I’m actually LOVING how Rick Riordan, and the other writers of the show, took his initial concept of a Percabeth rivalry fueled by that of their parents and kind of turned it on its head?
Now, instead of Annabeth being wary of Percy because he’s a son of Poseidon, he’s wary of her because she made a callous impression on him. They get off to a rocky start even before finding out who Percy’s father is, and when they finally do, Annabeth doesn’t care. Instead of them fighting because of who their parents are, they’re fighting over their own opposed worldviews.
Then, instead of them arguing over which of the gods is cooler and who was right in the story of Medusa, they realize that, just like Medusa, Annabeth is a victim of her mother and that, unlike Medusa, she is a far kinder and stronger person, unwilling to repeat the cycle of hurt. They realize that, like his father, Percy often acts without considering potential consequences and that, unlike his father, he is a far kinder and stronger person, willing to step up for someone he wronged and whom he cares about.
Instead of Percy and Annabeth’s rivalry being focused on that of their parents, it’s focused on who they are, themselves. But the path to friendship is still the same: a realization that they have each other’s backs, no matter what, because they’re not their parents after all.

while I do like the added dialogue between Sally and Percy in the minotaur scene, namely Sally's speech to Percy telling him to hold fast, I really wish the scene had more of the urgency that it did in the book. Like Grover's heavily injured to the point of incoherency, Sally and Percy literally have to drag him up the hill, and that's when they're overtaken by the minotaur. In the show, having them all come to a grinding standstill and Grover being fully alert like "sorry I know we're being chased by certain death but your mom's human so she can't come :/" was kind of adflksadfjasdf
oh and in the book Percy doesn't immediately pass out. Instead, Percy doesn't let himself until he's hauled Grover over the boundary line and all the way to the big house because he needs help and it's only then does Percy finally collapse. and idk just the imagery of it all -- Percy crying for help, for his mother -- it always stuck with me and I wish they hadn't taken it out.

Remember that Jercy fic wherein Percy holds Jason’s hand to show Nico that it’s okay to be affectionate with Will? Well it’s back. And it’s even more fun. 🤣🤣
The whole thing is just hilarious. Jason’s just having his sexuality crisis and Percy’s a little shit. 😭 And poor Will just got robbed into their stupid crush akdhajhdajjs.
Also? the joy that courses through me when Will started bickering with Percy is absurd. 😂

The very first scene of pjo season 2 should be Annabeth, Luke, Grover, and Thalia fighting monsters on Half-Blood Hill and Thalia sacrificing herself and being turned into a tree to mirror the very last scene that should be Thalia appearing while Annabeth's on guard duty and telling Percy who she is

Okay look. I'm not a huge fan of Piper's character myself, and that is because the trope of her character was, in my opinion, executed very poorly.
but do people really hate her because she said that Percy was less impressive compared to Jason? This whole thing started out as a joke, but I've literally seen people include this in one of their "Why Piper Mclean is a bad character" essays and it never fails to boggle my mind.
Why are people so mad that a girl said her boyfriend was better than a random guy she barely knew? It's very natural, that regardless of how handsome and impressive looking a person may be, partners always come first. In fact, she should be praised for staying that loyal, to the point that she didn't even subconsciously find any other guy attractive, despite the amount of praise she heard of Percy. I thought it was rather sweet that the moment she looked at percy, her first thought was Jason, her boyfriend. Let's be real, if Annabeth did the same for percy, y'all would be drowning her in praise for being "wife material" or something 😒
If it weren't Percy, then the fandom would accuse Piper of emotionally cheating on Jason by having thoughts of other guys. That's just it.
Also, canonically, Jason was better built/looked more fit with tanned muscles and had this intimidating and royal look, while Percy was said to look a little skinny/lanky (even though he is very strong) so Piper saying that Percy wasn't impressive looking wasn't directed as an insult. Piper was just puzzled that Percy didn't look as "strong" and "grand" like she imagined the HERO of Olympus to look like.
Also literally a few pages later, she said that Percy had cute baby seal eyes, apparently that isn't a compliment?
I cannot believe ppl are trashing a 15 year old girl for not falling on her knees for a boy when she has a boyfriend. Like you can hate Piper and everything, i don't like her either, but give valid reasons pls 😭

I need to see more demigods who bite. Like jason totally feels the need to bite stuff, and leo half-jokingly suggests getting him a chew toy (like a dog). Nico absolutely bites to show affection, (maybe not willy nilly like jason but still) like just randomly biting people he's close with shoulders or hands because he just loves them so much (jason both bite to express affection and stim)
Anyways petition to normalize neurodivergent people who bite as a form of expressing affection or stimming.
oh absolutely. I actually have a tier list of "which of the Argo II crew & co are most likely to bite:"
Jason gnaws on people to show affection. He is extremely "Everything I love belongs in my mouth and everything I hate belongs between my teeth." He mostly stopped doing it for awhile cause of the whole "being trained to be the Perfect Praetor™" and having to mask a lot more, but he picked it up again a bit when he and Reyna became friends cause she didn't care and then more with the Argo II crew. He definitely hoards chewlery. He also definitely bit Krios real bad when they were fighting, if not outright killed him with his teeth.
Nico is a younger sibling. He has no qualms against biting in fights, any fight, but he does associate biting with fights. Jason tries to friendly-bite him one time and Nico just takes it as declaration of war and they end up tussling for like five minutes. After he gets used to Jason though he picks it up a bit too, mostly just chewing on people's hands. Also I 100% hc that when he was in Tartarus he just went full teeth-and-claws mode to survive. Honestly he bites more in regular combat and even training than Jason does, mostly just cause he's not above fighting dirty. If it works, it works. Also I hc he has sharp canines and is small so he might as well.
Frank's third but only on technicality cause shapeshifting. When he's human he's pretty much equal level to everybody else which is "only bites as a last resort."
Everybody else is pretty on-par with each other but Percy is probably just sliiightly more likely to bite not for any particular reason, he just considers it a valid fight tactic in a pinch (unlike Nico, who just considers it a general fight tactic). Also he got the oral stim adhd vibes. He has a lot of chewlery. They're all sea-themed, of course. Thalia is also pretty equal to Percy in terms of "biting as a valid fighting tactic."
Annabeth is also like. She's less likely to bite than Percy but more likely to than the rest of the crew. It's just a valid battle tactic under certain scenarios to her (and that includes training). She does consider it a low-blow though. She's also definitely got the oral stim adhd too. Lots of chewlery, rip her pencils and pens, etc etc. Her and Percy probably have a shared chewlery collection.
Piper is not the bitey type but she does have little to no formal combat training so yknow, wet cat technique. I do also totally believe she'd also have a chewing stim though. Like yknow how I draw her with the little braid sidebangs? Yeah she definitely chews on those and that's part of why she wears her hair like that. The other reason is that braiding it is one of her other stims.

Glasses Test
Square
Stylish, fashionable. Fits a Clark Kent archetype. Sits well on his face. Most visually flattering. Rejected for lack of character differentiation.
Circular
Slightly academic. Rejected for non-characteristic sitting.
Rectangular
Selected pair; silver frames contrast coloring. Thin, wire-based.

Small kiss. Glasses have been put into pocket, so they are not in the way.

The more I read on, the more I am absolutely baffled about how badly everybody treats Nico. I'm not talking about the narrative kicking him over and over again, the boy didn't get a breather in years. But the Seven? They would be so very dead without him and still? Still he's untrustworthy, creepy and we constantly have to point out how unhealthy he looks. Which is somehow proof of him being even creepier? I mean, they debate to let him die? After all he had done to help them all because of one bad decision he made when he was what, 12? And Jason doesn't understand why he would rather keep to himself than open up about his secret. You have given him absolutely no reason to feel safe around you, quite the opposite.
And then Percy gets offended when Nico doesn't go "oh it's all good, don't worry about a thing!" after he tries to say thank you. (I know he's weird around him for other reasons, not the point)
There is no point for me to get all worked up because of a kids book. Alas, here we are.
