I love snuffy so much because it really shows you what it feels like to be on the other side of extreme egoistic ideology with no balance. Snuffy and Isagi are rational egoists, people who understand that you cant be a bigheaded jackass all the time and that only practice makes perfect. But with Isagi..hes still just starting out. He has only seen overshooting amd overestimating on small scales ro the point where most times HE looks like the villan crushing peoples small hopes..
And ego is just pushing this further and further, altering the bllk boys mindsets and what Isagi deems as success. He isn't really giving them any back ups because similar to Mick's situation..once you get a taste for a certain amount of success you can't fathom dialing it back even if you're set to crash and burn from how little you're taking care of yourself.
Snuffy has seen this play out. He's seen this type of behavior. And for the first time in the main blue lock story it's being shown through another character in a nefarious and truly dangerous light. Like we all laugh at the weird kinda cringe lines that Isagi says but it hasn't been contextualized in story yet because no one else thinks it's weird to say shit like
Tumblr media
Well that. So for Snuffy to be so adverse to and cautious of that go big or you've completely failed mentality is so refreshing. Between that and Noa's "You aren't God." line and Chris warning the boys about not listening to their body I think the mentor arc is really meant to recontextualize their behavior and show the downsides of this ideology and how bad it fails when it does.

I hate that Ted is portrayed as a kind, caring, good coach. I’m not saying he hasn’t been kind or caring to the team and others, but I hate a lot of the decisions he makes. He’s such a non-confrontational person, to the point where he never addresses the problems the team has, which is a part of being a coach. He’s supposed to manage the team, which means making sure the team dynamic runs smoothly and the players aren’t having any problems. Yet he tasks Roy, who has shown himself to be an emotionally stunted, angry person, with making sure Colin and Isaac stop bothering Nate and getting Jamie’s attitude in check. And then he repeatedly tries to force Roy and Jamie into bonding with each other, treating Jamie like he’s the antagonist in the situation (which he sometimes is) despite the fact that Roy is in a clear position of power over Jamie and Roy himself doesn’t exactly treat Jamie with respect or kindness.
He lets Jamie’s behavior build up, and tries to get Jamie to like him and sweet talk him into behaving (the whole ‘ur such a good player but ur one of 11’ speech). Then, when Jamie still continues with his bad behavior, he gets into Jamie’s personal space and yells in his face while towering over him in front of the team . Even though Ted didn’t know about Jamie’s father, this was still a completely inappropriate course of behavior. If one of my coworkers was being rude and messing up the workplace dynamic and I saw my boss yell in their face like that, I would be immediately heading to HR. And when Ted benches Jamie after Roy tries to attack him??? Yes what Jamie did was fucked up but Roy was acting like a fucking dickhead too. And it was probably sending mixed messages to Jamie, because there Ted was acting all nice and kind and being placating about Jamie’s attitude, then suddenly Jamie’s being benched and then Ted’s yelling at him with no warning. Like if Ted has just said from the beginning that Jamie’s behavior was unacceptable and if he kept acting like a ball hog and a bad teammate then he would be benched, I think Jamie would’ve probably stopped acting like a fucking prick. But instead of setting clear boundaries, he avoided the issue and then had an outburst when he wasn’t getting the results he wanted.
It doesn’t just happen in season 1 either, there are moments scattered throughout the whole show where Ted ultimately fails to do his job and act like an actual boss to the team. I understand, in part, that some of this is probably caused by toxic masculinity and ‘sports culture’ but it still doesn’t excuse his actions, or inactions. He lies about Jamie coming back (even if it wasn’t technically a lie at the time), then he does nothing to help Jamie adjust to being back on the team while everyone hates him (the ‘Led Tasso’ bit was not an appropriate form of help). He brings Roy back as a coach, then does nothing about Roy’s unprofessionalism and refusal to coach Jamie. He doesn’t even offer any meaningful advice to Jamie about it. It shouldn’t have been a situation that Jamie had fix by himself. Ted, as the one in charge, should’ve pulled Roy aside and talked to him about it (it irks me to this day that pulled Roy aside about Trent but not about Jamie). He doesn’t say anything about Nate, who revealed private information to the press, and allows Nate to keep coaching. Like did he not even think about the fact that Nate could’ve potentially told the press information about other people on the team???
And then in Season 3 he ignores Jamie’s complaints about Zava, and lets the entire coaching staff insult and belittle him for being worried about the team’s dynamic. He ignores the fact that Jamie was right about the dynamic getting messed up. He never apologizes or acknowledges it after Zava leaves either. When Isaac went after that homophobe, he just told Isaac to chill out and not take it seriously when Isaac was legitimately upset, once again ignoring the issue and focusing on the wrong thing. If someone I knew had attacked someone who was shouting slurs at them, telling them they fucked up while they were still clearly upset wouldn’t be my first, nor my second, nor third or fourth or fifth reaction. AND AFTER EVERYTHING TED HAS THE AUDACITY TO TELL JAMIE TO FORGIVE HIS FATHER???? Like I understand it was Jamie’s choice to contact his dad and that Ted never told him too, but did Ted literally just never once consider the fact that the advice he was giving him might put him in danger? Not even just physically, but mentally as well?
I just think Ted is so focused on trying to keep people happy that he misses the fact that sometimes you have to confront and feel your negative emotions in order to get to the core of a problem.
I just hate it when media portrays characters a certain way, to the point where they’re practically shouting ‘look at him, he’s so nice and kind and he’s never done anything wrong’ and then have the character make shitty decisions and never resolve or confront the mistakes they made?? They never get any consequences??
That being said, I don’t view Ted as a completely horrible or evil person either, just someone with a lot of flaws that I wish were more acknowledged. He can be a good person and he has helped some of the people on the team, but he’s also hurt them in some ways and that’s never really addressed.

What I want for Murder Drones season finale vs what I'm probably going to get:
What I want:
Cyn takes over a control system that is connected to all disassembly drones and we get full-out dark angel apocalypse like what was in the pilot.
What I'll probably get:
not that.

YOI meta: The mechanics of reigniting your love for skating with the help of a childhood friend and a gay love song
During my latest rewatch of Yuri!!!, the missing pieces of why Yuuri chose, of all of Viktor’s programmes, Stammi Vicino (aka Stay By My Side And Never Leave) to get his love for skating back and what part Yuuko plays in the scene he skates it fell into place. Spoiler: there are some beautiful symmetries, be they unintended or by design.
Of course, Stammi Vicino is Viktor’s current free programme; picking it seems convenient at first glance. However, apart from obvious plot reasons, Yuuri didn't choose this routine on a whim.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If this were the entire point, Yuuri could have chosen a programme he and Yuuko copied together as kids—something they enjoyed tremendously and still have fond memories of. Would make more sense than skating one of Viktor's recent programmes, wouldn’t it?
A recurring theme in Yuri!!! is the skaters’ artistic expression through a piece of music that resonates with them, and this holds even more true for Yuuri, whose entire character arc features his struggles to understand and voice his feelings and how he improves his ability to express them on the ice (the alexithymia is strong in this one, hehe).
As discussed at length, Stammi Vicino is a gay love song (this post explains how you can recognise the gayness*), and there's absolutely no way Yuuri doesn’t know this. As an avid watcher of figure skating and taking the subtle sports commentary in Yuri!!! into account, i.e. Morooka saying that this programme brings out a new side in Viktor** (curiously, the same wording describes Yuuri's performance On Love: Eros), the entire skating community knows by now.
Let’s take a closer look at the lines we see Yuuri skate to (check this post for lyrics and translations):
Con una spada vorrei tagliare/With a sword I wish I could cut Quelle gole che cantano d'amore/Those throats singing about love Vorrei serrar nel gelo le mani /I wish I could seal in the cold the hands Che esprimono quei versi d'ardente passione/That portray those verses of burning passion
The bitterness in these lines mirrors the conscious and subconscious layers of Yuuri’s current struggle quite brilliantly, and both are linked to Viktor:
1) Yuuri’s frustration about his career: His love for skating is hanging by a thread, the results of his last two competitions smothered his passion for the sport, retirement is a tempting option, and he missed his chance to meet his idol (according to his memory). The poor boy has hit rock bottom and returned home. To him, it must seem absurd that so many people around him are hyped about skating and celebrate him as a star while all Yuuri sees is the shitty season he just had. And as if that wasn’t enough, they don’t tire of referring to Viktor like “But Viktor would do this, look Viktor is on TV…” (looking at you Minako in particular), which is not the kind of reminder he needs right now.
Tumblr media
2) Very literally unrequited yearning for love or, more precisely, gay love. At this point in the story, Yuuri is far from being in love with Viktor, but seeing him sets Yuuri into an instant swoon,
Tumblr media
and, after drowning his anxiety with champagne, he hit on Viktor at the banquet and made him fall for him, not to forget this totally-not-subtle display of physical attraction
Tumblr media
(I'd love to know what was going on in Viktor's head at that moment lol)
It hardly can get more obvious than that.
This is the second set of lyrics Yuuri skates to:
Stammi vicino/Stay close to me Non te ne andare/Don’t go Ho paura di perderti/I’m afraid of losing you
Le tue mani, le tue gambe/Your hands, your legs Le mie mani, le mie gambe/My hands, my legs I battiti del cuore/The heartbeats Si fondono tra loro/Are fusing together
(Both Yuuri and Viktor skate the parts of the programme that reveal their strengths as skaters and their current situation to the audience. Interestingly, we don't see Viktor, who remembers the banquet, skate to these intimate and pleading lyrics, but Yuuri.)
Again, there are two layers:
1) Keep pursuing Viktor as a competitor: Ever since Yuuri saw Viktor skate for the first time, he emulated Viktor, worked hard to become like him/his equal, and wanted to compete against him. However, to continue pursuing this goal, Yuuri needs his love for skating back. The better part of his life revolved around this, and he's desperate to preserve it.
2) Finding his soulmate: These lines above refer to Aristophanes’ soulmate theory from Plato’s Symposium, which appeared in the context of Yuri!!! before. For instance, Kubo-sensei herself referred to Yuuri and Viktor as soulmates. Here’s an excerpt from Wikipedia:
people in love say they feel "whole" when they have found their love-partner. […] in primal times people had doubled bodies, with faces and limbs turned away from one another […] these original people were very powerful. […] Zeus […] decided to cripple them by chopping them in half, in effect separating each entity's two bodies. Ever since that time, people run around saying they are looking for their other half because they are really trying to recover their primal nature. […] when two people who were separated from each other find each other, they never again want to be separated.
Sounds a lot like Viktuuri and “Stay by my side and never leave”, right?
All this makes me actually wonder whether Yuuri's subconscious mind remembers the banquet and had a part in his choice.
Besides being a gay love story, Stammi Vicino reflects Yuuri’s and Viktor’s current situation as athletes or, more precisely, their loss of passion for their sport. Yuuri’s feelings for Viktor and his love for the ice are closely intertwined, whereas Viktor is drawn to Yuuri because of his beautiful skating, which ultimately reignites his own passion. Both can't be without one another, and both cannot turn their back on skating. We call everything on the ice love, indeed.
Now on to the last set of lyrics:
Ora sono pronto/Now I’m ready
Yuuri is not yet done. He has fought through the slump and battled his depression. A part of him refuses to bid his desire to skate on the same ice as Viktor again goodbye for good. He still yearns to become Viktor's equal, maybe even surpass him, although he cannot yet admit this to himself. And he returned to where it all started: his home rink.
And that’s when Yuuko enters the equation.
While Minako suggested trying figure skating to Yuuri, Yuuko plays an active part in Yuuri becoming ambitious about the sport and pursuing a career in it.
Tumblr media
Yuuko introduced Yuuri to Viktor. Together, they fangirled over Viktor, watched competitions, devoured every piece of news about him, and copied his programmes.
Tumblr media
Yuuko protected Yuuri, she encouraged Yuuri, and she believed in him. She never made him feel bad about himself or blamed him for his failures. She doesn't patronise him. Ever wondered why she’s the Madonna of Ice Castle? That’s why.
Not her
Tumblr media
But her
Tumblr media
(Yes, there’s Christian symbolism in Yuri!!!)
Yuuko is an integral part of Yuuri's support system. He looks up to her, he trusts her, and she knows how he feels about Viktor and shares his crush,
Tumblr media
so it doesn't come as a surprise that he shows her his version of Stammi Vicino. In a world where everyone celebrates Yuuri while he perceives himself as a loser, she is a safe space, someone whose approval means something to him. His performance is, to some extent, about her, too.
Because Yuuko introduced Yuuri to Viktor, because she believed in him, he was motivated to pursue a career in figure skating and chase Viktor as a competitor. If he can revive these memories, he might revive his love for skating. And he invites her to share this love with him and be a part of his journey as a skater again.
Tumblr media
Yuuri is good at conveying his feelings through skating but sucks at verbalising them. The press conference of the Worlds' medallists that interrupts his conversation with Yuuko hints at what he cannot get across in words. In real-time, Viktor would sit on the kiss and cry and wait for his result (the press conference is 15-20 minutes after the event, actually). Yet the cuts in this scene suggest both happen simultaneously, and that choice isn't random.
Characters supplementing meta-information for other characters' thoughts and emotions through a POV switch is a frequently used technique in Yuri!!! We see this a lot during the competitions, and episode 1 follows the same pattern. Both Yuuri and Viktor are confronted with the loss of their passion and its impact on their future. While it's implied that Viktor cannot let down his guard, Yuuri feels safe enough around Yuuko to try.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(I cannot decide which of these precious boys looks more miserable)
Until recently, Yuuko's role in this episode was a bit obscure to me. Her detailed introduction suggests a more significant role throughout the series, but she fades into the background after three episodes. What's the point in showing a detailed childhood montage of her and Yuuri obsessing over Viktor when she's a minor character with only little screen time, especially since the creators had to boil down their script to the relevant bits in order to fit it into 12 episodes? It's because she plays a significant role in setting the story in motion.
Tumblr media
Twelve years ago, Yuuko helped Yuuri pursue his dream through her undying support and their mutual fangirling over Viktor. Now that Yuuri has returned to the start, she takes over her old role one more time by watching Yuuri's very intimate performance of Stammi Vicino. And that's just the beginning. While she still gives Yuuri the support he needs to carry on, her daughters take over the active part of her former task: acquainting Yuuri with Viktor—with the result of making Yuuri's dream come true and bringing him and Viktor together for real.
If you enjoy my meta posts, please consider giving my blog a follow or checking out my works on AO3(link in bio). You will find the results of my meta musings in there!
*OP and I have different interpretations of the lyrics, but they don't contradict each other imho

I know how Thomas Astruc feels about Chloé, but honestly? If I didn’t, I’d still hold out a lot of hope for her eventual redemption!
The Miracle Queen plot twist did not really damage my opinion of her. In fact, it kind of makes sense to me: a 14-year-old with abandonment issues would interpret a lack of trust from her idol as rejection. If my memory serves me right, she was the first person to reject an akuma, and understandably feels hurt that her loyalty wasn’t rewarded.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(There are striking similarities between this storyline and Chat Noir’s S4 arc - it would be easy to build from that to bring her back into the light!)
And then there’s this scene in Emotion, where Chloé seems so desperate for connection! She’s surrounded by the rich and famous kids she claims to belong with, and yet she still feels alone. So when she spots what she thinks is a new face, she’s elated and immediately reaches out to her. Just look how excited she is as she grabs Marinette’s arm, compliments her, and tries to find common ground by clumsily mentioning her “underling” - the closest thing she has to an actual friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If Felix, who has done much more questionable things (and who Thomas Astruc apparently also hated for a while), can be redeemed, I don’t see why she couldn’t! There’s definitely enough to work from anyways.

one thing i commend side order for is helping to kinda. break down the "octarian domes are dystopian hellscape" interpretations i see everywhere
like yeah the propaganda is still there, but it always has been. that's how you install wariness of the dangerous outside world in your people and keep them close, and safe, after everything. but like.
we do see that there's room for individuality and that people are given basic humanoid rights down there. there's enough fondness for their leader that he's talked about as a cantankerous silly old guy and with respect. maybe acht shouldn't be playing music in the wrong physical locations and maybe they should pay attention in class, but...
it's not a hellscape.
(and it always makes me very uncomfortable when it's depicted that way, both for the political+historical stuff going on w the octarians, and because their leader does genuinely seem to care.)
it's just a very different world that, in the face of the modern day and the re-awakened desire to see the surface again, is often not enough anymore.
and even there, we learn that, yeah, some people are okay living there and genuinely prefer its stability to the changing, chaotic rest of the world.
and that's valid, too.

contains: angst + just a brain storm / character analysis (if you squint) really — ☆
character: jake sully 𓂃୭̥
Tumblr media
i’m not sure if someone has already spoken about this but to imagine the unmitigated terror coursing through jake in this moment, humanity’s hark back of greed, is horrifying to digest.
one minute, he’s counting the various kisses of luminance on his mate’s skin, listening to her breathing echo through his skin and count her breaths for life — and the next, the sky is littered with light. with flame. with heat. the escape to the forest must’ve been gruelling, ignoring the stark bite of wood and stone as the two of them skirt away from the site of the descending airship — the look of pure defeat and anguish on jake’s aged, wrinkle eaten face that he’d fathered all these many years from, as he sees the object of his abhorrence situate itself on this planet once more.
he remembers the inhumane groan and tear of the metal, eating at the green even though it was dead. many of them, trampling through the colourful fauna and livelihood and breathings — he almost doesn’t know if he wants to cry or laugh at the thought. its so innately evil, to destroy this form of breath, he thinks. had they learnt nothing?
and whilst he drapes his arms across his mate, rattling with her torn cries and watching the flames blemish the blue of his home, do you think he felt anger? or sadness? or some emptiness of losing part of this new life again, so fast? do you think the wind felt the hurt too? tried to provide a breeze for the scathe the mother had sustained? do you think she cried back?
and when he limps home on foot, barely holding himself and his mate together — do you think the pieces stuck by themselves? do you he made a promise to himself, the dead as a witness? do you think the only thought wracking his mind were his poor children, home as of now, immune to the hurt numbing his veins? how he would need to shape them a new life across some horizon that wasn’t burning, so their skin was uncluttered by his bruises and his sins? did he bite his cheek and muffle his cries and pensively beg to ewya on his own two feet, like all those years ago?
do you think he thought he lost it all for nothing again?

Random but I have a theory that GotG vol 3 is a critique of Christianity and the Christian God. Like there are obvious parallels between the ending and the story of Noah's arc, and Counter-Earth seems like it could be symbolic of the story of Sodom and Gomorrah. And the High Evolutionary behaves exactly like Christian God. Would that make Adam Warlock Satan/Lucifer, the fallen angel????

Gregory is sus: A Security Breach analysis
Tumblr media
A spoilery leak-informed introduction to why I am doing this - for theorists & hardcore fans
A non-spoilery link to all analysis parts - coming soon.
No spoilers, game evidence only
PART ONE - GAME OPENING
So, from the beginning of the game, Gregory always puzzled me. So much so that I have been building a theory for a whole year based on him being sus.
Join me as I rewatch the game and highlight some things you may have missed.
Today, we'll cover the opening of the game up until the start of daycare. You may think there isn't much to say here but… surprisingly the game opening does a LOT of heavy lifting with setup. So much so that I boldly promise that you'll be given enough to realise Gregory is sus af by the end of this post.
The game's opening never made sense to me. From a storytelling perspective, why would SW have the game open with us in Freddy's room? Out of all the beautiful game settings they could have opened with, you start in a tiny room side room. Things are already confusing. Gregory has mysteriously come from Freddy's hatch - he claims he crawled in there when Freddy was asleep. That was extremely suspicious and my writer's senses were tingling. I had a suspicion that this was a writing technique called "In medias res", where the narrative begins partway through the story in the middle of the action and that this might be a clue in and of itself.
Protip: I highly recommend rewatching the opening to Security Breach before reading this or clicking the accompanying clips. Dialogue tone is extremely important.
The clues
(Covers 1-4)
1: Gregory hiding in Freddy's hatch:
Lets start at the very beginning. Now, what kid in their right mind climbs into a switched off animatronic? Especially after it has been glitching wildly on stage? Most kids would find the prospect terrifying but Gregory seems surprisingly unbothered by it. What or who is he hiding from? What drove him to hide somewhere so dangerous?
The mystery goes deeper though. To solve it, we need to channel our inner Benoit Blanc. Time to play detective:
Gregory claims he got into Freddy's hatch while he was sleeping
However, Freddy was on stage when he glitched. Presumably he was still on the stage when he switched off.
We know from the Fazwatch note 'Party Foul' that Freddy was out of commission for the rest of the day. He missed a kid's birthday party.
This means we have at least several hours between Freddy crashing and the game starting. This presumably means there could have been time where Freddy was out of action/asleep and Gregory could have climbed into him as he said.
When though? Freddy malfunctioned in public view in front of a big audience. There is no way he could have got into Freddy without someone noticing unless no one was around. He would have been stopped by staff. And presumably, Freddy was transported by a staff member back to his own room. When could Gregory have snuck in?
This is where SB fans say 'Simple. He got into Freddy's room and snuck in there'! Now, its possible I am wrong here but I think the game is hinting at that being impossible. Why? The game goes out of its way to tell us Freddy can't get out of his room. His door is locked, requiring someone with a party pass to open it from the outside. If Gregory has no security badges at all, how could he have gotten into Freddy's room independently? How did he get the chance?
This made me wonder if Gregory was lying and covering up how he'd come to be inside Freddy. By its own, this line of thinking is a bit thin but stay with me and you'll see why I made a big deal about this.
Quite the puzzle. Reminds me of the old 'locked door' mysteries! It also raises the question: Was Gregory actually already inside Freddy before he glitched? Could he even be the reason for said malfunction?
2: Gregory's narrative set up:
I also want to point out that we see no hint of Gregory's backstory or how he came to be in the Pizzaplex. Despite being a lost kid in a shut-down Pizzaplex, he isn't upset or scared. He doesn't talk about wanting to go home. From a storytelling perspective, this immediately stood out.
3: Gregory's rude introduction:
Gregory's first line of dialogue is "Shh! WILL YOU SHUT UP?!". Kinda rude for a lost kid, huh? He's scared of Vanessa the Security Guard coming over, sure. But why? If he hasn't at least met Vanessa in passing before, how does he know she is 'trying to get him'? Either Vanessa has shown herself to be a threat to him (which she shows no sign of to the player) or Gregory is hiding something or making an excuse. I also noted that he almost sounds frustrated and annoyed at Freddy for asking questions.
4: NO RECORD OF GREGORY:
This clue is super important! Freddy scans Gregory. He has no guest profile. He then asks for Gregory's name. Freddy proceeds to try and notify the main office and he receives a connection error. Ergo, there is no way that anyone else in the Pizzaplex can or should know his name. Remember this.
5: Gregory makes accusations/deflects:
Omg I titled this clip wrong lol. GREGORY'S REACTION TO VANESSA
Gregory immediately blames Freddy's connection problems on 'her'. "She cut you off", "She's trying to get to me. She's not going to let you call for help until she finds me." The player presumes he's talking about Vanessa.
Freddy responds with "Who? Your Mother?"
I personally think this is the game foreshadowing but that's for another theory.
It's telling that we never get an answer in-game. Gregory distracts by talking about footsteps approaching. This could be read as deflection.
6: G's reaction to Vanessa:
Freddy tells him it's the security guard and 'she can help!. Gregory responds in a panicked way. "NO, NO, I don't trust her." "I don't know who she is but she's trying to get me!"
Again, what is going on here? Think back. Gregory just said he doesn't know her but earlier he 'knew' that she'd cut communications and that Vanessa was after him. Why doesn't he trust her? (At this point, my mind was whirring. Things don't add up.)
Unless, of course, he's referring to a different 'she'...
7: Gregory expresses no verbal desire to exit the pizzaplex:
This fact gets lost in the Fazwatch intro sequence but - believe it or not - it is Freddy who prompts the walk to the main entrance. Gregory says nothing about escaping, leaving or his motivation at all. Why? That's rather plot convenient.
Tumblr media
8: Freddy assumes Gregory has a party pass:
After climbing out of Freddy's room via the vents, Gregory tries but fails to open Freddy's door. He needs a party pass.
Freddy says: "Apologies, I assumed you had one already…" Why would Freddy assume this given Gregory didn't have a guest profile? Well, because Freddy knows Gregory could not have entered his room without it. Again, a surprisingly telling dialogue choice.
Freddy sends Gregory to find a complimentary pass in the lobby so he can get Freddy out of his room.
Clue 9: Gregory's dialogue reminds players of Afton:
Party pass achieved, Gregory reunites with Freddy. Freddy says that he has figured out how to get Gregory out of the Pizzaplex and says he'll take him to the main entrance. Freddy proceeds to suggest that Gregory travels in this cakehatch.
Gregory says yes: "But you better be careful moving around, I don't want to be crushed and twisted into a meat pretzel."
This could be taken as innocent fear but… it's delivered a little dryly for that. The imagery reminds the player of Springtrap. And the fear is sort of belated, isn't it? Given he already hid in there earlier.
Clue 10: Freddy's sudden detour to First Aid:
I don't know how else to explain it but Freddy starts behaving quite strangely as soon as he exits his room with Gregory in his hatch. He says about taking Gregory to the main entrance, they need to hurry before the doors shut. Then unexpectedly Freddy announces randomly that "You are broken" and he makes an impromptu trip to first aid despite Gregory's protests that he is 'fine' and they "Don't have time".
The first aid room, as it happens, is located in the Staff-only utility tunnels in a dark room with danger signs and sparking wires. Bit odd, huh? Why isn't First Aid in one of the guest areas? This doesn't seem like a typical place to bring customers.
Plot happens:
As soon as the duo get to the First Aid Station, they are interrupted by Vanessa. Gregory hides while Vanessa tells Freddy off. The following scene plays out:
Vanessa: Freddy! You're supposed to be on lockdown.
Freddy: Officer Vanessa! I do not know how I got here!
Vanessa: Well you totally blew it tonight you know. Your system crashed and you ruined the show. Now Parts and Service have you on reduced power! They said it's a safety precaution. Just one more thing to deal with...
Freddy: I apologize.
Vanessa: Ok... Look, we're like 15 minutes from closing and some kid is sneaking around backstage. If you see anything notify me immediately, I already alerted the others. Now go back to your room.
This is important context and establishes a few things. "Parts and Services" have put Freddy on reduced power, meaning he requires recharging every hour. Additionally, Vanessa at least appears to know very little about Gregory other than the fact that he exists.
Gregory says: "I told you she was after me."
This voice line implies that Gregory and Vanessa have at least had one run in with each other.
Freddy promises: "I said nothing. I will keep you safe. Let's go."
11: Gregory doesn't receive any first aid:
I kid you not, I laughed the first time I realised this. After all the fuss that was made, Freddy doesn't even look Gregory over. They just leave immediately. Is this a plot oversight or a clue?
Unrelated(?) detail you may have missed:
As Freddy and Gregory move through the Utility Tunnels, Freddy explains they link to every area of the building.
Freddy says: Fazer Blast, Monty Golf, Roxy Raceway, they are all accessible to S.T.A.F.F - with high enough clearance of course. Guests are never allowed down here but yours is a... special situation.
This scene provides confirmation that the First Aid Station Freddy took Gregory to isn't usually used by guests. Hmmm.
Additionally, there's another notable piece of flavour text. The S.T.A.F.F bots need security clearance to go around the building. Why? If S.T.A.F.F bots are just generic AI/personality-less robots, why would they need individual security clearance?
Tumblr media
It's also worth noting that - as this line is delivered - we pass a scene behind a chain link fence. It is of three S.T.A.F.F bots standing around a broken colleague.
Then, a short walk later, this poster is displayed: "100% of fatal accidents involve human beings."
Tumblr media
It feels like Steel Wool might be trying to imply something here.
Plot:
About two seconds later, Freddy draws to a halt because he ran out of power. So helpful. Gregory is on his own again but Freddy promises to direct him via the Fazwatch. Gregory sets off for the main entrance.
12: Animatronic dialogue:
Gregory wanders around a bit and triggers a playable cutscene where Roxy, Chica and Monty begin to chase him.
I'm going to cheat slightly here and use this as an opportunity not only to review their dialogue in this scene but their wandering around dialogue as it boils down to the same point.
During the chase, the animatronics say the following.
Monty: There you are! (Friendly tone, like he's found you after playing hide and seek)
Roxy: Are you lost? (Dry voice, could be read as sarcasm or a genuine question. Ambiguous)
Chica: Lost boy over here! (Singsong)
You can also find the rest of their dialogue text and audio here.
None of these voice lines sound threatening at all. They sound pretty reasonable on the whole honestly. In some cases, they even sound friendly or like they are just doing the task assigned to them as part of a Pizzaplex lost kid protocol. Or directions from Vanny/Vanessa/an unseen force. But whatever is driving them, they don't seem very murdery.
Some patroling dialogue lines that stuck out to me:
Monty: "You can hide but you can't hide!", "Hey kid, come on out! We're only tryin' to help." (That first one… what does Monty mean?)
Chica: "Your family is looking for you.", "Your parents want you to follow me.", "Don't worry, you're safe with me." (How does Chica know who Gregory's parents/family are?)
Roxy: "Why are you hiding from me?", "Hey kid, come on out. We're only trying to help.", "I can help." (Roxy has some more spiteful-sounding dialogue like "Sneak away, little coward" and "Nobody will miss you" but none sound threatening or aggressive)
Plot again:
Gregory escapes but doesn't make it to the door in time.
"How unfortunate Gregory. You missed your chance but there is still hope. You should be able to escape when the security doors reopen at 6:00am. Until then, keep moving and try not to draw attention to yourself, there is another way out. I will help you find it. I promise."
13: Chica knows Gregory's name:
So now, Gregory begins to find a means to upgrade his Party Pass so he can enter the Pizzaplex. During this time, Chica patrols the area.
Hey, remember how I pointed out that:
Gregory has no guest profile?
Freddy couldnt access the mainframe to report his name?
Ergo, there is no way that anyone other than Freddy who can know Gregory's name?
THEN HOW DOES CHICA KNOW GREGORY'S NAME?
Before people say "Vanessa hears Gregory's name through the Fazwatch via Freddy." That scene happened at 2am. This clip is LITERALLY from 12am moments after the door shut. It's several hours before that scene even happens. Vanessa is still calling him 'little boy' and 'some kid'.
How was this missed by much of the fandom? Well, I have a theory. In Matpat's GT live playthrough pre-release day patch, I'm pretty sure Chica has a different set of voice lines. As far as I can see, she also never says Gregory's name at 12am. But on Markiplier's - post patch - playthrough, she says it continuously. There are even different iterations of her saying Gregory's name, one of which is reminiscient of the special voicebox screech used to access the Burntrap boss fight.
This was my jaw drop moment while watching my second playthrough of Security Breach. How does Chica know Gregory's name? In that moment, I 'knew' that Gregory could not be unknown to Chica. He knew more than he was letting on and I was on the lookout for more inconsistencies.
And I realised Chica is super important - after all, Chica's beak has always been lore significant.
14: Freddy's strange response to Gregory's gift magnet:
Gregory goes to find an item with which to 'hack' the Party Pass machine. He finds a 'Free Mystery Gift' box conveniently located in the gift shop. He opens it to find - in his own words "a crappy Mr. Hippo fridge magnet. Lame"
Freddy responds to his magnet disappointment with: "I am sorry, Gregory. I am truly sorry."
He sounds as if someone just died. What is this dialogue? Who says that in response to a kid expressing dismay at getting a character magnet they don't like?!
15: Freddy's tone deaf response to a setback
After this, Freddy directs Gregory to use the magnet "hack" the machine to get a party pass. The machine unexpectedly spits out a Daycare pass instead.
Gregory is dismayed but Freddy says, "That's good news" as if totally tone-deaf. He does not explain WHY it is good news, just tells Gregory to meet him there. It's almost like he is stalling for time...
Are you convinced something doesn't add up yet? Let me know in the comments! I'll add additional notes to this section if anyone has any questions/suggestions/evidence.
Next time, we'll move on to Daycare and the clues will start to add up...

Sae and Rin's parents better be so sane and normal. I kinda want them to be for 2 reasons
1. Because it would be funny
2. Because it would just go to show you don't need horrible parents or a fucked up childhood to become obsessed with revenge. You can be shown love and compassion, but still be a fucking dick. And if anything that would only make Rin's reaction to Sae more poignant and senseable. Like you're raised in a perfectly normal household and you grow up with a brother who encourages and sticks by you only for him to call you trash and never talk to you again??? I'd be an emo mfer too

Y’all now that I really think about it I’m pretty sure that Mike in S3 was actually trying to mirror Nancy’s behavior from S1. They both obviously don’t look at their parent’s relationship as the model for their romantic pursuits despite exhibiting some of the same qualities. So, Mike’s ideas about how to behave in a relationship probably come from Nancy’s relationship with Steve, especially considering all his friends’ parents (besides Lucas) aren’t really able to demonstrate what a romantic relationship should or would look like. If you look at the way they both act, it’s clear that to some extent Mike is copying her.
In episode 1 of S1 Dustin says that there’s something wrong with Nancy’s and that she has “a stick up her butt” to which Lucas responds that it’s because she’s dating Steve who he calls a “douchebag”.
In episode 1 of S3 when El and Mike leave because of “curfew” Dustin immediately questions it and Lucas replies that they’re lying, with Will adding that it was like this all summer. Dustin claims that “it’s bullshit” and Lucas nods along.
Steve sneaks into Nancy’s room to “study” and have some alone time.
Mike and El shut the door to her room/secretly make out behind Hopper’s back.
In Season 1, Barb expressed her fears that Nancy is going to leave her to fit in with the popular crowd and that she’s not acting the way she normally does. Nancy eventually does end up separating herself from Barb to be with Steve.
In Season 3, Will and the others feel like both El and Mike are abandoning them somewhat, and express their annoyance about. A heavy theme amongst the teens seems to be “acting like society expects boyfriends/girlfriends/teenagers to do” and Mike and El going off on their own (pre-break up)
Nancy and Steve eventually break up because Nancy’s secrecy about the demogorgon leads him into believing that she’s cheating on him/not being faithful and they end up fighting about it in public, with Steve trying to apologize amidst the chaos and eventually fighting the demogorgon to help save Nancy & Jonathan.
El and Mike break up because of Mike’s lying/secrecy about his grandmother/his conversation with Hopper which leads El to feel like Mike doesn’t trust her or treat her right. They eventually fight about it in public and break up, and end up trying to reconcile amongst the chaos, with Mike stepping in to try and save El & Max from Billy on different occasions.
In S1, Jonathan and Nancy get into an argument because Jonathan thinks Nancy acts like someone else to which Nancy immediately gets defensive about and says that he’s only upset because he’s doesn’t like Steve/her relationship with Steve. As their argument comes to an end, Jonathan divulges that he thought Nancy was different than everyone else and that he’s disappointed by the fact that she’s trying to conform to society’s standards.
In S3, Will and Mike argue because Will feels like Mike is changing and not acting like how he had before because of his relationship with El, to which Mike gets defensive about and says that it’s not his fault that Will doesn’t like girls (equating Will’s frustration and hurt towards Mikes behavior to simply being jealous? about Mike and El’s relationship). As their argument ends, Will reveals that he had expected Mike to continue playing D&D with him and keep acting like a kid (things that don’t conform to what Mike thinks society expects of him).
Nancy states that she waited a month for Jonathan to make a move before getting back together with Steve.
El makes a move on Mike two months after they break up, which is presumably when they get back together.
I think Mike saw the way Nancy was acting in S1 (when his friends thought she was mean/uptight) and thought that’s how people act in relationships.
There are also a lot of parallels between S2 Stancy and S4 Mileven.

Okay so I said I would pen some of my 911 thoughts so here we are with my main thought.
I think we’re at a pinnacle point in the show where an executive decision needs to be made (if it hasn’t been already) in the writer’s room about whether or not Buddie will go canon. I do not think they can continue to make the show without making a concrete decision. The main reason being where Buck and Eddie are in their character development. Seasons 1-5 have been about the past for them; about confronting and working through their past traumas. Season 6a on the other hand has clearly established that we are now looking towards the future. For Buck, he’s at a point where he’s starting to question his life and what it means to be happy. It means examining his current life and looking at what he would need/want in the future to attain what he eventually deems as happiness. Clearly a big part of that happiness will be being a father; they wouldn't be doing the sperm donor storyline if it wasn’t.
For Eddie, he’s at a point where he’s gone/going to therapy and is in a good place. He’s learning to live for himself, especially now that he has more time to himself as his kid is growing up and seeking independence. With this time to himself will come with questioning what he wants out of life; what’s his happiness.
Clearly both of these characters’ trajectories are going towards the future. With the way the writing has been going, it would be very easy for the writers to make these two characters’ desires of the future be interconnected. I personally think that’s the way to go with the story, considering, whether intentionally or not, they’ve already set the groundwork. However, if they really do not want to go in this direction, I think now would be the time to decide. While a solid argument can be made that they queer baited their audience for 4 whole seasons if they choose to go with the “band of brothers” route, I think with some directional and writing changes, they still could establish Buck and Eddie as ride or die friends. But, imo, they truly cannot continue with not making a decision and stringing along the fans knowing that they’re intentionally baiting them by giving them hope that Buddie will happen. It just doesn’t do justice to the characters, the show, or their audience.

Thinking about how none of BSD would have happened the way it did without Dazai
He’s the one who found Atsushi (or rather, was found by Atushi) and introduced him to the Agency. Had Dazai not jumped into the river that day, Atsushi would have starved or been found by someone else. The tiger likely would have never been explained and Atsushi would have probably lived a (relatively) normal life wondering why this tiger was “following” him
What if Dazai hadn’t left the PM? If he had found Atsushi and taken him under his wing, then Atsushi would’ve likely ended up in the mafia like in Beast but with Mori as his boss instead of Dazai
And think about Double Black. They were apart for what, two, three, four years after Dazai left the mafia? How would their dynamic be different had they not been separated for that entire time? Or if Dazai had just… ignored Chuuya in the first place. If Chuuya hadn’t joined the PM. In that case, the events of Stormbringer never would have happened.
Not to mention Dazai’s planning. Things would have gone even more to shit in Stormbringer had he not been there. If we want to look further into the narrative’s timeline, the Agency would have been done for without his planning throughout seasons 3-5
Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk

Hello! I really love your meta (especially your addition in the one regarding Victor and empathy), they are really well thought out! I read your edit to the episode 12- episode 4 meta yesterday, and I really would like to hear your thoughts about the ending as a whole. I personally felt that it was a bit off to me with Yuuri not winning gold (and the scoring) but I do understand what they were going for. Viktor's return to skating surprisingly was something I kind of expected to happen, but I would love to hear your interpretation of it! (Also I must say that viktor-yurio scene before yurio's fs being called as Viktor asking yurio to get the gold or whatever is a take I disagree SO much with (it just seems like it isn't something Viktor will do at that particular time...or ever tbh) so I was glad to see that being addressed in the post! I kind of felt that Yurio's monologue and pushing himself to win by a difference of .12 was just his own desperation to keep Yuuri on the ice (or even simpler: to just somehow convey to yuuri that he is capable of more and more and quitting at that point was not the best decision after all)) anyway, sorry for rambling away :') I really thought this is something interesting to discuss with you, have a great day/night!
Thanks for your Ask! I’m sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I hope you’re still interested in my thoughts on the ending!
Generally (and this might be controversial), I think that episode 12 wraps up the story quite nicely and comprehensively, although I think it could have been 5-10 minutes longer. As much as I believe that a good story should require the audience to use their brains, I’m under the impression that episode 12 subjects the answer to too many open questions to the subtext, stirring a feeling of lacking closure as a result. With a few minutes more airtime, this could have been avoided.
To me, Yuuri finishing in second place was more satisfying than Yuuri winning the GPF. Episode 1 raised the expectation that by the end of the series, Yuuri would hold a gold medal in his hands and throughout the series we are led to believe that this is Yuuri’s ultimate goal. However, when we go back to the very beginning of episode 1, we see Yuuri yearning for becoming Viktor’s equal and it’s implied that he also yearns for Viktor as a person (I discussed some of this here). If Yuuri had won gold, he wouldn’t have been motivated to continue and thus would have denied himself the fulfilment of his greatest dream aka skating on the same ice as Viktor and competing against him—a desire he has nurtured since the day he saw Viktor skate for the first time. So, while the ending doesn’t fulfil Yuuri’s want, it satisfies his need with a promise of the future he envisioned. To me as a viewer, this is more rewarding, but it’s absolutely a matter of taste.
When I watched Yuri!!! for the first time, I personally didn’t anticipate Viktor’s comeback as I was too caught up in the story (and the fear he and Yuuri might break up—I made some bad experiences in this regard). While his return to skating was sufficiently foreshadowed through Yuuri’s unreliable narrator, Viktor’s story arc contradicts this notion. By episode 12, he has settled into his life as Yuuri’s coach and partner and is happier than he has been in a long time. Yuuri fulfils his unmet need for love, which is expressed through Viktor’s free programme and his participation in Yuuri’s gala programme. However, like Yuuri, he lost his passion for skating and is incomplete without it as it is a significant part of his personality (just like Yuuri). His need to regain his passion is met when both Yuris smash his world records at the GPF, but I highly doubt Viktor would enjoy his comeback without Yuuri as his love for skating and his love for Yuuri are intertwined. And for Yuuri, it’s the same. To me, that’s the perfect ever after.
Some more thoughts about the conflict between Yuuri and Viktor, Viktor’s reaction to Yuuri’s retirement plans, Yuuri’s intention, and whether they break up or not, I detailed in this old post.
I feel like I should point out that I don’t see Viktuuri as a couple who would conform to the “let’s break up because our paths of life diverge”-trope as I see them as too mature for this and I’m glad the creators didn’t let the story end like this. (This trope is one of my romance pet peeves.)
I agree with what you said about Yurio! In Yuuri, Yurio has the kind of rival who motivates and pushes him, and whom he likes and admires to some extent. In this sense, their relationship resembles the one Chris and Viktor had and it stands in stark contrast to Yurio’s relationship to JJ, who would be Yurio’s only rival if Yuuri quits. For a character like Yurio, I think, that’s reason enough to keep Yuuri in the sport. I even go as far as saying that stopping Yuuri from retiring is Yurio’s agape.
The scoring at the Grand Prix final is pretty wild to me. I read in an interview that the creators consulted a figure skater to ensure realistic scores, but for the GPF, they went completely off the rails for plot reasons. Without knowing the protocols from the competition, this is difficult to explore, but it seems that to ensure a certain outcome the creators ignored several basic rules about how mistakes play into GOE and PCS and which of these are reasonable for the world’s best six athletes. I did a quick and dirty calculation based on the ISU rules from the time Yuri!!! was created and broadcasted. It's the same system the creators used to calculate the base score of the athletes' programme. I came up with a significantly lower score for JJ and a score for Yuuri that is well above the 100 mark (his hand down on the 4F only gives -1 GOE and limits his PCS to 9.5 maximum in each category). In Yurio’s case, I assumed maximum GOE in all elements and maximum PCS and still didn’t get his score of 118, which means his score in the series is technically impossible. (I actually ended up with around 113.) I’m planning a post that explores the scores in YOI in more detail. For now, suffice it to say that the creators could have achieved the same with reasonable scores.
Given the mistakes he made, JJ was blatantly overscored. Especially in a competition like the GPF, judges tend to be exceptionally strict as all skaters are incredibly skilled and their programmes are of similar difficulty. While I understand that the creators intended to give JJ a strong comeback in the free skating, realistically, his performances would have only put him on the podium if other skaters had made more mistakes (unfortunately, the free skating is a black box as quite a number of elements are executed off-screen). Regarding plot choices, I don’t think the story needs two skaters making a strong comeback in the free programme. If JJ had finished the GPF in last place, this would have made the plot of episode 12 more realistic and better balanced and would have been a fine parallelism to Yuuri’s situation one year ago. Personally, this would have gone his ego good and I would have preferred Phichit, Chris, or Otabek in third place. That said, I don’t understand the reasons for this choice, but that’s okay.
I hope I was able to answer your questions. Feel free to ask if you want to know anything else! Anyway, thank you again! This was my first Ask on Tumblr and I was super thrilled when I saw it!
