Why don't you like Zinnia? Not hating, just curious 🧐

Ok why don't I like Zinnia? Pull up a seat because this is gonna be a long one.

Zinnia had a ton of potential as a character she was supposed to be the culmination on the themes of ORAS and Gen 3 in general, which is that extremism and being unable or unwilling to listen to a different point of view even if you’re doing good. Only results in pain, misery, and a stain on your ideology.

A woman who is one of the last descendants of an ancient tribe of Dragon tamers who worshipped Rayqayza as their savior and possibly god and one of the first Pokémon to Mega Evolve but hasn’t in generations, and now thanks to legends and prophecies knows that a meteor is coming to the planet to wipe out all life. But what truly motivated her to act was the death of Aster in order to be Lorekeeper and to put her plans into action.

That is all well and good but the problem is unless you read the supplemental material you will never find out this backstory but ok let’s leave the manga out of it.

What does she do in ORAS that makes me despise so much? Simple she not only joined but then gave info about Primal Groudon or Primal Kyogre to an extremist eco-terrorist group when she knows FULL WELL WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN THEY AWAKEN THOSE BEASTS TRUE POWER all just in a gambit to reawaken Rayquaza’s Mega form, a plan that wouldn’t have worked because the meteorite that Rayquaza is GONE so no mega Rayquaza so we would have been totally screwed twice over if Zinnia got her way and did she really take one moment to oh I don’t know.

Stop and think about what she was doing?! NO!! OF COURSE SHE DIDN’T!!!

See this machine right here? Yeah this machine in both Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire both Team Magma and Aqua were using this in conjunction with the meteorite which is the ONLY THING THAT CAN MAKE MEGA RAYQUAZA MEGA EVOLVE AND SAVE THE WORLD FROM A COMPLETE CATASTROPHE to make this volcano erupt(Which by the way that could screw up the Hoenn Region bad on its own, you ever think of that eh Zinnia?!)

It was only thanks to sheer fucking luck that the PC that’s you showed and handled things as well as they did that nothing bad happened, also when Groudon and Kyogre achieved Primal form Rayquaza was nowhere in sight. I know I beat this drum earlier but still it’s worth saying.

Now just a couple of weeks later in a act of desperation Zinnia starts stealing mega stones from various trainers including Maxie/Archie, Courtney/Matt, and Wally. Now scientists are trying to solve the aforementioned meteor problem when Zinnia just waltzes on in(Is there seriously no security in the Pokemon world?) and begins to explain that the multiverse through legends and stories(Now this part I don’t mind) I don’t even have a problem with the idea of her objecting to just teleporting it somewhere else and let that world take care of it/burn. No I have a problem with her extremism with not considering another option.

Now that is the main theme I get that BUT! Maxie and Archie had an entire game to set up and try to make sense of their philosophies, whereas Zinnia who despite the fact she is in the game and we could talk to her at any time, she only shows up three times in the base game. Because she only gets to star in Episode Delta she has lay down so many exposition dumps and asking you questions about truth or ideals that aside from being a reference means nothing in the end.

She can’t develop her personality all that well, so I didn’t care about her story, but I did care about Hoenn.

Also I found her battle to be very easy IMO so it didn’t really impress me.

But the worst part if the fact that she suffers NO CONSEQUENCES for her actions in this game and considering GF’s usual pattern she is never returning.

Again the world was saved thanks to quote Two Face blind, stupid, simple, doodah, clueless luck that Hoenn and the rest of the world was saved.

So yeah sorry this took so long to answer but I hope regardless if you agree or disagree you liked this.

On a side note her theme and battle themes are real slappers. =)

oooo the champion battle between red and blue..blue’s words “you’re now looking at the new pokemon champion. Do you know what that means, ___? I am the strongest trainer in the world!” haunt me, and it cuts to battle, like imagining being in reds shoes and facing such an opponent (and there was no jhoto or sinnoh or other regions so at that time, blue truly WAS the strongest trainer in the world) i am shook still

that same battle in Pokemon Origins is just as good and the whole thing is just beautifully animated, along with charizard and reds battle with mewtwo

charizard vs entei, charizard vs articuno (i remember watching this for the first time, i was SO into it). pikachu vs raichu, uhhh the regional battle in...kalos i think, with greninja . intense. may vs drew where they had..flygon absol vs squirtle and combusken HOOH
