Play-By-Blog #0: The Isle by Luke Gearing
Tumblr media
Let's try something out. I am going to do weekly play-by-post style posts here on Tumblr where you, my dear readers, get to act as my players via polls. I'll roll dice and act as a referee as needed, but the core choices will be up to you! Think of it as a choose-your-own-adventure blog but with a bit more TTRPG backend on my part. Let's see how it goes! If you are interested in this, please vote in the poll below!
I'll be running Luke Gearing's The Isle which is wonderfully written, mysterious, strange, and honestly quite grotesque so be ready for a wild ride!
The Isle is tiny, a mere 40 acres of forbidding rock and low grasses. Seen from the sea, the monastery buildings stand adjacent to the peak of the isle, lit by a fire atop a tower. The monks never let the fire go out.
Cliffs rise above the bitter sea, mauled by waves and weather. Fallen stones jut like Frisian horses, big enough to skewer whales. The abbot knows this, because he has seen it.
First, character creation! We'll be sticking to some version of Jared Sinclair's The Vanilla Game (a streamlined old DnD-like core this adventure was written for). The biggest decision is as follows:
After this poll expires, I'll roll up a character randomly for you all to collectively inhabit as we venture deep into the dirty depths of The Isle, starting next week!
EDIT: Play-By-Blog #1 can be found HERE!

INTRO You walk through the magic-lit streets of Ravenport, the evening air crackling with unseen energy. The city buzzes with life: street vendors selling enchanted trinkets, sky-high buildings pulsing with magical light in apartments and offices, and citizens of all kinds mingling in the shadow of ancient, rune-covered monuments. You hear an exchange of dwarfish, and then an elemental making a deal with an owl in demonspeak. The energy of Ravenport is a palpable, living thing that whispers in your ear, promising secrets and wonders. As you gaze upon the rune-covered skyline of Ravenport, you spend a moment in reflection.
What brought you to Ravenport?
Reblog to answer. Things like "I came seeking knowledge of the arcane arts." to "I was born here, the city's rhythm is in my blood." Include a little more, a story to establish you -- maybe even a name. The next time I look at this blog, I will pick some, make a roll and tell you all what happens next.

Andromeda Lore DND 5e Homebrew Roleplay Our world is dying.
Growing more grey by the day, the soil drying, everything simply… breaking. Or something.
Long ago Andromeda was split into multiple different continents under different rulers. Among them, was a small island known as Asteria. Asteria had access to a little red stone, known as the Sorcerer’s Stone.
It was with this little red stone, that they found power- a little, and then more. Over time they become not just one island, but a few. Then a large continent, and then the one next to it as well. Over many wars they fought, and many lands they won, and so it came that they were all overtaken by the Asterians.
But because of their brute force, their use of this little red stone, they had done irreparable damage to Andromeda. In the realization of this, our people went to war yet again- a civil war, fighting for what would be done about it. How to use the stone to undo the damage. In the midst, the stone was lost. To where, nobody knows.
The moment it was learned that nobody knew where, all battle ceased. Without the stone, nobody was willing to do large scale damage.. but the tension and worry remained. With the stone, you could solve any problem, if you connected things the right way.
Without it, everyone would continue down the path it was set on. Towards the end of the world.
And that was the moment that somehow, subconsciously, everyone on Andromeda was given the hope to either find the sorcerer’s stone- for whatever reasons they found fit- or to make the most of the world dying underfoot.
Internal Conflict
In Andromeda, there is the will of the people. The desire for change, for the betterment of the world, for chaos.
Not everyone agrees, but everyone’s’ opinions seem to matter. What you believe changes how those in your environment treat you- affects which town you choose to live in. Where you decide to thrive. If you can thrive.
Factions in this period of a split world seem to increase rapidly, for varying purposes and intent.
What happens may very well depend on you- will you save Andromeda, or will you sing as it burns? Join now.

The Commonwealth we’ve created is awe inspiring in its majesty. Generations of people once threatened with oppression, violence, and even senseless death have been able to live and pursue their dreams in the society we have created in the ashes of what once was. It’s a land worth living in. It is a land worth fighting for. Don't surrender it to the darkness.
Code of Honor is a new Jcink Premium 18+ original powers animanga site starting in late 1596 and progressing onward in a magical realism style in the Duchy of Livonia shaped by decades of superhuman activity both hostile and friendly. Features a progression system, DMed quests and events, and site systems formed around a heroic journey of each player character that they undertake on their journey from villager to a member of the Winged Knights, the only people capable of fighting off the encroaching darkness.
Attached are some snips from the modern skin with features such as automatic thread tracking, easy access to stats, filtering member list, and more. We hope you give us a try.

Airships & Arcana: A Dieselpunk Campaign for the World's Greatest Roleplaying Game
SYSTEM: Homebrew DnD 5e PLATFORM: Discord DATE/TIMES: Play by Post PARTY SIZE: 4 or 5 players would be ideal
In the grim past of the 20th century, there is only war.
Two decades ago, the Empire of Germania won the Weltkrieg, the Great War, since then revolutions and social upheaval have rocked the world as we knew it; advanced technology such as airships and gigantic mecha and ancient powers of magic rediscovered have changed the face of life and war forever. Now, we stand at the precipice, anticipating what will set off the next Weltkrieg and drag the world into war once more…
Weird War
By homebrewing DnD 5e and combining it with the lore featured in the Kaiserreich universe (though altered a bit) along with other dieselpunk shenanigans, I hope to have an explosive sandbox to play in. This will be an extremely player driven game with the GM mostly just reacting to the players' actions and using the grander world to highlight the personal stories of the PC's. I'd rate it as a PG-13 to R, it's a war story.
If you're interested, please DM with the following information
Name: (First or just nickname is fine)
Pronouns:
Age: (I'm an adult that just wants to game with other adults, sorry)
Experience with DnD/TTRPG's:
Favorite Class or Subclass:
Favorite piece of Diselpunk / alt-history media:
Favorite color:

Hey everyone! My fantasy Roleplay group, The Obscure Realms, is currently recruiting! We are based in discord. It is post by post and respond as you are able. Multiple scenes are usually running at the same time in separate channels.
The supernatural world (The Obscure Realms), exists on a plane parallel that has been connected to the human world (Earth) since the very beginnings of human civilization. While supernatural creatures previously lived amongst humans as gods, goddesses, myths, legends, and monsters, they have since been forced underground. The RP takes place in the modern day and age where supernatural beings have been largely forced to hide in the shadows of human society, or be hunted down and experimented on like animals.
We are lgbtq+ friendly, the server is 16+ with some special rules for minors to keep everyone safe. Cosplay is encouraged but not required. We are always open to new ideas and are generally rule of cool as long as it is within reason. Most mythological species are available as character races. There are some that we do not allow tho.
To prevent bots please respond or message me if interested!

Play-By-Blog #16: The Isle by Luke Gearing
Welcome to my ongoing play-by-blog of The Isle by Luke Gearing! We are playing this adventure with its original system, The Vanilla Game (adjusted somewhat to fit the format). You can check out the Play-By-Blog Repository to get all caught up if you wish.
How Play-By-Blog works:
I write up the situation, NPCs, and more, just like a DM.
You vote in the poll to help decide the character's course of action.
I roll the dice, resolve actions, and write them up next week.
So on and so forth for the rest of the adventure!
Notation:
[Text in brackets is out-of-character/GM text!] "Non-italicized quotes denote text from the original adventure!" "Italicized quotations denotes NPC dialogue."
Our character: Medon Girou - Magic Cutpurse
Our maps: The Isle, The Dungeon (so far)
[You can use the links above to find Medon's Character Sheet and map of the Isle and the so far uncovered portions below the surface. On the Dungeon map, you are currently in Floor 2, in the hall to the east of Room 19.]
Now, back to the adventure!
Tumblr media
Unsure of the dangers that lie ahead, you once again sit and concentrate, being the Wizard Eye ritual. Over the next hour [6 Encounter Rolls (1 per 10 mins): only 1 triggered an event], you safely conjure the invisible arcane orb.
Midway through the ritual, you hear the crack of brittle bone against stone, new sounds from the burnt smelling room to the south. You send the Eye down the hall.
In the chamber [Room 17], you see 6 Bonded Dead, animated skeleton warriors like those that accompanied Fionn in his chamber only these wear old, rotten furs. Fionn mentioned his brother's penchant for furs and the ornamentation of their forefathers. These are mindless dead, in service of Dainéal. They march to the northern end of the room before turning and marching out the chamber's western door and into the room housing the strange sphere creature you spotted earlier in your scouting [Room 16].
Beside the now-gone Bonded Dead, you see "a burnt figure, huddled by the eastern doorway. Now barely recognizable as human." An open doorway leads east down a short hall and into another chamber.
Here [Room 18], "thick soot blackens the walls and floor." Beneath the soot, there is a slight glimmer, like a layer of flint, on the flooring. Taking several minutes to closely examine the room, you discover several details: "the ceiling has many fine holes bored into it" (nearly impossible to see from standing height) and "the floor is made of four pressure plates." To the east, there is "a door marked with images of coiling serpents falling into a pit."
You let the Wizard Eye fizzle and creep down into the room with the burnt body [Room 17]. You hear the Bonded Dead, Dainéal's patrol, marching further away, to the south [out of Room 16]. There are going away, but you do not know if or when they may be back.
The burnt body has nothing of use. Everything is burnt and charred save the few bits of armor, all missing their straps: gauntlets, a chest piece, and large plate mail boots, all battered and covered in soot.
You look into the room with the pressure plates, clearly trapped, and ponder how to proceed. There's no way to avoid all of the pressure plates by entering the room (although you do not know how much weight may be necessary to trigger them). You could Teleport again, but there's much more risk in teleporting into the next chamber without firsthand knowledge or sight of it and casting as a ritual takes time you may not have with the Bonded Dead about and casting it quickly has it's own risks of miscasting.
You have many options, none of them perfect.
[EDIT: For the options below, @wrapping-rags suggested throwing the armor pieces from the corpse into the room and onto the pressure plates (instead of having to cast Sticks to Snakes and that's a great idea so if you like that option, please vote for "Cast Sticks to Snakes" and we'll do that instead!]
[If you've got another crafty solution to evading the trap, reblog or drop a comment! I'm always up for considering creative new ways for players to outsmart the dungeon! - Christian]
PBB #17 is up now!

Alchemy Play By Post: Magic Circles
I've been running my Ars Magica, Fullmetal Alchemist, Cultist Simulator inspired rpg campaign over discord. The core of the system is Alchemical Diagram interpretation, a set of rules to determine what the magic circles my players draw do. On their end, they try to puzzle out how the system works (And do a good deal of exploration, ruin diving, puzzle solving, and cultist punching)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They often find diagrams like these two, where they have no clue what it does. Do they risk activating it? (Please excuse my use of elvish, I didn't want to invent my own conlang!
Tumblr media
And of course they draw their own and send them to me! This one makes paper from the aether.

Reminiscing about Warrior Cats RPs
I used to be really into the Feral Front WCRPG play-by-post site back in the day (anyone else remember that?)-- I checked back a couple days ago, and apparently they shut down in 2020.
And that's really unfortunate. I don't know any other sites anywhere near as expansive-- you could find almost any warrior cat clan premise, and any skill or activity level.
I had been considering getting back into a role-play, but all of the setups I've found so far are way too established or have extremely developed lore.
I'm a tired, tired adult with no attention span-- I really don't have the energy to learn all about the history of the territory or the previous relationships or whatever plot people are in the middle of.
I want an extremely improve-based role-play. I want to come in with just a name and an appearance, and we won't even know the clan's name is until it comes up in-character. Who's the leader? We won't know until someone mentions it. What's that? You say I'm the medicine cat? Well, YES, AND I used to be the deputy, but I had a mid-life crisis and I keep trying to insert myself into the medicine den, despite the fact that there are already THREE fully capable medicine cats, and two apprentices to boot. Why yes, I do have severe hay fever--- no, what do you mean? Why would that make handling herbs a bad idea?

So a million billion years ago (read - about a year or so ago) I started doing a play by post Danganronpa AU called Despair’s Legacy.
I never finished it (barely made it halfway through the prologue lol) because it took so long to edit the sprites and make backgrounds but every now and again I return to it because goddamn I love these kids so much. I made sprites AND concept art for all of them what kind of wild ass dedication is that?!
Anyway if I was a dedicated artist I would’ve continued it but who knows maybe I’ll try to convert it into a fic someday (better than the one on AO3 currently lol it’s all awkward sounding).
Here’s a link if you’re bored and want a squizz lol. Tumblr is NOT well formatted for play by posts so if you want to check out the story in order click the link on the pinned post and follow the prompts.
