POST PLUS IS COMING, WHETHER YOU WANT IT OR NOT!
Despite the fancy survey, changes to the UI and TOS reveal we’re getting the service in the future whether we want it or not. Obviously, Post+ is a terrible idea that is trying to bank revenue on user content. Unlike patreon or onlyfans, tumblr’s primary focus is on FAN content. The legality of this is NOT in the users favor and as the new tumblr TOS states, said users will be entirely liable for whatever legal matters arise.
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING?
Besides filling out the survey, it’s time to show tumblr we mean business and show our displeasure by hitting them where it hurts.
Ad revenue.
We’re proposing a 24 hour log off as phase one of this protest.

Post+, the basics on why you shouldn't use it and why you should participate in the protest
What even is Post+?
Post+ is a way to block your content behind a paywall and have people pay to see it. There's more details, but that's the gist of it.
Why is this such a bad idea?
A huge chunk of Tumblr is fan works, I myself have a fan role play blog. Putting this content behind a paywall is literally illegal and going to get you sued, yet Tumblr is encouraging people who post fan works to use it.
Why can't people who post fan works just not use it?
1, Not all people know the legal details of what they are and are not allowed to make money of off. 2, Post+ could put people who post fan works without using Post+ in danger as well if Tumblr starts to be considered a moneymaking site.
What can I do to help stop this?
First, fill out the survey @staff put out with why Post+ is a bad idea. Second, join in on the protests! This involves logging off for different periods of time. It stops Tumblr from making ad revenue, if this Post+ stuff is losing them money they'll get rid of it.
But I have an ad blocker?
The protests aren't just about ad revenue, it's also about messing with the algorithm. If no one is there to post, that messes with the algorithm as well as ad revenue. Though an ad blocker does help!
What if I can't protest?
That's understandable, there's still other ways you can help! 1, help spread awareness of the protests by posting about it, use the hashtags #PostPlusProtest and #TumblrLogOff2021, 2, don't post that day if you would usually post, and 3, turn on your ad blocker.

Why can’t you monetize your fan content?
Because you are creating it based on copyrighted material which you do not own the rights to.
It doesn’t matter how much time, effort, energy, or money you spent creating it. You are not allowed to make money from it.
In fact, the only reason why the copyright holder can’t stop you from creating this content is that you are not making money of it. And trust me, if they could stop you, they would. They have tried and failed before, and they failed only because no one was making any money.
The above goes for gifs, videos, edits, screen shots, virtual photography, fanfiction, and all the rest. The intellectual property might be yours, but that does not supersede the rights of the copyright holder.
No one in this equation cares if you think this is unfair or stupid or whatever other justification you come up with. It’s still illegal and you will still get into legal and financial trouble for it.

Tumblr recently announced a new feature called Post+ meant to help content creators make money while keeping a cut to help maintain the site. Not a bad idea, right?
The problem is that tumblr actively encouraged the use of Post+ in conjunction with fan works. Which is, despite the way they continue to side step it, highly illegal. Not enough people are aware of that fact.
Our mission is to force tumblr to either rebrand the Post+ feature as something for original content ONLY and/or offer a means to help the site survive outside of monetizing fan work. We want the see tumblr thrive but Post+ has the potential for ruining everything. Give us a better option, @staff ! In fact, HERE are some options!
