds without thinking of him. You can't ever see something involving him and leave it alone. Its an obsession for you. el was able to escape from the lab and has a loving family now
the biggest thing that el and billy have in common is that both of them lash out in anger and violence

also not to mention that throughout the entire montage of el discovering billy's past you literally see her cry for him.

Billy got a backstory, and the fandom's favs didn't. I guess that's why they keep giving Eddie and Steve Billy's trauma, lightening their hair, beefing them up...
Because deep down they know Billy's a rich character. We know about his parents, we know about his life at home.
We know more about him than characters who've been present since season 1.
In ST, most characters have to depend on other characters to make up for their flatness.
Billy's fine on his own. In fact, he is the character that makes others look poor in comparison, in terms of characterization and depth. He's the one who makes other characters interesting. He gets characters like Steve to react.
Dacre's mind went far beyond what the Duffers could ever dream of. He saw that there was a story to tell, a story that could actually make Stranger Things more than a Sci fi show.
He's the reason Billy Hargrove didn't end up like Steve or Eddie. Billy didn't end up becoming a joke, and his death was actually significant to the story.
I'm glad Billy didn't get Steve's "redemption".
Billy Hargrove is great because of Dacre Montgomery. The less the Duffers have to do with a character, the better they turn out.
Dacre fought to flesh Billy out, and it's a really fucking weird thing to hate him for.
