I Finally Watched Encanto
And it was very underwhelming. I don't get what the hype was about. It was mid at best. The best thing about it was probably the visuals. Oh, I loved the variety of skin tones! Usually, I don't care about skin colour in movies but for some reason, it stood out to me in this one. The intro and outro scenes were good too.
I am not a film expert so I can't convey what made the film fall flat for me. But here are some things that I found lacking:
The music is not memorable and I found it hard to immerse myself in it. I absolutely hated Surface Pressure. Some parts of We Don't Talk About Bruno were nice to listen to but it still wouldn't make the top 10 of my Disney songs list. It's not a song I would sing to myself. I can't even remember any of the lyrics besides the title namesake. I think my favourite piece was the Caterpillar song that played for Abuela Alma and Pedro. Maybe partly because it's in Spanish so I have lower expectations for it lol. Since I barely speak Spanish and all.
The family members kind of felt like plot devices? That just appeared when the plot called for it? I am not sure how to explain it but the main culprit for me was Isabela. She was basically a nothing character who was just there in the background being a prima donna and rolling her eyes. Then once Mirabel supposedly has to confront her, she has all this major development in like 2 mins and finally cracks? Luisa was way better because I saw her insecurities and how weakness made her feel worthless throughout the movie. I don't understand why Cousin Camilo was needed in the movie. His dad was good enough comic relief. I loved Antonio at the start and his relationship with Mirabel. I wanted to see that relationship more in the movie so much. But then even he began to feel like a cheap plot device.
How Bruno was handled was unsatisfying. The whole plot about Bruno just felt contrived. Bruno is supposed to be the family undesirable who no one talks about...but Dolores knew about him the entire time? The ending with Abuela and Bruno felt so rushed too. I thought the climax would have involved Bruno more but he just showed up at the end and now everything is ok? Bruno was just a way to show Mirabel how special she was and once that happened, everything about Bruno was wrapped up in a neat tidy bow.
The plot development was poor and felt like a plot in an adventure game. Gave me similar vibes to the plot in The Rise of Skywalker. How Luisa just happens to know Mirabel's starting point. How Mirabel just happens to find Bruno when the dude has been living unnoticed for how long. Even the ending with the butterfly almost made me roll my eyes.
The powers felt underdeveloped. I don't understand the limits of them and why only the Madrigals have them. Well, I guess it makes sense for the family to have the miracle to themselves as a kind of comfort for Pedro dying...like men don't sacrifice themselves for their families nobly all the time. How much weight can Luisa lift? What is the range of Pepa's powers? Mirabel said in her song that her mood affects the weather but the movie mainly shows the weather just affects her individual space. How do they control them? What if someone abuses their powers?
Anyway, its not a bad movie but I wouldn't watch it again. I preferred Coco over Encanto. The family relationship felt more developed and the focus was just on the family members relevant to the plot. The Abuela in Coco was more sympathetic and the generational trauma was way more justified there. Plus the music was better and the plot development felt more organic. I would watch Coco again. Encanto is just meh and seems a tad overrated.

city life au: The kids are so used to getting exotic things on their birthdays the month before AND during their birth month that when it's their actual birthday they really don't care. Plus they are so exhausted from going to place to place with Bruno that they just want to sleep on their birthday.

Isabela remembering the shoes she got from Egypt and the dress she got from Spain "oh...thanks" she says trying to seem excited and polite

Fact one: Oh yeah, Luisa got 3 puppies on her 13th birthday and she tries to spend as much time as she can with them.
Fact two: Camilo is so used to eating exotic food that he can't stand Arepas anymore
Fact 3: Mirabel and the others made a large Chinese dragon puppet to celebrate the Chinese new year in china. It looks like the one below but it's only a little shorter than that. Luisa and Isabela couldn't come but Dolores made sure to take some pictures
Fact 4: Dolores invited Mariano to Bruno's home so she can make it clear to everyone to who he belongs to. (Bruno being a dad had a stern talk with the boy). Mariano was quite confused but soon understood the situation once Dolores explained to him what was going on.
I'm out of facts for right now but I'll think of more. I also like to think that maybe the kids go on Indiana jones type adventures but they somehow always make it back at the end of the day.
But Mirabel is sometimes the only one that has the time for these adventures. When she gets back she tells her siblings and the town kids about it.
Agustin and Felix find these stories awfully suspicious since the grandkids(or at least Mirabel) never had interests in the outside world but now they have random stories about adventures in the countries they've "never been to"? suspicious.

Also??? Love Chinese culture, especially their clothes <33333 shoutout to my oc Ying-hua, because I lob her and her hanfu <333 Nice to see how the grandkids slowly start to get bored of things at home; they still love it, don’t get them wrong, but they want to go see so many other things the world has to offer. There are so many other beautiful cultures out there, and with their ability to see them, I can see why they would be so eager to go.

So you and Camilo had been dating for a while (around 5 months)
But you had only been to a Madrigal dinner like once when he first introduced you to the family.
Now would be the second time you were going to have dinner with la familia Madrigal and you were a nervous wreck
Although you knew them from the town and - occasionally - helped them out with chores, you still didn't know them
Especially Alma Madrigal
Oh boy did she scare you shitless
When the two of you arrived he sat you down next to him and his older sister right in the middle of the table
Opposite of Isabela
No offence to her, she was gorgeous and you were sure she was so sweet and nice
Didn't mean she didn't scare you as she stared you down
You awkwardly laughed and looked to the side, squeezing Camilo's hand lightly (a habit you had actually picked up from him when he was nervous)
To your luck, Julieta and Mirabel placed the food on the table and the dinner had finally begun
Camilo grabbed you a big portion and (obviously) an even bigger portion for himself
Small talk and chatter filled the room for a good 20 minutes in during eating
You didn't really join in, only replying to questions asked towards you and making small comments about how good the food was here and there
You were trying to focus on a single conversation but found it difficult due to the amount of them being made around you
Until you did and just so happened to be Agustín's (maybe sad) attempt at making a joke
More so a dad joke
But luckily for him!
You secretly loved dad jokes
"Hey kids!"
"What papá?"
"What's the best thing about Switzerland?"
"Oh god not another dad joke-"
"Come oooon! What's the best thing about it?!"
"Uhhhh what is it?"
"I don't know, but the flag is a big plus"
And as if on que everyone in the room stops talking
AWKWARD SILENCE
It just reeked of it as everyone was eyeing Agustín
Poor man was the only one laughing at his own (kinda bad) joke
Until you opened your mouth
And you just started laughing really really hard
We're talking about the 'i have to clench my stomach and wipe my tears' laugh
Agustín naturally just started laughing harder since at least one person found his joke funny
Bruno couldn't help himself but laugh when he heard your laughter
And soon enough everyone just started joining in and laughing as hard as you and Agustín were
Your laugh was so contagious it was pretty hard not to join in
Camilo always thought of your laugh as pretty (sometimes a little too loud but otherwise pretty)
You on the other hand had always been self conscious about your laugh
Some girl had said you had a 'if a chicken had a love baby with a donkey' laugh when you were like 6
And ever since then you had a fake laugh to cover up your real laugh
But because of Agustín you couldn't hold it in and now everyone was laughing along with you
"See?! Y/N, they have taste!" Camilo's tio let out as everyone was catching their breath
"They don't but okay-"
"What? It was funny!" you let out with a small giggle still thinking about the joke
"You're just so cute!" Camilo exclaimed next to you, leaning over to pinch your cheeks
"No, I sound like the chicken's and donkey's love baby" you frowned
"Y/N that was when we were 6 now we're 15"
"It still sounds like that though-"
"Antonio!" Pepa shushed her son and motioned for Camilo to continue
"Still.." your frown deepened
"Mi vida you and your laugh are the cutest thing to ever exist on this world" he pecked your forehead and moved in to peck your lips
But
"Ahem!" Abuela coughed loudly, side eyeing both you and Camilo
But she failed to hide the content and knowing smile that was growing on her lips
You noticed how late it was and kind of panicked because last time you came super late to your house and your parents accidently locked you out
And then you had to awkwardly make your way back to Casita and crash at Camilo's room (with parental supervision of course)
"It's really late I think I should be going now. Thank you for having me over and thank you for the delicious food!" you smiled as you stood up, the Madrigal family standing up in turn
"Thank you dear for coming, I'm glad you enjoyed your time here" Abuela said warmly
This woman wasn't as scary as you thought she would be
You proceeded to hug each family member and made your way to the exit of the house
Hand in hand with Camilo the two of you walked back to your house where he dropped you off (after making sure you weren't locked out again)
"Thank you for inviting me" you let out softly
"Thank you for accepting" he smiled cheekily and moved to kiss you
"Ahem!" you mocked Abuela when he was only inches away from your lips
The both of you laughed and he moved in again to finally kiss you
The two of you pulled away and rested your foreheads on each others, both of you smiling like idiots
"I really love your laugh by the way did I ever tell you that?"
You laughed, lifting a hand up to his head to caress his hair
"Yeah you've said it about 100 times"
"Well then make it 101 because I really do"
And with that he kissed you tenderly once more before you both called it a night
The dinner didn't go so bad after all

Apparently Encanto have taken over my whole life :)
I have watch it over 10 times (I mean gotta milk that Disney plus subscription, it ain't cheap hahahaha) so here's some little details that I love:
Pepa picking Bruno up when she hugged him.
How insanely in love Felix's is. We all deserve a Felix in our life.
Agustín's "miércoles" which is usually how in Spanish we deflect the word "mierda" that means "shit".
During "the family Madrigal", outside of it being part of the choreography, Mirabel instead of knocking super hard Dolores's door, she just lightly knocks her door with her hip. I like to belive that it's with the intention of not bothering Dolores.
I don't know, haha I just really like how Isabela uses her powers. And besides I love the animation in her flowers (those bugambilias are gorgeoussss)
Camilo's little moments of worrying and taking care of the family. Like when casita is destroyed one of the first things we hear is him worried about his baby brother.
Little personal thing, but the orquids that Isabela has on her bed are exact same flowers that my dad grows for me, every year on my birthday they bloom.
This is a post that I guess that I will be editing and adding more things with time hahaha.

The marimba, if you haven't heard marimba music for parties, you are really missing out. It is such a huge part for the Latino culture, I think is one of those things that are almost in every Latin American country and I personally really love it, for me it means weddings, festivities and celebration. It can be super active, it can be romantic, it can be background music, it can be the main instrument, I love whenever media includes it, because now that I think about it is not really that feature in movies/series.
Luisa, always the protector, taking care of abuela when casita was breaking down.

Encanto Headcanons Part 2
Remember that one headcanon about Agustin and Felix doing tickle fights with everyone all the time? Well, Julieta and Pepa are just as prone to tickling their kids and get their revenge on their husbands whenever they can.
The triplets often fought over one pacifier when they were babies. Alma would purposely give them one pacifier because she found it so entertaining.
Speaking of the pacifier, the reason why Pepa has a tooth gap and Julieta and Bruno don’t is because she was the last of the triplets to give up the pacifier. Alma indulged in this habit for longer than needed just to keep Pepa quiet due to her constant crying. She stopped using it during the day at three, but continued using it for sleep until she was four.
Pepa has told Felix about this when embarrassing childhood stories came up, and he once asked her if she still had her pacifier as a joke. He almost got zapped by lightning that day.
Isabela would put her cacti in other people’s chairs just to mess with them. Camilo found this hilarious and wanted to join in the fun.
The rest of the family became weary after the first ten times and checked their chairs before sitting down every time.
Everyone loves to talk about how Bruno was super close with his sisters and spent so much one-on-one time with each of them, but what about Julieta and Pepa? Well, those girls were just as inseparable, maybe even more. They did EVERYTHING together.
Julieta and Pepa even told each other about their crushes on Agustin and Felix respectively before they told Bruno.
The reason why they’re so close is because they balance each other out so well. Julieta helps Pepa keep composure and helps her stay mature when needed, while Pepa brings out Julieta’s inner child and helps her loosen up, be silly, and have fun.
Since we know that Isabela and Dolores are only a couple weeks apart in age, Julieta and Pepa planned to have their first pregnancies together so they can help each other through it and neither one has to be alone during the process. They even picked out baby names together.
Baby Mirabel was Luisa’s go-to vent buddy when it came to venting about her day or if she needed someone to cry to about being pushed on the playground. You’d be surprised how good of a listener baby Mirabel was.
Everyone loves mama’s boy Camilo, daddy’s girl Dolores, and daddy’s girl Luisa, but honestly, daddy’s girl Mirabel! It explains why they have the exact same klutzy and adorkable personality. Plus, them being the glasses-duo makes it even cuter.
To further expand on that, it’s been a pattern within the Madrigal grandkids that they have a closer bond with the parent of the opposite sex.
Julieta noticed this and felt bad. So, she would take some time out of her day a few nights a week to bond with and get to know her daughters better and suggested Pepa to do the same with Dolores and Felix with Camilo and Antonio.
This eventually led to weekly "girl's nights" and "guy's nights" within the family.
Agustin and Felix were the most frequent guests at their daughters’ tea parties, because we all know they are A+ dads like that.
Camilo is just as bad at keeping secrets as his sister. Remember that Disney Cruise Line commercial with the line "but mommy calls him a little souvenir"? Well, that was ten-year-old Camilo talking about baby Antonio one time at a town cook-out before Pepa and Felix could stop him ("This is my baby brother. His name is Antonio, but Mami calls him a happy little accident").
All the Madrigal grandkids would wrestle Bruno to the ground constantly when they were toddlers. When Bruno came back, they continued this so Antonio can join in the fun too. Bruno doesn’t mind, though, because he knows it means he’s still loved.

Favorite hc of mine is that Bruno will have triplets. Each of them with a gift just as taboo as his.
-seeing the dead as spirits walking among them. Able to speak to them. It’s great whenever you need closure, but when the spirits start to say things that the client doesn’t like, well…
-Traveling back in time. Because leading people back to their happiest memories is great, but like seeing the dead, they are sometimes faced with things they weren’t ready to handle. Plus, being held back or forced back to the present from a child because you can’t interfere would probably make some people mad.
-Psychometry. Because they can touch anything inanimate and know it’s past. Good or bad, there is no filter whenever the flood of emotions and events come flying to the child. Not always what the person wants to hear.
It’s something I think would really make the family close and even bring Bruno a slight boost of bravery because he knows what its like and he doesn’t want his children to feel useless because everyone else doesn’t understand.

I really see him having triplets as well!! Maybe two boys and a girl because HE WOULD BE SO MUCH IN LOVE WITH HER, LIKE LOOK AT HER TOES AND LITTLE SQUISHY FACE AHHH!! I just pity the one who will carry them lmao
But let's not lie, Bruno would be SHAKING WITH ANXIETY!! Like... These are HIS kids and he doesn't want anything happening to them, and definetly doesn't want the village look down them if they have a bad gift. His sisters and even mother would try to calm him down, saying that no matter what their gifts would be, they would be loved by every single one of family.
( Pepa and Mirabel had a hidden weapon somewhere in their room to beat people up... Pepa would be their favourite aunt since she can make snowballs and you know the kids: They love playing in the snow.)
For the two kids with "Seeing the dead" and "Psychometry" gifts, the first thing they saw would be their Abuelo Pedro who was grinning and making thumbs at his grandchildren happily and the kids would be in awe with their shocked cute mouths because if Mirabel idolized Alma, those kids IDOLIZED PEDRO!! When their Abuela told them the story behind the gift, they'd cry into her warm embrace because their Abula suffered so much and saw her love die in front of her!!( Look at them being cuties gsıfıusıudcsu)
And when they'd turn to look at their Abuela to tell what they saw, the one with seeing the dead would just freeze because there was way too much ghosts. They would whimper in fear and look for their siblings and BAM! PROTECTIVE DAD BRUNO AND MOM READER ACTIVATED!! before they'd react though, the other one of the three just... disappeared? And then appear back, gave Bruno a heart attack, caused him to almost faint while yelling that Abuelo and Abuela was so pretty and handsome and they'd babble about them while Alma was telling their gifts to town's people.
( Casita being Pedro's soul, looking after his family is canon to me. I accept no argument!)
I agree with the side effects! Like seeing dead people would be so traumatizing to his kid that he'd feel helpless at the beginning because... How do you comfort someone- that someone being your own precious girl- who can see dead?
Or seeing what happened to an object through touching? The kid would want to wear gloves so that they wouldn't have to see them all the time.
One time, a grieving man came to Casita to see his dead wife again, commanding( I repeat COMMANDING, FROM A LITTLE KID) to let them see her again, Bruno would stand his ground in front of his kid and the whole family would be there too. The man would try to touch the kid forcefuly and... that would stay as a bad memory...
( Whereas the other one with seeing the dead giggle and say that Abuelo Pedro was trying to hold back the woman from pounding on her husband with some other dead town's people bsujfbj)

now for another headcanon post, but this time I'm gonna focus on the Madrigal grandkids- more specifically, their future families of their own!
(side note 1- yes I know that "happily ever after" doesn't always mean getting married and having kids. and side note 2- I am very much aware of various sexuality headcanons and this is not to "straight-wash" anybody. these are all simply my lighthearted opinions, take them as you will)
starting off with Dolores (and Mariano, they do canonically get married)- even though the whole "he wants five babies" thing was confirmed to be Dolores messing with her cousin, they probably would have at LEAST four or five kids. a decent mix of boys and girls, but their first two would be twins, one of each! also Mariano would be the type of husband to obsessively want to help Dolores when she's pregnant
Luisa would definitely have all boys, probably only two. this isn't because of her super strength, I really think she'd want to raise two very respectful and emotive boys. she'd make a point to teach them that it's okay to cry. plus, Luisa would be a great soccer mom.
Isabela is tough, if any of them were to not have kids I'd say it'd be her. though I did see an artist who drew Isa with a son (I think her husband is said to die when her son is a baby. very sad :( ) and I think it would suit her well. she'd have him in her early/mid thirties. another random note but she would be very snappy during childbirth, NOBODY would want to get in her way lmao
Camilo gives me dad of three vibes, whether it's girl boy girl, or boy girl boy. he would also be a fantastic uncle, as he's great with kids. his kids would all be VERY energetic, but also loving and sweet.
obviously this one would be FAR down the road, but Antonio would probably be more of a pet dad for a while. if/when he does have kids of his own, I think he'd probably have two daughters! hard to tell though, considering he was five in the movie hahaha
and lastly is Mirabel. (TW: slightly implied child loss) I kinda pictured two different routes for her to be honest! she seemed to really like kids, and I think she'd be a great mom! she might take after her abuela- considering Mirabel seems to be the family's new matriarch- and have triplets! I think it'd be a cool "full-circle" kinda thing. but the other route I had in mind was that she actually had a bit of trouble having kids for a bit. she eventually has a literal Miracle Baby, a daughter that she loves with all her heart.

Okay...... Encanto. Watch it in theaters if you can. Spoilers below the cut. This is on plot and characters(Except Abuela). A bit on songs too. I realized that I was gonna need another post for this one XD
I present to thee, Encanto Rant, Parte Uno
It is amazing, by far one of my favorite Disney movies. Las canciones are just amazingggggggggg. This is consecutive day SEVEN of 'We Don't Talk About Bruno' stuck in my head. The music alone is a masterpiece and I love being able to hear hints of Lin in the music.
Encanto is an amazing story about family and relationships, and it brings up a multi-generational dynamic that is present in so many hispanic families. On top of that, there are so many 'easter eggs' that just shows how much they put into making it feel authentic. There is a moment with Mirabel's dad and he says "Mierrrcoles" and I nearly screamed. It's like the Spanish version of "fuuuuuuuuuuu- dge cookies". I cannot believe that I saw it in a Disney movie.
THE COLOR, the visual design was stunning. I really think they perfected that tech with Moana and have only advanced it from there. The opening scene is stunning, the lighting, the curls, absolutely amazing.
One thing that I think stood out about this movie as well was the choreography. The dance and various sequences. They went all out and it was amazing to watch. Two of my favorites choreo wise are Surface Pressure(Luisa's song) and We Don't Talk About Bruno.
Now... onto the story and characters...
Mirabel! Angel, one of my favorite Disney princesses. One of my favorite things about the story of this movie is how everything clicks into place for her to become the family matriarch after Abuela Alma. Mirabel was the first Madrigal not to receive a gift but who else never got one? Abuela. But then what is Abuela's job? Protect the miracle. What does Mira do? Protect the miracle. The movie develops this wonderfully and I love it so much.
Julieta and Agustín! Lovely dynamic, and I love Julieta's power! She reminds me so much of my own mom. There's a point where she's with Mirabel and they are having a mother-daughter moment and Julieta rubs her nose on Mirabel's affectionately and that is something I do all the time with my mom. That feeling, it's like home. Another thing that I cannot believe is in a Disney movie.
Antonio! Another angel, I love him so much. His relationship with Mirabel is so heart-warming and it felt so real. And his introduction in the movie was amazing.
Tía Pepa and Tío Félix! I love them so so so much! Tía Pepa also looks just like my Spanish teacher, who is Columbian. Same hair(color and texture) and skin and everything. 'Twas amazing. Their relationship and Pepa's dynamic her power is amazing.
Luisa and Isabella! The brawn and beauty! The three of them are such believable sisters, honestly. Luisa's song hits extra hard for me as an older sister, so I'm a bit biased. And Isabella's own struggles with the family pressure line up with the rest of them so we'll, which adds even more to that family dynamic that makes this movie work so well. Plus Isa's song, What Else Can I Do, has one of my favorite rhymes: "Flor de Mayo by the mileeeee"
Camilo! Minor character, lovable character. I love him and his voice. God his voice. His part in WDTAB is absolutely fascinating, just aghhhhhh. Anyways. Love his design in general and loved his powers incorporation into the movie (ie when the Casita is falling apart and he is jumping around, using his powers but he suddenly shifts back to himself and the Casita has to break his fall).
Dolores! First off, RHYMES, "My cousin Dolores can hear this whole chorus a mile away" and her entire part in WDTAB. One of my favorite details about her is how she speaks so low, even when she's rapping. Her soft voice works so well, kudos to Adassa, who voiced her.
Anyways, this detail is amazing because of her power, which is basically super hearing. Of course she would talk lower. And there's a part after– you guessed!– We Don't Talk About Bruno, where the family is screaming and fighting and all she can do is press her hands against her ears to try and shut it out. It is heart wrenching among the chaos. Also love her character design, her dress is awesome.
Now, we don't talk about Bruno, no, no, no, no. We don't talk about Brunoooo- But!
I love him. They did amazing with his character, he could have gone wrong on a ton of ways(as Mirabel could have). He could have been petulant, bitter, idiotic, etc. I mean, he ran away by not running and started living in the walls of his families house while still having dinner with them every night. That coulda gone wrong in so many ways. I just loooove him. His introduction was amazing and perfectly met everything that had been built up to that moment.
And?? He just seems like a good person?? Abuela had drilled into all of them that their gift was to be used to help the village, and with a very specific idea of what helping would be. I keep imagining Bruno thinking "Well, this is my gift and I'm meant to use it" and going to random villagers to tell them they're fish would die or that they'd grow a gut. Even to the point where he'd just say stuff ("It looks like rain") and he is antagonized(not saying anything bad about Pepa, weddings are stressful and she prolly had Abuela hovering over her).
Plus his character has all sorts of little mannerisms that jussttttt aaaaaa I love it.

Phoebe loved Disney movies. Ever since she was a kid. So Disney plus was a dream come true and a new Disney movie was a fun way to spend her Saturday afternoon, cuddled with a reluctant Marcus.
Though he found himself enjoying the movie.
"Marcus? Marcus are you crying?" She asked with a small smile near the end.
"No, no." He sniffed, "It's just, something in my eye. I feel bad for Isabella because she tried so hard to be perfect and her grandmother punished her and Mirabel."
"Her grandmother did accept in the end, when she realised it was good for the family." Phoebe said. She knew this wasn't about the movie.
Marcus paused, "Yes. I suppose that's why Disney movies are fun. They're unrealistic."
She wrapped her arms around Marcus and kissed his cheek, "You are a brilliant doctor and person and your dad is stupid if he doesn't realize that."
"I don't do as he says."
"Yes and you're happier for it." Phoebe pointed out, "What use is perfection if you're miserable?"
Marcus nodded in agreement, "You're right. It's why I love you."
"I love you too. Now, we're going to watch Tangled because you need cheering up." Phoebe said.

You know what.
agustin is my absolute favorite character in encanto ever. And I think I realized why. there r like three reasons.
number the first hes literally my dad.
number two he looks a lot like Logan from sanders sides. The slick back hair, the glasses, the tie and all of that.
number three though, hes much more like Patton in his actions. He’s very silly, accident prone and expressive. (plus hes like… a dad) so it’s very fitting.
Now I also love his like messages where he tries to be really smart but falls short. Like when he’s explaining to Mirabel that shes normal after his bee stings. Plus his interactions with Julietta is amazing. The most definable thing to for me is when alma is telling Him to think of the family and he does the “i was thinking of my daughter” the way he didn’t hesitate. he looked offended and hurt and as if he would fight for her. Even to his mother in law. He would never leave his daughters sides and he unconditionally loved his family. He would go as far as the ends of the earth for them. But he’s kind and hes loving and funny. but anyway.

Hi there Maxwell/Mirabelle! That’s an amazing question!
I have thought about this for a loooooong time, I could never make up my mind! It’s fun and crazy and it feels embarrassing to put myself out there this way but...ok, here we go.
This feels so indulgent to write these! But whatever! I will do my best to steer away from people I usually write-else I would totes pair myself with Sam Castell and Ben’s character in The Woman in White but that’s for me to share with y.all as we live as Y/N). But short answer to those, maybe they get tired of their previous ladies and before any commitments are made drop them to be with me (poor Laura gets a divorce and moves back home). Then we get to move out of the colonies to England out of harm or away from the drama of that home into a peaceful life together (and for Sam Castell, I think we should adopt Mercy as our daughter so she is no longer a servant and finally lives as a lady with a loving family. Even though Mercy is irl taller than me she is my baby)
Now for different fandoms.
First off, starting strong, for the Star Wars fandom, i ship myself with prequel era Obi Wan. He’s kind, handsome, intelligent. We discuss deep things and history, lore, how people work. I listen to him complain about Anakin and laugh. I don’t know what my job would be in that world, but somehow we cross paths and connect and he insists going to the Space Opera is not a date (since I love it ofc). But it’s a date. So we go and connect. It becomes a stable secret romance. I find out he survives Order 66 and follow him to where he is hiding and we are finally married and live quiet, peaceful lives in the desert there.
Then we have another celeb crush of mine, Henry Cavill. How about I am with him when he is Sherlock in the Enola Holmes universe. I could be a big sister figure to Enola, hired to help her out (like a governess) when her mom’s away or even to be an occasional companion. So then I run into her big brother and we wind up hitting it off and courting. Someitmes figuring out bits of clues together. Co-parenting Enola, almost.
(DAMN he’s beautiful!!!)
Okay, next celeb crush, Tom Hiddleston. How about I pair myself with Prince Hal from the Hollow Crown? Maybe the king decides to bring me to court to influence him from his frat boy ways. I would be annoyed by his immaturity and he by me being uptight until I help him out and join him with Falstaff or he makes me laugh or I help him, etc. Then the King suggests a betrothal, to both of our surprises. IT’s never confirmed. But as he matures, he becomes better and better. He could teach me how to ride a horse and I could help with politics and war in a way. So then he tells his father to go ahead and bethroth us.
Speaking of Shakespeare, since I have become obsessed with the Bard lately, I would ship myself with Edgar from King LEar (yes, I know Gwil played him so that’s cheating, but hear me out)
Here’s the scenario, which I low key thought of making of fanfic of, actually.
My family and i are brought to House Glouchester. But on the ride my parents reveal the real reason: I am going o be betrothed to Edgar. They are a powerful family and I can’t lose anything. IT connects them. Plus the son is a young, handsome heir and godson to a king!
So I walk out and Lord Glouchestor loves and embraces me and tells me to call me father and see him as a father, etc. Edgar is more shy and awkward. Edmund might hit on me, but I politely turn him down.
Edgar doesn’t know much about flirting with girls. He let’s me watch him practice fighting, we eat together and go to balls with the Lear family in tow (and I befriend Cordelia because she’s a boss ass bitch and amazing). Edgar even gives me some gifts as tokens. We find ourselves falling in love.
Then the plot happens. Edgar is cast away and runs off, Edmund convinces him that it’s better for me and he is convinced himself he is no longer worthy of me. Once he vanishes, Edmund is like “huh, I dunno. He was just plotting to kill dad. So does that mean you get passed onto me???”
And I go “no way!” And run off to find him.
I eventually find Edgar, disguised as the mad beggar, and he snaps out of his feigned madness and embraces me with tears.
Later, I find the now blinded Glouchester. Glouchestor mourn that he will not have or see the beautiful wedding he had planned for his son and me, including everything he would have done (decorated the halls and chambers with flowers, give Edgar his cloak, give me a ring that belonged to Edgar’s mother, etc.).
Once Edgar reveals himself to his dad, he cries tears of happiness as he lays dying. I promise to him to marry his son and be as good a wife as ever. He dies smiling.
Once Edgar defeats Edmund, in spite of the tragedy of losing his family, the Lear’s, and the responsibility of becoming king, I decide I will not leave him and will join him in hand as king.
“Do you want this to become queen?” he asks.
“I would have married you as the beggar” I reply. Though saddened by the loss of lives, we are both hopeful for a new future together.
So....yeah! That’s who I ship myself with!

I humbly present for your consideration a what if:
Ellas biological father is Bruno Madrigal. After he had the Vision of Casita falling apart he actually did run away from the Encanto and wound up meeting and falling In love with Cecilia.
But he was haunted hy horrible visions of a Dark Curse in Ellas future. Eventually he had started to believe that maybe he actually did Cause bad things to happen, and he thought leaving would protect his daughter from the curse that he foresaw.
So he left.
He returned to his family home in time to help repair their damaged relationships before the family was irreversibly broken.
But of course he always regretted leaving new family and often wondered how Ella and Cecellia were fairing.
He always hoped that by leaving he had prevented whatever twist of fate that would lead to the cursed fate he had forseen his daughter but in fact it was the opposite.
By leaving he left a hole in their Family that was eventually filled by Marcus Tremaine.
Eventually the whole Encanto, including the Madrigal Family were caught up in Drizellas curse, and after the curse was Broken, Bruno began searching for his daughter.
Well it certainly explains why Ella is so short. Lol. And with Bruno as her bio dad, Ella gets not one but three dads! Cause of, you know, Hernando and Jorge. Sorry, bad joke. Hahaha.
I do have a couple of questions regarding plot. For starters, it seems out of character for Bruno to stay away from Ella for so long. I understand why he left. Which is so sad BTW. Poor Bruno! Why must he endure so much? Anyway, I would think that after the rebuilding of Casita Bruno would go looking for Ella. Maybe this is just my interpretation of the movie, but doesn't Bruno learn to believe that he doesn't cause bad things to happen?
Second question. Timeline. I'm assuming the grandkids are the same age they were when Bruno left in the movie? Isabel and Dolores (11), Louisa (9), Camilo and Mirabel (5), and Antonio not born yet. And Bruno was still gone for 10 years. And at some point during that decade, he had Ella. Ella doesn't know anything about her bio dad, so she would have had to have been very very young when Bruno left. For conversation sake, let's say Ella was a baby when Bruno left and was 10 when he was helping to rebuild Casita. And then it's another 13 years before Ella meets Henry. So it's 13 years for the Madrigals as well. Then Isabela and Dolores would be 34, Louisa would be 32, Camilo and Mirabel would be 28, and Antonio would be 18. Plus there's around a decade before the curse is cast. Then 2 years under the curse. Your telling me that for 35 years Bruno stayed away from his daughter? Granted that for the cursed years he wouldn't have known he even had a daughter. But for 33 years Bruno stayed away from Ella? Bruno? The same Bruno who loved his family so much that he lived in the walls of Casita for 10 years so that he could still be close to his family. And I'm supposed to believe he stayed away from his own daughter for more than 3 decades? Why must you break my heart like this? 😢
Personally, I will be sticking to my Tiana's father is also Ella's father headcanon. But I do like this. It's very interesting and has a lot of discussion potential. Like if Ella could've had her door ceremony, what would her gift had been? I would say it would've had something to do with swords.
